The media thinks we're full-time sex freaks./horny animals which have no sense of moral values..I'm 19 and I think it's shameful. We have created a culture that revolves around sex and we're to blame.
People have put so much emphasis on sex- as if it were the most important aspect in one's daily life..
Yea, sex is great, it's human nature, and it's beautiful when it completes one's relationship with his or her significant other.. But must we really focus on it so much?!. come on! there are other things in life!
Everything I see around me has to do with sex~
We've got magazines telling us to "boost our sex lives".. almost-naked females advertising cleaning products..we have retail brands telling us we'l be "sexier" if we purchase their jeans. drugs that promise u a " larger penis".. pills that " increase ur bust"..
It is no wonder the tv industry keeps adding more perversion to its shows; because sex sells. and why does it sell? because a lot of people accept it- and buy it. - because we've turned into brainless hormone-driven beasts.

It is our responsibility to stand in the face of the media- by boycotting and complaining against explicit scenes; esp those that may encourage animal-like sexual behaviour.

(People who want to see sex on tv- can watch porn.)

std's and teen pregnancy, teachers arrested for violating children (of both sexs), a teen arrested for beasiality, polygomy, and debauchery aside, it seems that G rated movies are grossing best at the box office and show the publics prefrence for family content. why is hollywoods agenda to transform America's homes into thier idea of moral or immoral standard? the constant push to bring us into a garbage dump of relative morality has caused the confusion we have today. they want us to approve and embrace their perversion and give them the recognition for the grotesque they crave.

Exactly. Darn Hollywood agenda. This and gay marriage is what is ruining America.

Not inflation, unemployment, an unending civil war, the disappearance of the middle class, the housing crisis, etc, etc, etc. Way to stay focused on the IMPORTANT issues. Keep watching Fox News like the rest of the sheep....BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Previous did not accept Japanese or Chinese characters)
    Best City For Sex:

I personally don't think New York is the sexiest city in the world. Sex have always been the most favorite pre-occupation for spy. Humiharu Yoshiko Kawashima who was the Japanese spy appeared in the movie "The Last Emperor." According to the movie, she was one of the sexiest person in history because she would have sex with the gay emperor, the lesbian empress, and the straight male head of Japanese secret service. James Bond 007 was simply the world worse sex maniac which was known to have sex with more than 100 of the world's most beautiful women. One may be curious to know as to where "Lover Boy James" (LBJ) Bond and Humiharu Yoshiko Kawashima want to be when they are trying to make love since both of them are located at islands at opposite sides of the globe?

What, a hell, of a question? and the answer will again be, a hell, of an answer. If you know what I mean. When one try to measure the shortest distance between Japan and Britain such location will be the ideal place for JamesBond and Humiharu Yoshiko Kawashima to get together and have sex. Since Japan and Britain are both kingdoms it will definitely a place to be when ".... the Kingdom Come (together)" By the same token, that place will also become "A Kingdom of Cums!" Hell, what a great place to be for love making!

Who is Sarah Jessica Parker's most favorite lover among more than 50 men she have affairs with in Sex and the City? Since she was a writer and never willing to settle down with one lover in that TV series. Her favorite lover will certainly her Parker Fountain pen filled up with hot water!

Nice try, Joshua, but your argument that diluting adult TV shows to pass mass media muster actually improves them comes up short. And to hear the creators of ???Swingtown??? seemingly relish their new found constraints as some sort of creative muse is beyond cynical (They had to tone it down to make the sale, so of course it???s still a great show, in fact it???s even better now ??? spare me please)
Let???s say The Sopranos rates a 100 on a 1 -100 scale, then the abridged version is probably an 85, which is still much better than the tired formulas and shallow, stock characters of major network TV. However, there???s no substitute for seeing with our own eyes: Tony in the Bada Bing with breasts pressed in his face, or his afternoon sex session with a co-worker when he struggles to slog through a day at his phony day job ??? then he goes home to his wife and we can truly juxtapose the many facets of his character.
There is a place for serious adult TV (just not on CBS) -- though why innumerable TV shows soaked in blood don???t seem to rouse much ire from parents is beyond me. But that???s a discussion for another day.

why dont we all just go around naked 24/7 and have sex in front of the kids...in fact make them do it too. cuz sex is beautiful and should not be repressed.
guess why God asks women to cover themselves in islam?
same reason why nothing sells as fast as sex.

America is great? Are we becoming a country full of voyeurs? Almost makes one wish for Sharia law to be introduced here.

  • Posted By: sjbrock80 @ 06/03/2008 4:08:00 PM

My wife and I just have sex 3 or 4 times a night. Then we get to participate in the sex without having to watch people who don't know how to do it right on TV. Afterwards, we just watch sports or the news. Nothing else is worth the time.

Hey a Mormon here. Just like to clarify that the characters in "Big Love" aren't Mormon. The creators even put that at the start of the show. We haven't practiced Polygamy since this 19th century. For those in the audience counting thats over 100 years ago.

So Newsweek you mind making an edit there? If the creators of the show can add that so can you.

