Comment: Here's an account of Obama for you. According to an
article in the LA Times, even though Illinois ethics disclosure
forms are designed to reveal possible financial conflicts by
lawmakers, on disclosure forms for 2001 and 2002, Obama did not
specify that the company involved (EKI) provided him with the bulk
of the private-sector compensation he received. Instead, as was
his custom, he attached a multi-page list of all the law firm's
clients, which included EKI among hundreds. Illinois law does not
require more specific disclosure.
Stanley Brand, a Washington lawyer who counsels members of
Congress and others on ethics rules, said he would have advised a
lawmaker in Obama's circumstances to separately disclose such a
singularly important client and not simply include it on a list of
hundreds of firm clients, even if the law does not explicitly
require it. "I would say you should disclose that to protect and
insulate yourself against the charge that you are concealing it,"
Brand said.
Obama's tax returns show that he made no money from his law
practice in 2000, the year of his unsuccessful run for a
congressional seat. But that changed in 2001, when Obama reported
$98,158 income for providing legal services. Of that, $80,000 was
from Blackwell's company.
In 2002, the state senator reported $34,491 from legal services
and speeches. Of that, $32,000 came from the EKI legal assignment,
which ended in April 2002 by mutual agreement, as Obama ceased the
practice of law and looked ahead to the possibility of running for
the U.S. Senate. .
Obama's spokesman said that listing all clients was appropriate
and that doing so allowed the public to see any and all potential
conflicts for Obama and his law firm colleagues. "He was
especially mindful of this responsibility as a leader of ethics
reform," said Gibbs, his chief campaign spokesman.
A few months after receiving his final payment from Blackwell's
company, EKI, Obama sent a request on state Senate letterhead
urging Illinois officials to provide a $50,000 tourism promotion
grant to another Blackwell company, Killerspin.
Though Obama's formal efforts consisted of writing a letter and a
proclamation, the nitty-gritty of obtaining state grants fell to a
former state Senate and campaign aide to Obama, Dan Shomon.
Shomon, working part time for Obama's campaign and for Killerspin,
helped prepare Killerspin's initial grant application in 2002.
Still working part time with Obama, Shomon helped Killerspin
secure a $200,000 grant for its 2003 tournament and a $100,000
grant for its 2004 tournament.
Nice return on Blackwell's "investment" in Obama. So much for
Obama's sense of ethics and transparency.

