what we need to do about all that styrofoam is chop it up and use it as insulation for homes. Thereby cutting in half the useage of natural gas, propane, wood, and coal used to heat our homes, leaving a smaller footprint on the earth. Maybe we could even get some of the extreme enviromentalists to search landfills and get the styrofoam out to do this, thus killing two birds with one stone....

Dunkin Donuts should not be under fire for panicking in the eyes of the masses...I mean granted they might not have responded in the best way but they did what they thought they should to keep their business in a good light, and it totally backfired...one thing that SHOULD be scrutinized is the fact that while America and the rest of the world are making changes to be more environmentally friendly, Dunkin Donuts...the company that hails itself as selling millions of cups of coffee a day...is still using Styrofoam cups for it's products. How is it that such a large company is still allowed to sell their products in a container that takes up landfill space and never biodegrades?

Then where do you live if not in USA? If you hate us so much maybe you should boycott us and the freedoms our soldiers afforded you.

  • Posted By: rapiiid @ 06/02/2008 11:05:22 AM

wow. a lot of biggots on this comment board this morning.

first off, the ghutra, another name for the scarf, is a symbol for palestinians. it stands for freedom from the tyranny of the occupiers. as the good ol' american slogan goes, "freedom isn't free." well the palestinians know this and the rest of the middle east recognize this because why? because israel, the occupying state, is assisted by the west and has encamped an entire people! the ghutra is a symbol of freedom. the fact that a famous person got caught up in the fashion trend of western culture wearing them as scarves is disappointing, which other commentators if you'd know fashion trends, then yes, it is being worn by many people and that does include our american troops in the middle east.
i would feel better if rachael ray meant to put some politcal freedom fighting in a dunkin donuts commercial. because "america runs on dunkin" which has racist commercials with their new campaign (e.g., "fratalian"). an american corporation is going to make fun of france and italy? caucasians need to understand where they came from. do you use the words garage? or hors d'oeuvres? french! how about algebra? anybody take that basic math class at some point? arabic! americans forget we are the muts of the world. it's in our culture and our language. my point is being racist does not solve anything because we are only hating ourselves and put borders and walls to force this ignorant thought.

ending thought, zionism is the problem. the ghutra should be worn proudly by those opposing the occupation. or by anyone who shows pride for political and economic freedom. the palestinians deserve lives of dignity and respect. not thirty foot walls and checkpoints. they're refugees in their own land. and the west is perpetuating this.

    • Posted By: Ru$$ian1 @ 06/02/2008 11:11:21 AM

yer dumb. the fratalian in their commercial is making fun of like starbucks coming up with their own language for small, medium or large. not makin fun of actual french or italian people. and we are the mutts because people leave thier country to come here and become americans. not to move thier country here. you are now an amercian and while muddled in all kinds of other things it is something else entirely. if ya didn't want to be american, you should not have moved.

      • Posted By: rapiiid @ 06/02/2008 11:24:10 AM

sorry to burst your bubble, but uh.. i was born and raised in the united states. i didn't move here. i didn't choose to be here. but you know what, i choose to STAY here. you know why? because i have hope that someday our country will have the integrity to stand up for itself against the true enemies: corporations and war-mongers in power. i am proud to be an american. but the only reason i am proud is because i consider myself one of the most privileged people in the world and i use this privilege to help those who are less fortunate than myself. the great thing about our government is that it holds the power to change. the problem occurs when the people fail to fight the power and follow it because of their campaigns. i'm not sure why you go by russian and i'm not going to attack you because i have no clue who you are, and you don't know me either. so good luck with your journey and understanding the meaning of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

        • Posted By: seanw3 @ 06/02/2008 12:12:09 PM

Just to let you know, buy your statement "I didn't choose to be here but choose to live here just proves what he is saying....You were norn here and you are just here because it is your country is what you should have said. Stating it the way you stated it makes it sound like if you could leave you would.. except the other countries are worse so I guess I will just stick it out. Which make it sound worse.

I do love how you say the enmies are the war mongers in power but forget who truly started this war, and if they hadn't been doing what they did for the last 40 years and have been allowed to go unchecked for the same amount of time. This war would have never started in the first place.. Imagine if Clinton would have picked up Osama in the Sudan when they offered him to us in the late 90's what would have been....sigh...of course since a liberal to inaction it's ok.. anything a Dem doies or does not do is ok.

