Corncernig RFK, I guess we will never know. We have other problems than "What If"s". What a waste of news space.

Dont worry we live in the ERA of the Internet and the space is virtual there will be plenty room for what you call real news. I am glad they found room for this however. what is a waste though is all the Obama and McCain talk here. I mean I undertand a few jabs here and there but so much talk about killing political officials on a message post dealing with the very same topic and here we are 40 years later.
Making this What if question very Valid cause we see that since his death not much has changed.

There is never an original thought from the myopic right wing hatemongers. They reiterate what they hear on Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly and spout this misinformation like it is some great wisdom. They apparently like paying 4 dollars for gas, are apathetic to all the death and destruction in Iraq, turn a blind eye to all the lay offs, foreclosures, corporate malfeasance, etc. This is business as usual for Republicans. Of course if you envision a dystopia for the United States, a greater polarization of wealth, high unemployment, corruption,(there shall be weeping and nashing of teeth) keep voting for republicans by all means. What a great track record they have(Watergate, Iran Contra, trickle down economics, huge deficits, 911...it happened during dubya's watch...remember the p.d.b's?, the War in Iraq(what happened to Osama bin Laden?, Valerie Plame leak, etc et-freakin-cetera). If you aren't wealthy and you fall for that lame republican rhetoric about tax and spend liberals and vote against your best interests once again than you are either a masochist or certifiably insane.(The equivalent of Charlie Brown, ever confident that Lucy will hold that football for him and ever the fool to fall on his ass when she pulls it away.)
Brit in the US Im glad your in the US, lol. Well said my friend well said.
I like to remember the best in people. "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." People are flawed, even the greatest leaders; forget their individual shortcomings. I prefer to remember how they changed the wolrd.
Must we forever read romantic drival about Robert Kennedy? You mention Richard Nixon in here as the consumate schemer -- but Richard Nixon (and his wife Pat) had lived the American Dream...they had worked hard and been a part of the real life of American'sin the 20th century.
The Kennedy's only discovered (by their own admission) that there had been a depression in America as late as1960 while campaigning in West Virginia some 30 years after the Depression had begun. Talk about being out of touch. Robert Kennedy had lived a life of relative ease in the bubble of wealth. He did not understand America and was a divisive political figure at the time of his terrible death.
Robert Kennedy was not going to be the nominee in 1968. He had not even had the courage to challenge President Lyndon Johnson -- he only jumped in after Senator Eugene McCarthy had already forced Johnson out of the race. The way Democratic Party politics worked back then assured Hubert Humphrey of the nomination. Kennedy was an ego trip...certainly and eloquent and elegant one...but not one that understood the political climate of 1968.
Robert Kennedy is a myth of the elitist media...we are to worship a 'what might have been that was never going to be' from the man who ordered Dr. King to be secretly taped and was known to belittle King in private conversations at trendy Washington parties.
Please, enough already with this nonsense. Kennedy was ruthless, unprincipled, felt entitled and would have been nothing had in not been for the family wealth. Perhaps a serious article on other political leaders of his era would be far more enlightening. This article surely is not.
Yes, apparently you must read romanitcized versions of our past leaders since the current administration is devoid of logic, accomplishment, and, most importantly, "compassionate conservativism". While you (and the other 27% of America still drinking the Koolaid) have every right to go on supporting this clan of inept morons, the other 73% of the country will be working on a better place for our children.
BTW, Mr. Scaredofobama, you should be more scared of $10/gallon of gas and that bridge crumbling underneath your 5 mpg rusty pick-up.
dacoach1967: I'm not sure why you assume so much that you could possibly not know about my current political views...but surely all of us work for a better world for ourselves and our children. Though, I've never known anyone serious about a better world who uses the word 'moron' to describe someone for which they disagree.
My definition of a moron: "Brownie, you've done one heckuva job."
If you happen to believe GWB's handling of the New Orleans effort (from bottled water to embalment laced trailers) does not qualify as nothing short of inept and, yes, moronic, then yes I assume too much from you.
