Another example of stupid PC overshadowing common sense. Te ad should have stayed.

I am so freaking sick of people saying - oh it's not ALL muslim men and it's not ALL of this or that - I'm sorry but I have not seen any major uprising against this at least "seen" majority. If some crazy fringe sect of Catholics flew some planes into buldings and killed this many people and all that has followed since, do you think for a second that the rest of the real, good, decent, peace loving Catholics wouldn't stand up and say "NO. THIS IS NO PART OF US. WE WILL MAKE IT RIGHT." Work and donate and anything else that would be needed to make sure this was clearly not a part of our true beliefs???? But Muslims will wait until someone is kinda sick of all the silence and say something blanketed comment like that and then all the sudden no that's not all of us. That's all anyone hears about! And go ahead blame it on media. oh they just don't cover the good. Make them! Start a friggin foundation or something!! Well then do something about it! We know at least a couple of ya got a crap load of money. Make a splash. And don't anyone even try to give me the - oh catholics are a good example, pedophiles and crusades - A. pedophiles, c'mon. that is sick people using the priesthood as a cover. they were not priests that liked kids, they are sickos that liked kids and became priests to get close to them. B. crusades were a long time ago, we have, as a human race grew and learned and moved on. Somehow the bedrock of human society, where it all began and what used to be the first of knowledge and growth has been left behind in the dark ages. the whole region should brighten up.
Bravo to Lorraine Lee! You spoke the words right out of my mouth! We need more people like you to inform the world of whats really going on. (:
This is a great/ funny article. This is a great example of lunatic right wing pundits acting like, well, lunatics. The idea that a scarf that looks like a kaffiyeh worn by Rachel Ray could mean that Dunkin Donuts is promoting terrorism and jihadism is preposterous. I agree with everything Lorraine Ali wrote, except about the Blueberry Cake Donut, that thing is delicious. I gladly risk that calorie and fat intake for that deliciousness.

well written and so, so true!
"Well, jihadists are typically Middle Eastern men so that adds nothing to the argument."
But Middle Eastern men are NOT all Jihadists, nor are they even majority Jihadists, so it should completely close the argument. Jihadists may mostly be Middle Eastern, but there are millions more who are not Middle Eastern who are not, and they also wear the same clothes. As far as art students wearing them to protest the US military, that's complete bunk. The scarf is equally popular among Democrats and Republicans, those who support the war we've been in over the past thirty years and those who think we can magically bring the troops home immediately after thirty straight years there of fighting. It's also popular among housewives and old people. A scarf being a symbol of terrorism, what a total joke! A scarf does not suggest terrorism unless THAT is the intent of the wearer. Clothing is meaningless, only the intent of the user has any significance, making the scarf in this case nothing more than a scarf, and a sad statement of Americans who ignorantly make the most unintelligent accusations I've heard yet to date.

