McCain’s ‘Change’ Speech

As Barack Obama secured enough delegates to win the Democratic nomination, John McCain wasted no time painting him as an inexperienced partisan.

The rolling ball needs to be stopped! Not continue to roll into Iran or bounce around Iraq for 100 yrs. The only thing McCain has shown it that he CAN NOT seperate himself from the last 8yrs, he CAN NOT find himself from 2000 and he CAN NOT let go of the campaign by FEAR mentality that has been the republican way since 9/11. The problem for McCain is that it is only he and the SMALL heard of Bush sheeple who are afraid of the "brown boogeymen". The other 85% of America have more realistic concerns and some fears, but those are for our country, our children, our economy, healthcare, enviroment, our general well being as a country. Not "Freddy Alibaba Cruger" or "Micheal the Sheik Meyers", real fears, real concerns. War is your answer for everything and it solves NOTHING, not these wars, not "WARS FOR OIL".

TYLER - The price of oil swelled to another record high Monday morning - before dropping back. It almost hit $140 a barrel - but then fell 25 cents. It appears - a recent increase in oil output from Saudi Arabia -- is not driving down crude prices. Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, who started a bipartisan group called "American Solutions for Winning the Future" held little back at the Texas Republican Convention. He wants to use American solutions to change to the U.S. energy policy.

Simply put - he's fed up with Congress: "The problem is not big oil or the foreigners," said Speaker Gingrich. "The problem is not the Saudis. The problem is getting Congress to do it's job." And that job, he says, is to start using the energy we have. "Congress outlaws every conceivable energy source," said Speaker Gingrich. Gingrich is making his case for domestic drilling by launching a campaign with Actor Chuck Norris, with the slogan: "Drill here, Drill now, Pay less." The campaign is urging Congress to do something now to bring down gas prices. Speaker Gingrich also has thoughts on speculators. "It's people who are betting the U.S. is too dumb to produce (its own oil)."

He sides with East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert -- when it comes to speculators and drilling. "If you began selling off two million barrels a day...we can pump out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It would immediately bring down the price of oil." Speaker Gingrich proposes selling off half of the reserve - now. "Do it suddenly..without telling anybody in advance and punish every speculator."The very speculators, he says, that are betting against America."

You should work for FOX Noise (where you got your "facts") Jsut a few points I'd like to add ;)
KATRINA!!! Oil companies saw it as an opertunity to JACK PRICES and NEVER lowered them back down.

2.19 and CLIMBING DAILY!!! since bush took office

4.5 and CLIMBING since bush took office.

Bush's business buddies got rich off the Housing industries and then the bubble broke, due to gas prices, and 12billion a month in IRAQ, cost of living skyrocketing and income dropping, thanks to Bush.

Do you know how many "VETOS" Bush issued from 00 to 06?...0!, NONE!, NOT ONE EVER IN THAT TIME. Since 06 he has issues more than 100 VETOS, and still going. No as of late and as of the republicans trying to hold their seats, his veots are being blocked. How ever the republicans blocked what ever they could from the democrats and if they could not by a vote, Bush would veto. So you see it is still the republicans who were deatroying this country in every way they could. McCain would love to do the SAME AS BUSH.
Quoting McCain..."I have a VETO pen in my pocket and I WILL NEVER STOP USING IT!"
It's amazing how "different" he is from bush...lol

    nice try though.

America has ALREADY voted for change! They were going show Bush in 2006! And we sure got CHANGE!

    Before Democrats controlled Congress:

    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high.

    2) Regular unleaded gasoline was $2.19 a gallon.

    3) Unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1) Consumer confidence plummet.

    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $4.00 a gallon.

    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase).

    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses).

    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars; 1% of American homes are now in foreclosure.

    6) Oil was 63 dollars a barrel the day before the newest congress convened. It closed last Friday at 126 dollars a barrel. That is doubled for those with fuzzy math.

    7) Economic Growth for the 4th quarter of 2006 in GDP was 3.5 percent.

    8)1st Quarter 2008 0.6 percent.

Remember it's Congress that makes laws, not the President. The President has to work with what is handed to the Administration.

The bill states only things involving monetary values for education nothing based around the disability or medical care of what you say you claim to care about. So if you read that there is a nice little part that says 3 months active duty, there isn't a time slot that is just 3 months active duty the shortest tours that are out there are 6 months of active duty components. The National Guard and Reserve side of the house serves 12 months minimum and more along the lines of 15 months. I could understand the outrage you feel the need to give over some medical benefits that are lacking but there aren't any in there, the GI Bill has nothing to do with Medical benefits at all. Also with accordance with the Iraq war anyone who was served over there has already had their schooling monies increased to 900 or more a month.

you fail or refuse to see the point, it's more for them, and McCain NO SHOWED/NO VOTED them but wants to keep killing them for his dream of living up to his dead fathers expectations, sh!t we're just getting rid of a President with "daddy" issues...now you want another one?
Who knows, as much as McCain flops around he may very soon support our troops.

Change??? What change??? One of John McCain's best friends is Phil Gram, who brought us the mortgage meltodwn. Another close McCain friend is Carly Fiorina, who claimed that a job is no longer an American right. McCain favors outsourcing American jobs overseas and/or bringing in "guest workers" whenever corporations don't want to pay their hired help a decent wage. He stopped short of selling tickets to the war in Iraq, and still wants to keep us there for any where from 35 to 100 years. He did nothing as CIA agents were outed - obviously McCain puts party politics over national security.