And no, all of us do NOT surely work for a better world. That sounds even more naive than BO's foreign policy..
This was an article about Robery Kennedy...correct? None of my comment were about the current President...so what are you talking about? Let's stay on thesubject of RFK here if we can. Thanks...
What was the reason for writing this article? What if Adolph Hitler and Fidel Castro had never been born? That would have had a much more dramatic impact on the world than if RFK became president.
What the hell are you talking about. You have to realize that if this article were titled what if Fidel Castro and Hitler had never been born You would have had a problem with that as well. Furthermore the reason why your article wasnt written is because 40 years ago on JUNE FIFTH RFK was shot 3 times. not the guys that you mentioned so today we discuss Robert is that ok with you Mr Wizard. why dont you conjure up an article about what if the world woud have been without Hitler and Castro but I'm pretty sure they have been written before and I have no doubts they will be written again.

***over $300 lunches. Sorry, was shaking when I wrote that. Don't spend that much on food in a month!
Of course, powerful people behind the scene had him killed because of his radical ideas, and they will do the same with Obama if he is elected. This country is run by the most powerful mafia in the world.
I agree with you. These things have been happening since the end of WWII, actually. "The Goverment Within The Goverment". JFK was a danger to large business "interests" that stood to gain out of a long, large-scale war in Viet Nam. Threatening to "splinter the CIA" , and voicing it publically, was nearly signing your own death warrant. RFK made simular enemies.
Let's try and stay in reality Evan, shall we? It sucks, but the rest of us have to do it, so you talking heads with too much money and time on your hands sitiing in your cushy offices, conducting your interview of $300 lunches, etc. need to stay in it with us.
Gee Evan, "What If"? Do you actually get paid to write these stories?
What If you only got paid to write, or comment on issues based on facts, rather than your opinions???
You'd starve, that's "What If?"
.
looks like bardic fool is appropriately named
You have a problem with the fact that, unlike most of those posting here, I actually paid attention in history class, and I read books? I admitted that my comment about Ted Kennedy is speculation (though based on facts surrounding the assassinations of his brothers), but you can look up the facts about Vietnam and the Bay of Pigs, they are verifiable. Or is it too painful to admit that your rightie-tightie heroes like Nixon were wrong?
Yes, I too distinctly remember Mr. Reagan's War on Dogs!
I'm so glad my dad taught me the difference between right and wrong. I was married with kids in the 60's and worked and went to college. People were responsible for themselves and their families. We didn't spend time worrying about all the garbage of politics because we didn't didn't have the time or the interest. It's really too bad that people need to make others beleive what they think instead of beleiving in themselves.
America needs some common sense and don't blame any politician of any party for your lack of anything.
As a young teenager, I worked with great vigor (to quote Mr. Kennedy) and was proud to be a part of his campaign. Young people everywhere were devastated when we lost him and lost the promise of his candidacy. He was indeed a great man and a man ahead of his times. I hope to see those ideals carried on by Mr. Obama.
I was able to meet RFK on the side of the road in Windside, Nebraska as his motorcade traveled from Norfolk to Wayne State College just weeks before his death. A small crowd of mothers and children( I was 9) had gathered at the edge of town to wave to the passing cars. The cars pulled over and stopped. I stood at the side of his car, inches from him as he was shaking hands and talking to us. I remember my mother telling him he looked tired. He just smiled that big teeth smile and said yes. I don't know if I would have ever voted for RFK; but I think he would have been a great leader. RFK was a man of BIG substance and great experience. I see Obama as a man of just BIG talk , no experience, and no substance. I think people will rally and vote for him for the wrong reasons. With a Democratic controlled Senate and House; we are in deep trouble. Watch the handouts begin and our taxes rise. KLL
Your "handout" is another man's bridge and/or levee repair.
The only good thing I can say about this POS is, we still do not know if HE murdered anyone like his younger brother. I jumped for joy the day I heard the news.
