It is important to point out that Hillary's recent victories have all been in Appalachian states (West Virginia, rural Pennsylvania, southern Ohio and Kentucky), where education is low, and poverty is rampant as prejudice. In a nation founded on the principal "All men are created equal," are we going to let the ignorance and prejudice of one little subgroup rule our national discourse?

It is obvious that millions of white Americans, both educated and uneducated, have voted for Obama, and will continue to vote for him in November.

Clinton is taking a play from the GOP again. How many of you are old enough to remember when the South was solidly Democrat? The South started to go Republican in the late 50s when the Supreme Court ruled against segregation in 1956, and it became fully GOP when Kennedy pushed for civil rights. Republicans like Wallace and Thurmond took advantage of the hatred and prejudice and got victories for the GOP by promising to continue segregation if the white South voted Republican. And they very nearly succeeded, using filibuster after filibuster to block civil rights legislation.

And it was the Southern states that delivered the 1969 election for the GOP, placing Nixon into office, and putting the icing on the cake of this historic Republican power play.

Strom Thurmond, who was a Southern Democrat, switched parties in 1964, and has the dubious honor of holding the record for the longest filibuster in Senate history. He spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes against the Civil Rights Bill.

Our country needs a replay of that like we need a hole in the head.

Shame on Hillary Clinton, exploiting people's ignorance for her own political gain.

At least with George Wallace, you knew he had been prejudiced from birth, and would always walk his talk. With Clinton, who has positioned herself as an advocate for equality, it is hideous to see her backpeddaling on her own (supposed) values. Or maybe her push for civil rights was all just politically expedient. Remember, she started life as a poster child for the Young Republicans, only to switch parties when Nixon was disgraced. She reinvents herself every time she thinks it will get her somewhere. While I can admire this trait in a movie actor, it is hard to respect it in a politician.

    Comment: Mr. Alter,

The media's clarion call that it's done with a statistical dead heat between the three prospective contenders for the White House, seems too early to toss FL and MI voters out to sea. CA, FL, MI, PA, OH, MA, NY are a must........and, although I LIKE Obama, he hasn't won the most critical blue states...That's one robust reason to continue this democratic process.

Despite MILLIONS of supporters, Hillary Rodham Clinton has been vehemently vilified because it remains socially acceptable to be sexist. Corporate men dominate the airwaves; these men have held the keys to success, and invariably, they oversee most election coverage (Philadelphia Inquirer).

"Media news people, frequently operating with complete integrity and goodwill, are able to [CONVINCE} themselves that they choose and interpret the news "objectively" and on the basis of professional news values....[Not in this scenario, however.] Voter attention is focused on style and personality ("Yes We Can") --anything but the issues that are of primary concern to the concentrated private power centers that largely finance campaigns and run the government" (Noam Chomsky, Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Women in the media, too, have been lulled into tolerating it because it is difficult to stand up to SEXISM at the risk of losing their paychecks. It's blatant that women in the media see the disparate treatment of HRC, but have convinced the masses that this pugilist is a pariah.

Without an NIE report read, Senator Obama touts his sound decision-making (as a State Senator) for opposing the War in Iraq. With hindsight, unbeknownst to him, there were no weapons of mass destruction. His argument that he made the right choice is a fallacy: he didn't make any such decision as a U.S. Senator with the emotions of September 11th still riding high and our response to maintain strong national security. Albeit, none of these assertions are earth-moving or original arguments; what is important here is to remind voters that he does not command a bastion of foreign policy knowledge nor does his redundant, "I voted against the war" a viable argument to support his candidacy.

Unfortunately, those who purport that the frontrunner will unite people have already demonstrated that the frontrunner will unite NO one except perhaps the myopic misanthropists, who, most likely, come January 2009, will be in a seething cauldron of woeful, broken promises teeming with scintillating rhetoric.

Now Obama claims to be a religious man, so I wonder how he reconciles the two....Unless he's a poser and is using religion and the church for Political reasons??? Nah...not Bummie.

