This continues from my last comment. If you cannot even pick it up to start reading it, this in itself demonstrates the power of the Truth. If something had no power in it, the Holy Bible, why would you immediately be drawn away from it.

I think we've gotten a little side tracked by this quack that wrote this book. Like the rest of you, I agree this doctor is an idiot! The message the mom sends the child is unbelievable. But, isn't the real problem here the women that get these optional surgeries, not the obviously bored Dr. who wrote this book? Imean seriously, if we paid our police officers as much as these "enhanced" beauties get paid for modeling, singing, acting, etc. we probably wouldn't have so many crooked cops in the world. They would actually get paid to 'serve and protect' rather than get paid to look the other way or worse. It's the media that makes all these women want so badly to look like the ones we see in pictures. Yeah, it sure would be great to get a boob lift or maybe a smaller nose, but money or not, I can think of alot better things to do with that money. Like childrens educations. I'm a Special Education Teacher and I can honestly say, that if parents worried half as much about their childrens education as they do their appearance, 80% of my students wouldn't be in my class. Let's get our priorities straight and teach our children whats\'s really important shall we?.

The main problem with this book is it centers on the mother and her needs. . As people we need to get off our high horse and stop thinking about ourselves all the time. Parents and adults in this nation are consumed and swallowed up by their own PRIDE. We were not put here on earth to be prideful. I would encourage and challenge everybody to pick up a Holy Bible and read it from the New Testament to the end.
and read from the New Testament to the end. If you cannot even pick it up to start
What the?! That looks like a book for moms who want to make sure their kids leave them alone after the surgery. "Don't bother mommy after the surgery because she's too obsessed with herself to care about you!" I was in a horrible car accident and had to have emergency reconstructive plastic surgery, and I am grateful that it was available to me. But vainity is no excuse to abandon your children while you recover.
What a sad point we have reached when this rubbish is what society finds acceptable to pass on to children. We've begun to damage self-image before even building it up. Isn't it bad enough that 16 year olds are getting boob jobs, now we will have 5 year olds who will want nose jobs... just like Mommy. Adults, what have we become and what hope of substance do our children have any hope to attain??
What a poorly written and terrible book. The doctor who wrote this is so occupied by his ego that it's visible in the illustration.
I wrote a comment earlier, but after reading what some people had to say, I am astounded. If I had a daughter and decided that I just couldn't live my life without a boob job, I would "go on a vacation" and stay with family or friends until I healed. Children should not and CAN NOT be subjected to this kind of thing. When a child is young, you are their GOD. You are flawless, the hero, the provider and they need to be able to believe that until they reach their teens. That's when you can say, "Well hunny, mommy didn't go on a vacation, she got a breast augmentation because she just simply wasn't happy with the way she looked. I'm not saying it was the right thing to do, but I feel better about myself." And if that child starts asking questions, answer them honestly. Women die because of these frivolous surgeries and I pray you never know what it's like to tell your child "ya, plastic surgery is like, totally safe" and then they die on the table. That's your job, protect your child. Most people don't deserve to have reproductive organs anyways. There should be a law were you have to be a foster parent for a year before you can have your own children. And the thing that breaks my heart is the law says they protect children, but I have known so many people growing up, and watched as their parents hit them and the law did nothing about it even though there were numerous reports. The point is, when you have a child, you stop thinking about yourself, and live, eat, and breath for them. Don't be selfish and risk your life to look better. You already got laid once, obviously you don't look that bad.
This is exactly what's wrong with our society, both men and women. Accept who you are! Your outside being should only make up a fraction of your total self confidence! Maybe this type of thinking is why we are even considering a Freshman Senator and a Former First Lady, both of whom have almost no experience and no substance, are even being considered for the job of Pres. What's next, wearing high heels to the beach? Men going in for facials? How many people that are in trouble with their mortgage have forgone their trips to the spa or getting their nails done weekly? This is the problem with our society, that we even care that much about those things over Common Sense. Why not when you can blame someone else?

