Wow! I never thought that being concerned about the environment was a liberal thing. Who is Peter Flaherty to spout his mean and bigoted ways? Once again this is just another person speaking their opinion but that doesn't make it right.

I have pledged to use a locally-owned, owner operated store or service whenever I can. To that end, I am moving away from Bentonville, Arkansas (where there is little choice other than Wal-mart). Join in the movement and save us from the junking of America! Do not shop at Wal-mart!

Well Wal-Mart decided to vidoe tape law abiding citizen, who puchased firearms from them and turn their pixs over to the authorities, when needed.
I am not a criminal and I don't like being tretaed like one. Its all about signibf the responsible retailer manifesto crated by Marist Bloomberg fo NY, Menino of Boston, and Daly of Chicago ( which happens to be the politico machine that Obama embraced.)
Let me state I am not a criminal and I will not be treated like one.
Since I heard this insanity I have decide to not shop in Wal-Mart anymore.
Sad, I used to love the place and went there twice a week.
Oh well, its easy to abondon those that made you great, but it is not easy to get them back.

mrstan ...........that is INCREDIBLE that they would boot you / re-hire you after 3 years so you could not become vested for Profit-Sharing. Good heavens, I wonder if that is happening here in Minnesota. I am appalled by that. I just scream at anyone I know who shops at Wal-Mart, even my own mother for crying out loud. Wal-Mart is disgusting. (Ok I don't scream at people but I sure get pretty darn mad about it.)

you might as well mail your money to CHINA .because they are whom you are supporting by shopping or working there.Buy union-made,union built business products and services only.Wal-mart needs to change its name to China-mart ,the place where discrimination against employees is mandatory..

Wal-mart is completely counter to all basic American values. It is a total perversion of the American Dream. You can rest assured that if we ever see any changes in their approach, it is not because there is any desire to improve social and/or economic conditions. Rather, it will be because the execs think it will have some positive effect of the Wal-mart bottom line.

Walmart, and all of it's executives live and operate by the golden rule, which is, who ever has the most gold, makes all the rules!

I used to be a Wal-Mart Employee. Have any of you other ex-employees encountered this scenerio?
I worked in Wal-Mart for 3 years. (3 years is when you become "vested" in order to be eligible for "profit sharing"). On my 3 year anniversary, I was brought into the office and told that I was being let go, but to report back in the morning to report as a new employee. When I asked why this was happening, I was told that hourly employees were not allowed to become vested, and that my time woudl have to be brought back to the starting point to keep this from happening per company policy. Of course, I said thank you and left.
I am just curious if anyone else has seen this kind of thing happen to them?

I am a US Military veteran and I live in a small town on an Island in Western Washington that is mostly active duty military and retired military. In late 2006 Wal Mart revamped there store to fit into one of the six different social economic groups. Apparently according to Wal Mart my town that is made up of ninety percent military falls under the "Well to do" social economic group. Since this revamp of there store it was become increasingly hard to find any reasonably priced items. In fact most people leave the island and drive into another town thats thirty miles away. I myself have become increasingly dissatisfied with Wal Mart since this change. Every time that I have gone to Wal Mart to purchase something that you would think they would have or that I saw earlier in the week, they don't have it in fact one would get the impression that they never restock their shelves. For instance last christmas I went to purchase the new LED Christmas lights because of them lasting longer and that they don't use much power. When I went they were completely sold out of them, now take in to mind that this is right after Thanksgiving that I went to purchase these. I asked an associate when would they be receiving another shipment. The associate informed me that because they were so popular and that they sold out of them quickly that our wal mart would no longer be carrying that item. Does this not make sense to any one else besides me? You have a store which sells goods and has a popular item but they no longer stock it because it's popular? This coming from the store that refuses to sell a Maxium magazine that I happen to like but some people feel that it's to provacative and that is their right and opinion. But there in the video department sitting on one of the end shelves right next to a bunch of holiday movies is several different copies of Hugh Hephner's PLAYBOY BUNNY videos. The only reason I found those videos was my wife and I had told out 6 year son and 5 year old daughter that they could each pick out a christmas movie. My son had accidently grabbed one of the playboy videos that was sitting next to the Rudolph the red nosed reindeer movie that he wanted. I was appalled I went to the store manager and voiced my opinion about how I can't buy a System of the Down cd at wal mart because of its lyrics or how I can't buy a Maxium or Stuff magazine there because they say that it is unmoral but I sure as hell can buy a NC-17 rated pornographic dvd there?

Simply stop shopping at Wal-Mart... seriously, there are still plenty of choices that are "cheap" on price in comparison to Wal-Mart. I'm 30 years old and I quit shopping at Wal-Mart in 1998 !!!

I have a friend that worked for Wal-mart for 9 years . worked hard for them and I always worked when they wanted me too . and I would even work 2 shilfts and At major holidays I would work open to closes almost. I was recently let go. For and intergity issuse. But the asst manager at the time said I can be rehire after 6 month. I went on unemployement and it lasted for 26 weeks, till this day I do not have a job. And the unemployement office told me that they let me go for no reason at all. The asstant at the time had something against me. And was always trying to get me fired. And the thing happen with another assocaite and I got dsraged into it. I think that I should have not have got fired and that I should be able to get my job back. Wal-mart only care about them self. they say over work and under pay that's wal-mart all the way. you would think tha after 9 years U would be at least up to 10 and hour no I was only making 8.35 hr. If Sam Walton was alive wal-mart would not be like it is. His family done got greedy. And And when wal-mart takes these department s out they will lose buisness. They don't want to train people anymore. for the special department . and they fail to relize that those department is what makes them the money. BRING THE LAYAWAY back. And Now they are only having part timers so they want have to pay denefits out to the employee. Wal-mart should be looked into. There things that goses on that dosen't get notice.

Family values(ha) I have worked for wal- mart for five years. And there are no family values. I had to leave work because the school had taken my son to the emergency room for stitches and because I left early I got an incomplete shift which counts against you with your attendance. Theres no family values they dont care all they care about is money and how they can get more. I could go on and on about incidents with myself and other associates WAL-MART does not care about their associates dont ever believe them when they say that.

I used to work for Walmart for a couple years as a department manager. I've never worked in such a horrible enviroment before. All they seemed to care about was who was in whos pants and any made up rumor about someone seemed to be the thing everyone believed and the person talked about was coached for something they couldnt prove. Walmart abuses their associates and when you work equivolent to ten or twenty people, it's still not enough. I was known as one of their best workers and I was brought down by poorly trained management and an ongoing scam. The store manager bribed a girl to try to get an assistant to have some sort of sexual encounter so he could have a reason to fire him. It ended up linking down to me because this girl was retaliating against me telling everyone I was sleeping with this assistant and made up written statments saying that she saw us together. Later management accused me of this and I was so sick and tired of all of the rumor nonsense that was to be stopped when really the store manager couldnt keep his nose out of things either. I quit that same day and went back to school to get a REAL CAREER! So did the assistant that was being accused as well. The only people left in that store are all the gossiping idiots. The store manager himself told me the turn over rate was 9 associates every couple weeks......hmmmmm, I wonder why. I sent a letter to corperate about my incident and they never even acknowledged it, not even the district management. Im discusted with Walmart and all of their actions!

you know what if people didn't have a way to gripe about Wal-Mart you begin to wonder whom they would gripe about.

My sister has been an employee for a few weeks now at an Ohio WalMart and she says that they people she works for are mean and very insensitive. She plans on quitting in a couple of weeks. No way would I ever work at a WalMart.