When people use harsh hyperbolic language in a forum of ideas, it creates enmity, discord and completely obscures the point one is trying to make; in other words, rather than debating an issue, you tear the person apart thinking you've made a strong argument, but you haven't. FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE THINGS WILL "CHANGE" --DAY ONE-- IF A DEMOCRAT WERE ELECTED SHOULD KNOW THAT WITH A DEMOCRAT DAY ONE MIGHT CHANGE SOMETHING AND THAT SOMETHING IS: HIGHER TAXES, GREATER SECURITY RISK, UNACCEPTABLE HEALTH INSURANCE, AND A WEAKER ECONOMY"

    Dear Jack3213,

It's obvious that Change in the economy, health care coverage, homeland security and the tax code will not happen on day one. That's indisputable. What is also indisputable is that Senator McCain is intelligent and experienced; he is, and so are his democratic opponents, Senators Clinton and Obama, alike. The credibility of anyone running for office, however, including John McCain, is speculative, at best. If a democrat is elected (and Senator McCain is not allowed to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor), your drawn conclusion that a weaker economy will follow is rash and reflects your own insecurity. No economist, Milton Friedman, included, can augur or foretell this from an election. That nearly 50 million Americans have no health care coverage is already unacceptable. Voters are not privy to Homeland Security, so your prediction, on that matter is weak and of little or no practical value. Any drawn conclusions, humble or immodest, are burdened by misanthropic musings and made obscured by character assassination

Comment: If this were a chess game, Obama still has his Queen, both Rooks, a Bishop, one Knight and a pawn. Hillary has only one Bishop left. When Hillary beats Obama in West Virginia, she will have captured Obama's remaining pawn, and nothing more. After next weeks Kentucky and Oregan primaries, the parties will have exchanged their remaining Bishops, and Hillary will have no choice but to resign. Hillary supporters may get excited about her victory in WV.. But even the 8 measley delegates (to Hillary's 20) that Obama picks up, will put him within a move or two from Checkmate. Watch for Check, then Mate in Oregon. Good game Hillary!

Comment: Bravo to Obama, for reversing the tide of the superdelgates and overtaking Clinton, whose campaign style has shown us how little she deserves to be our leader. Hillary is playing politics, the worst kind of low-ball politics.

I am white, and female, and middle aged, and Republican, and I am voting for OBAMA.

Hillary insults both women and whites when she asserts that we are all both racist and stupid.

Get a life, Hillary, and stop pandering to the least common denominator. One of the reasons I am disaffected from the Republican party is because of the way they have tried to manipulate the gun-toting bible-thumping undereducated electorate.

A true leader will unite people around a higher cause, not divide them along lines of distrust and hatred.

Obama is a true leader, and a true Christian. Anyone who can't see this is falling victim to media manipulation. Hillary is imitating the tactics that dragged the once-proud GOP into the mud, and away from the hearts and minds of millions of thinking Republicans.

I still uphold Republican values. The good old-fashioned ones that founded our republic. And I am voting for Obama, who is truest to these values, despite his liberal ideas.

Hummmm !! 2012 will be far out of sight if she goes down in History for destroying the Democratic Party... even if she becomes Independant she will only become the New Nader ( & we all see how he is treated)... Ron Paul is the "Nader" on the repblican side since he is staying on the ballot this fall ( he will be taking votes away from Mccain)...

Comment: Hi glimps. Hillary will not put herself on the ballot without the backing of the party. She is not stupid. How dare people think she is. She is keeping true to her word. Every vote will count and the democratic party will be united. Since she will be the second place finisher, it will happen. That is something many (especially recent democratic voters) seem to forget. She is true to her word. She will back up the nominee even if that nominee is Obama. Obama knows this that is why he really do not want to make waves with Hillary. She never said she would not support the nominee. The Obama supporters have been calling her and everyone of her supporters idiots, warmongers, bigots, etc. Why? Because we don't believe in Obama and we are going over to McCain.
I think your numbers are off. But thats okay. Either way the future president will have bitten off more than they can chew
And yes my sentiment exactly, good luck to all everyone's candidates. This will be a very muddy one. With all the closet secrets. Only McCain's have been exposed, Obama's have yet to surface fully.