He claims he's a maverick, but I have never once seen him oppose anything Bush has done. Yeah, he opposed torture for a while, but then flip-flopped. As far as implementing the Big Ticket change, freeing us from fossil fuel and decarbonizing our economy, McCain favors givning the oil and nuclear industries the same old tax breaks and scrapping EPA, along with the FDA - making everything from the air we breathe to the tomatoes we eat hazards to the public health. John McCain's idea of change is about the same as the changes Leonid Brezhnev instituted. Both Brezhnev and McCain are really identical twins, fossilized minds who cannot understand that we're in a new century.

P.s. McCain's failure to support the veterans' bill is inexcusable. I'd advise both McCain and everyone reading this missive to see the documentary Body of War which portrays the life of a severely disabled iraqi war veteran. Then you'll understand what a reprehensible excuse for a human being McCain really is.

I have read the bill you suggested, now you need to read the actuall bill we are discussing Bill# S. 22 when you have read it let me know and then you can tell me what McCain was opposed to ;)

And yes at times my spelling sucks, lol, but it's the nature of frustration, I'm angry because there is no REAL support for our children who are fighting these WARS. People think calling ALL of them "heros" and declaring themselves "patriots" makes it all ok, but that is NOT support, and you and I both knwo that.

We need True patriotism and honest love for this country, not the sh!t bush has been feeding his public for 6yrs now. He and his followers may face war crime charges and even if he does'nt that fact that he is continually accused. not just by we the people, bu tby his peer and the world, should tell you something. Sad enough for 20% of this country, it does not.

Go to the senate website and read the bill. It's not for that much more care then they are getting now. The read the proposed one that Senator McCain has proposed and stop acting like a child. I am now beginning to question your so called PHD is forensic Psych. I think that you just pulled that out when you found out that I was actually a college graduate, also that I can actually spell where you seem to be lacking. That so call 21st Century GI Bill lacks all types of any help for veterans; mostly just spending on construction but that would requiring you to read it and I don't think that you did. Look at the other proposed bill I cited it states Wounded Warrior Act if your son is a Marine you should be aware of that considering it's the name of the bill focused on Marine Disabled Vets.

    12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month 12billion a month

    I don't wan to hear BULLSH!T about Bill Clinton, 12billion a month!!!

Pork was not MY word, it was McCains excuse.

The "over 12billion" you speak of is NOT a PER MONTH COST OF THE BILL, as the war is.

What I hear from you is honessly a lot of "buck passing". "it's clinton, it's Dems, etc" or qualifiers...if the standard was not met? What more of a "qualifier" do you need then being BLOWN UP for your country in an unjustified occupation/police action/war. My question is where is the care he needs? NOW, not in ten years, or no thanks to Bill C. or any other excuse that can be thought of, where is the care these men need?

YouTube is not a credible source for most anything at all. Clips can be edited and also just as anything else people will do and say anything for money. The reason that they were struggle for equipment in the beginning is because the massive Military Cuts that were suffered under President Clinton. I'm not blame anyone for the lack of funds or equipment except for that who wished to pad their pockets and also draw that money to keep our Military strong to give us a so called lower unemployment rate which was only an overabundance of minimum wage jobs which cannot conclude with a healthy lifestyle if one other then living paycheck to paycheck. One your point of the GI Bill if you read this bill The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriation Act 2008 HR 2642 which is located on the Senates website under active bills. If you look under the amendments category it still doesn't help because the assessment of the care given is left up to the physician also that most of the costs would be absorbed by the salaries that would be paid to civilians who would play the role as the caregiver. Also if you look the wording in some of the paragraphs it is filled with what you call "Pork" which does have nothing to do with the proper care and help that our veterans require. Also if you look at the estimated costs of this bill you will see that it exceeds that 12 Billion mark and that isn't for just military services members but for others that they feel the need to give kick backs to. To your example of Hypocrisy (is the correct spelling for the word by the way) a completely misguided example because they are nothing alike in terms of money for veterans. If he has been a lifetime Marine then if their benefits work the same as the Army he would get free health-care for his family plus a pension, if he isn't because of his status or didn't achieve the standard that the Marine Corp has set then that is an issue with that particular branch of the Military not with the president, congress, or a potential president. If you would kindly look to another point Senator McCain has also sponsored another military bill that would increase the health care for our wounded warriors and also give a pay raise to the military see also Senate Active bills Wounded Warrior Act of 2007 where there is not a mention of anything but given care to veterans and disabled and able alike. You should care what is attached to the new GI Bill because with the trust and faith that others won't sneak in their own personnel interests and place money in other places rather than where it needs to be then the bill itself would be of further detriment to the supposed recipients add the numbers if to goes well over 12 Billion dollars.

  • Posted By: HDavidson @ 06/15/2008 8:10:57 PM

Well as far as YouTube, those are videos of McCain himself, nothing else, and Veterans speaking about the treatment thay have recieved. If the money was ACTUALLY going to our GIs I'd have not one problem with the cost. It goes to the contractors, why else would our troops have sub standard equipment, body armor, traonsports, etc? 12billion a month, they should be able to hire the guys from "pimp my rie" to trick out those Hummers...lol. All kidding aside, the money does not go where it needs to, and our troops siffer for it.
McCain's EXCUSE for his NO VOTE was the "PORK" attached to the bill. Republicans want to b!tch about dems spending, and taxing, yet NOT ONE WORD about 12billion to the contractors in Iraq and our troops suffering, not just there but when they return, not being able to get the help they NEED, mentally and physically.
We had to have a bennefit for my cousin, because he was not getting wht he needed from the US. WHY!

