God forbid health care, less poverty, a clean environment, and gay rights. These right wing nut jobs have no idea how ridiculous they sound. Why are they allowed on the planet? These are the people that are doing harm to the country. If there weren't morons like this, maybe the world would be in more stable condition.

If everyone was liberal, there wouldn't be anyone working and paying taxes so the bloated, mosterous government can provide free rides for everyone....

And if everyone were a right winger the witch trials would be back in style and we'd toast marshmallows until dawn. Let me say this: I do not consider the extremists who call themselves conservative to be conservative. By definition conservative does not mean extreme. A conservative seeks to maintain balance and CONSERVE. He is not someone who seeks stagnation. By your definition and by your actions and attitudes, you are far from conservative. If you're a conservative then what was Hitler? A

So are you advocating a final solution for all those who hold viewpoints different from your own?

How can you be so sure you are right? you are probably one that thinks government has all the answers. the people make america great not big government. when you are dead and gone right will still be right.you sound like the ones that go into churches and start shooting.

      • Posted By: bobo3682 @ 06/01/2008 7:59:28 PM

wow are you serious YBNSIN, he said nothing about the size of the government or it's competency and you accuse him of being some nutjob that shoots up churches. Thank you for proving my point about how looney and ignorant some of you can be.

Give it time; the race-mongers will be here next saying that Wal-Mart is a racist store created by whites to exploit the people-of-color. I mean acording to American hip-hop culture/propaganda, everything "evil" in this world is because of whites and Europeans isn't it?

Who are you people? Do you ever listen to yourselves?

As a white person myself, I'm always amazed at the number of members of my race who are so freakin' concerned about how tough it is for us whites. Usually because "everyone is keeping us down." This is the victim mentality at it's most ugly. If you don't have a good job, maybe it's NOT because of affirmative action. Maybe it's because you barely got out of high school and that 18 on your ACT didn't get you into college. Grow up. Wake up. Quit your bitchin'.

Oh COME ON Conservatives! You do realize that Wal-Mart mistreats its employees by doing everything they can to force them to work for low wages? Now, before you go arguing that they could go get another job, you have to realize that most people who work there HAVE tried to go get other jobs, to no avail. They have a job that keeps them off the welfare that you so hate. They also run sweatshops, where children work for pennies a day. And as for the part about Walma

    • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 1:53:44 AM

Have they also tried learning new skills or obtaining education in a program that will help them get a higher paying job? My experience has been that many (not all and this is based on MY OWN experience) of the service workers at Walmart lack any marketable skills or education beyond high school.

      • Posted By: lademonessa @ 06/02/2008 6:34:14 AM

People work at Wal-Mart because Wal-Mart is a town killer and destroys all other retail businesses it competes against then jacks up the prices after they shut everyone else down. Three grocery stores and a ton of mom and pop businesses went under the first year Wal-Mart came in and the prices there have gone through the roof. People work there because Wal-Mart took their other jobs away.

they need to quit saling jesus shirts, they are getting too much into religion, they are not a church

yeah to hell with being fair to the unfortunate, trying to protect the environment, and supporting our employees. screw that crap and maximize profits.... how do extreme consevatives convince themselves they aren't evil

    • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 2:14:46 AM

Probably using the same logic that extreme liberals use. They just reach different conclusions.

  • Posted By: bobo3682 @ 06/01/2008 7:17:26 PM

Why do right wing conservatives always try to make it seem like the media is against them? All i hear is whining about how the majority of the media is against them rather than trying to explain why that is. It's because the severe lack of moral obligation or responsibility. Okay the story makes conservatives look bad, because it blatantly shows how greed driven a small group of right wing conservatives can be. Next time you whine about liberal media portraying conservatives as immoral read the article and think to yourself, maybe because you are?

    • Posted By: YBNSIN @ 06/01/2008 7:58:22 PM

you know we live in america. it is a shame we have forgot what made this country great. the media should report the news not there bias.also liberals are the ones that cry tollorance but attack when you dont agree with them.

      • Posted By: bobo3682 @ 06/01/2008 8:07:03 PM

Wait, what made this country great? As if conservatives don't attack if you disagree with them, at least the liberals give tolerance and equality a thought.

        • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 06/01/2008 8:59:57 PM

A liberal wouldn't know tolerance if it slapped him (or her, regardless of race, religion, creed, height, weight, or eye color -- there, I think I have all the bases covered) in the face. Liberals scream their agenda at the top of their lungs, assuming tha they know what's best for all, and anone who disagrees is "intolerant".

          • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 06/01/2008 10:42:02 PM

Dud your guy made an argument that Walmart is being too nice to Gays and Lesbians. As if they have so inate reason to be treated worse than everyone else. This is classic Neocon "tolerance".

            • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 2:14:01 AM

I recall some years ago, people freaking out because Disney provided benefits to domestic partners and called for a boycott. It had no effect as far as I know. Businesses need to make business decisions. If consumers don't like those decisions, they are free to take their dollars elsewhere. I say our country has bigger issues on its plate than whether Walmart is too "gay-friendly". Live and let live guys.

      • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 2:11:05 AM

Amen! (and I am not even religious). I would just add it was also the creation of wealth that made our country great. All media outlets are biased (Fox, CNN, NPR, MSNBC, NYT). Saying they are biased is as redundant as alleging that politicians will say anything to get elected. I mean, Duh.

I work for Wal-Mart to pay my bills and support my family, which includes my Disabled Persian Gulf Veteran husband. For the comment that people make minimun wage, it all depends where you work, what state and such. I have insurance through Wal-Mart which takes quite a bit from my check, but you HAVE to have insurance! Wal-Mart has changed quite a bit over the years which is sad. They have cut many hours, and they have started a "Computer Generated" Schedule. Which leaves people with children in daycare, and people who are going to school and people like myself with a disabled person to take care of in a bad fear of how many hours will I loose, and will I be able to pay my bills, or will I loose my job. These fears were seriously magnified when the stores District Human Resources person said to a fellow associate who brought comcerns of these computer generated schedules to thier attention said: "Sam Is Dead, the kids run the company now, if you don't like your job, go somewhere else." What kind of company cuts hours and yet STILL wants the few associates who are working to help the customers when they are spread few and far between? Family friendly has gone and been replaced by money greedy people who are incharge of the company now. The Wal-Mart corperation used to care about the associates, and thier families. I used to be proud to work there, now I fear of loosing my hours and not being able to put food on the table, and pay the bills. People need to be aware of what is going on, and there needs to be change. I for one love helping people and working doing what I do. The customer USED to be # 1, now it is just the shareholders, the owners of the company, we are just grains of sand, easily discarded. Can America STAND UP to this? Can they make Wal-Mart change how they are running the stores? Making money means spending it, NOT cutting peoples hours so there is no one in the stores to help the customer. America made Wal-Mart change the way they offer medical insurance..........can you all help them change the way they treat associates. After all we are the people who put the items out there for the customers, and are the ones who come and help you all who shop there find what you need daily. Some of my fellow associates have written letter to the Home Office, but have NOT heard back from them. Others have said they are thinking seriously about going to the media, but they are afraid to loose thier job, because that is exactly what would happen. What can you do, any suggestions. Obiously gettin another job is the easy answer, BUT there has to be a way to make them change, the company, the way they treat associates. None of us can afford to go job hunting. Can't miss work or get sick. The old Wal-Mart used to care, they used to be a family of associates. What happened????

This kind of BS is what has gotten us into the mess we are in now. Can people do what is 'right' and STOP letting people, like this clown, dictate what needs to be done, for the good of everyone?

    • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 2:07:03 AM

Who decides what is right? Who is to stop letting people do anything? Is that not dictating what needs to be done by stopping people from doing something in the name of some vague notion of "right"?

  • Posted By: rafrank01 @ 06/01/2008 8:33:47 PM

Why doesn???t Peter Flaherty just go back to Nordstrom???s, like he even shops at Wal-Mart. It's the liberals shopping there because you conservatives shipped their jobs over sea's and now that's all they can afford. It's so easy for someone with a high paying job with all the benefits to take a way from the poor. Now take you serfdom and go push your trickle down somewhere else. Now you want to dictate what and were they buy too.

    • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 1:57:53 AM

Actually it was consumer demand for low prices that led to jobs leaving the US. As the saying goes (more or less) we have met the enemy and he is us.

  • Posted By: Charlie68 @ 06/01/2008 9:01:17 PM

Wal-Mart is "going green" because it is a way to increase sales. Can't you see it is a new area of sales? We are all rushing out to buy those mercury containing third world light bulbs and other products because it is politically correct and because we are being ripped off by the utility companies. We have to do something to reduce our living expenses.

    • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 1:50:55 AM

Much of the "green" products movement is a marketing ploy to make money. Hard for some to believe but you can be green without all those "green" products.

  • Posted By: desertgirl @ 06/02/2008 1:47:42 AM

The argument that Walmart destroys competition has a major flaw: Consumers can literally buy anything they need or want off the internet and typically at lower prices than at brick and mortar stores. Retailers will not stock inventory that consumers choose not to purchase. Perhaps I am the last person left on the planet that doesn't need to shop at Walmart for anything? I do shop there for a few items due to low prices.

