The scientifice community is evenly split on global warming, its existence and its cause. The temperature drop over the earth this past year wiped out the 0.6C average warming of this century. The ice pack in Anartica is now at the greatest on record. Maybe the scientific community's warning of the 70's of a coming global ice age is more appropriate?
If all of mankind's production of CO2 were stopped tomorrow, it would only account for 4% of the total in the atmosphere. If CO2 was the cause of "global warming", how much effect could that have on the overall climate? The more salient theory is that the sun is blasting out more enery in the form of sun spots. Whenever this has occurred in the past, the earth's temperature rises; when they disappear, it cools, as it did in the 'mini ice age" of the last century. Some scientists say that the rise in CO2 levels are not a cause of rising temperatures but a result. I'm all for reducing pollutants in the atmosphere; they can't be good for us- global warming or not, but there appears to be a sinister political motivation with the hysteria being created around this issue. Many people are becoming filthy rich off the "green machine". Check out the agri-business moguls in corn, Al Gore's carbon tax. There's got to be a better way to address environmental issues.

Comment: Regarding our (Human Beings) contribution to global warming, If you believe in the Theory of Evolution, we should have nothing to fear. According to Darwin, we have evolved from a series of beneficial mutations over an extended period of time. Beneficial mutations that aid in our species survival. This is why polar bears are white and ducks have webbed feet. It is also why human beings have large brains. This naturally includes our ability to think, reason and problem solve. Our intelligence, and ability to create, would not have evolved into what it is today had it not aided in our survival and existence. Our ability to self-destruct does not aid in our survival, therefore is contrary to evolutionary theory. Outside of natural disaster a species becomes extinct only from it???s inability to adapt to it???s environment. Human beings contribution to global warming (beyond a natural cycle) is contrary to evolutionary theory. A natural balance (according to Darwin) must occur for a species to survive. This is found to be true throughout the natural world.
Having said that, not only are we capable of destroying ourselves, it appears as though we are doing so. The theory of Intelligent Design doesn???t even allow for this phenomenon. That would mean the ???intelligent??? design was not so intelligent after all.

We need a pragmatic approach, rather than political correctness, or campaign-driven promises. Comment: Generally, all the things that are reccomended to "save the plane" also save you money. Better fuel efficiency, means you have to pay for less gas. CFL bulbs that use a fraction of the electricity lower your power bill every month. Wind power that doesn't create tons of carbon emissions also don't rquire tons of coal transported across America's roadways meaning less traffic congestion, shorter commute times, etc. Carpooling saves everyone money and parking spaces.
My dad and I agree on most "green" issues. Me because I'm a tree-hugger, him because he's cheap!
