A Leadership Reality Check

Oratory is not enough. It often takes a national crisis to persuade Americans to make sacrifices.

Comment: Al Gore didn't use Powerpoint. He used Apple's Keynote presentation software.

I wish some facts, rather than impressions, were used to write this story. Clinton's "tenacity"? Any candidate who subjects himself/herself to the gauntlet of the campaign trail is tenacious. The only difference with Clinton is that she feels the need to puff up her reputation. Her legislative record offers no show of toughness or leadership. By those willing to research facts rather than repeat rhetoric, both McCain AND Obama are leaders worthy of consideration.

Comment: I thought this article was about the Presidential candidates and their green (or with the case of McCain, non-green) approach. Not Chines olympics.

On this article, I am disappointed in Newsweek that they evidently feel they have to be politically neutral rather than true. Newsweek tries to convey that all three candidates are on a level field of change for the green. Yet if you see what they say about McCain, you see nothing of that sort. He is not in the same league as Obama and Hillary. (And no, I am not a Democrat.) But it seems Newsweek feel that politically it wouldn't be wise for a news magazine to admit to that fact. Shame on Newsweek

Comment: From the article, you are doing a disservice by trying to make all three candidates as equals. From what your article says of McCain, he has no plans. He refuses to set definite limits like the two Democrats. He offers nothing. Yet your poor journalism doesn't allow your publication to admit that so you pretend he's on the same level of change as Obama and Hillary. Shame on your journalism.

Comment: There are readers who are discussing taking sacrifices by boycotting Chinese goods because of Tibet. It is good this issue about the environment because China really don't care whether Americans are buying. (1) today natural resource and material such as petroleum for manufacturing are too expensive. (2) Industrial cause pollution which China don't want. (3) China's labors are fully utilized. (4) the dollar foreign excahnge is constantly falling so there really isn't much profit selling too U. S. Since Chinese good are very inexpensive buying from other countries will increase inflation even. Any idea about boycotting Chinese goods is extremely unwise

Comment: Wow, you're really stretching now. If China doesn't care if Americans buy, then why not simply stop selling to us? It seems that would be so much easier than to keep on doing something you consider useless. If there's no profit, then I guess we should all take up a donation for the poor Chinese businesses. When you say a boycott would be unwise, I think you mean it would be detrimental to those Chinese businesses that do, in fact, profit excessively from selling products that have a much higher cost to the environment.

Comment: Americans can help with this too. Why do we always act like chilren? Why are we waiting for the government or the president to act like "mommy or daddy" and tell us what we need to do to help save ourselves, our country, and our world?

Change your lightbulbs to CFLs..NOW. Seriously, they're on sale evrywhere for very little. They'd be worth it, even if only because they last for years and you don't have to replace them so often. This incidentally uses less energy in production and waste removal. But they also lower your power bill. (And who doesn't need that?)

Carpool..less traffic, less pollution, more parking. And saves everyone money because it costs less for gas per individual. Once again, who doesn't need that?

Calling for the American people to "make sacrifices" is Ok, but calling for Americans to wake up and take responsibility for themselves is better. If we could all make a few small changes now, maybe the "sacrifice" wouldn't have to be so bad.

Comment: THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT CLIMATE CHANGE IS VERY REAL. I TRIED TO DENY IT BUT WHEN YOU HAVE AL SHARPTON MAKING COMMERCIALS WITH PAT ROBERTSON AND NEWT GINGRINCH DOING COMMERCIALS WITH ANNCY PELOSI ALL FOR THIS-THEN THAT'S A LOUD AND CLEAR SIGNAL. Go to www.dakshidin.com for the environment uptick on other energy source(mainly air and wind-I saw on Glen Beck about the air powered car-HOPE SO!)and www.greenglobeint.com for the companies that specialize in tourism and traveling in the most green way because traveling is very, very much a pollutant as people discard and tarvel more frivilous than when they are home.
