Comment: By the way the powerseller sales $ levels required by month (or averaged over 3 mos) are as follows: $1,000 for Bronze, $3,000 for silver, $10,000 for gold, $25,000 for platinum and $150K for Titanium. Any gold seller you see is prob. making at least $120,000 a year and a platinum seller is making $300,000, Titanium 1.8 million. Perhaps Ebay would release the number /level of powersellers and you would have an answer to the story's question.

Additionally, someone should write a story on the feedback... in my opinion it is a concerning marketing/management move.

Comment: I disagree with the author a bit, I know that there are many people making a living on ebay. I started buying on ebay 10 years ago and selling original upscale artwork professionally 4 years ago. My income has steadily risen to $125,000 in revenue / $85 in income. I would consider this a good living for most, especially since I am a stay-at-home mother raising my four children. I don't have to pay for nanny care and I can work when I want to in my pjs if I choose. I am lucky enough to have a husband with his own business so it is a second stream of income for us but I definitely consider it "earning a living". I know many other artists (perhaps 2-300+) who are doing this full-time, bead sellers, pottery makers, drapery sewers, etc. Many artists in my category are probably making 2 to 4 times what I am making. There are still good margins out there, but just like anyone who owns their own business, it IS hard work, always will be when the profits are all yours. - Artist on Ebay

Comment: It would be very difficult to earn a living on ebay. I'm a bronze power seller so my sales average 12,000. per year. By the time I pay ebay fees, paypal fees, cost of product, shipping supplies, office supplies and misc. expense (fuel cost etc.) my profit is only about 4,000 per year or 375.00 per month. For that it involves about 20 hours per week. I think to earn a full time living on ebay one would have to have a minimum of 300,000.worth of inventory listed at all times. The sell through rate on ebay is about 10% per month. And I'm no novice....I've been at it for 10 years. I simply would be too afraid at this point to borrow enough start up captial to try to earn a full time living on ebay. Too many changes leaving the sellers open to buyer fraud on a constant basis. It's a hostile selling enviroment on their lately.
