    The real problem is the race of the immigrants. Europe does not want to be multiracial. It wants to preserve what it has left.

    I sick and tired of this notion that Europe has to swallow millions on non-white immigrants. No we do not and a back lash is coming.

    This is the correct way to handle immigrants. If only such could be implemented in the US! America waited to long to solve her illegal and now they number too many voters for any politician to solve. A lot of them could be terrorists!

    Don't let Europe make America's mistake! Kick them out while you still can!

      If there were never any immigrants in America it would only be populated by the animals. Almost every location on earth is comprised of immigrants. There is no pure culture or people. If you look back far enough in your geneology you will find that you are related to most ethnicities somewhere down the line so the people you are discriminating against you may be related to. One thousand years ago there was no "America", or "Italy" or any of the countries as we know them as today, and they will probaby be gone again in another one thousand years.
      Immigration will always happen and we can accept it and recognize that we have all been immigrants somewhere down the line and that is what gives humans our rich cultural diversity, and allows our gene pool to thrive and continue (no genetic diversity causes severe problems -for those of you who didn't take highschool biology), or waste time and energy by fighting against the inevitable.

    Even if anti-immigrant policies are not institutionalized or recommended to law enforcement agents here in Italy, they appear to be condoned. Two instances this week lead me to conclude this.

    Stopped in a "routine" check by carabinieri I commented "Perchè sempre io?" (Why always me?). Response: "Devi comprare una macchina nuova. Questa è una macchina marrochina." (You should buy a new car. This is a car for Moroccans.) Granted my car is a vintage 1992 Mercedes (in good shape), but this comment surely indicates prejudice.

    Later in the day, in the train, returning home from work, two other carabinieri entered the coach on the request of the conductor, who had cited two black passengers for not having tickets, and started by saying "Non forniamo questo servizio gratis per voi." (We don't offer this service free for you.) The two blacks said they had been robbed of their wallets and bags, and had no money to buy tickets. Perhaps true, perhaps false, but the comment of the carabiniere would never have been made to an Italian looking individual.

    Being an immigrant isn't easy, and the treatment received from authorities makes it even harder.

    Whoa - glad I live in a country where we always treat immigrants humanely. Oh - except for thinking we should keep them out by building a 700-mile wall on the Texas border. Except for increasing raids on meatpacking plants and other unpleasant places of employment that tend to attract illegals - dumping those aliens in jail until deportation, even if they have US-born children. Hazleton, PA? No xenophobia there...

    Where did you parents came from??????
    Any American came from Europe. The ones that were here were indians who are now relegated.
    What a sad example Italy is making, going back to Worl War II, Hitler killing Jewish and foreigners.
    Remember USA went to war to save Europe from Hitler.
    We are all equals, not matter what color or race you are.
    What is the European Union for then.
    The Euro is higher then the dollar at the moment, everybody needs to work together to save
    the world and keep everybody together.

    This is a love-hate tussle.

    Western Europe needs immigrants to help sustain its economy, yet at the same time it loathes immigrants for tarnishing its supremacy.

    The nations concerned should think more on how to encourage their own youth to pull out from the lackadaisical attitude towards work and pick up any job on offer (irrespective of the nature). Meantime, couples are to be enticed to have one or two more children. Otherwise, they would have to come to terms with the immigrants, legalizing the latter???s status as soon as requirements are met (for instance, language efficiency and social-interacting capability).

    It is high time Western Europe learns to change its mindset for its own good.
