Al Green is busy. He's leading his Memphis church and touring for his album "Lay It Down." He spoke to Joshua Alston.

Where are you?
I'm in New Orleans doing Jazz Fest. It goes from April to May.

Is this the first gig playing the songs from the new album?
Oh, yeah! We're doing the "Lay It Down." Where are you?

I ' m in New York.
So you're going to get "Your Love Is Just for Me," the second track; number four; number seven, "Your Love Is Too Much." Josh, it's just too much. When you come to that realization that a thing is just too much, then you just do what Al did on the record. You just say, "This is just too much!"

Can love be too much?
Like beyond expression, is what I'm trying to say. I can't really explain it.

Because it ' s too much.
Yeah. It's just over the top, you know? That's when you have someone who loves you for you. Not for your wallet. I love Joshua because I just met him, he's a levelheaded, beautiful guy, and I just love him.

That would be really nice.
Hell-o! "Lay It Down"!

How often do you get to preach?
I preached last Sunday.
