I think its about time someone OTHER THAN special interest groups speaks out. There are SO many things that we as true American citizens have had to hide, remove, cease simply because it "offended" someone. People come to the Good Ole USA for a better life, they should be thankful we allow them here NOT expect us to change our way of life, traditions, language etc for them! The things that made us who we are historically are always "up for grabs" to be changed if these folks give even a hint of being offended. Come on America, we should stand up for our history, flags, traditions etc and not let those things we hold dear to our hearts be taken away from us because an "outsider" is offended. We have to turn our heads and accept their beliefs, traditions, holidays, flags etc regardless of if we are offended or not. Some government folks are happy to spend more time & money on the illegals & immigrats than taking care of the Veterans that fought for this great country, which to me is very sad.

Well for those that perceived this ad as terrorist, racist and what not are more than likely not even US citizens, and if they are they need to find another place to live. This is America people! Are we now going to determine a person(s) by the style of clothing they wear. Isn't it bad enough that people are judged by the amount of money they make, where or how they live, what they look like, now we have to stoop to what kind of clothes they are wearing and what that represents. Give me a Break! For all those that are out there that perceive this SCARF as a terrorist symbol....GET REAL, GROW UP AND STOP BEING SO F***ING IGNORANT AND STUPID! It is a sad day in America when our MEN and WOMEN are fighting in a foreign country to defend OUR rights of freedom and dying each and every day to do it and they DON'T GIVE IN.. EVER WILL THEY EITHER.. But we give in when an ad that is depicted by narrow minded political wanna be's says it reprents something that it is NOT!!! It is not Dunkin' Donuts fault for pulling that ad... It is once again the "narrow minded political idiots" out there that have nothing better to do than turn something around and make it much worse than it actually is and put the pressure on. Hey wait a minute... Maybe we can send all those political people including Michelle Malkin the originator of the column and those that blew this out of porportion to Iraq and pressure Bin Laden to give up.. Hey it works here, why not there?

I love Dunkin' Donuts coffee and Rachel. And because of the coffee shillers decision to pull the ad, I WON'T go there again!! My daughter has a job there, and she just put her notice in, and has found a different job.
    BAD, BAD DECISON... DD.

    • Posted By: John_Smith_USA @ 06/02/2008 10:49:29 AM

Give me a break. No one cares if you ever go to DD again! Why even share that??

Now who's over reacting??? Good Lord.

  • Posted By: Confused in Chicago @ 06/02/2008 10:48:46 AM

This is absolutely crazy. What the heck is this country coming too. Land of the free. Home of the scared and confused. If you look hard enough at anything you will begin to see all sorts of crazy things. Dunkin Donuts is a wimp for pulling their ad for such a ridiculous reason. What's next?

  • Posted By: Jstme1220 @ 06/02/2008 10:43:23 AM

Oh Please , next thing you know we will be hearing Pam Gellar and all the other right wing bloggers posting comments that Rachel Ray is the Anti-Christ,in human form and ,that you will die and go to hell for being a "Fan" or for watching Rachels Talk show (hint:OPRAH, being the Anti-christ, ) To me thats a bunch of radical Christian Crap, get an education , or in that case a LIFE Pam, and quit making yourself, as well as all the other Anti- Rachel Ray bloggers, and HATE GROUPS Look Like uneducated people , Stupid people make me sick, I wish they would not practice there Right to FREEDOM OF SPEACH, They all rank up there with the Leader of this country, always opening their mouths and inserting their foot.

Why does the rest of the American public have to be shielded from a scarf because of the schizophrenic thoughts of a few?

  • Posted By: Gens328 @ 06/02/2008 10:44:03 AM

This is the kind of narrow minded thinking that gets kids beat up for wearing the wrong color shoe laces and a whole country afraid of it's shadow. Ms Gellar and the the other bloggers should be less concerned about"cultural jihad" and more concerned about stereotyping and ethnic cleansing. Rachael Ray a "tool"?! Good grief, wake up and stop the madness, and pass me a donut.

Finally! A fresh, honest, and realistic perspective on the offensive actions taken by Dunkin' Donuts. The choice to remove the ads was solely based on fear and paranoia, not on cultural awareness. Actions like this only encourage the harmful and destructive profiling of Arabs and Muslims. Thank you for this article, Lorraine Ali. Voices like yours are desperately needed in the fight racist propaganda.

Whatever!!! DnD is just a business like every other business in america, trying to make more money. I dont see how rachel wearing a cute scarf while shes talkin about an iced coffee (which by the way,i think is a very tasty beverage) is controversial. i agree that the writer is prob a krispy kreme freak but the point here is only that they were just promoting a product, nothing more nothing less. For those who were outraged by this ad, there was obviously no malintent, thats been stated repeatedly and the ad was pulled......that should be the end of it.

