You know our economy is on the rough side now. But I remember a time in the 80's everyone was griping about Wal-Mart and how they treated their employee's then. I wonder is it the same. I wonder what you will say in the year 2016. Everyone needs to help everyone else and be more appreciative of what they have and that Wal-Mart is trying to accomodate everyone. I am a Christian first and that means alot to some people. It doesn't mean our economy is going to get any better. Times are coming and everyone better be ready

My sister works at a WalMart in Ohio and she has only worked there for a few weeks and is ready to quit already because she says that the people she works for are mean and very insensitive.

Walmart has caved to political correctness. Enviromentalists are only interested in power and controlling how we think what we buy how we live. They are the cause of $4 gas and pretty soon you won't be able to go to work because gas is not available. They are the most dishonest and powerful lobby in our nations history and are costing our economy trillions of dollars.

First off, you misspelled 'surprise', secondly the people who have us paying $ 4 a gallon for gas aren't the environmentalists but the Republicans., namely the idiot you voted for. Suck it up and admit that Dubya was your fault, keep preaching against the ho-mo-sex-shuls and the tree huggers and do whatever else you people with IQ's in the single digits do and let the rest of us live in peace. Go watch the 700 Club or whatever else it is you people do.

Lademonessa: again with the vitriol. You are a typical arrogant liberal and most likely a *** that thinks blaming everyone and everything else excuses your excesses sexually and mentally. You need some anger management therapy. History will tell the story of whether Bush was a good or poor president, not someone as insignificant and hateful as you.

What a way to point the finger! And I suppose "hateful" would not accurately define your outspoken views of homosexuality?

Wal-Mart used to have my loyalty but since they started video taping and storing records of gun sales I no longer shop there. There is a constant fight to erode freedom in the US and we must do what we can. All of the freedoms in the Bill Of Right must be constantly protected from erosion. I am also very concerned with the sale of foreign goods instead of USA products. Foreign countries subsidize their exporters to the extent that our companies can not compete or our companies use foreign labor instead of the more expensive labor in the US. We are in a sad economic mess

    • Posted By: soccerpimp @ 06/09/2008 6:46:19 PM

WOW.....I did not know that they taped gun sales but, I'm glad they do. GO WAL-MART!!!!

This is how Wally world treats their hard working employees.
I have a friend that used to work at a Walmart store in Ohio. One night she was working stocking shelves with another co-worker, the other co-worker accidently dropped a ladder on her head and shoulders. As an honest hard working employee she did the correct thing and filed an accident/injury report with her supervisor that same night, and was then sent home because she was in to much pain to continue doing her normal job of stocking shelves. The next night when she went to work she was informed that she would have to submit to being tested for drugs, which she did. Her test results came back negative, The employee that accidently dropped the ladder on her was not tested for drugs. Her condition worsened, as the accident left her with a fractured vertebra in her neck. After seeing several doctors and missing a few nights of work due to the pain she was enduring she filled for workmans compensation claim. When the claim was approved she was immediately fired from her job.
Yep, Walmart deffinatly takes care of their employees.
WALMART DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ANYONE OR ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT THEIR BOTTOM LINE.
Kinda makes you wonder why their stock price hasn't really moved over the last eight years. Sure their dividends have gone up, but thats only a rouse for their little liberal shareholders to make them think that the company is actually doing better. Walmart, as a corporate entity has an ultimate goal of taking over the American economy, why else would they want to move into the banking sector, the health care industry. They even have plans on the table to oust Craigslist and move into free advertising. Do they really think that Craigslist is a threat to thier business, haha thats just to funny. Leave the little guy alone Walmart.
No, I don't own any shares of Walmart, and probably never will.
Do I think Walmart is becoming to liberal? YES I DO, but only since the demise of Mr. Walton. Someone who truely cared about honest and hard working people.
Am I a conservative republican? NO, I AM NOT.
Am I a liberal democrat? NO, I AM NOT.
I'll leave YOU to wonder where I sit on the political seat, and don't care one way or the other what YOU think about my views or opinions.

Wal-Mart sucks. We stopped there today to pick up some things and they only had four checkouts open. Do you believe that? And it's a super wal-mart. So we left our cart in the middle of the aisle and left. Wal-mart cares only about themselves. What a joke that store is.

My wife got fire, about a month ago. Reason was over her salary, that was make $12.00 hrs. Six years ago under pay all women, to avoid law suit, was to play every employee couple dollars more hrs. now six years later, case die out, now firing people left and right, so can lower price. Do anyone want work for these company? No future there. If had form a union perhaps would stop this from happen.

