Gallery: Mom's New Look

Excerpts from a new picture book for the children of women who have cosmetic surgery.

Tapping into what may be a growing market, a plastic surgeon has written and published a book for the children of women who have cosmetic surgery procedures like breast implants, tummy tucks and nose jobs. 'My Beautiful Mommy' (Big Tent Books, May 2008) by Dr. Michael Salzhauer aims to reassure kids that Mom's bruises and bandages are just temporary, and that the new, improved mommy won't be different, just 'prettier.' Comment: Anyone else notice the beauty pagent pictures in the "Dr's" office!?? This book just makes me sad and afraid for any little girls growing up.

Comment: this is HORRIBLE. every mother is beautiful and should never show kids at such a young age that it's wrong to not look like a super model. i can understand children's books that help kids get through the tough times of when their parents are going under surgery...but plastic surgery should not count.

Comment: This is so lame. Now "mommy" doesn't have to talk to her child, instead she will just hand her this book. Personally, I think plastic surgery for the sake of "beauty" is disgusting. It always looks fake and people always know if you've had work done. Anyway, the writing is on par with the illustrations; awful. Maybe the women who get themselves cut and pasted back together could buy their children a better education with the money, or travel (and I don't mean Disney World).