    • Posted By: sjbrock80 @ 06/03/2008 4:04:55 PM

Lots of Mormons practice polygamy still...seen the news lately?

You people need to move to Myanmar. Maybe then you value your freedom.

Give me a break, the 70's had more sex related highlights than the last 3 decades combined. Ratings are what drives TV producers to make shows so there must be some a big audience. We have soldiers dying to give other people....and you just want to throw it away. Lighten up you bunch uptight conservative bunch of prudes.

I'm sick of hearing about your children.

I've always been strongly against censorship. I would like to see actual sex taking place in a tv show or movie. Why? Because porn is so hollow, so shallow - sure there are some beautiful people having some hot sex, but with little or no story, or character developement it gets boring. Conversely, with TV and movies, they tease you with nudity, the actors fake sex positions, fake the movements, fake the noises. What if, they were actually having sex? A solid story, character developement so you care about them and understand them a bit, and real sex. That would be the perfect combination for me. Eventually, it will get there. The war against prudes and censors rages on. To say showing sex isn't tasteful, that's like saying BEING HUMAN isn't tasteful. When did sex become a bad thing or a dirty secret? Thanks, organized religion, for teaching us that something so natural and so beautiful is something to feel guilty about and cannot be show.

    • Posted By: Whitestone @ 06/02/2008 8:01:00 AM

Hmmm, a voyeur. You don't get the point, Voyeur. Some enjoy their personal sex lives but do not care to view someone else's, or even TV's version of someone else. To some of us, sex is a personal and private matter, and yes, natural and beautiful. It has nothing to do with prudishness, censorship, or organized religion. Your argument is invalid...I could rephrase it to this..."To say eliminating body waste isn't tasteful, that's like saying BEING HUMAN isn't tasteful." But I guess there are people who are into that, too.

  • Posted By: Whitestone @ 06/02/2008 7:54:06 AM

This is exactly why we don't watch much television anymore. We are no longer part of the viewing audience and our life is a lot more interesting just living.

  • Posted By: book134 @ 06/01/2008 4:14:00 PM

This article is very misleading. The truth is that there are few countries in the world that are as sexually repressed as is the US & English speaking countries like the UK, Australia, & New Zealand. TV & almost all media in the US is heavily edited & censored in order to abide by extremely repressive US laws & rules regarding all type of sex.

    • Posted By: redleopard @ 06/01/2008 9:10:54 PM

Sexually repressed countires or not; who really cares about watching show "about" who gets some and who doesn't? If people are so into voyuerism then rent a porn flick or hang out in one of those triple-X places.

The majority of cable TV's shows are stupid, disgusting or immoral. It really makes me wonder why we pay so much for so little value. The History Channel, PBS, evening news, CSPAN, sports game, and occasional movie are about the only things my husband and I watch. Why are people amazed when we have child molestation and violent crimes? One would expect that at least the major networks would follow a family-values driven moral compass, but there they fall short most of the time.

  • Posted By: jillh @ 05/31/2008 8:14:41 AM

The thing that scares me the most about this is the future for my children. Especially the fact that I have boys b/c they won't turn it off when they get older if mom and dad aren't around. What televison does, and what it has been doing for a long time now, is skewing what is truly important in life. A lot of these actors/actresses are such fools to even agree to some of the stuff they do and they wonder why their marriages fall apart??!! Yes, I do turn the tv off, in fact, my husband and I rarely watch tv b/c it seems when we are watching something w/ the kids even commercials these days are totally out of line. it's quite frantkly, completely unacceptable what's on TV these days. I wish something could be done with all of it.

    • Posted By: Guest173 @ 06/01/2008 4:26:46 AM

there is the v-chip option and you can find ways to delete/block channels. you don't have to let your kids have easy access to it

      • Posted By: Guest173 @ 06/01/2008 4:30:49 AM

oh yeah, your kids will be getting it in their e-mails too, especially if they go to college, playboy and the others seem to buy mailing lists from the universities. it might be good to just teach your kids why that isn't so good, diseases, unwanted children, bad marriages, and how to have a good one, do it while they're young

  • Posted By: Guest173 @ 06/01/2008 4:24:00 AM

at least this article isn't talking about free channels. I would not pay for that, and our family blocks all the rest of the channels anyway except for PBS and SkyAngel

  • Posted By: mbahr @ 06/01/2008 3:13:05 AM

Icyflame3---Characters in Big Love aren't Mormon????? Are you kidding me? I was raised Mormon--and these characters are SO MORMON! This is what fascinates me about the show. I love it! The honesty, authenticity and the heart of Mormon culture are captured perfectly. Great show!

Without commenting whether it's good or bad, this direction is following where Europe and Japan went a long time ago. All those countries regard America as very prudish, and don't even see the point of our reactions. As more people travel, and even relocate, internationally, I think it will be hard to keep us an oasis of different values.

    • Posted By: jazzbebop @ 05/31/2008 5:04:59 PM

It will be hard to keep us with different values if you continue to think it will be. Why don't you just make a stand now, instead of Hollywood and Europe trying to sway you? Heck if they can sway you, they can sway your kids, your nephews, nieces, everyone you know and then some.