Wow i worked at Wal-mart for about two months and then I moved into the McDonalds as a Assistant Manager. I still did not learn as much about Wal-mart as I did reading about this discussion. I am now going to look into the everyones theory and respect everyones opinion. As far as I know I love shopping at Wal-mart but I always did tell my husband about how sad some of the employees seem to be. Now I know!!!!

First of all, why should a retailer have anything to do with politics? The board members would do well to keep their nose out of politics and continue to do good for the communities. It's right to be environmentally concious, regardless of profits. If people would be less concerned with money and start looking at the big picture, they might see the impact greed and prejudice has on society as a whole.

If Walmart again starts contributing to Gay and Lesbian causes, I will happily lead the charge to get people to stop shopping at Walmart. You liberals try to act as is Conservatives don't matter, well ask the board of director and stockholders of Ford Motor Company how bad they got hit after they decided to sponsor gay pride parades, etc. I refuse to let less than 5% of the population hold the other 95% hostage because of their perverse choices. It is a choice. I can show you studies about identical twins with identical dna and yet one chooses to be gay and the other doesn't. Blows your fake science out of the water, doesn't it. Liberals are the ones who are hypocrical because they refuse to accept or tolerate any views but their own. I do love everyone, and show them kindness and respect, but refuse to let them cram their chosen lifestyle down our throats.

    • Posted By: jpk020nwk @ 06/02/2008 12:35:12 AM

Oh my goodness another compassionate conservative. If this guy had done any research he would realize that identical twins are not 100% identical, what he considers a choice is just as much a choice for him. Contrats you have chosen to be straight and narrow minded. Hopefully we'll be able to welcome you to the 21st century soon. Gays can get MARRIED, we can INSURE our husbands/wives, and guess what we can have kids too! Isn't it amazing he can do these things with out even thinking, ( I don't imagine that he does think often but...) We have had to struggle, sue and fight to get just a taste of the rights he is automatically given just for loving someone of the opposite sex. Horray for WALMART, P&G and VOLVO for embracing the GLBT community!

      • Posted By: GustoMaybe @ 06/02/2008 1:56:05 AM

If there was a gene that caused homosexuality, homosexuals would be extinct. It's hard to pass on a gene if you don't procreate. As for marriage, a homosexual may marry anyone of the opposite sex that will agree to marry them just like heterosexuals. Where's the discrimination there? Homosexual sodomy should be prosecuted. Let the Supreme Court visit the issue again, this Court would likely overturn the Texas sodomy decision.

        • Posted By: lademonessa @ 06/02/2008 6:24:07 AM

Okay Mr. Genetics, lemme ask you this: Straight people give birth to gay children, does that mean we should make heterosexuality illegal? Listen, you're stupid but some nifty ISP showed your little monkey brain how to log on so let me say it this way: We are one race, the human race. Black, white, gay, straight, Christian, Jew--all human. Wal-Mart is a bunch of blood sucking weenies in corporate suits selling you everything from religion to patio furniture because it meets their bottom line. They doin't care if you like Jesus or worship a flying spagetti monster as long as you spend your money there. They give big meeting on how we will fire your ass and destroy your community if the word 'union' ever passes your lips. They are evil. Keep shopping there, serve the dark overlords of Wally World and enjoy your prejudices. Let's all hope you choke on them.

Why do people that identify themselves by anal penetration and oral masterbation deserve special rights?
I don't care what goes on in the bedroom but to flaunt the perversions and say these entitle them to special treatment and recognition is beyond belief. Are there any limits to depravity these days. When will beastiallity, child pornography, and children molestors be joining in the gay parades?

    • Posted By: lademonessa @ 06/02/2008 6:16:59 AM

Well Sunshine, you and your well leafed bible can rest easy. Wal-Mart only supports the bottom line and they're just as homophobic as you are. They hate women, they have a definite habit of choosing white male managers over black or minority managers, and they piss on the little guy. So shop at Wal-Mart and Jesus be praised. By the way, you're an idiot but you already know that.

"family friendly"?? Maybe once they were, but new directives have been handed down in terms of scheduling that makes it fairly impossible for college students and those with families to get any hours at all. If the shift starts at 3:00 and you can't work until 4:00 because you're waiting for the other parent to come home and watch the kids, forget it. That shift will go to someone who can cover the whole thing first. And if no one can cover the whole shift, it will be left out as an open shift. It won't even be given to the person that can work the partial. So what you're left with is begging for hours and going through the hassle of having to get them specially approved. I started working there a few years ago because the hours were perfect for my young family. Now I have to find something else. These new directives are going to cut my pay and hours by more than half. I think I'll go check out Target!

Would you consider doing a story entitled , "Is Wal-mart too conservative?" They are a department store - not a political action committee.