Let's look at an example of hipocracy for a sec:

If a woman marries a man and she spends enough time with him, loving, sharing, MAYBE cooking, MAYBE cleaning (also shared) He makes more money than she, then the split (for whatever reason) the courts say she is ENTITLED to the life style she is "used to". WTF!?
Why should a woman who only married a man, and spent some time with him for better or worse, have more rights than a VETERAN who has given his mind, body, soul and maybe even his/her life?
Why is a VETERAN NOT "ENTITLED" TO THE LIFE STYLE HE WAS USED TO?

Answer me that, how can anybody who claims to support this war for oil, sleep knowing that? Why should me cousin HAVE TO have a fund raiser? He should not want or need for anything..ever again, after what he has given, he has been a life time Marine, and now his career will never be what it was, nor shall he. And yet he is left to suffer, not get the surgery he needs, because they say pain pills should do the trick...that how they treat or VETS. I don't care WHAT was attached to this new GI BILL, if it helped them at all, GIVE IT TO THEM. Like I said, I'm possitive it did not have 12billion a month attached to it.

No I'm not saying that you faked them...but I wouldn't count on YouTube as a credible source on anything. Both sides have used it for their own purposes. Just like with all the rest of media. If I were to say I was stating facts it would be tied to the senate bill site. With the actual bill being posted on there. Also as for the surveys they are all taken out of a poll to which the source group decides is their base, so surveys are also quiet bias. A PHD in Forensic Psychology well congratulation to you that's an accomplishment in itself. As for the articles on the costs of the war, the one is outdated posted in 2006, the econbrowser doesn't substantiate most of it's claims with sources, there by saying it could be the opinion of the economist who wrote it, I'm not saying it's not factual but I'm also not saying war is cheap, and keep the thousands of lives protected over their wouldn't be worth every penny they but into it, because a human life holds more value then money any day and you should understand that with having family members in the Marines. As for the Boston post it was it was attacking from democrats rather then any information, and if you understand the problem that the military is undergoing with individuals signing up and doing their tour and getting out simply for the money then you would understand why would like to see them spend more time in service. It is an estimated cost of 250K to train west point cadets to become officers, that's a substantial input into someones life from them to serve 3 years and then resign their commission. we are running out of officers and also NCO's to lead our troops. As for the counterpunch post it is also more propaganda that people just given their opinions not stated facts so I wouldn't hold much faith in that either. As for the usatoday article it doesn't state that he thinks he's god choice it just states the affect it has taken on him personality wise and also that he looks to a higher places for guidance. Also to become an officer in the US Army you are required a college degree four years to be exact so yes it would be fitting that I have graduated from college with a degree. Also you're correct I don't fantasize about them and talking sh*t is the reason people have resorted to name calling, I respect all competitors in the race enough to use their actual names, and don't find that their needs to be the mudslinging.

Well my family has also served in every war since the Civil war...and no matter the president they served with the same distinction and honor that would become of a soldier. Just out of plain morbid curiosity where do you get your facts. I'm sorry I don't fantasies about your testicles either..and also if you are as of your name on here HDdavidson...which would indicate that you own a motorcycle...that would indicate that you, yourself have not suffered much at all considering I know the price of those since my family member works for them. So since I didn't answer any of your questions from which you have no facts or anything other then assumptions. If you honestly believe that the President had everything to do with the the fact we are at war look at your so called other Democrats who have also made money from the war. There isn't a good politician out there I am just choosing the lessor of two evils. I have never down talked either of them I'm just going from the facts that I have researched. As for the whole psychological thing you have no clue, considering I happen to have a B.S. in psychology. So justify all you want, until you given proven facts and sources keep your name calling and mindless bullshi* to yourself...

  • Posted By: HDavidson @ 06/14/2008 8:25:34 PM

Ah Yeeeaaaahhh! Well big talker, first of all you were not called any names except to observe that you are misguided (IMO). It is you, when faced with the facts and DIRECT QUESTIONS TO THOSE FACTS who has resorted to name calling, it's called projection sweetie, that is the psychological term to be used here. Petela, right knee kept me out, my son however is in Iraq, he's a Marine, my cousin (also Marine) was hit last April by an IED while in transit, he survived, but will never be the same, and where is the Government? Where are you?
McCain ahs had only 1 son in Iraq, as a clerk (like RADAR on M.A.S.H.) green zone only, no combat, and home again. Political theatre, why has he only been once, why has he returned before anybody else, he should be the last one there and on the front line, since daddy is such a big advocate of WAR FOR OIL.

You much like your choice of candidate, he FAILED to answer any questions, instead you fantasize about my testicles...lol My Family has served this country since the Civil War in evry war, in ever branch of the millitary, so your feeble attempt to get a rise out of me, is not only sad and weak, much like your every attempt at a point, but it has done nothing but expose you for who you are instead of who you pretend to be.

So if EVER you deside to actually answer any of the points made or even to TRY to counter any of the facts with evidence supporting your oppinion, I welcome it, but until then we both know the only reason you wonder if I have "testicles attached to my limited body"..is so you can suck em' and pretend they belong to GW.
see not fun when I go your way with this, please don't continue to make me do that, it's just not nice...lol

Oh yeah wheather some has or has not "served" is irrelevant if they are not DEMMANDING others die for OIL or any other unjust reason...

