Wow! Eleanor didn't know that you were also a women hater. Whine? Such a poor choice of words. But I bet it sells magazines. No one is whining the primaries are close, Hillary has every rigtht to keep on trying and for her supporters to keep on supporting her. Pointing out sexim is whining? I guess all woman should just shut up and get back to the kitchen.

Your article adds to the real sense of grievance we women are all "whining" about. Your choice of the word "whining" trivializes our concerns...it is a sexist word, like "shrill", often used to denigrate women. You say you acknowledge sexism in the campaign, and then give examples like Obama pulling out a chair for Hillary- as if that is the level of sexism that is occurring in the campaign, and that we are all "silly" (another favorite Obama put-down word) and over-reacting women. We are not. The sexism has been virulent, and it is legitimate to say that Clinton has been disadvantaged by it in her campaign. We have every right to demonstrate outside the DNC meeting today, and Hillary has every right to take her fight to the convention if needed. Enough with the "be a good loser" , "think of the party". The worst sexism of all is the superdelegates betting that Clinton's female supporters are more likely to "come home"- read- DO WHAT WE TELL THEM TO DO- in Nov. because they are women, so not the same threat as "racial unrest" which might come if Obama were not nominated. I can't imagine someone writing a column like yours telling Obama supporters to suck it up and "stop whining", if the superdelegates had had the guts to go for Hillary. Ms. Clift, your loyalties are misguided and your closet Hillary-hate is showing.

Thank goodness I never have to take a class taught by O'Connor. The Clinton campaign got this blue dog thinking about voting Repub for the first time in my life. Sexist? Absolutely not. It was the lies, the front, the hustles and the energy draining Clintonian drama. She bungled her campaign; so why would she be a better president? It is these issues and questions that have me adamantly anti-Clinton.

It's not particularly startling to me that Professor O'Connor would say that, all else being equal, for her gender is more of a tiebreaker than race. That is a fair value judgment for her to make as an individual. But her position is completely undermined by the fact that all else is not equal between Senator Clinton and Senator Obama. From a policy perspective, sure. But Presidents are not made or unmade by policy positions alone. It is also about their leadership abilities, and Senator Obama's superior leadership style has shown through during his campaign. Moreover, Professor O'Connor is wrong about the future of women in presidential politics. Senator Obama could select a woman vice presidential nominee from the many prominent women who serve a leadership role in his campaign. But what this primary campaign has demonstrated more clearly than anything else is that a viable candidate can come from virtually nowhere and derail an heir apparent. If Senator Obama does not select a woman as his vice presidential nominee, I predict that there will be several viable woman candidates the next time the Democratic primary is contested. Apart from the triumvirate of Govs. Napolitano and Sebelius and Senator McCaskill, my personal favorite is Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.