  • Posted By: plantsman57 @ 06/02/2008 1:32:51 AM

Wal-Mart is bit by bit destroying what little is left of the free competiion era in the USA. They tell you what you are going to buy and at what price. They basically have no competition in my area of NE TN. If and item doesn't move to suit their beancounters, then it disappears quickly with no resource. They used to carry a line of incredible frozen Thai foods under the brand Thai-Thai, better than many Thai restaurants could provice. Itr didn't sell to suit them and thus it disappearsd never to be seen again. I'm so pissed over such things!

  • Posted By: plantsman57 @ 06/02/2008 1:27:33 AM

Wal-Mart has single-handledly destroyed almost all of the grocery stores in my area taking away such competition as Food Lion & Winn-Dixie. Now were are limited to whatever products they wish to sell us which greatly irritate me as so many products such as Winn-Dixie's fabulous Deep South products and Food Lion's Harris Brand She-Crab Soup. It 's getting to the point that with no real competition, they are going to sell you what they want you to buy. You never know from one week to the next what's going to be available.tell you what

I will not shop at Wall Mart

After going there for years, one of the ladies was checking me out, and the other girl
assisted me in taking my bags to my car- I was talking idly, and said Wow, you must
love this job (before I knew how they treated their employees) She said, Are you
kidding, I have been here for 5 years, and I still make Minimum wage! Well I was
shocked, and said "I heard that they pay fairly" she said- "Well if you are
a manager, they pay very well, and the managers get all of the benefits,
while we hourly people - have no benefits, they work us to death, and they stop
short of 40 hours a week (this was in California), so we get absolutely benefits,
it is the worst place I have ever worked, and if it weren't for the fact that I have
4 kids, and can walk to work, I would quit in a heart beat",
Needless to say I was mortified.
I offered her a big tip - ($10.00) , and she said," Oh thank you, but if I ever got caught
    they would fire me"!!!
Now how is that for beloved wall-mart??

I wil never go there again- I would grow my own food first (which I have started doing)
I was appalled, and I say
SHAME ON WALLMART- THE CORPORT GREEDERS! I HOPE THEY F ALL AND FALL
BIG- THEY HURT THE POOR PEOPLE, AND PUT HARD WORKING BUSINESSES OUT
OF BUSINESS- I BOYCOTTED THEM YEARS AGO, I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT
IN THAT S--T Hole again. And neither should any of you
Upset Southerner (This is NOT THE SOUTHERN WAY)

    Georgia

Walmart has decent prices but at a high cost for its workers. For Flaherty (or anyone else) to come out and complain that it cares about issues that confront everyone and that it's becoming too good a corporate citizen is absurd. Flaherty and his ilk would have the emloyees working for two bucks an hour and getting no health care, for not carrying any kind of medicines that would keep women from being barefoot and pregnant and for shooting gay people at the door. He's typical of the hard right -- a blight on the country and a menace to its people. Walmart is wising up to what is expected of it and slowly (too slowly) coming into the 21st century.

    • Posted By: Political Novice @ 06/02/2008 12:04:45 AM

i work at a Wal Mart and we sure get a lot of the high dollar cars in for the low cost oil changes and a lot of other things.

  • Posted By: surprize @ 06/01/2008 11:20:57 PM

I do shop at walmart because it is basically all my community supports. I am happy that many people have employment and pay their bills. I think that the transition from ma and pa stores to walmart was a disaster for small town america. I saw my old home towns last independent store close because two walmart super centers came to town. It just made me sick because those people were the city, walmart is profit and sending money to communist china.

Nice to know all conservatives are represented by a tiny activist group. If Wal Mart were run by real christians they'd be taking care of their employees with better wages and benefits. No one represents yuppie corporate greed better than Wal Mart.

    • Posted By: bobo3682 @ 06/01/2008 8:03:03 PM

real christians? what does any of this have to do with being christian. There are plenty of "real christians" doing the wrong thing everyday.

No one has screwed the economy up more than the 60s generation. As soon as they started taking over their parent's companies the cost of living shot up while wages stayed put. Insurance and retirement benefits get trimmed and cut...who even gets a pension anymore? Outsourcing and building factories overseas just to save a buck on labor, etc etc. Nice job. Way to rebel against your parents. You showed them!

Well, the Republican agenda is consistant if not insightful.

They don't make those mercury bulbs like they used to. I still have a pair of old GE blubs from 1990. Still running strong. Today's GE's, you'd be lucky to get 4 months out of them. Thats GE's fault. Not very green. Now LED bulbs, those are green, but expensive to produce.