Comment: So now does that mean Obama will let this go to the convention for the superdelegates to make the decision? The plot thickens. Superdelegates are not obligated to stay with their choice. The way they have been behaving tells me something is brewing.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 05/10/2008 17:43:43

Comment: Your question makes no sense. Of course, it will "go to the convention." That's where everything is official. Until then, in theory, all votes are up for grabs. There actually is no rule that would prevent a "pledged" delgate from voting for another candidate. (Bur any candidate who picked delegates who weren't 110% committed doesn't deserve the nomination.) The reason Superdelegates are making endorsements is to bring this process to a close. But there is nothing to keep them from changing their minds at the convention. Obama can't "let" them do anything; nor can he stop them from doing wha tthey want. But why would the party insiders want to do something that would tear the party apart? Why would the make endorsements now, if there is some plot to back out at the convention? You've been watching too many conspiracy movies.

      • Posted By: Jrmapu @ 05/11/2008 11:00:30

Comment: Yes it does make sense if you paid attention to what has been going on. Obama did not want it to go to the convention. He wanted it settled. Problem is neither one of them have the needed votes to win straight up. It needed to go to the convention. Now he has the numbers he will want to go the convention. Where the superdelegates can officially give him the nomniation. Party rules however dictates they do not have to stay with their choices but I think they will. The party is already divided and so are the democratic supporters. Hillary will be the one to unite the party not Obama. Isn't it ironic it will take a woman to be the peacemaker. Times have not changed from the biblical ones.

I want a direct vote, a direct Democracy and a direct say in the November election, not some funky process designed to disenfranchise voters if they make the "wrong" choice - it seems ARCHAIC (a vestige of when half the country was illiterate, or more)... We are a modern capitalistic Democracy, and most of us can now read! Let us have a direct vote and forget all this goofy stuff.

The same campaign that conclusively demonstrated that it was unprepared for what it sought? Does THAT make for a great candidate? Or does winning -- through the rules?

  • Posted By: Dartay @ 05/10/2008 10:03:02 AM

Comment: IN ALL this mess of superdelegates and endorsements have we ever really heard that Obama is TRULY a great candidate? All we hear is that he is ahead in delegates so we must endorse him. (Do they ever notice it was due his clever stockpiling of the overlooked caucuses?) They may also claim that he is "inspirational and a uniter" . It is such a sham that Democrats are once again going superficial and setting themselves up for another loss of the Presidency!

    • Posted By: summer1216 @ 05/10/2008 23:15:52

Comment: Well, you heard it here. Obama is a truly great candidate. He has already changed the way we perceive politics, and he will bring more positive change before he is done.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 05/10/2008 17:27:54

Comment: So why did the Clintons overlook the caucuses? Didn't Bill remember running in the?. Didn't Hillary realize they were scheduled? They were in all the papers. I remember reading about them. This nomination was Hillary's to lose and she did just that. Instead of planning a smart campaign that would give her an early and undisputed lead, she coasted, as though she deserved this nomination through entitlement and all she had to do was don her pantsuit and tell the voters she would deign to accept the nomination. The other problem is that she handed Obama the issue that gave his campaign traction --- the war in Iraq. Her callous vote for the war (I will never, ever believe that she actually favored war with Iraq, or that she believed Cheney's "intelligence") was calculated to preserve her political position and defend against any charges that a woman would be "soft" on defense. She sacrificed American lives and American treasure for her own political agenda. That was a bitter pill for me to swallow -- and apparently others felt the same. Hillary lost because she ran a terrible campaign -- except for Pennsylvania where the Ivy League lawyer from Chicago's best suburbs suddenly became a beer-swilling, shot-downing Scranton mill girl. It might not have been honest, and it certainly was superficial, but it worked!

Comment: They will be bailing out soooooooooon.

A Middle East policy adviser for Barack Obama has left the campaign after acknowledging having held talks with Hamas, FOX News confirms.