  • Posted By: Al from the Midwest @ 06/09/2008 6:08:46 PM

Though never a fan of Wal-Mart's strategy of moving into an area, undercutting prices of all area players, causing the competition to drop and and slowly increasing prices back, I agree with this "reporter's" view of the retail giant. I happen to be a citizen of the mentioned "Red States" and have witnessed this erosion. I used to think that Arkansas meshed well with my "politics"; but after watching Bubba and HRC's antics and now Wal-Mart's turn to the left, I'm reassessing my stand on Arkansas. Of course you'll note the HRC had to move to eastern California (NYC) to make it to the Senate; so maybe Arkansas is alright afterall.

Walmart has become far too liberal. Using their economic position to sway political views and elections that are against the good of Americans. I, my family and friends have decided to support companies that support a better America for the hardworking population and not the radical minority that will destroy our country through deception.

    • Posted By: no mugwump @ 06/09/2008 6:07:02 PM

I join with you. It may not be much but I will feel better about myself.

It's Wal-Mart's business and they can do whatever they want. I don't see anything wrong with trying to protect the environment. I am not a liberal or a conservative. I am an Independant. Wal-Mart should be able to run their company however they choose. I don't like buying things that are "Made in China" but you cannot get those things from the US because it would be more expensive to do so.

  • Posted By: tammaria @ 06/09/2008 4:59:35 PM

And may I ask......who are the pro american companies??????

    • Posted By: powadiuk @ 06/09/2008 5:40:57 PM

There are no PRO- AMERICAN companies here anymore . There are only conglomerates looking to make the playing feild level for THEIR profits. YOU CAN BE REPLACED .

      • Posted By: no mugwump @ 06/09/2008 6:05:35 PM

There are Pro-American companies. The sporting goods and firearms/related companies seem to have very patriotic boards/ceo's and agendas.

    • Posted By: Rosengj @ 06/09/2008 5:35:47 PM

They are mostly out of business now. Walmart squeezed thousand of small town businesses to bankruptcy. Those businesses kept the profits in the small towns, now Walmart sends the wealth to China.

Terms like "Pro American" are really useless, and do not really connote anything other than the labeller's biases.

  • Posted By: allicat3586 @ 06/09/2008 6:04:56 PM

Wal-Mart is definatly too concerned with not offending anyone. Try working there! I watch thousands of dollars worth of merchandise walk out the door everyday without being paid for, but I will be fired if I say anything because we don't want to offend anyone. ESPECIALLY thieves. And as far as family values goes....that went in the toilet a long time ago. What most people don't know is that they are now cutting their associates hours in a move to bring full time 40 hour a week associates, down to 20 hour a week part time associates so they don't have to pay benefits. :)

  • Posted By: ketherdragon @ 06/09/2008 6:04:41 PM

I think this article is fluff, I mean how is any company not, liberal in one area while being conservative in another? when it comes to conceptual views on the world we are all in the gray. For those of us that are religious we are saved but we still confess to being sinners, everyone is both masculine and feminine , animus to our anima, eros vs thanatos. The list is infinite , It all comes down to the fact that Wal-Mart bows to no one every move they make is a business venture inorder to improve shareholder value. Wal_mart is not a relisous be they only want to be seen as such in order to garner business

  • Posted By: joetraderny @ 06/09/2008 4:34:53 PM

It began offering more-robust health-insurance coverage to workers. Its CEO voiced support for raising the minimum wage....this is not because of liberals...it is violating employment laws, hiring illegals, most of workers were on welfare....what some neocon can try to twist into a "liberal" cause is mind-boggling...if liberals are for human rights.....and living wage, then fine I am liberal and I would imagine so are the other 90% of Americans who drive and work for a living.......

    • Posted By: BarS3sons @ 06/09/2008 6:03:51 PM

No, it's not that you are a liberal, just that you're too dumb and uneducated to see past the end of your nose and realize all the left-leaning, liberal crap that your are so willing to feed yourself with is what is destroying our economy and nation. So go up on minumum wage, see what happens to the buying power of their new dollars after prices are raised to compensate for the unrealistic wages versus services/work performance. Give a dollar's work for a dollar's pay. We used to do that. Now it's "you owe me, so give me $7.50 an hour and I might do a half-hour of work". You keep raisng wages without raising production and I'm not going to keep you on the payroll, and I won't hire a replacement. I'll invest in higher technology, robotic and computerized equipment, and give my best producing employees/associates a raise/bonus. The liberal/left Gov't. is the biggest problem with higher taxes, more regulations and out-right stupidity, not the business people, especially the small-businesses. You need to try earning your own money, quit trying to take it away from us. Just because we're successful and you can't/won't do it on your own doesn't mean you have the right to entitlements/welfare at the expense of those that work their tail-ends off to get ahead and prepare for the future. End the outrageous taxes, let the people who will work and invest make good money, then watch our economy start to take the upward climb, again.
