The real estate problem today was caused by pricing and will be fixed with pricing.
Living near retail with housing created around retail/city squares only helps. What usually happens is that the housing on/near public transportation will increase due to people desiring to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Every effort to curb gas consumption is a good thing. American's wealth is in their homes and will continue to be so. -

Pathetic, utterly pathetic, and shallow are my first reactions. While it is pretty well recognhized that this type of immature real estate specualtion has been the driving force in the real estate melt down of the past two years, this article seems to be stuck in 2005. Nice homes for nice people, coffee cup depositories for pin heads.

Ha! Doesn't make a difference when you live in the Seattle area. In my normal everyday 25 minute walk around downtown Bellevue I pass 8 Starbucks!

When my wife and I were house-hunting four years ago, the agent informed us that the development we were considering was going to have an innovative mix of small shops within a short walking distance of the house. When we learned that one of the anchor tenants was going to be a Starbucks, we called our agent and told her "Sold!" Since that time, our neighborhood has been completed, the traffic has been non-stop, business growth is tremendous and the best part is that our property values keep going up, up, up. In fact, a recent report ranked Charlotte as the only major city with an increase in property values. The Starbucks Effect is alive and well in Charlotte.

Would you buy a house next to a movie star, could mean getting some free bucks.

It's nice to live near retail. With gas prices the way they are and since I'm in real estate, I find that a lot of buyers want to live close to public transportation as well as shops.

A lot of typo's in this article. Also a lot of "could have, might be, estimates he could" statements. Dubious at best.