  • Posted By: unitedwestand03 @ 06/14/2008 7:08:56 PM

Well HDavidson....do you have the balls to serve your country or are you what you call everyone else chickensh*t.......if you are going to quote anything beyond looking at a piece of paper a Democrat gave you saying that this bill was so fantastic then you are also entitled to your opinion...And no I'm not entitled to my option I signed up and then I decided to be an Officer because I'm not a gutless lowlife as yourself. Also if you're going to refer to me as a ***...I'd appreciate that you actually have a pair of testicles attached to your limited body and I do hope that you'd have any offspring because they will undoubtedly end up as misguided and ill educated are y ourself. Also as I pointed out before with the name calling, what a shocker that I pegged you from the get go in that post you can't respect someone enough to actually use their name, instead you choose to dehumanize them with the name calling. Typical psychology would point to saying you have to dehumanize someone in order to feel as you are superior to them. It's what we do in the military when we are set to kill replace names and faces with something else makes it easier to kill. You'd also be wise to realize that he has children in the Military as well and they are actually serving in Iraq. So keep your comments to the facts yourself.

  • Posted By: HDavidson @ 06/12/2008 8:29:06 PM

WOW! United, you should call yourself misguided. You claim that "church is no place for politics but want the white house occupied by "GOD's President" (self proclaimed bush). You say your "Army" yet you vote for MORE WAR YEARS...(?) You are entitled to your :oppinion", you and the other 18% of people who think the country is headed in the right direction or the 20+% who still support the murderer known as Bush. You're right we can blame the REPUBLICAN CONGRESS for giving him permission to kill our sons and daughters for OIL. Remember it was John McCian who confessed that we fight "WARS FOR OIL" on 05/03/08, his words in context were..."IF we can win in Iraq, we will NEVER again have to fight WARS FOR OIL."
So you seem to be the type who likes blood for oil and the destruction of America, the complete abondonment of our troops when they do return broken and need help, you turn your back. Makes sense as your candidate turned his back too by NO VOTING THE NEW GI BILL, why you may ask...he said it had too much "pork" attached, I ask was there 12billion a month for the next 100yrs attached?...NO! so how much "prok could there have been to make him turn his back on our sons and daughters fighting these wars?
Yeah you have picked a winner to support, hey while I've got you can you explain the whole "hero" thing to me? I'm just not seeing how McCain is a "hero"...help me out.

Not calling you a racist, or any other name for that matter, though that would be my right too under that same constitution that you and your president smear with the blood of our children, I'm just glad and I thank GOD that you and the Bushites are in the Minority of this country, 18 to 20%, not enough to win in 08, and don't worry you can thank us later when we pull this country back together, set it back on a course of GREATNESS and restore it to the Nation it was meant to be, the Nation destroyed not by any terrorist, but by 1 man and his tight little group of murderers..George W. Bush nad if you had your way, John McCain.

    Take care sir.

I think the real travesty is that fact that most of the Obama supporters can???t seem to get past the childlike name calling of others. As it goes for most mindless political opinions; Yes, there is name calling on both sides but where do you see most of it come from. Yes, I???m a registered Republican, Yes I will vote for John McCain, not because I???m a racist bigot or anything like that; lets face it I???m 100% Irish and my ancestors suffered far more by selling themselves into slavery. Besides everyone needs to get over the whole racist point of view it happened how many years ago, they adults and youth of black race today didn???t suffer, how about we stop with the mindless rhetoric that we owe apologizes to everyone who doesn???t resemble an individual of the white race. I don???t owe anyone anything except for the respect that is due when they respect me and others. If you???re unable to look past the fact that you think the people of the world owe you something then I believe you???re the actual racist. Obama has listened to hatred preached from a so called device of God for how many years. I???ve attended church for over 23 years and never heard anything of political notions uttered because it???s not the place to point fingers to lay blame. It???s a place to preach hope, love and peace. If that congregations idea of that is preaching hatred and that the world owes them for being black then they aren???t a church at all just a extension of the Black Panther Party of the 70???s. If you can???t go a week without hearing something about an Obama affiliate spewing hatred and no remorse for things they say then realize that the company we keep is reflected from ourselves. Where did the racist idea come from the south from people who listened to it spewed from mouths for years. There is your evidence that the convictions Obama has set are nothing but empty words and promises to placate the crowd who he is speaking to. It???s in my opinion which I???m am justly entitled to by the Constitution of the United States (which I serve by the way as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army) that he believe not in change but self-preservation for himself and his party lines. That he doesn???t hold it within himself to bring change to a flawed system which has given him the power and wealth that he displays. Also if you want to lay blame on President Bush go ahead, but also realize the fault doesn???t all lay with him, Congress enacted the decree of war without which we wouldn???t be at war just another Vietnam, a conflict where the veterans still suffer because without that declaration no benefits are given. So if you want to lay blame, blame the congress men and women to whom you voted in, and think about your choices then, did you choose your party or did you choose the person to whom to held views with.

This is my favorite line from this piece by far:

McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers: It doesn't bode well for Senator Obama's pledges to run a campaign of hope and change when on the first day of the general election he's launching the same tired negative attacks that the American people are so sick and tired of.

What the American people truly are sick and tired of is politicians lying through their teeth even when faced with cold hard fact and truth. The Republicans certainly weren't complaining about "negative attacks" when people who were speaking out against the Iraq invasion early on were lambasted by the media and they had the public feeding on whatever line they chose to give out. But when the truth about the war and the patent falsehoods that were propagated by the administration started coming to light, suddenly it was "the liberal media attacking" them.

An administration that can't stand straight in the light of day and stand tall in the face of truth is not one that I would choose to be led by. Our Constitution, our very government was created in defiance of tyranny and once stood as a beacon that several other nations the world over chose to follow. How far this government has fallen from that ideal. You don't create democracy by invading another country and installing your own puppet government, for that is the path of the despot and the tyrant. You don't lead with the whip, you lead by example.