This kind of book is only part of what scares me about our sociaty. We are more concerned about our looks than the election and the actual issues of the election. Maybe this kind of thinking is why a First term Senator and a Sentor and former First Lady, with very little experience and substance as well, are even being considered for the job of Pres. What's next, wearing high heels to the beach?
I'm writing a similar book for sons of fathers on steroids; my book explains in much the same way that steriods make me a bigger, better, scarier father. The fictional son in my book understands all of the advantages of 'roids' and is sure to take them himself when he's old enough to do so, of course. This book kinda' stole my thunder.
i think that the book is meant to discuss how a child would feel when the mother has already commited to get plastic surgery. I don't think it address the issue like "your mom, SHOULD GET Plastic Surgery" . That being said, is always good to educated children in what is going in their enviroment. I think it would be a good tool for those mothers considering going under the knife and being afraid to speak to their children about it. You need to understand also, that plastic surgery is also not for those that want to be "prettier" but those that maybe my have a congenital defect that have endure their life. Therefore i don't believe is right to critize the physicians or the patients but rather the source as is the media.
Having plastic surgery for defects or medical purposes is different. Having plastic surgery so your boobs will be big and guys will look at you is pathetic.
I agree Megan. As a surgical nurse I see many patients undergoing plastic surgery. Everyone is entitled to what makes them happy. The title of the book alone causes concern. Plastic surgery is necessary for a great many reasons (skin grafts for burn patients, removing cancerous lesions, etc). If someone wants a breast augmentation, fine, leave the kids out of it!
This is just absolutely appalling. What respectable physician or publisher thought this was a good idea? What kind of message are we sending our children? I guess the message is you have to be "pretty" at all costs, and if you aren't pay for it and you can be a Stepford wife too. My daughters will grow up to be proud of who they are inside and out. I feel sorry for the daughters that get this book. It should be sold with a self help book they may need later.
A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!! THIS IS JUST WRONG!!! YOU CAN TELL THAT A RICH PERSON WROTE THE BOOK TO BEGIN WITH, LOOK AT THE SUV MOM IS DRIVING AND THE HOUSES AROUND HER. YOU HAVE THE SUPPER SKINNY MOM WEARING A CUT OFF SHIRT, AND HER DAUGHTER TELLS HER THAT SHE IS THE PRETTIEST MOM IN THE WORL D AND ALL SHE CAN SAY IS NOT REALLY. WHATS NEXT DOC YOU GONNA WRITE A BOOK FOR KIDS WHO WANT PLASTIC SURGURY, CUZ AFTER THIS WE ARE GOING TO NEED ONE. YOU TAKE A KID WHO LOOKS UP TO YOU AND THINKS THAT YOU ARE PERFECT AND YOU SHOOT THEM DONE AND POINT OUT EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO NOT SEE AS A PROBLEM, THEY ARE GOING TO START SEEING THEIR OWN FLAWS. GUESS WHAT, I'M OVER WEIGHT, AFTER HAVING TWO KIDS BOTH MY BOBS AND MY GUT HANG TO MY KNEES, I SOUND LIKE A DIEING ANIMAL WHEN I SING, BUT WHEN MY KIDS TELL ME THAT I AM PRETTY AND THEY LOVE IT WHEN I SING I TELL THEM THANK YOU. YOU AND YOUR BOOK MAKE ME SICK, OH AND BY THE WAY YES I COULD AFFORD PLASTIC SURGURY AND YES I TRY TO LOSE WEIGHT SO THAT I STAY HEALTHY SO I CAN PLAY WITH MY KIDS, BUT NO I WILL NOT BE VISITING YOU ANYTIME SOON BECAUSE MY KIDS LOVE ME, MY HUSBAND LOVES ME, GOD LOVES ME, AND I LOVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment: I understand where you are coming from, but most people get gastric-bypass because their weight limits them from doing daily activities. I do like to remind you, that even after gastric-bypass (aka Tummy Tucks) patients still need to keep a healthy life style such as exercise & proper diet. And often Gastric-bypass only removes minimal waste the rest is up to you. If you feel that your are overweight then take the next step, do something about it! Start by going to the Gym! (diets don't work and neither do magic pills) make a commitment to a healthy lifestyle! And guess what you would not need to go under the knife! Obesity sadly enough composes a large number of americans nowadays and this leads to people often having MI's, varicose veins, self-steem issues. No one says you have to be "skinny-aneroxic" but you got to be healthy! So love yourself inside and out and go workout!
Correction - Gastric Bypass IS NOT the same think as a Tummy Tuck. A "Tummy Tuck" is a colloquial term for an Abdominoplasty, which removes excess skin from the abdomin following weightloss or pregnancy. It may also involve some repair to the deeper abdomin tissues that may have been damaged during childbirth.
Gastric Bypass is a procedure which drastically reduces the size of the patients somach making it easier for the patient to become fuller faster when eating.
But you are correct in saying that both procedures require diet and excercise on the part of the patient following surgery.

But you were corrent in saying that both patients need to maintain a healthy lifestyle, balanced diet with moderate excercise to stay healthy and keep excess weight from returning.
This is absolutely disgusting. Abhorent.
Before you get on the "if it makes you feel better" bandwagon, hold on a second. I could ALMOST, ALMOST stomach the idea of this book if it came from the standpoint of self-esteem. Mommy wants to make some changes to her body, because it will help her feel more confident inside and out.
But "Mommy's not gonna just be different, she's gonna be prettier?!" BARF! And the picture of mommy as a beauty queen in the thought bubble...HIDEOUS. Way to sell it to kids...mommy wants to wear cut off shirts and get approval from men!
You know, everyone's gotta do what they think is right. You wanna get plastic surgery, more power to you. I'm a bit old-school in my thinking, that I'm perfect just the way I am, imperfections and all. But hey, if surgery will make you feel confident, fine. But make the book have more of a self-esteem focus then Barbie it up with, "Mommy's gonna be prettier and conform more to the standards of what society thinks physical perfection is, tee hee!"
Disgusting. My four year old daughter will be taught to love herself, physical imperfections and all.
Comment: I think it's better to teach you r kids to love themselves just the way they are. I haven't read this book yet so I don't know if the book explain to the kid why her mom has got the surgery. I will be upset if the book try to tell kids not to proud of their bodies. Anyway, I still think it's such a weird book ever.