Gotta love our country's "compassionate Christian conservatives" who jump for joy when someone is murdered.
Culture of Life? Err on the side of life? Pro-life?
In fact, pick a topic and I'll give you a right wing-nut slogan that employs the word "LIFE".
Craig, you may want to hold off on some of those comments. Though I agree with most, the US is far from prosperous - our workers have never made less than they do today or had lower standards of living. We are far from stable and with the coming elections that stability will worsen regardless of out come. And finally with the passing of the patriot act, passed under the guise of fear, we are less free than we have ever been in history and that too will get worse regardless of the out come of the next election. Geoege Washington and Thomas Jefferson predicted this when they warned of the limited two party system. Also history has proven all governments can and will destroy themselves they simply eat themselves alive by becoming too large and controlling - Julius Ceaser, Hitler, Soviet Union and if we're not careful democracy!
"Far from prosperous?" "never made less than they do today?"
We live in a country where "the poor" live in houses with air conditioning, own automobiles (sometimes even TWO automobiles), and travel by air.
We live in a country where there is no fear of rioting over the length of bread lines, no fear of martial law crackdowns, no fear of widespread ethnic violence
I grew up in SE Asia. I know life in the third world, where a motorized bicycle is a luxury item, where ethnic violence occurs on a daily basis, and where authoritarian governments dictate your every move from cradle to grave.
I love this country, and it saddens me that people here do not see what I see: A stable, prosperous, and free society that is destroying itself by embracing the agenda of Communists such as Obama, Clinton, Kennedy, and Pelosi.
I believe RFK had great potential, but was not the cure-all this article makes him out to be. The author makes it out that his vocal pitch was his only weakness. Please... RFK was much more polarizing than this aricle potrays. That was glossed over by this starry eyed writer. Even worse, it's author is subtly biased against conservatism, which ultimately weakens the points he tries to make to idolize RFK. Would have been much more compelling if the analysis was completed in an objective fashion. As it is, this "What If" article is in RFK la-la land.
I agree Athena, and lets remember "a government that can give everything to everyone is large enought to take it all away".
I want those bullets back!
Imagine if we could just pluck a few bullets from the bloody tapestry of the past. If we could only freeze that fatal bullet before it hit John F. Kennedy, or retract the rounds that struck down Martin Luther King, Malcolm X or Bobby Kennedy. Just imagine if we could, imagine the revolutions, imagine the massive difference removing just one of those bullets would make...
It's so sad that the very traits that make our greatest leaders GREAT, often end up costing them their lives. It pains my heart to think of how much closer we would be in this nation, if Martin Luther King had not been struck down; if his brilliant heart and mind had been allowed even 1 more year.
In the dim light of my mind's eye, I can see a grey-haired Jack Kennedy serving proudly as an elder statesman, guiding and instructing new generations of leaders, carefully escorting us all toward a better America. I can see Bobby Kennedy and Malcolm X, older and wiser, busily nurturing social and political movements; building coalitions and creating a climate of hope and optimism where progressive ideas are not crushed, but encouraged. I can see Martin Luther King and John Edwards stamping out poverty in the U.S. and abroad and paving the way for smart, long-lasting economic reforms.
In the not too distant tomorrow that might have been, I can see a great speech by John Lennon at the Hillary Clinton / Elizabeth Edwards Universal Health Care Organization marking it's 5th anniversary and celebrating a successful campaign to cover every U.S. citizen and create a health care system with prevention and healthy citizens as its only goal!
I can hear John Lennon's song "Imagine" lifting softly to my ears, as the cold and brutal blast of reality drapes over me, breaking the dreamy haze of still-born aspirations.
I WANT THOSE BULLETS BACK! -- Steve Ford
My god what the hell are you smokin, must be good stuff.
That is beautiful And that you are the only person who has mentioned John Edwards (that I have noticed) is awesome. We need more optimistic people like you in this world and then maybe we can have those things. Even without those great minds lost 4 decades ago.