McCain has shown time and again that rather than stand straight and face truth, he would instead twist and distort it to make him appear something he is not. Values he once spoke out for and stood by he has readily abandoned in order to curry favor from his own party. Even if he chose to break away from Bush and his plans, it would still be a third term of an administration rife with dishonesty and double dealing with the American public.

I am an independent myself, and as a Texan, I honestly had some hope for Bush making a positive change. Those hopes were shattered his first year in office, though, before even 9/11. Watching and reading about Obama, however, I find myself hoping again. He has endured countless attacks on his person and integrity, and has weathered them all with greater poise and honesty than most I have seen in a long time. He says that he is for a more transparent government and greater communication with the people of this nation. Unlike his adversary McCain, his voting history and his policies bear that out. There is a world of difference between a "negative attack" and "setting the record straight," and it's time the American public became more active and started learning about that. I do believe that Obama is this nation's best chance at this juncture in history to rise once more and stand on its own in the light of day. When choosing your leader, be sure it is one that listens to you and speaks for you, not one that speaks to you and would have you listen

"...George W. Bush, a man suffering some of the lowest public-approval numbers of any recent president but who remains deeply popular with the Republican base and, perhaps most importantly, big-dollar GOP donors."

Proof positive that Republicans are idiots.

News Flash according to the recent polls, Hillary supporters are starting to come around, one voter stated at first she was disappointed but her vote will go to the man who has the same ideas and policies as Hillary Clinton, she believes both parties will come together to win in November. This voter along with many more has joined Hillary at HillaryClinton.com to show support to her and Obama, they said this is the only opportunity we have at this time to change our country.

Obama and Clinton will meet again in weeks to come to join forces, this is not personal but it's about how we can right now shape our government. If we vote out of anger, that will not help our economy, our soldiers, our seniors who are facing foreclosures, the highest rate ever of unemployment, the rising gas prices, ETC.

To the Hillary supporters who don't like the fact that Hillary lost, just remember both candidates received nearly 18 million votes, that tells us that as many supporters who looked to Clinton to fight for a change, so did the 18 million supporters who voted for Obama to fight for change, but at the end of the day. You must remember they are on THE SAME TEAM. Obama and Hillary are not enemies, they ran a hard fight but now like Both candidates said from DAY 1 at the end we will unite because we know whats at stake.

Us Americans should also know what's at stake. We can make all the difference in this world, our voices can be so clear to the republicans that we demand change and sending Obama to the White House we will prevail....

I am a white male, but in my rural county, there are a lot of disenfranchised non-elitist white woman who are voting for Obama.....I guess we are not important to the "establishment" either.....

Elect Obama, somebody who actually has ideas about how to fix the economy and doesn't admit on national television, like mcbush, that "I know nothing about the economy, but Iraq is the real problem anyway...the economy is fine...." another denialist.....how's this workin' for ya...or mccain could be dirty johnny: "now you gotta ask yourself, did I shoot five bullets or six, and then you gotta ask yourself, do I feel lucky, well do you, punk??"....probably paraphrased not very well...but I think mcbush is a false centrist, does not work well with others, has anger and other issues.....which would not produce real change...it is 95 and humid here in upstate ny in the beginning of june.....and smoggy....and neocons still don't believe in global warming...we do not have any time to elect more fools...........if we are not at peak oil, then only God knows what will happen when we are? or even in china and india are the reason for more demand, do you think it is temporary???? and then ask yourself, do I feel lucky, well, do you punk????

.....also by the way........ Obama had 20 thousand people at his victory speech in Montana with 18 thousand more outside trying to get in, while McSame's handlers couldn't mustered more than a couple hundred negative hooters even with three weeks of planning. How did that get left out of your so-called 'article'??

    • Posted By: varacefan @ 06/10/2008 4:29:49 PM

Again, as a Dem I could not care less about how many people show up to see Obama. My god look how many people still show up to get a look at Michel Jackson. What does that mean? I refuse to vote for someone because my friends think he is cool. Obama is in way over his head and I fear our party will lose in the long run win or lose this election.

      • Posted By: bleeker @ 06/12/2008 1:34:20 PM

That an article reports about an important speech and leaves out the most glaring facts, that's the point.

  • Posted By: bleeker @ 06/08/2008 1:55:44 PM

How is it possible that your article fails to mention that McCain's speech was absolutely horrible in tone and presentation - that it was held to a small crowd of boo-ers, and that he ripped-off Obama's 'Change we can believe in' and changed it into a petty slogan of 'That's not change we can believe in'. Repeating this pathetic mantra more than a dozen times, followed by a fake smile that looked more Dr. Strangelove sneaker. And not only this, you fail to mention it was planned for three weeks before to take the air out of Obama's victory speech ...which was not just inspirational, it was historically important milestone for all races in our melting pot. How do you call yourself 'journalists???

  • Posted By: Nins @ 06/07/2008 12:42:52 AM

Concerned Citizen, you really shouldn't talk about Obama voting "Present" when he was in the Illinois State Senate, a body where voting Present is a commonly accepted practice among all the Senators. You are making me just itch to tell the world the truth about McCain's voting record (or lack thereof).

In the first session of the 110th Congress (2007), McCain holds the dubious honor of missing, by a wide margin, more votes than any other Senator save one. The only one who missed more? That would be Senator Tim Johnson, who was recovering from a brain hemorrhage.

