Comment: This just won't work for the vast majority of Americans. I mean, it's not evil, just really really dumb.

    A) it leaves out people who don't pay $5000.00 in taxes..too bad for everyone who makes under $50,000 per year.

    B) It does nothing to address the issue of being denied coverage because of pre-existing condition. Born with diabetes or a heart murmur..too bad for you.

C.) It actually decreases competition on pricing for insurance. A company with 5,000 employees has a much better shot at negotiating a fair price for health insurance than an individual does. That's one of the main reasons that providing health insurance is so expensive for small companies now.And just ask a self employed person how much they have to pay for an individual plan. My parents pay for theirs and it's mind boggling.

Then who were the people at this speech cheering him on? and why ?

Comment: the problem with a tax credit is that you actually have to earn enough to pay taxes for a tax credit to do you any good. The people who can't afford insurance don't pay enough in tax for a credit to make sense as a solution to the problem the poor uninsured present to our medical delivery system.

Comment: I actually like the idea of a tax credit for Health insurance. The only problem is how to pay for it.

Here's where McCain's lack of economic knowlege bites him again. He says he would eliminate the tax exemption for people who's employers pay a portion of their coverage.

To me, that says my $800 family policy is no longer tax exempt and now comes from after tax dollars. That means, if I'm in a 25% tax bracket, I'd be contributing $800*.25 = $200 to cover my $500 tax credit.
Now if we all do that, it appears the government will need to come up with an extra $300 for each of us.
    Where will that come from?
Being a Republican, I suspect that just gets added to a growing budget deficit. (This means will borrow money for the national debt.)

Mr. McCain, You are doing nothing to convince me on your economic knowlege..

Comment: We already have an "open market" heatlh insurance program. It is the most expensive health insurance program in the world and a recent WHO study ranked our health insurance program in 37 place. That's only two places above Cuba's health insurance program, which ranked 39. McCain does not understand that in the health insurance inductry it's all about the Benjamins. The folks who brought us for profit insurance as well as for profit phramaceutical companies and for-profit hospitals are not in the business because they love Jesus. They're in it for the bottom line. In the insurance industry that means who can raise the prices the fastes, while delivering the least amount of services. Furthermore, practices like binding arbitration and the right wing judiciary, plus tort reform, will prevent any victom of insurance fraud from getting any sort of recourse or justice.McCain's proposal will simply encourage encourage insurance companies to keep on raising their rates, reneging on contracts, and cancelling coverage whenever some one really gets sick.

The only cheap cost-effective plan would be to extend Medicare to everyone and to eliminate for-profit hospitals and HMO's. Actually Medicare was a very effective and cost-efficient program until the Bush Administration took office and wrecked everything in an attempt to destroy Medicare. (which is really what McCain wants to do.) The federal government pays McCain's medical bills. if he were left to the mercies of the private insurance industry, he could not get insurance for love or money because of pre-existing conditions. McCain's proposal merely shows whose side McCain is on, in spite of all his straight talk and in spite of labeling Obama an effete elitist. The only true elitist is McCain and the only real winners are the health insurance companies
