    • Posted By: mba84010 @ 05/31/2008 11:46:08 PM

I am a "hard working" white male over 60. I live in Davis County, Utah, which is the most conservative county in the most conservative State in the Country. I consider myself a conservative Republican, and would have voted for Barry Goldwater had I been old enough. I have voted a straight Republican ticket every election. And, while I consider myself to be a fiscal conservative, I also recognize that, in some ways, I am a social liberal. With Sen Obama as the Democratic nominee, and assuming he does not sell his soul to the devil (HRC), I will vote a straight Democrat ticket this fall.

I have always voted from my head, not my heart. What my head recognizes is that after voting twice for George Bush, I have voted for the most inept presidency in my lifetime, if not in history. I owe my heart one chance before I die. With the above caveat of his choosing, or being forced to place Billary (sic since you get them both) on his ticket, this will be the year.

So, symbolically at least, since I realize the reality of Utah???s electoral vote, I will proudly cast my vote for Sen Obama. I will cancel out one bigot???s vote with all the heart that is in me. It is a great year to do it. First, from the heart, I really do buy into his message that we need change. Washington is broken and certainly my political party deserves to be punished for how badly we have done in the last eight years. And, Sen McCain being our candidate demonstrates how lacking our party is in leadership. In a time when we need Chase, Seward, Bates, and that tall gentleman from Illinois that lacked experience, Abraham Lincoln, we were presented with McCain, Romney, and Huckabee; or, as they are sometimes known, Larry, Moe, and Curly.

I believe the four candidates from 1860 would vote the same as me this year. I hope many Republicans, who understand the proud history of our party, will do the same. Abraham Lincoln fought the civil war. Now is the time to end it.

      • Posted By: ginamlaster @ 06/01/2008 1:05:45 AM

Thank you so much and GOD BLESS YOU. I've been saying it all along. Where ordinary people are concerned, republicans love their country too and are mortified at what has been done to this country in their name. I am so grateful and so proud. You make me have hope that at long last we will stop being conservatives and liberals and start being Americans again. Please God let it be so! Thank you sir, for being American first, before party or candidate. I agree with Obama. People like you are our real hope.

"WE" know Hillary Clinton LOVES the U.S.A. She would show NO WEAKNESS in times of trouble. Do you actually think 9/11 was a ONE TIME event. Don't be a fool.

Hussein Obama is a crook and a fraud. He is a danger to the entire Western culture. If you think communism is good, then move to Cuba. They can finally have cell phones. Maybe China....good economy....

He is closer to Hugo "El Oinko" Chavez in principles than any U.S. politician. He will never be elected POTUS.

I am a big fan of Sen. Clinton. Most people I know are. Sean Hannity, Rushbo, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, and even Bill O'Reilly, have come to highly respect her. "WE" are all Repubs. voting McCain. We would have all considered Hillary. Hussein??? NEVER!!!

Ted Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, Farakan, Ahmadinajad, Nasralaa, Dean have their candidate.

The DNC and MSNBC and NBC now have their candidedate. The party and the lap dog media decided who would be the candidate and who we could vote for. If we do not vote like you tell us you will not count our votes. Olberman, Russett, Matthews have spoken. Sounds like communism to me. So much for media objectivity. The PARTY has spoken!!!! The MEDIA tells us the party line. Everybody bend over. We just got F _ _ ed!!!!

Don't warry, in the General elections we will even the score, if HRC runs as independent we will vote for her, and if she does not run we will vote for the superior candidate McCain!!!

  • Posted By: rainbow68 @ 06/01/2008 6:47:07 PM

I have a family member in the service who has been in an unsafe area recently. I am very patriotic, but I have to say this is really scary! To think of the war lasting "another hundred years" is unthinkable.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 06/01/2008 7:23:20 PM

My son-in-law is in the green zone in Baghdad. Yes it is really scary but most of the troops believe in what they are doing over there. Sad thing is while everyone at home is here deciding what we should do, how fast to end the Iraq war, no one is talking to them about what they want to have happen and when. Worse yet I don't think anyone makes an effort to get them absentee ballots so they can vote for their choice in the election. I hope it is different for November and they get ballots. My daughter says her husband thinks most of the troops prefer Obama over Hillary. The feeling is things are too unstable in the Middle East. Middle Eastern countries don't view women as we do, don't recognize them as equals to men, so there is doubt as to whether Hillary would be able (being a woman) to negotiate with these countries. They do not feel the same about women as we do. I have seen nothing in the dialogue her to this effect. But, bottom line is the troops who have been fighting this war are too busy or unable to have much say in what happens

    • Posted By: ChrisLPNM @ 06/01/2008 6:55:27 PM

I don't think that is what McCain really meant - the statement was taken out of context. What he was saying is we cannot leave Iraq prematurely, resulting in a power vacuum that Iran slips into. While I am a democrat, I agree with him on that point. The Iraq War was stupid, all the justification for it was baseless, and it took our attention off the real threat in Afganistan and the border with Pakistan. But we are were we are and I think we have to see things through. If we leave to early, Iraq will turn into another Lebanon, with Iran pulling the strings - but it will be worse because we won't have the Israelies to help keep them in check. Then we really will have something to worry about.