The Washington Post has a database that tracks vote missed in the Senate. McCain missed a whopping 261 of 468 votes, about 56%. And it not because he wasn't there in the building. He refuses to vote on any bill that is controversial or that he might be criticized for. Consequently, he votes on almost all of the silly votes (like "Name a Daisy Day") but fails to be in the room when really important stuff is going down, like votes concerning the war in Iraq. Senator Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader became so angry with McCain about this that he took him task for it right on the Senate floor, saying "Senator McCain has spent considerable time defending the President on Iraq, but has only managed to show up for four of the last fourteen Iraq votes."

In case you think I made that up, I will give you a reference: "McCain Missed Votes on Iraq Triggers Reid Rebuke" published in The Hill, May 17, 2007.

You may be asking why would McCain not want to vote on Iraq? Because he already knew then that he would be running for President, and he knew the war was increasingly unpopular, and he didn't want the Democrats to be able to point to his record and say "Look how he votes on Iraq."

McCain has also missed important votes on national security, funding of law enforcement, equipment for firefighters, and of course, his most recent no-show, on giving veterans the GI Bill. In fact, McCain misses more than half of his votes.

I could write at least five more blogs about how McCain is failing as a Senator by refusing to vote, giving lots of details. And my information is true, with references that can be verified. You write smears about Obama, take one true thing and amplify and distort it into a complete exaggeration, and offer no sources for your information.

I promise you that every time you do that, i will respond with more true facts about John McCain, and as far as McCain is concerned, the truth hurts. I don't care if you criticize Obama or say that you don't like him, but make sure that the "facts" you use are correct or I will rebut them with REAL stuff about your candidate that will really make you wish you hadn't started this whole smear campaign against Obama.

    • Posted By: dking312 @ 06/07/2008 3:19:44 AM

      Good one!!

I like when I can actually find someone with credible facts. I mean, this is amazing. The truth is, secretly someone has it going around that Obama wants to pull a "Robin Hood", and he's a muslim, and he believes what any and every church preacher in Chicago thinks, and he lacks experience and good judgement (even though he ran a historic and unprecedented campaign with great talent). Oh, and the last silly one where he just wants to go talk with any and everybody for a half of purpose and no matter if they want to kill him, his daughters, and the rest of us of not.

I wanted to contrast all that one could say bad about Obama (which aren't even true or concrete validations) with a PORTION of the things that are true (with sources) of Mccain. Not to mention how shallow the Obama comments are compared with the FACTS about flip flop Mccain. Why did he need to do a speech in Louisana when he couldn't even help them at ANY POINT AND TIME? (he managed to vote ney on those New Orleans investigative committee votes, multiple times!)

MCCocaine on the issues. Just to let you guys know, I don't just vote for Barack because he is who he is, I actually think this John guy is full is crap, and I don't agree with his way of thinking, his policies, NOTHING>
Who seriously agrees with this guy?
    Abortion:
McCain believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and that the abortion question should be left to the individual states to legislate. He has called abortion a human tragedy, and believes community action can go far in "the fight for life" by promoting alternatives to abortion and providing expectant mothers with the necessary support.
    Energy/Environment:
McCain is the chief co-sponsor of a bill that sets mandatory caps on greenhouse emissions. His plan would allow companies to trade excess carbon emission capacity, and would require emissions to return to 2004 levels by 2012 and to 1990 levels by 2020. McCain wants to see more investment in alternative-energy sources such as nuclear power, ethanol, fuel cells, bio-diesel, and natural gas. He believes ethanol will play a big part in energy independence.
    Immigration:
McCain wants a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would improve border surveillance and enforcement, strengthen penalties against those who hire illegal immigrants, and stop document fraud. He wants to develop a guest worker program that allows illegal immigrants to earn legitimate status. McCain sponsored the 2006 comprehensive immigration reform bill. Had it passed, it would have allowed some illegal immigrants already in the U.S. to work and apply to become legal residents after learning English, paying fines and back taxes, and clearing a background check. McCain believes that securing the borders is one of the federal government's most important obligations.
    Iraq:
McCain thinks Bush's strategy in Iraq can succeed, and that if the U.S. fails to stabilize Iraq now, the threat of terrorism against American interests will grow. McCain has strongly criticized Democrats who support a troop withdrawal timeline, but has also criticized the administration for mishandling the war. He says Donald Rumsfeld will be remembered as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history.
    Taxes:
McCain says tax cuts work best in conjunction with lower spending. He blames excessive spending for Republican losses in the 2006 elections. McCain was one of two Republican senators to oppose the 2001 tax cuts, arguing that too many of the benefits went to the most fortunate at the expense of the middle class. He also opposed the 2003 tax cuts. McCain says he would not raise taxes, but that he would not go as far as to sign a pledge to that effect. He believes a repeal of the estate tax isn't necessary.
Mental note: Before Repubs took control of congress, we were spending about 8 million for earmarks. Then, Rupubs wanted to let EVERYBODY do it...we then went to 27 million....all earmarks.

I did check out your link. Ain't that something? I hope plenty more take a look at this and see that the John Mc NO NO that they want to vote for is a presumptive nominee hasbin who scratches Bush's ass BARE whenever asked, has only stared trying to disassociate himself from the current administration for the purpose of fooling us and getting in the white house to continue the work of the evil & the greedy.
    KUDOS.
Did you see this goofy dude stumbling in his "Green backdrop" speech? An audience member asked him something he didn't want to talk about, and I mean he stumbled HARD. Then, a second guy asked him again(Because he only stumbled, he never actually gave an answer), and he let's the guy get the statement ALL THE WAY OUT, then he says he was going for the guy behind him!
Dude won't pimp my vote this election year, and I hope nobody else is that silly.

