Health Care Made Simple

If there is to be a National Health Board, why do we need vouchers or insurance companies? More than eliminating medicaid, medicare, and employer health insurance, we need to eliminate health insurance companies, which are really sick insurance companies - we only need them when we get sick, they have no relationship whatsoever to health.

Emanuel doesn't get it any more than Obama, Clinton or McCain do. We need a system that guarantees everyone basic preventative health care, not a system that is focused on diagnostic tests, medical devices, surgery and drugs. We need a system that does not focus on curing diseases, we need a system focused on preventing disease.

Under fee-for-service, we proved that doctors are lousy businessmen.
Under managed care, we proved that businessmen are lousy doctors.

Neither doctors nor businessmen should be in charge of our cuntry's health care system.

The health care providers that focus on treating people - not diseases - are nurses.

Until nurses are invited to the table to give their valuable input, not much will change.

I liked this article. What I've come to hate about all the different programs is they each fall under different laws. In my state no insurance makes children eligible for 6.00 shots, but insurance with a high deductible that applies to shots will make you ineligible. My husband died of cancer shortly after starting a new job, because his employer has less than 20 employees we couldnt COBRA our insurance so we bought private insurance but 1 daughter was turned down for that so shes now in the high risk pool in our state. But that doesn't cover some phychological issues that got worse after her father's death. Those bills might just make us eligible for Medicaid, but medicaid patients are not eligible for the high risk pool. There are state laws that apply for switching from one group insurance to another but those laws dont apply to private insurance. We have never been without insurance, but I dont feel very protected.

A simpler solution-
House and Senate both vote to require same level of health care for all US citizens as they get.
