Blackman8387 -- Well I was raised in a very racist home and was taught that africans amongst others were not worth what I was...I am white and when I got older i thought to myself that, that way of thinking is wrong and everyone is equal and now I have a african american girlfriend and my family doesnt like me much but I was man enough to think for myself and not go off the ideaology that I was taught.

This makes me so sad for a number of reasons..
one being that i, myself, am a belly dancer/Raks Sharki. To see it slowly getting censored out of one of the few cultures that it thrives in hurts. Its a part of the culture as well.

I dont see a sense in bashing one culture or another for their traditions and/or beliefs...To each their own.
No one likes to see theirs get squandered or destroyed. Fight to keep the traditions..in all forms.
Or at least find a happy medium

curlyfries110 - That's all they teach.. They teach to kill anyone who doesn't believe what they believe.. I'm not saying that there aren't liberal Muslims around. There are.. but the ones that teach an ignorant mentality - there are millions of them. Either get rid of those people or get rid of that mentality.

I do believe the ten commandments are a good set of guidelines to live by whether you are religious or not as they just are simple rules that help make life easier....I would say the same thing whether it came from Jesus, Mohammad (pardon spelling), the Pope, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy. Those are just good rules.

I never said i lived an unhealthy lifestyle nor that i lived without religion, hmmm, touche" My dissagreement is witn organized religion

curly fries-now i'm not saying that you are wrong in saying that murderers like that are f'd up and probably deserve to die, but it's not about morals. it's about being systematically "brainwashed" if you will, or in a much more mundane term, raised from birth, to believe a certain thing and right and wrong plays no part...those are two subjective terms whether or not you would like to believe so

Islam is no more vile or evil than any other organized religion. Each one has its overzealous nutjobs, and each one attempts to encourage people who don't think like they do to conform to their standards. You see it with Christianity every day in the United States. Want evidence? Think gay marriage, think polygamy, think pornography, think abortion. Each of these things are legislated based on moral principles. Where do morals usually come from? Religion.

That isn't to say that religion is wrong, or bad. It isn't. It's only when we try to push one religion's agenda on non-believers that it becomes a problem.

    • Posted By: jimlee @ 06/03/2008 1:06:22 PM

how can you possibly link christianity with polygamy, porn and abortion? please enlighten me.

      • Posted By: mdb325 @ 06/03/2008 2:04:33 PM

Religion is the basis for law. The reason ancient people could not eat shellfish was because of the inherent danger of DEATH by spoiled clam. The old laws were there for a reason, at that time. You can say that organized religions are marred by fanatics, but the basis for all moral decisions are covered by all the religions. So for the religion haters out there, do you have no morals? Are you ready to admit that the core moral guidelines (ten commandments, golden rule) are something you share with the big, bad, evil religions?

      • Posted By: chanteb @ 06/03/2008 1:12:12 PM

Wow, I saw the link and I didn't even have to break out my bible.

      • Posted By: DevynB @ 06/03/2008 1:11:21 PM

That was kinda the point. Those things are regulated in the United States primarily due to moral issues that were derived from Christianity.

Ah yes; once again the american race mongers are out in-force bringing their assinine insecurities and pathetic racial history into the core of this article. This is about Egypt-Belly Dancing-The Middle East! This is NOT about american blacks, whites, or any other american with hang-ups about skin color whining about some injustice or playing the victim! Why done't you people with all of these racial problems do the world a favor and OFF YOURSELVES!
Now; onto the belly dancers. What a shame....nothing more beautiful and seductive as a woman performing that type of dance. There are other places besides Egypt which belly dancing can viewed and enjoyed.

solomon...you simply put words in my mouth...i never once said that you live an unhealthy life style by not having a religion. all i said is that some people are heading down the wrong path, find religion, and change their life styles to better themselves after modeling their behavior in accordance with their religion...that's all i was saying...please don't assume things but thanks for giving me a chance to clear that up

  • Posted By: curlyfries110 @ 06/03/2008 1:59:05 PM

mfrizvi-- No it does not make sense to kill them. I do not agree with that at all....I feel people should be able to practice their faith however they see fit. I dont agree with Christians or Muslims or Jews but that doesnt mean I am going to kill them.....
For the saudi wahabis or whatever....teaching people to kill other people is crazy and if those people doing the killing dont have the morals or are to simple-minded to know whats right and wrong in there own mind then I hope a cruise missle mistakenly falls on there home because those are the kinds of poeple that give the rest of them a bad name. Here in the states I have a friend that is native to Pakistan and he is one of my closest friends and he never talks to me about Islam and I never speak to him about my religious beliefs and we get along great....and never once has he threatened to kill me for being an infidel....

I am glad Egypt ischanging. I wish America would too. There is no morals in America anymore, There is no family. There is no responsibility for ons actions. Everything goes here. It is all about money. A society like this will not last long. In the past all big societies like this has crashed. Egypt was tainted with western culture. I am glad somebody is standing up for them.