    GRAND TOTAL: 16,928,770 Obama / 9,122,079 McCain

Some states are missing from the list. I did not include the votes of any states where one party held a primary and the other party held a non-head count caucus, because that is like comparing apples to oranges -- you can't fairly say that one or the other won. If you add all the votes, Obama is close to 18,000,000 and McCain is around 9,400,000.

Just think, Obama bested McCain like this, even though he was splitting the vote with his formidable opponent, Clinton, who walked away with half of the Democratic electorate.

The next time someone tells you that "Obama can't win the general election" you might want to refer them to these results.

Only a couple of problems with your numbers here.
      1. Obama wasn't running agains't McCain (I guess you didnt feel that was important)
      2. Reps crossed lines to try to swing the vote to Obama in order to have the weakest candidate on the ticket.

EVERY news source has repeatedly reported this for the last 4 months. Why did you choose to leave this out of your post?

What a great morning it is!!!!!! Obama is up by 5 points in the national GE polls. It looks like Democrats are uniting. Be warned fellow Obama supporters......the attacks are going to get a lot stronger. Don't lose your cool, and don't be duped by McCain supporters pretending to be otherwise.

    LET THE LANDSLIDE BEGIN!!!!!!!!!

If you have nothing to hide, what attacks could you be afraid of?

      Paranoid
The key feature of this subtype of schizophrenia is the combination of false beliefs (delusions) and hearing voices (auditory hallucinations), with more nearly normal emotions and cognitive functioning (cognitive functions include reasoning, judgment, and memory). The delusions of paranoid schizophrenics usually involve thoughts of being persecuted or harmed by others or exaggerated opinions of their own importance, but may also reflect feelings of jealousy or excessive religiosity. The delusions are typically organized into a coherent framework. Paranoid schizophrenics function at a higher level than other subtypes, but are at risk for suicidal or violent behavior under the influence of their delusions.

      Considered treatment?

Here we go again. McCain keeps saying that he did everything to find out what went wrong after Hurricane Katrina, but he actually voted TWICE to stop the Commission investigating Katrina.

Now, McCain wants to deny the people in Florida hurricane insurance. Florida has more hurricanes than any other state. They need that insurance. And a good, well- run insurance fund (as opposed to a bad, profit-based fund that does anything to avoid paying valid claims, like happened with Katrina) would save the government LOTS of money whenever we have hurricane disasters.

He says he is committed to saving the Everglades, but he voted against the bill protecting the Everglades. He says he voted against it because of pork-barrel spending in the bill. Honestly, when was the last time any politician voted against a bill because of the pork? The fact is, all bills have pork, and that is why allowing lobbyists to rule Washington is bad. It is the lobbys that add the pork, most of the time.

McCain thinks that most Americans aren't paying attention to what is going on in the world, and that he can take advantage of their ignorance. Sadly, he is right. It is up to us to get informed so we know what is going on and can hold politicians responsible for their actions.

McCain for change?! What a bunch of political nonsense. He has been in Washington for how many years and has not had any measurable impact. Now we're supposed to believe that he will make some great changes? Give me a break.

Just because the man has the misfortune of being shot down during the war and spending some time as a prisoner, people are willing to assume that he will make a good leader. Poppycock!

Doesn't that only apply to 65?

  • Posted By: blace613 @ 06/05/2008 5:33:12 PM

Excuse me, just because Joh McCain is older does not mean it is necessary to make "old" jokes. Have you not realized that many past presidents were older when elected such as: Reagan , Bush sr. , Eisenhower, Buchanan, Taylor.......

Rather be 3yrs old and have my whole life ahead of me then be rounding 80 and barely able to remember important facts about things. IMAGINE if McCain were to get into office, the stress of all the lies he'd have to tell combined with all the lies he has already told...he would not make it 2yrs before he'd be pushing daiseys...lol
BTW MaCain never said the bill was "NO GOOD" he said it was TOO MUCH and THE TROOPS DID NOT DESERVE IT, better chack your facts b!tch.

as a person that is voting for mccain, the question i have now and have had for 6 months is why has no one called no-bama on the 51 sec video he has that says he will disarm the united states, why is he allowed to continue with the "third term for bush" comments, yet i have heard exactly what he plans to change. i cannoto believe a person that sits in a racist filled, amercian hating church, accusing all who are not black of everything that has ever happen to a good race be blamed on the white person, when slavery began in africa by the leaders selling their own people to the europeans in the 1700's or before, how does that make it a us made problem, why are we blamed for everything. i do not see his appeal, thoughts or why he feels he deserves the commander in cheif position, he has not earned the right nor does he have the skill or knowledge to be there. anyone can promise change to get where the want, then once they are there do the exact oposite of what they say.. i also know he is not going to have billary run with him, i do not see that happening, if he does then thank god we have mccain.

A 51 second video where Obama says he is going to disarm the United States ... hmm ... maybe no one has called him on it because it isn't true. thezilla? As in Bridezilla?

    • Posted By: dking312 @ 06/07/2008 12:48:19 AM

Mccain can govern YOUR WORLD. DO you realize how "not with the people" this guy REALLY IS??

    • Posted By: Nins @ 06/06/2008 11:20:07 AM

Thezilla, you have it all wrong. Obama does NOT want to disarm America, and he actually wants to increase the military budget because he thinks that our weapons and equipment are worn and outdated, and our troops are being over-worked with multiple combat tours.

Obama DOES believe in nuclear disarmament in as much as he is against the production of new nuclear warheads by the USA or other nations. He DOES believe in using nuclear powered submarines, and in nuclear power plants.

