Comment: Wuerl is a good example of the poor quality of bishops in the USA and why the Church had such a bad problem with sex abuse by the clergy. I'm no Catholic basher but I do believe that the Church does deserve one big black eye for the sex abuse scandal. The reason being that the bishops allowed homosexuals to flow into the clergy. It was widely known that many seminaries were termed "lavender" with rampant sexual misbehavior. Should it be any surprise then that sexually sick priests would prey on the young?

The Church clearly lost her way after the Second Vatican Council. You cannot have a celibate clergy without strict rules in place. If one examines the history of the abuse scandal, one will see a rather small problem of sex abuse among the clergy before the Council but after 1970 when the decay set into the seminaries, the problem escalated. It actually declined somewhat after the papacy of JPII who tried to restore some order and appoint conservative bishops. But the rogues were already in the priesthood.

At least under Benedict something is being done about homosexuals in the clergy. The real reason for the problem in the Church is clear, homosexuality. 85% of the abuse victims were maleand most were teenagers, a favorite of active homosexuals.

Comment: The Church's sexual abuse scandal is not about about homosexuality any more than it is about heterosexuality. It is about the abuse of power by priests, true sociopaths without either character or integrity aided and enabled by bishops who, as we have found out from a number of Grand Jury investigations, knowingly transferred them from parish to parish and diocese to diocese with utter disregard for children.

"We can never rest when it comes to protecting children and teenagers," were the words spoken just recently by Bishop Gregory Aymond, chairman of the USCCB's Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People in commenting on April as Child Abuse Awareness Month.

I expect my church leadership to initiate actions that more faithfully follow their words.
Anything less is "sounding brass and tinkling cymbals," (1 Corinthians 13:1-2)because words without action remain hollow.

lately I've bought a DVD with Jesus picture on it wondering why I've never seen this movie before, I ended up watching a gay Jesus of Nazareth.... I feel disgust to talk about it!

Comment: How can "this pope...put a stop to the child molesting"? I don't recall any pope molesting a child. I don't believe this pope has ever molested a child. Molesting a child is an act that results from an individual's decision when opportunity presents itself. One of the horrors of this age we live in is that no one actually expects individuals to be responsible and to be held responsible. So often the rhetorical question is asked (about child molestation and other uglies): " Why on earth would they do that?" And, I'm sorry to say, the answer is ALWAYS, "Because they wanted to and they decided to." But our society has almost completely absolved the individual of any responsible. It's no wonder that individual priests think they will get a pass or, somehow, get away with molestations. The pope CANNOT put a stop the behavior of others any more than I, as a safe driver, can stop someone else from driving dangerously. Our society has mocked the churches, the Scriptures and faith in God...and is reaping the whirlwind. This anarchy will eventually become a vacuum that will be looking for something to "dominate it" and "make it be good". In this case--someone thinks it should be the pope. Ain't gonna happen.

Comment: I echo the archbishop's statemetn. I have a graduate degree in Theology from a Catholic university although I am a practicing Jew. I know more about the Catholic faith than some of my friends who have gone through years of parochial grade and high school. I understand its doctrines better and often have more respect for it. My friends were educated by nuns and priests who were educated before Vatican II and who had an underestanding of dogmatic positions that would embarrass the most traditionalist believers. Those older men and women affected the way their students experienced their Catholicism in a way that echoes the predatory priest scandals because they stood over and above the parhishioners and lived lives separate from them. Vatican II was a start but it was only a start. The current pope has to interpret the teachings in a new way for them to make sense to new people.