    • Posted By: bluesouth73 @ 06/03/2008 1:59:00 PM

first of all no morals in america at what time did we have them when we came of the pond and killed the native americans and stole there country or how about the days of the slave trades when we traded humans like cattle .and as far as big societies crashing your right ummm yea egypt was a big society wasn't it so good luck in that arm pit dust bowl of a country you love

    • Posted By: krounded @ 06/03/2008 1:55:57 PM

You talk about America and Egypt like they are monolithic and every individual thinks the same way. What is wrong with differences in opinions on these subjects? Live the way you want to and stay out of everyone else's life. "It's all about money" you say? The article states RICH Saudi people are propelling this new morality. So how does your statement square with that? How would you like them to do that here? How would you like to have to live by Muslim law to fill up your gas tank? No morals, no family in America? Look around you!. If there really were NO morals, America would be more like a war zone with 1/2 the people you already being killed. .

    • Posted By: bluesouth73 @ 06/03/2008 1:52:01 PM

First off america has never had morals from the day we came and killed the owners of this country oh let me guess during the slave trade days is that the times we had morals or every time we bomb some third world country is that the time everything is about money ummmm rich arabs sucking money out of everyones pockets while there own people starve on the streets is that the people that are restoring order to egypt good luck

To hell with the Saudis!!!! As a member of the US armed forces, I spent almost a year of my life in that GOD forsaken country. If I had my way, the US would cut all ties with these arrogant bastards. During my time there, the religious police would drag women by the hair out of compounds because the police said they were doing things that were not in accordance with the Koran. I don't belittle anyone's religion, but I don't believe that if you are in a country to try to defend it from its enemies that their "state" sponsored religion should be forced upon you. While I was in Saudi Arabia defending it from its neighbor Iraq during the Gulf War, there were articles in the Saudi newspaper by young Saudis who should have been defending their own country that said, "War is too animalistic and we don't have to fight wars because we have enough money to pay Americans to do that for us." The nerve of those feminine acting bastards. We weren't allowed to celebrate Christmas because it might offend them. Now they have the nerve to be in Egypt spreading their form of Islam. Egypt should kick everyone of them out of their country and send their asses packing. I had the opportunity to visit Egypt and the Saudis would be in the casinos betting more money than most of us will see in a lifetime. Further, when I left that God forsaken place, as soon as the plane left Saudi Arabian airspace, the Saudi women would go to the restroom on the plane and change clothes into jeans, dresses, etc. This shows how much they hate the state sponsored religious practices. Egypt is a beautiful country with such a rich history. They should maintain their sovereignty and kick every Saudi out of their country now.

You want to stop the ignorance in Islam or any religion for that matter, then you have to get rid of this saudi mentality.. Please read about Mukhtaran Mai in pakistan. She was gang raped by a bunch of bast**** and then the Pakistani village that she lived in wanted to kill her because she was gang raped. She did not willingly have sex!!!

  • Posted By: 1Solomon @ 06/03/2008 1:55:44 PM

Nothing like using religion to justify your beliefs or better to hide behind your insecurities

  • Posted By: onepoker @ 06/03/2008 1:54:43 PM

Hey folks these Saudis are paying for what they believe in they aren't forcing this on anyone. The artists are the sell outs here. The reality is the internet availabitity of entertainment that far surpasses anything a belly dancer is going to provide is probably more a factor in the decline of the industry than the saudis buying them up and closing them down. Here in the infidel filled us our strip clubs are suffering a decline in patronage also. The Saudi money is hastening the departure in Egypt but it isn't the only reason for the decline.

  • Posted By: Blackman8387 @ 06/03/2008 1:53:31 PM

why do you call the pope a radical? i don't think you can compare him in the ways that we are discussing when you talk abt the WTC and the pentagon. Osama Bin Laden is hated by most of the people who share his religion but i agree that if you wanna believe in a religion you are free to do so SO LONG as it does not directly lead to the harming of another person

  • Posted By: mfrizvi @ 06/03/2008 1:51:58 PM

curlyfries110 it's fine if a person believes and practices his own religion.. But in Pakistan, there are a group of people who are called Shia Muslims. The saudi wahabis have taught that if you kill a shia, you go straight to heaven.. WHY: Because Shias are not willing to follow the 1st Successors of Prophet Muhammad.

Does it make sense to kill them?

  • Posted By: 1Solomon @ 06/03/2008 1:51:29 PM

You call me unqualified, and state that many have been saved from unhealthy lifestyles. hmmm sounds an aweful lot like passing judgement and saying that those that do not follow a quote "healthy lifestyle" are wrong

  • Posted By: 4bubbaswitz @ 06/03/2008 1:46:03 PM

The world has complained for decades about Americans using our $$ to press our culture on others, now the Saudis are doing it? So what? If the Egyptians don't like it, they don't have to watch/drink/buy the other country's goods no matter if it's Saudi or stamped made in the USA. Global demand =Global market no matter who is selling.

  • Posted By: curlyfries110 @ 06/03/2008 1:45:53 PM

They didnt leave us alone when they willingly flew planes into WTC and the Pentagon. Kill innocent civlians....that seems vary family oriented to me....While I agree every religion has there "radicals", look at eh pope for instance. And yes if someone breaks into my house I will kill them if they mean harm to me and my family, but if its a starving person looking for food who means no harm then I will be happy to give them a sandwich and shower. As far as the US being in Iraq, I only agree to the point that Saddam had to go...the rest i have my own opinions of....I am not a religious person but I do believe that everyone has the right to believe in what they want to believe and I wont judge them for their beliefs