          • Posted By: rapiiid @ 06/02/2008 12:49:47 PM

i understand you may label me for being a so-called "dem" but i assure you i am not. i am a believe in change and my words above are more powerful than your suggestion. thanks.

the problem with your argument is that you, like many others, believe our country is divided into two categories: democrats (left) and republicans (right). however, both sides are accountable. pointing the finger at the other side of the isle is how this democracy is anything but. we, the people, follow their example, by pointing at leftists or righties. i point the finger at everyone because we're all in power here. sure, clinton dropped the ball and he bombed many civilians as well. bush started a war and won't be around to see it end. the past is the past. both sides have missed. the future is still there. there is time for change. get things back on course. look at a person's politics and their action/inaction, not their color (as in blue or red).

    thank you BowlBoundBoys07, I found myself amusing....lol

  • Posted By: beausmom @ 06/02/2008 12:21:41 PM

You are the naive one if you think the government can control the huge conglemerate that is the media. there are too many people looking for a story.

    • Posted By: LordDemonawk @ 06/02/2008 12:26:25 PM

i think naivity is much more in those that choose not to stare the truth straight in the eye when it's looking at them. The whole DD fiasco is just that... a fiasco, that many people decided to take offense to, just as you have by my opinions of the U.S. peoples public. Besides, if the government wasn controlling the media, it's not like anybody would know. You'd be quite surprised as to what is being controlled by the elected officals of your country, and well every country in the world for that matter. D your research before calling someone naive and find out for yourself.

      • Posted By: beausmom @ 06/02/2008 12:35:04 PM

Naivity is looking at something straight on and taking it for the truth as you have done with what you see as the US. Perhaps if you would do a little research of your own you might find that the US has much more to offer than your own country. Respond as you will, I have to get back to work to earn my living as the majority of my fellow countrymen do. I hope one day you can see that we are all the same. Every country has problems(even yours).

        • Posted By: LordDemonawk @ 06/02/2008 12:38:16 PM

Is that coming from someone that's looked outside the confines of their own country, or from someone that has grown up in the country and believe anything that they've been told?

          • Posted By: beausmom @ 06/02/2008 12:46:09 PM

I am often amused at the ignorance displayed by those of another country in thinking that americans are all rednecked simpletons who are incapable of understanding the world around them. It is too bad that you display that exact thinking in regards to us. Perhaps you should look outside your own narrow view and see the whole world. individuals of any country are not always what the media portrays them in thinking or action. May you grow up and see that some day.

        • Posted By: LordDemonawk @ 06/02/2008 12:40:03 PM

I have no doubt that no country is perfect, because humanity isn't perfect. But, i also see the problems with my country and don't try to ignore them.

  • Posted By: LordDemonawk @ 06/02/2008 12:09:18 PM

I'm gonna be honest from the beginning... i don't really like americans and their hypocritical ways. You people seem to be the only people on earth that thinks the universe revolves around you all the time. and getting worked up over a silly commercial is not only ignorant, but arrogant as well. "America" as you put it, isn't just the US, it also encompasses the whole of North and South america. Get over yourselves and your self-center beliefs that you own the world, and have the right to stomp on anyone or anything you see fit. Yes, i am aware of the irony and hypocracy of this message, as i am dumping on the people of the U.S., but this is very much how so called "americans are veiwed in many parts of the world, and certainly many parts of North America.
Yes, it was a tragedy that 9/11 happened, but it was actually a wake up call that the U.S. is not in control and never truly will be in control. You are only about 350 million of a much larger popluation of the earth, and we are only here tempoarily, and were only granted this world temporarily.
So, get over yourselves and your self-center beliefs of so-called freedom. The only freedom "America" has, is the freedom to do whatever the media and government tells you to do, and believe.

    • Posted By: M1rth @ 06/02/2008 12:13:18 PM

"You people seem to be the only people on earth that thinks the universe revolves around you all the time."

Which explains how Arabs rape women and bomb everyone over a cartoon depicting their violent pedophile of a "prophet"???

      Grow up.

      • Posted By: yosouf08 @ 06/02/2008 12:45:52 PM

Yeah.. Now we know what kind of person Mirth is.. A HYPOCRITE! Mirth complains about the "kiffeyah" scarf representing "hatred towards Jews" but look at this guy now with his "Arabs rape women and bomb everyone over a cartoon" comment, He HATES Arabs and Muslims! LMAO! No matter how outrageous your comment about the scarf representing "hatred towards Jews" is, Don't be preaching antr-racism, when YOU are a racist YOURSELF..

