    Each of these natural disasters had a huge death toll, and with two exceptions (Eurpoean heat wave and Indian earthquake) each occurred in a country or region dominated by repressive, authoritarian governments. I don't think it's a coincidence. Could this be yet another benefit of encouraging democratic governments?

    Details show a strange feature. Almosst all natural calamities strike the underprivileged people. Adding salt to their injuries, they also face apathy of their leaders who pilfer for self advantage almost all humanitarian assistance provided by the world. Animal in man is more pronounced in such leaders. World should find means and devices to ensure foolproof delivery of help/ assistance to the people actually in urgent need.