  • Posted By: tandemfaith @ 06/02/2008 10:40:00 AM

Lorraine Ali - I love how you take every opportunity to attack Dunkin's brand quality to assure your agenda is met. Like a terrorist, you attack your opponent and justify it because you feel you were wronged. You could have made your point by simply saying you disagree with it and state why you disagree with it, but you chose to attack their coffee, their donut and their calories content. This is why the arab world is stereotyped as terrorists. Your attacking Dunkin's brand over a scarf parallels attacking an embassy because of a cartoon. Not in significance, but in ideology. I hope the U.S. embassy in Pakistan is safe. I would hate see innocent people die over a donut.

The stylist for the commercial shoot chose the scarf, as noted in a different article (sorry, I don't have the link handy. It was MSN or some such).

    • Posted By: Melvis @ 06/02/2008 10:39:40 AM

I stand corrected, I'm still sure they would not have done it on purpose, and I hear Rachael is a BEAR about people doing things her way backstage. I have a friend in the business...

Why do we the American public have to be shielded from a scarf, because of the few narrow minded schizophrenic thoughts of a few?

  • Posted By: dloch12 @ 06/02/2008 10:37:22 AM

Geller's reactionist mob is tantamount to an old west necktie party.

hey, "bones024567": what about PC right wing crap?

  • Posted By: NeldaDee @ 06/02/2008 10:35:33 AM

Poor Rachel. I think the scarf is cute. This whole debocle is a perfect window into the hearts of extreme-right-wingers consumed with hate. As for me, tolerance helps me sleep a whole lot better at night. And that's from a selfish point of view... Open your hearts and your minds, people! There is good in all of us. (Okay, except for a few nutjobs out there...)

  • Posted By: Ru$$ian1 @ 06/02/2008 10:34:31 AM

While completely ludicrous, DnD had to pull it. Because in this country, in this time, it is the offended that get to decide what is offsenive. Unless of course you don't like someone. if iI don't like you for whatever reason, I'm not allowed. But people can hate me for not liking someone just because. People are quick to be intolerent of intolerence. You're not allowed to not like someone, no matter what. And not only that you have to leeeeeearn about them and respect their views. But not yours, no, you're intolerent. Yea. the cartoon. People flipped the hell out about that but if a different group says, that scarf looks aaaawfully familiar.....even though it is stoooopid. still. DnD is not allowed to "offend" anyone.

  • Posted By: bones024567 @ 06/02/2008 10:33:37 AM

    Lorraine,

Keep your burka on. Yes, Duncan Donuts over-reacted, especially since they weren't displaying any sign of Christian symbolism and therefore were in no danger of being litigated out of existence by the ACLU, but your rant nevertheless sounds shrill, almost hysterical. The bloggers you cited may be reaching a bit in going after Duncan Donuts. I don't know Rachael Ray's political views, and she may or may not harbor sympathies for palestinian terrorists (remember Jane Fonda?), and if she does, then the kaffiyeh would likely be making a statement that Duncan Donuts would rightly find inappropriate.

The relevant substance of your article comprised about three or four sentences at the beginning. After that, you lapsed into the usual liberal boilerplate dogma about how the fascist racist conservative bloggers hate Arabs and muslims etc, etc, etc. Lorraine, try to get beyond your shallow, socialist-brainwashed, what-have-we-done-to-make-them-hate-us-so-much cultural relativism for a moment and consider this: Islam is at war with the west. Main-line muslim clerics in most countries of the world publicly declare it. The Koran declares it. 1300+ years of muslim & Arab history declare it. Think, nowhere in the world today, nor for hundreds of years past, have Christians killed anyone in the name of their religion. No other world religion today preaches or practices murder, terror, or subjugation of "unbelievers", other than Islam. Oh, you say the "religion of peace" has been hijacked by a few radicals? WRONG. The Koran, Hadith, and over 1300 years of historical precedent prove your point of view wrong. When you have studied Islam and read the "sacred" writings as I have, then you will be qualified to say something on the subject. Until then, your writings on the subject are nothing more than regurgitation of PC liberal crap, deaf, blind and dangerously naive to the reality of the world we live in.

I agree with the statement. Our politicaly correct has gone out of wack. The majority has less say then the few, As for myself, Dunkin Donuts has lost me as a customer. Next someone will be infringing on my rights, my religon, my freedoms, my choices, my family values, and MY COUNTRY. Where will this end
and who has the balls to stand up for OUR rights?