Comment: Obama won the rural, blue-collar and white votes in Iowa, Wisconsin and other states before the Wright controversy broke out. It proves that white voters will vote for a black candidate as long as that candidate shares their values. The issue is not that Obama is black but that he has baggage. The GOP knows this and will amplify the Wright controversy. The problem for Obama will be connecting with rural, blue-collar, and religious voters. He can spend all the money he wants. Even outspending Hillary by 3:1 did not change the outcome. Axelrod claims that Obama does not need these voters to win the general election. It's an amazing claim and fits right up there with their bitter-church-gun thesis (total baloney). If one looks at 2000 and 2004, Bush won these voters in droves.
Obama's success is due mainly to his early momentum during the PRE-WRIGHT stage. He's now and forever in the POST-WRIGHT stage and is limping along, "warts and all," with a huge help from a "a racially lopsided primary," to the finish line.
Hillary, who started off weak, is now hitting her stride, connecting in a fundamental way with average everyday Americans, and not just women anymore. She is now seen as a more formidable opponent by the GOP, winning big in huge battleground states like OH, PA, IN, FL and MI (and doing so with far less money and political machinery than her opponent and far less favorable press coverage.) She will probably knock Obama's socks off in West Virginia and Kentucky. But it comes too late, especially when the media universally gangs-up on her and prematurely coronates Obama as the nominee.
Looking back, it's highly doubtful Obama would be where he is right now if the Wright story had broke out sooner. Perhaps Edwards would be the nominee, and Edwards would be a far stronger candidate than Obama in November.
The GOP could not be happier. Obama is their choice of candidate right now. Half of those who voted for Clinton say they won't vote for him in November. Both Rove and Rush are jumping up and down in delight. McCain has a serious chance of winning rural, blue-collar and religious voters, the same voters that helped Bush in the last two elections. He's strong with hispanics as well, due to his immigration policies, and the Jewish community, due to his tough stance on Hamas and Iran. If McCain picks Colin Powell, he can undermine Obama's strength with the black community. And then there's Condi Rice, which may be his ace in the hole. He can bag the women vote to boot.
McGovern, who lost the '72 election in a landslide, has just handed the batoon to Obama. It's a bad omen.
Comment: Obama is but a pivot for shifting Democratic power from the Clintons to the Kennedys.
If Hillary wins the presidential slot, this means that she gets to choose the advisers, the cabinet members, and put her stamp on the presidency. If, however, Obama wins the race, and Teddy Kennedy, failed Democrats who were thrown to the bus in one intra
politics after the other. Obama is a front. Ideas are not solutions; Hillary is the real thing.
Comment: Change is what this election has to be about. And change in all directions. I know because I'm a white guy living in Los Angles. I recently retired after spending a life time teaching in an inner city high school.
Thanks to the local equivalents of Rev. Wright, some African-American teenagers did not want to be taught by a white guy, even though I developed a whack rap that became the talk of the school. They had to make a choice. They could either "run with" me - or they could "run with" some homie, who looked and talked like them and was trying to get them to join a posse or a gang. Many of the African-American students who "ran with" me won scholarships, went to college, and got degrees. Some of them are taking my place in the classroom. As for the African-American teenagers who didn't "run with me" .. Well, if you fly into LAX, you'll fly over Inglewood Memorial Park. That cemetery contains the graves of way too many young black males who "ran with" the wrong people and paid for their mistake with their lives.
The same applies to Reagan Democrats and White America. For years, too many blue-collar, Reagan Democrat white guys have voted for some one they'd like have a beer with. They've lost their union jobs, their union pensions, their union health care. Too many of them are losing their lives because of unsafe working conditions or toxic chemicals. In addition, thousands of Americans have been killed and maimed in the Iraqi war - started and promoted by Bush and McCain. The white guy who calls you "Good buddy." and buys you a beer is not necessarily your friend.
Obama has set the theme of this election - change. (Even McCain is adopting that as his motto - but I know he can't rap.) African-American teenagers in inner cities need to change. Rev. Wright remains an anachronism because he cannot change. In the same manner, the Reagan Democratcs in a large number of small towns across America need to change as well. Their survival depends on their ability to adapt. . As Martin Luther King stated, we are all interconnected. Our connected destinies depend on how much and how willing we are to change. Go Obama.

Raise taxes, make it cost more to run a company and somehow these folks can create more jobs and pay higher wages. Brilliant thinking. The American economy can not AFFORD another Republican in office. I wish to continue feeding my family, providing them shelter and insuring them if they or I become ill. I do not feel many will have the financial stability to do that with McCain in office.
The American people NEED a Barack Obama and another democrat in the White House in office to fight for issues that favor the people and not special interests of the large companies. He can not do it all. He'll likely make some decisions that are questionable just to play politics and win the battle. But we need direction by such a leader to begin and begin yesterday.

Clinton touts support from 'white Americans'

Clinton campaigned in Washington Thursday.
(CNN) ??? In what appear to be the New York senator's most blunt comments to date regarding a racial division in the Democratic presidential race, Hillary Clinton suggested Wednesday that "White Americans" are increasingly turning away from Barack Obama???s candidacy.
"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," Clinton said in an interview with USA TODAY.
Clinton cited an Associated Press poll "that found how Senator Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
"There's a pattern emerging here," she said.
Exit polls from Tuesday's primaries in Indiana and North Carolina show Clinton won about 60 percent of the white vote in both states. That percentage is down from the Ohio primary on March 4, in which Clinton won upwards of 65 percent of the white vote. Meanwhile, Clinton garnered 63 percent of the white vote in Pennsylvania on April 22.
Speaking with the paper, Clinton rejected the notion her comments were racially divisive in any way.
"These are the people you have to win if you're a Democrat in sufficient numbers to actually win the election," she said. "Everybody knows that."
Obama spokesman Bill Burton called Clinton's statements "not true and frankly disappointing."

Clinton touts support from 'white Americans'

(CNN) ??? In what appear to be the New York senator's most blunt comments to date regarding a racial division in the Democratic presidential race, Hillary Clinton suggested Wednesday that "White Americans" are increasingly turning away from Barack Obama???s candidacy.
"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," Clinton said in an interview with USA TODAY.
Clinton cited an Associated Press poll "that found how Senator Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