The Times newspaper in London first reported Friday that the campaign was severing ties with the adviser, Robert Malley.

Malley said he had been in contact with the Palestinian group, but only through his work for a ???conflict resolution think tank,??? and not on behalf of the Obama campaign, the newspaper reported.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton told FOX News Malley was ???an ancillary adviser who never met with Obama, literally one of hundreds of informal advisers who from time to time offered advice on Middle East policy.???

Another Obama spokesman told The Times Malley ???has no formal role in the campaign and he will not play any role in the future.???

Hamas, which is labeled a terrorist organization by the State Department, is a touchy issue for the Obama campaign.

Hamas adviser Ahmed Yousef said in a recent interview, ???We like Mr. Obama, we hope that he will win the election,??? and presumptive Republican nominee John McCain has poked fun at Obama for the apparent endorsement.

McCain has said he would be Hamas??? ???worst nightmare???; he told ???The Daily Show???s??? Jon Stewart Wednesday that he could ???guarantee??? Hamas would not endorse him for president.

Obama accused McCain of ???losing his bearings??? and engaging in a smear campaign for the remarks.

???Special Report - Obama caught up in Gay Murder Scandal!???

???Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has become tangled in a gay-murder probe rocking his controversial Chicago church as insiders ask: How much does he really know abut the choir director???s savage slaying? But a top Chicago private detective tells GLOBE he believes the shooting death of 47-year old Donald Young may be connected to Obama, who belongs to the church once headed by scandal-scarred preacher the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

???Donald Young was silenced because of something he knew about Obama,??? says the private investigator, who has connections to the police department???s homicide unit.

Now Larry Sinclair, the Minnesota man who has been dogging Obama with claims he engaged in gay sex and drugs with the presidential candidate in 1999, says he has given cops shocking new evidence linking the Democratic White House hopeful to the baffling murder. Sinclair insists he had contact with Young shortly before the choir director was brutally killed. He says that each time, Young instigated the phone calls, which were made ???not long??? before the murder.???

Larry, your remarks about Young???s inquisitiveness is mentioned. Your April 1, 2008 affidavit is also mentioned and the fact the CPD has contacted you.

???One Internet posting says. ???This long-standing choir director???s murder was discovered early Sunday morning??? but didn???t become public knowledge until Tuesday. ???What sort of cover-up exists between Chicago PD and the Obama camp to bury this story to advance Obama???? the posts asks.

And a longtime political observer tells GLOBE the Young murder probe could spell trouble for Obama???s White House bid. ???This story could become political dynamite for Obama???s foes,??? the source says, ???Coming on the heels of the controversy over the anti-american statements of his pastor, this issue could gain steam and become a real problem for Barack.???

Comment: Well. How about become the first legitimate presidential nominee that isn't a white male? I'd say that's a pretty historic change.

I know, I know. . .you're bitter and unwilling to see anything other than "Hillary good. Obama bad.", but you would have to engage in some pretty impressive mental gymnastics to come to the conclusion that he's hasn't changed the world to some degree by winning the Democratic primary.

Go ahead. Tell me how he has no chance to win the presidency. Tell me why you are positive that Americans won't vote for him. Throw his middle name at me. Tell me he has no experience. Yeah. Yeah Yeah. I've heard it all before. In fact, I heard it all about a year ago . . . .right before he won another "unwinnable" race against an "unbeatable" opponent.

Comment: That was the absolute truth.
I love hearing the reasons why he won't. It all comes down to the same thing.
        Culture. Fear. Comfort zone.

Comment: And what on earth has Hillary done but pander and chang the rules everyday..if we had republican rules,I'd be the winner...ifMI and FL were counted, I would win...etc. if, if, if... Experience? What experience? If you went to see your internist of 20 years and she wasn't there but her husband showed up and said.. "she's not here but I've been married to her for 30 years so i can look after you."..would you let him touch you? Tusla... we're not going there. She has absolutely no integrity! We are sickened with each passing day!
