I hope the majority of these comments were posted out of passion and not out of careful thought and consideration because otherwise we have pretty far to go as a society (atleast the society of Newsweek readers).
I agree with "Wolf20" as far as the divisions in our country go (political ones mostly)- you know, if you have the chance to look through the original US Constitution you will notice that political parties aren't actually covered (yes, I know, most of the constitution is meant to be elastic as interpretation changes with time). The United States of America (the government we have now rather than the original republic which failed) was founded for unity and centralization so that cooperation would seem to be less of a utopian, idealistic, i.e. unrealistic, concept.
This comment may seem to have little to do with the article above, but I believe it should be something to keep in mind. Having control over one's passions isn't always easy, but the continual strive for self-control means more as far as a person's maturity level goes (something else to keep in mind).