If you want to know where Obama stands on these issues, read his book Audacity of Hope, which has amazing stories about his trips to Russia's decaying nuclear facilities, and their nuclear disarmament programs.

Did you know that today McCain announced that he "hates war." If McCain hates war so much, why does he want to bomb Iran and stay in Iraq for 100 years? He knows the war is unpopular and is trying to make himself look like a dove. He is trying to re-write history. Everybody knows McCain is a hawk. Now he's pretending to "hate" war.

At the same time, he tells you : "You should be very, very afraid. The world is full of terrorists and only hawks like me can keep you safe." Does anybody else see the irony of this? He's playing a double game.

Besides, it was the hawks (like Cheney, et al) who got us into this mess, and it's the tough diplomats (like Obama) who will get us out. Hawks make you unsafe because they incite anger and war-like behavior by running around threatening people. Diplomats make you safe because they diffuse anger and open new ways for other people to express their greivances without war or terrorism. For example, look what Kennedy did with the Bay of Pigs incident. The Soviet Union had nuclear missiles in Cuba, aimed at Miami and Washington DC. Kennedy got them to remove their missiles, peacefully. He had lots of other options. He could have attacked Cuba or attacked Russia. He could have started WW III. But he didn't. He used TOUGH diplomacy, the same kind that Obama is advocating.

      It works.

Millions of American HATE their jobs but continue to show up day in and day out. Ever wondered why? BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE DONE. Is it really that hard to understand?

        • Posted By: HDavidson @ 06/13/2008 2:37:17 PM

McA$$ is not "doing the JOB" he is not over there, and for that WHY is his son stateside, if there is such an important "JOB" to do, McCains son should NEVER return until it's done, come on John, show us the "Americans" you and your son pretend to be, send his little a$$ back until ALL OTHERS ARE HOME, how's that sound to you?
McCain does not have to fight the war for oil he hates, so he is ok with killing other peoples children for it and bringing his son home...WTF!?

Beware of a couple that has stood in the shadow of and embraced such illustrious group as that infamous Wright, *** hateful Louis Farrakhan, et al. This is what America needs as her leader?! I think to resign my citizenship if he gets in. God saves us all!

    • Posted By: bleeker @ 06/08/2008 2:12:31 PM

uninformed and small minded people maybe should consider whether the ideals of America are really not for them and 'resign' (sic. renounce) their citizenship, because your God doesn't seem to be able to 'save' you on this one, he'll be out of the WhiteHouse in January....

    A MUST READ, FOLKS!!!

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/iraq_usa_intelligence_dc

"President George W. Bush and his top policymakers exaggerated Saddam Hussein's links to terrorism and ignored doubts among intelligence agencies about Iraq's arms programs as they made their case for war, a Senate committee reported on Thursday.

The Senate intelligence committee said in a study that major Bush administration statements that Iraq had a partnership with al Qaeda and provided it with weapons training were unsupported by intelligence, and sometimes contradicted it."

THIS IS WHERE MCCAIN STANDS. THIS IS WHAT HE IS SUPPORTING!!! DOESN'T SOUND LIKE CHANGE TO ME!!

It's a wrap, people!!!! For all Repubs out there unsatisfied w/ the GOP brand, vote LIBERTARIAN!!!

  • Posted By: pbr90k @ 06/05/2008 11:06:50 AM

If American loyalty alone decided the 2008 election, McCain would win hands down, and Obama's wife and Reverend Wright would be blameworthy for Obama's loss.

Republicans have at least a dozen if not more major criticisms to an Obama election-winning Presidency, and they will use them all, and more, legitimately, to retain the White House. It is not the finest hour for Democrats to embrace Obama and his grand oratorial ability, whether he's black or has blue polka dots, neither of which affect his flaws in a major two party election.

A vote for McCain is NOT a vote for Hillary. A vote for McCain is a vote for Geo. W Bush.

There are many McCain supporters on this blog posing as Clintonites, urging you to vote for McCain. There are other McCain supporters trying hard to stir up resentment between the pro-Clinton and the pro-Obama Democrats. All of them are trying to manipulate your mind. Don;t forget that your mind belongs to you.

Clintonites everywhere have to ask themselves some hard questions. I know that Obama has been your rival in the Democratic primary, but it pays to know who your real allies are. If you voted for Clinton because you believe in her policies, you would NEVER vote for McCain, whose political stand is OPPOSITE to Clinton's. Even if your don't like Obama or you are ticked off at the fact that Hillary didn't get the nomination, remember, it is not about who you like as much as it is about WHAT they will do in office. Obama's plans and politics are almost identical to Hillary's. Voting for McCain because you are upset that Clinton lost is like shooting yourself in the foot. Do your REALLY want four more years of a failed economy? Do you REALLY want the recession to become another Great Depression?

I am a Republican who decided to vote for Obama, partly because I think he is a great candidate, but even more so because I am very concerned about the economy. Early in the race when it wasn't certain who was going to win the Dem nomination, I used to say that if Obama lost I would vote for McCain. My reason for that was that I'm a Republican, but also because I hated the Bill Clinton drama years, and I just couldn't warm up to Hilary's personality. But two months ago I realized that if Clinton gets the nomination, I would have to vote for her, even though I really don't like her, because voting for McCain would be so dangerous for our economy, which is on the brink of ruin.

I really respected Huckabee's morals and loved his personality, but when I thought it through, I couldn't see him as President, he just wasn't strong enough to tackle the problems facing us today. McCain is in the same boat. You may not like Obama, but you have to admit he ran a great campaign and has some serious chops as a politician. He can get the job done. Hillary could have too. And who knows, she may be the next VP, and in 2016 the first woman President.