  • Posted By: ChrisLPNM @ 06/01/2008 7:14:48 PM

HUACHUCA - I would like to think it is not a fantasy. I will give you the same advice that give my nephews when the umpire makes a bad call at one of their games. First, it is what it is, there is nothing you can do about it. Second, unless you would have won if the umpire hadn't made the bad call (which is never the case), then at the end of the day it really doesn't matter.

Obama was entiled to some votes from Michigan - the vast majority of all those "uncommitted" votes were for Obama or Edwards, the latter having endorsed Obama. To say that Clinton should receive all her votes and Obama should receiving nothing is not an accurate reflection of the will of the people. Such an argument is contrary to the very argument Clinton is making as to why the votes should be counted.

I know there was some controversy over 4 delegates, but that is not going to make any difference - so why get upset about it?

TO HOLYROLLER - I realize it is hard to accept, but it's over. Both candidates came fought a hard campaign, but Hillary came up a little short. There was no conspiracy or unfairness - the results are what they are. She should be respected for a well fought battle, but after all the votes are in next week, it is time for her to step aside. The recent decision to seat the Florida and Michigan delegates with a half vote each was very fair and equitable. I am sure the Hillary supporters wanted both states delegates to be counted in full - with Obama receiving nothing for Michigan because he wasn't on the ballot. While that view is certianly self-serving, it was never realistic. And whatever you might think about it - the decision has been made - and whether you like it or not, the Democratic nominee is going to be Obama. All of those Hillary supporters who are angry and bitter about this to the extent that they say they are going to vote for McCain really need to take the time between now and November to think about what that will really mean. The fact that the next President will probably get the opportunity to appoint two Supreme Court justices should be enough of a reason to calm down, quiet the rhetoric, and really reflect on what the November election is going to mean to this country. Anyone who is truly a democrat will reach the conclusion that they can't possibly vote for McCain in November - and those that do will be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

  • Posted By: BEly @ 06/01/2008 6:34:26 PM

Since the media and the Democratic committee are determined to give the nomination to Obama,
HILLARY should just run as independent!!! She would be able to take all the popular votes with her and let
Obama, the media, and the DNC suck wind! I will never vote for Obama --

    • Posted By: ChrisLPNM @ 06/01/2008 7:02:08 PM

I realize you are angry and disapppointed - but hopefully that will change over time. I don't think Hillary will run as an independent - she is a smart woman and I am sure she would realize that such an action would ensure a McCain victory and at the same time be political suicide for her.

For all the Obama supporters out there - the race is over, let's try to be kind and understanding of what the Clinton supporters must be going through right now. Imagine how you would feel if the situation was reversed.

Disappointment, with some anger and bitterness, is natural, especially when the race has been this close. People need to vent and let loose their frustration. It is part of the healing process. But it can't happen if the Obama supporters keep poking the Clinton supporters and degrading their candidate. Obama isn't doing it and neither should we.

The superdelegates will go Obama's way and this race is over. The party will unite except those people that came to Washington from Ken, WV, and Ohio. Those states voted for skin color. That is what's so sad about our country. We tell other countries to respect others and yet, whites will do anything to stop a black man from becoming our next President. They will sabatoge the election. Are we that great or are we proving Rev. Wright that he is right.

  • Posted By: Sailfast @ 06/01/2008 6:16:18 PM

The Democratic Party Leaders had better wake up and smell the damn coffee! I am a 'Dobbs' Independant. The 'glamore' of having the first Dlack Presidential Candidate will not win the White House, in fact, it might even give him 'coat tails' for others candidates to ride. I would have considered voting for Hilliary, she has a real record and real positions on issues that can be examined. Obama has nothing, just a few pretty speeches and empty promises. If he is nominated I will vote for McCain.

    • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/01/2008 6:45:07 PM

Go and tell those family you are voting for McCain because Hillary didn't win. Tell them that there sons and daughters died for no reason because you used your hate and ignorance to vote for McCain and watch the war go on for no reason. You are really sad.

  • Posted By: summer1216 @ 06/01/2008 6:39:43 PM

Sen Obama won this fair and square by following all the rules. How could the committee take it away from him? To take the nomination away from someone who ran a brilliant campaign, did all the right things, and has energized millions of new voters, while playing by the rules pre-agreed by the Democratic Party . . . . there was no POSSIBLE way the committee could take action that would take it away from him.

