The comment about a lobotomey was crude and meaningless. We can all play the what if game. If certain things hadn't happened in history we definetely would bein a different world now maybe a beter one maybe a worse one. Hard to say what these great people may have contributed to what and who we have become. I think RFK would have been a great President and would have dobne well.

meaningless!!! you got kids? how would you like it if your other half took one of yours and had a lobotomy done without telling you, go smoke some more crack!! you half wit.

Oh Please....Teddy never ran, becuase he could never have pulled it off. With the drinking and gambling and track of destruction he left in his wake he could never have been a viable choice. He is and was perfect for the job his has congressman in a state where if your name is Kennedy you can get anway with anything.

Can anyone explain to me why the press in this country persists in dreaming up reasons to put the dead Kennedy men in front of us again? I was 6 when JFK was shot. I have probably seen the replay of that incident 200 times. I have seen the worldwide press torment his widow for years. Why? I always blipped to the next channel whenever there was a torment Jackie O story. I came to so pity the woman. I live out west and don't see anyone that supports the constant bantering about the Kennedy family. We don't wonder about that out here - The two Kennedy brothers are dead, Jackie O is dead, Princess Di is dead, bury them and go on!

He was running for President when he was murdered. And its a Kennedy curse. And that's why Edward never did it. I think he would have been just like is brother. I would have loved to see if Martin Luther King, was still alive and ran for president I think that man would get in office

    • Posted By: scaredofobama @ 06/05/2008 9:26:02 AM

lmao King would be over 85 years old by now. Maybe he could choose Sen. Byrd whos 90 to be VP. Wake up the reason this country sits around and says WHAT IF is because they cant decide for themselves to get a life. Instead they choose the very Government they bash to get bigger and bigger and bigger. Freebees for all. Yay long like th great King Obama. "Fools"

Mccain is a Bush Disciple and we all know how that has turned out. God help us if he is elected. We will be stuck in Iraq for the next twenty years.

  • Posted By: CSMFrank @ 06/05/2008 6:39:37 AM

What about the theory that John-John was taken out by the Clintons? He would have been old enough to run for the presidency this year. Strange how things turn out, eh? I guess they never saw Barack coming.

    • Posted By: mspidge @ 06/05/2008 7:59:27 AM

and you are going to wish you had not seen obama coming, If that creep gets elected, I would like to be able to see your comments in about a year into his presidency, your going to be screaming like a cut cat, when your pay check (if you have one that is) gets cut in half for dum nuts entiltement programs, unless of course your one who will reap the bennys from them

      • Posted By: mardec @ 06/05/2008 8:08:27 AM

Well dumb dumb where have you been the last 8 years. Under McDumb Bush, we have lost jobs, worse
medical care, more lives in an already costly war we should not have been in, and this man has some
dirty secrets in his closet. Our poverty level is growing every day with the unemployment rate climbing. And you want to blame Obama. Bush has done such a nasty and dumb job already, that anyone after this has to be a step up.

        • Posted By: mspidge @ 06/05/2008 9:09:36 AM

Your the dummy, when you have friends like ayers you don't need any enemies, obama has most of them in his back pocket, like I said dummy, we'll see which side of your mouth your talking out of a year from now, if obama the great gets elected

Mr. Thomas forgets that the Bay of Pigs operation was planned under the Eisenhower administration, and was never really approved or disapproved by Kennedy (much as most modern historians forget that the first 'advisors' were sent to Vietnam in the period between 1955 and 1957, long before Kennedy was even a blip on the political radar of the time). Kennedy, in fact, withdrew the air support from it because he believed the invasion to be a wrong-headed waste that would send the wrong signals to the world, which proved to be entirely correct.
I also find the comment of McCainwillwin interesting, since I, too, believe Mary Jo Kopechne was murdered, but not, as implied, by Ted Kennedy. Based on the road layout, I believe there was another car on the bridge Kennedy drove off of, and he did drive off it to avoid that car. The occupants of that other car met Ted Kennedy on the shore when he got out, and advised him that he could either allow Miss Kopechne to die, or he could go back down into the car and 'join his brothers.' This makes at least as much sense as the unsupported allegation in McCainwillwin's comment, and has the benefit of not relying on believing Ted Kennedy was the drunken sod the right-wing press has played him as for far too long.
And Pat Paulson would have been no worse than anyone else who was running at the time; he, at least, had a genuine sense of humor.

If he had lived, we could have made him King, and lived happily ever after.

The Kennedy Era? Tell me the political and social contributions of either man. Neither ever passed any major legislation in the congress, neither was pro-civil rights and in fact Robert F. Kennedy when he was attorney general, gave his approval for the first wire taps against Martin Luther King Jr. because he feared Martin Luther King's movement. I am always disappointed in the Americans who fall vicitime to the Kennedy family's control over the media and the manipulation that occurs as a result. Now they are trying to cover for years of bigotry from the Kennedy clan under the guises of supporting Barrack Obama, to bad Obama was allowing it, it means he is subject to having to approve of bigots in order to win the election, not the most flatering realilty for a black man....

Interesting point! However, you forget that most Americans have an extremley short memory and are too wraped up in themselves. Does anyone even remember 911? What day of the week it was? Everyone is too busy hating everyone else today then to worry about who supported who 40 yers ago.

I think this article make a good point, largely forgotten by most. It was far from a foregone conclusion that RFK would even be the nominee. What did happen, with the untimely deaths of JFK, MLK and RFK was in my opinion much more powerful than if they'd lived. They were all immortalized and dare I say, Idealized. In the case of RFK, had he lived, I believe he would have probably lost the general election to Nixon, by a razor thin margin.

Every time I get to DC I make a point of going to Arlington to see JFK and RFKs grave. I look at them laugh and urinate on them. Why? because JFKs presidency was a stolen one in which he sent the first American combat troops to viet Nam. He was responsible for the deaths of over 50,000 young Americans. RFK was no better, We should celebrate their death not mourn them. How many more liifes would have been lost if RFK was elected? So join us in our yearly Urination Celebration held at Kennedys grave every June 21st. Hope to see you there. PS bring your boots, we expect a big turn out this year.

          You're right, but McCain WILL : P

          • Posted By: Leen13 @ 06/05/2008 8:56:14 AM

            even worse...and no, he won't

Agreed! What made them so Great! Their family fortune came by ILLEAGAL alcohol shipping by the family patriarch and we're suppose to think of this family as some kind of great American family. The Democrates are always using the Vietnam war as a badge of the bad outcomes of war and hold it up as a comparison of every conflict a "Republican gets us into...It was a Repubilcan-Nixon- who got us out of Vietnam that Kennedy and Johnson dragged us into! Why not praise Nixon for at least that minor accomplishment! Kennedys what an embarrassing American example!

The savageness of man are documented in the book "Brothers The Kennedy Years". RFK would have made gentle the life of this world.

What IF? What IF? What if Hitler had won the war? What if the South had won the Civil War? The world would be a terrible place...the world would be a better place.I didn't even read the Dumb A** article.... How Frickin' ridiculous!

    • Posted By: kapost01 @ 06/05/2008 8:45:23 AM

The Aeschyllus quote in the article is one small demonstration of the fact that RFK was extremely well educated and articulate-how many politicians have such cultural package these days? But then again, I don't suppose you've ever heard of Aeschyllus, have you? There is obviously a "cultural gap" here and I will leave it up to you to figure out who has the culture and who has the gap. ...
