    He's no idiot. He's the democratically elected president of a sovereign nation, as is Hugo Chavez. His comments are quite easy to understand in the context of the legacy of neoliberal style capitalism in his country, as well as many others in Latin America. For example, "Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein or "Impass in Bolivia" by Kohn and Farthing provide helpful insight.
