Hell, yes, it's sexism! I'm a 50 year old woman, and I am so *** tired of watching stupid, stupid things like, oh, *** 60 year old Harrison (I'm so damned wrinkled) Ford try to play a raconteur/daredevil? Puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeze! I've never even seen the show SATC--I prefer South Park and Fight Club--but by God, you go, girls!

Sheesh, sexism is EVERYWHERE now isn't it? Its just lurking in all those people who think that third-wave feminism or post-feminism or whatever you want to call it just might not be the best thing for women after all...

Just a warning: The claim of "sexism" will lose all force- to the detriment of women- if it continues to be used in this kind of cavalier manner. For the sake of all of us, please watch it.

I am so sorry that men in general, here in the US are so pathetic. They are so unsure of their masculinity and so hang-up on being empty jock-heads that i.e. I am originally from Austria, full blown male, woman loving stud, and my male friends panic when I meet them and dare to hug or even worst kiss the as we do in Europe... you think that they will accept a chick flick?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Always, the men dominate the movies -- from the critics and even the genres. Ever notice how the beat 'em up and shoot 'em up (not to mention the bathroom humor genre)
films consistently earn more ratings stars? I am just chortling because men are terrified of these four fictional characters.

Here's the interesting thing: women don't really care what their boyfriends or husbands think of these characters, the series, or the movie. They are clearly tuned in regardless, and that alone speaks volumes about this franchise's power.

No, no, no. Knowing what you like, and knowing what you don't like isn't sexist. If shallow, vapid women want to watch other shallow, vapid women doing shallow, vapid things on the screen (shallowly and vapidly, no doubt), then that's fine. Expecting everyone to want to do so is just sheer blather.

Next, for the person talking about withholding sex in order to get one's male partner to go see the movie, hey, grow up. The idea that a woman couldn't go to see the movie by herself is itself sexist. If you (whomever you are, and you know who you are) expect a man to endure something he doesn't like just because you want to do it, then you're not mature enough to be in a real relationship. Some things don't need to be shared. There's no reason you have to go to Rocky, Rambo, Indiana Jones or whatever--if the relationship isn't strong enough for one to go to a movie and one to go do some other item of interest, then it's not a good, strong relationship.

Maybe this neurotic, everything-is-sexist response is some New York thing. Out here in Real America we don't get our grits in a grind over it. I'm just sayin'.

After watching the trailer I can see why women love it and I really REALLY won't be seeing it. It's the usual chick flick on steroids dripping with estrogen. My penis actually sprang from my pants and stopped the trailer itself! Other than that... I can't comment on the bashing since I haven't seen the movie.

Really, I just asked my boyfriend to go to the movie with me. He said he wouldn't pay for his ticket or mine (since it wasn't his choice of movie), but still was apparently kinder than some men for even attending with me. The thought of manipulation didn't really cross my mind honestly. I feel bad for the women who feel they have to threaten to withhold sex in order to get their man to agree to go to a movie. Carrie and the girls would definitely not approve of that relationship.

i think the post by techresmgt says it all in a nutshell of how stupid and angry some men are.

Ramin... great article. i've been saying this stuff for the last month. but you have one error in your story. you are right that the imdb users overwhelmingly voted the film a 1 because they were angry... and ended up giving the film an avg. of the low 3's at one point. but the film (growing steadily) is only up to 4.8 right now. mostly because it's hard to balance out 3900 ratings of 1. the 7.4 rating you refer to in the story is for the series not the movie.

Why are men bashing this movie? DUH. Maybe because men are weary and tired of women bashing everything MALE. Of course the media never broaches that subject; too afraid of the women, I imagine. According to the popular media, male bashing is quite all right; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, female bashing verboten. In fact, the media supports and encourages this imbecilic notion. THAT is sexist, in case someone thinks sexism is a one-way street and only the province of men. Women use manipulation to get their 'boyfriends and husbands' to go see the movie. Just say no, let 'em eat cake.