  • Posted By: rainbow68 @ 06/01/2008 6:27:27 PM

I agree and disagree with indycommonsense. First of all, there has to be "winner take all" in 2012. This business of you can take a state by 30% and only win a few extra delegates is awful! I don't think that Obama will make a huge mistake and supers will steadily flow back to Hillary. I do think she will be lurking around like a vulture, but ultimately this will be fruitless. She's gone so far that she won't be offered veep, and Obama will likely win in November. I think for a relative newcomer to politics he has done very well. Being "slick" doesn't mean you get to be president. At least this time is doesn't.

    • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/01/2008 6:34:16 PM

they had that before and that started the first war at the convention. That is why they came out with this pledged delegates and superdelegates. To prevent this from happening again. I guess nobody can make the people happy.

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/01/2008 6:32:50 PM

there is a new scandal with the Clintons that I hear the Republicans are about to come out with. The Obama camp is asking that the RNC do not bring out this new scandal. Hillary is already having talks with the Obama camp to be considered for the VP role. The Obama camp just came out and said that they have the number with the superdelegates to win. They have already been pledged to the Obama camp.

  • Posted By: indycommonsense @ 06/01/2008 5:27:27 PM

I PREDICT: Next week we will see lawsuites filed in both Michigan and Florida against the DNC. Obama will reach the number he needs to claim the nomination. Hillary Clinton will not step down but will go to the convention to be "The Voice" of those who voted for her. Between now and the convention Obama will make some mistake or something will come out that will damage him. Polls prior to the convention will indicate that McCain will beat Obama. Floor fight at convention, Dean and senior leaders are voted out. Winner take all primaries for 2012. Supers afraid Obama cant win start switching sides publically. Clinton is nominated by a narrow majority, Messy messy convention. Clinton makes Obama VP, Democrats win general election. You wait and see, this is all about politics and all about winning..

Hilary Clinton failed to run a winning campaign even though she had an advantage of color, status and her husbands influence. She has dug a deep chasm of financial debt, disparaging social politics and rhetoric so morbid and vile that the Democratic Party must denounce and reject her as a whole. In a year, that has seen great tragedy with the death, injuries and mental pain of American soldiers, our country is poised to embark on a high road of change. Hilary Clinton has made us forget why we need to change by being one of the vilest political leaders of the 21 century. America has lost its prestige and world standing by torture, rash wars and the elimination of due process and fairness. We you follow her words of obliteration. Republican elitist have turned into demagogues and absolutist. Does Hilary seek more of the same by keeping Americans in this incessant battle over race, sex and other issues without merit? The Bush presidency has bugged our phones, killed civil liberties and lied to us in the hopes of promoting selfish agendas. As an American citizen, I can loose all my inalienable rights by my government just suggesting I???m a terrorist. We have lost our way. Hillary Clinton and John McCain seek to maintain this status quo.

Barack Obama was poised to unite American in a movement that could have seen 75% of Americans standing up for change and fairness. For once, I was proud of America for uniting for one reason, America. Not for the things that divide us. We need Democrats, Independents and Republicans to unit America to purge lobbyist, special interest and political corruption. Only a united America can solve the great challenges we face today.

Hilary has destroyed the Democratic Party by playing race, sexism and death threat politics in the mist of her faulty run campaign. Because Hilary could not win, the American people must suffer the by product of her pain and misery.

Obama???s strategy and ability to make a difference is totally dependent on a two thirds majority movement. With out this majority, America cannot change. If by some miracle America is re-awakened by a movement to unite behind one leader, even one with flaws, we may still have a chance to reaffirm the greatness that was once America.

One world, one America and one tribe. Live it, think it and be the change you want to see????????????..

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 06/01/2008 5:37:24 PM

Whoa, let's back up a minute - Hilary has not destroyed the Democratic party.

The Democratic party is in better shape than it's ever been - new voter registration is up, turnout is up, fund raising is up, and the march to larger majorities in both the Senate and House in November goes on.

The Democratic party will survive this, growing stronger and smarter with each month, as they finally triumph in November by beating McCain.

Both Hilary and Obama have contributed mightily to this process, and they have each taught the other important lessons for the coming fight with McCain - which is the only fight that matters.

The only way Hilary could destroy the democratic party now is if she does not back Obama going forward. She is bright and ambitious, and knows she has a future in the senate, possibly as governor of NY, and certainly within the Party itself

10 years from now, Hilary may look back on this moment as the real launching pad of her career; a time when she rebounded from a supposed defeat that in reality was her spring board.

Obama, on the other hand, may look back 10 years from now and think he should have been more careful about what he wished for. Being president has a funny way of humbling men to their knees - history has not been very kind to any of them since 1964, and Obama may not be able to avoid that fate.

Don't buy into the rhetoric - the Democratic party is alive and well. And it may well be that Hilary, in losing the nomination, comes out the real winner.

      • Posted By: summer1216 @ 06/01/2008 6:14:14 PM

The Democratic party was indeed strengthened by this spirited contest until recently. But now I have to agree with One Tribe. Democrats have badly hurt themselves in the last month or so. It remains to be seen what can be salvaged from this mess.
