Now On to ‘Florigan’!

Just the threat of a convention floor fight gives Hillary a weapon to use both in private and in public.

    1) The Florida Democratic Primary was moved up by Florida's REPUBLICAN controlled legislature, not Hillary Clinton, or the Florida Democratic Party. Florida Democrats had NO CONTROL over the moving up of their state primary. Consequently, it seems unreasonable that voters in Florida's Democratic primary be penalized for a decision (to move the primary up), that they had no say in.
    2) Florida Democrats (including Obama and Clinton delegates) filed suit against the DNC yesterday, alleging that a DNC refusal to seat FLA delegates violates the Voting Rights Act. which provides that the Justice Department must approve significant voting changes that could disenfranchise black voters.
Both Clinton and Obama supporters are part of the suit to have Florida's delegates seated, citing, among other things, Florida's history of discrimination against African-American voters and the fact that refusing to seat FLA delegates amounts to disenfranchising such voters.

There are many of us who have been insulted with the way Hillary has run her campaign. Her Obama only has a "speech" comment was very insulting, not only to his supporters, but I'm sure to the candidate himself. Apparently, the candidates are brushing it off as "just politics" - at least that's what Bill Clinton recently told reporters. Others of us have been insulted by her Bosnia tale. I'm sure many who believed that tale felt duped by the reality.

Hillary wants a scapegoat (not unusual for anyone who wants to blame someone else when they lose) - misogyny, the press, etc. She's also looking for a way to keep her political career alive and well (and Bill's legacy restored). Neither of them have campaigned in a way that many Democrats have thought responsible. Recently invoking Karl Rove has not been helpful. She had Olbermann's support until she played the fear card which has vehemently bashed Bush for. That was his turning point - he couldn't be true to his own positions had he continued to support her.

Yes, she has had big victories in PA, WV and KY. Unfortunately, she did not find her "voice" until it was too late in the primary process. She began this campaign assuring Kati Currick that she "would be the nominee" and planned to have this sewed up by Super Tuesday. When that failed, she had no ground game ready in the caucus states. She had very bad advice from Mark Penn and others in her campaign.

The FL Democractic legislators knew exactly what they were doing - the bill the Repbulicans put forth to move the date up also included an amendment to purchase electronic voting machines, something the Dems have been trying to get since 2000. They voted for the machines over the date.

In MI 29 Dems and 38 Republicans voted for the bill to move the date up. A Democractic political consultant filed a lawsuit to stop the date. The state's highest court, by a 4-3 decision voted to allow the election date but adjusted it to meet the with the court's decisions.

Based on my math, had the (Democratic) governor vetoed the bill, there would not have been enough votes to overturn the veto. That was not done. The article I read on this did not delve into this part of the story.

What we are all waiting to see is whether or not Hillary will carry this to the convention or demand the V-P slot. I'm not certain she's in a position to demand, which is probably why she's pushing the misogyny, so her supporters will demand she be put on the ticket. Should this end up in a floor fight at the convention, history has proven that neither party who ends up in a floor fight will win the general election. Do we/does she want to take that risk? I do not. We'll soon see Hillary's position.