      • Posted By: LordDemonawk @ 06/02/2008 12:42:13 PM

I'm not arba either, i believe that religion as a whole is about brainwashing people anyway, because they never get past that point and jump into spirituality.

  • Posted By: shaba @ 06/02/2008 12:43:15 PM

First of all, a keffiyeh is not only worn by Muslim Arabs. It is also worn by Christian and Jewish Arabs who live in certain Arab countries. Second, so what if Rachel was wearing a keffiyeh (which she wasn't), doesn't she have a right to freedom of expression? Thirdly, I see a lot of people on here are very full of hate, and I am assuming they call themselves Christian or Jew. That means you are no better than the people (Muslims and or Arabs) you acuse of being so hateful. I have seen a lot of fabricated lies posted here about Muslims, people need to get their facts straight before they post. It really shows your IGNORANCE!!

no offense lady pirate, but i thought it was pretty obvious tongue and cheek what momof3teens said. sometimes sarcasm translates just fine in text.

  • Posted By: mokuloa @ 06/02/2008 10:18:20 AM

Yes, this "racism" is truly horrible. Let's stop it by bombing embassies and killing innocent people over a cartoon which, btw, is free speech - the same right that gives your column scourging a donut company (i.e. the Real Enemy). I would suggest that the real enemy are people like you.

    • Posted By: M1rth @ 06/02/2008 10:19:56 AM

Well said. Time that Newsweek reveals Lorraine Ali for what she really is - A CAIR/Hamas PLANT.

      • Posted By: yosouf08 @ 06/02/2008 12:37:59 PM

OH and Mirth.. FYI I've never heard of "CAIR" or "Hamas" until you brought it up.. Yeah.. but now that you mentioned it.. I'd probably would support CAIR, and Lorraine Ali probably does. I don't see anything with being associated in that organization either--since its not harming anyone else is it? I'd say its a ABSOLUTE necessity that America needs to have on for the "Muslim" minority after post 9/11.. And as for accusing LLorraine Ali to be an anti-Israel/Jew with the "Hamas" comment--you should be ashamed of yourself.. NO WHERE in the article does it say anything about her political stance on Israel you ignorant douche bag.. Neither do all Palestinians and Muslims believe in that..

This is the best written approach to the stupid 'controversy" that I've read so far. Thank you Lorraine. I'm not even going to read the rest of the comments here because I can be almost certain that there will be plenty of fanatics who see nothing in this article aside from the fact that your last name is "Ali" and that you might have Arab heritage.

Lady pirate, that is ok, I thought I had typed the lol in there guess not.... smiles..; )

oh yeah, did i mention that rachael ray is hot?

  • Posted By: BowlBoundBoys07 @ 06/02/2008 12:34:04 PM

Rachael Ray is hot, and I would wear a kaffiyeh and drink iced coffee if she told me to. Mmmmm.......iced rachael ray.......

  • Posted By: lovet @ 06/02/2008 12:33:38 PM

This is the most absurd thing i have ever heard. Rachel Ray is wearing a scarf. Big deal. Just because a few crazy, paranoid, idiots think its a symbol of a terrorist country does not mean that we should all stop and alter out daily lives. The people at Dunkin Doughnuts are a bunch lame a**es for pulling the ad. Have a backbone and stop worrying that you'll offend a few crazy racist bastards, because i can tell you right now, any normal, sane American never even made a connection between Rachels adorable scarf and a symbol of terrorism. There is no connection to be made. Dunkin should put the ad back online. Show that your actions arent dictated by a bunch of psycho idiots.

  • Posted By: shazomar @ 06/02/2008 12:32:18 PM

As a muslim American I am deeply offended by Dunkin Donuts pulling the add , jut becasue her scarf resembled, ARAB attire.. I am not even Arab, but this is ridiculous. Wearing Arab fashion accessory is not qual to supporting terrorism and if narrow minded, red necks believe it, they need to be educated and their brains enlightened, not the other way round!!!! I wonder whats next. All people with ARab names will be judged to be terrorists? or anybody travelling to middleast will be judged to have "ties" with terrorists?

  • Posted By: momof3teens @ 06/02/2008 12:29:56 PM