Ok... I'll put on a brown shirt, and a red swastika armband, and it'll be ok because "clothing is meaningless", right?
What a load of nonsense. If you wear something intended to have a meaning by the predominant group who wears it, you take on that meaning, even if you're clueless about it. The Kaffiyeh is a symbol of the goal to "drive the jews into the sea in a river of blood", the genocidal goal of the Arab terrorist groups and nations who've been warring and propagandizing for decades. It's the equivalent of slapping on a Hamas headband, or a swastika armband, or a KKK hood.
The fact that clueless artsy-fartsy college students put them on in "solidarity" with a genocidal group they know nothing about (except that they share a hatred of Jews with) proves little other than their own racist ignorance.
Sorry I accidentally posted twice...
This is just another example of how the terrorists have won. The political pundits who push this hate crap to the giant corporations who allow themselves to be bullied over something so obviously idiotic isdisgusting. "The terrorists" are giggling in their caves at how fear has overtaken us. Isn't that how they are going to win? I grew up with Dunkin Donuts and I love Rachal Ray but after this I will no longer be purchasing anything with the Dunkin Donuts logo. Any compnay so weak minded as to cave to such idiots who only want to keep their own reason for existence alive by using fear tactics is not worth spending my hard earned dollar on.
If it acts, smells, and looks like a terrorist....it most likely IS a terrorist!! The author of this Newsweek piece is also a terrorist!! And Dunkin' Donuts' coffee is GREAT!!!!
Stephen of reason, I thought the exact same thing about examples of other "non-terrorists" that wear this thing. I thought it kinda dumb to point to how non-controversial something is by saying Kanye does it. LOL! Yes, because nothing he does is for arguments sake or to start something! Same with the arty types. I studied art history but there were always a few with grand ideas of uprisals, evil empire and such. While overall, I do agree that this was a whole lot of hooey about nothing. It's a scarf people, seriously. Just dumb to think Rachel Ray is promoting jihad. C'mon now. Dumb. But the argument stated above is just about as stupid.
The coverage on this non-issue makes me sick. Sometimes a scarf is just a scarf! Over anaylizing every minute detail and absurd political correctness are killing this country. Not only are mountains being made out of non-existent molehills, but the principle of respecting differing opinions and developing a "thick skin" to handle some of the harshness life can throw your way are no longer being upheld as adults and certainly not taught to our children. Please, I am begging everyone...use common sense and do not feel the need to berate every little thing. Sometimes, it is only what it appears on face value.
Everyone seems to have missed the main irony of the photo. The background is the Oregon State Capital building in Salem, Oregon. Everyone here knows that Dunkin Donut has been run out of town because of their poor quality coffee!
Sorry, no. The Kaffiyeh is the equivalent of strapping on a swastika armband. It's a symbol of the glorification of religious violence and genocide. And I find it interesting that Newsweek fails to responsibly reveal that the author of this piece is a standing member of a terrorist front group called CAIR.
And as well, she mentions the Socialist Front Group ANSWER's call for a "boycott" of Dunkin over the ad campaign - but fails to mention that their "boycott" is not for pulling the ad, but for "failing to use the kaffiyeh in proper context" (e.g. as a mere fashion statement, rather than the support for terrorism that these genocidal nutbags want it to be).
The American propensity for political correctness can make mistakes - this is one of them.
But, who can blame us - 3,000 + merciless deaths on 9/11 have begun a remarkable acceptance
that there are a group of people out there , The Radical Jihadists, who have no qualms about
slaughtering the innocent just because they don't agree with their beliefs - all in the name of
God??????? Yes, we are coming to the point where we realize that moral consciousness is
not a given to all peoples, some are viscious murderers - and that is what they want to be.
This isn't our American propensity for political correctness - this is our American propensity for stupidity, plain and simple. And the most stupid and simple minded have been the bigoted conservative bloggers.
Yes, there are radical extremists who don't like us. But this kind of nonsense just feeds the paranoia and hysteria, and makes us look ridiculous.
This is a scarf, for pity's sake, and these are donuts and coffee. Get a life.
Dunkin Donuts could have used the issue to make precisely those points - instead they caved in to fear and bigotry - no moral consciousness here, just moral cowardness, and plenty of it all around.
Hmmm....maybe they didn't cave in to fear and bigotry. Maybe they caved in to whichever group patronizes their establishments more. I don't know. Do Righties mostly go to Dunkin Donuts while Lefties mostly go to Starbuck's or something?
It's certainly nice to see a company take the views of some of its conservative customers into account for a change. Most companies cave in to the left wing politically-correct wacko left wing.
Yes, the views of right-wing wackos are so much more refreshing. Give me a break. D.D. pulled the ad because they feared losing customers. It's your money they're pandering to, not your political views. It has notjing to do with respecting your views. But cave in they did.

I feel like such an idiot. I saw the ad and just thought I was looking at a scarf! I'm disgusted with those moronic commentators trying to get their 15 minutes of fame but I'm even more disgusted with Dunkin Donuts for caving. What has this country come to? Whatever happened to standing up for a principle?
Amazing, you chose to bash DnD because of their coffee and donuts? I agree they shouldn't have pulled the ad, but look at our country. Someone is always complaining something is offensive. And as a paranoid country we cave.
We best be careful, next thing you know, the diaper on a baby's butt will be considered "terrorist" garb.
Although i agree with what you are saying you could've have wrote a much stronger story. You could've mention how this era of wanting to be the first to point out anything against a big corporation is going to be the downfall of the American people. You could've pointed out how Americans our using a great tragedy to manifest hate in a time we need more love for one another. You could've even pointed out how the people that pointed out that scarf our the same people who are the real terrorist in America because of there bigot views. This could've been a strong, thought provoking story and you blew it and the sad part is by your name you sound to be of Muslim descent. I should write a story about how Newsweek picked a Muslim writer to write about a story of bigotry toward Muslims just because she was Muslim and not because she had a story that would show the reality of the people reading it.
