I think Senator Clinton should meet Gen Clarke & Evan Bayh, and have them be the representative of her policies & have Sen Obama pick one of them as his VP. I think that will be the best resolution ofr us & both Gen Clarke & Mr Bayh have the support which we need to strengthen the Democratic win in November. Sen McCains worst nightmare is a Democratic Unity & we need to give hima big defeat.
Sen Clinton is too big of a personality to be a VP, after this superb fight she have won herselves a great place in Democratic history & with Sen Kennedy fighting his battle with the cancer, she is the perfect candidate to fill those shoes of leadership for our party. I think most Hillary Supporters would agree that Sen Clinton will be able to guide policy much better in Senate than as a VP. With Obama in White House & Sen Clinton inthe Senate I think we can get Universal Healthcare & our beloved boys & girls out of the harms way in Iraq.

      Interesting concept.

I think what I want to see on Thursday or Friday, is Sen Clinton, Sen Obama meeting Sen Kennedy at his hospital. We need a strrong personality in Senate & there is none better than Sen Clinton.

I just think if Hillary were his VP they'd have a better chance of getting elected. I dont' want McCain in office!

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/04/2008 3:13:41 AM

True, it might bring the democratic party together much faster, but then I cant picture that the role of VP spot is what Hillary is looking to fulfill. Although she loves this country and people in it to the degree she does she may do it for the good of getting the democratic party back in the White House. I dont know. Cant picture Hillary just standing by peaking over Obamas shoulder. She would be in his face too much, not in a bad way cuz she is such a tenacious person and focused on making accomplishments one after the other. But Im sure Obama wouldnt like it. At least I cant picture it. LOL. But hey, Im for it if Hillary is.

  • Posted By: Imogine @ 06/04/2008 3:09:54 AM

I don't care I just don't want it to be McCain in the White House! And I think if Hillary were to run for VP along with Obama...they'd get in office.

  • Posted By: po5864 @ 06/04/2008 2:21:38 AM

One of the posts said Hillary could carry the traditional and swing states if she was on the ticket. What other potential nominees could do that also? I've already said Gov Bill Richardson would be a good choice. I also saw Gov Kathleen Sebelius' name mentioned below. Any other ideas?

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/04/2008 3:00:15 AM

As a Hillary supporter, my vote would be John Edwards. Not Hillary cuz she will be prepping up to run for President in 2012 and does not need to ride Obamas coat tails running as a second fiddle VP. Although it is not a horrible idea cuz if Obama got into the White House, both Bill and Hillary wouldnt let him get away with anything. Hahahaha. Can you picture Barack and his (er) wife sitting down for breakfast with the Clintons or vice versa? A nitemare. Go Hilliary 2012 !!.

I've been suspecting this much for quite a while. HRC wants to be asked so she can turn it down. If she had any class or grace, she would bow out immediately and throw her support behind Obama, no strings attached. Which, of course, means that what she will actually do is anyone's guess.

It's not that she is a woman. It's that she is "that" woman.

    • Posted By: democrat for life @ 06/04/2008 1:00:59 AM

Knowing her, she says that she wants to be asked so that she can turn it down, but would , in fact, accept the veep role and then he would be stuck with her.....Don't do it Obama!!!

      • Posted By: Liberal Lady @ 06/04/2008 2:56:57 AM

Ha, if not 'stuck' with her we may all be stuck with McCain. You think that is preferable?

  • Posted By: monyneen @ 06/03/2008 11:43:15 PM

We women will REMEMBER in NOVEMBER > NEVER obama . Hillary should run on the independent ticket . Mccain or Clinton in 08 . obama sucks and his wife as first lady ugh .

    • Posted By: democrat for life @ 06/04/2008 1:33:42 AM

Yes we women will remember in November. Any real Democratic woman will remember that she is a Democrat before she is a Hillary supporter (if she ever was one). She will remember that America comes before personal prejudices. She will remember the past eight years. She will remember that it cost her $10 in gasoline to drive to the grocery store to spend $6 on a gallon of milk. She will remember that her father, brother, sister, daughter, child is fighting a senseless was in Iraq. She will remember that she doesn't want the government to legislate personal decisions about her body. She will remember it all and she will cast her vote for the Democratic nominee.

My nomination for best rebuttal of the evening. Thanks for putting into perspective exactly what is at stake in this next election.

  • Posted By: Earlyriser77@hotmail.com @ 06/04/2008 2:23:01 AM

Key issue here is that the democrats have elected Senator Obama by the Super Delegates (Electoral College- start thinking) and not by the popular vote. This means that on the general election the Electoral College too can and may pick McCain regardless of the popular vote!!

Hey, the democratrs are giving the Electoral College (Big Money) a license to steal!!

I will not vote for Senator Obama even if Senator Clinton is his VP. I will not vote for Senator Obama because I do not want him elected.

I will vote for Senator Clinton as long as she is on top of the ticket, with or without Senator Obama as her VP.

I will vote for Senator Obama in about 4 to 8 years; I figure, by then, he will at least have learned how to lie well.

I do not trust him at all.

I will campaign and vote for Senator McCain if the Super Delegates let Senator Obama run for president.

    • Posted By: Aeddon's mom @ 06/04/2008 2:27:55 AM

Your math needs work -Clinon only wins by a popular vote when counting states SHE intitially agreed to punish even before Obama declared canidacy.

Its like changing rules in the middle of a game and speaking of distrust. This is a woman who changes her spots to get the votes she wants, she voted for the war because she thought it would get her votes.

Every lawyer I know, knew it was illegal from the get go, She was at the heart of 3 major scandals and that was just as first lady. Who would want such a conniver for president. You go vote for McCain - he needs more non-thinking losers like you.

      • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/04/2008 2:35:59 AM

Clintonian Syndrome. I think we need a vaccine to combat it. Where Salk when you need him. : -)

    • Posted By: leepdx @ 06/04/2008 2:34:21 AM

Popular vote has never decided an election and Hillary's is questionable at best. Take the most unfair election (Michigan) and the numbers are not there and don't forget the Republicans disguising themselves as Democratics to get Hillary the nomination.

  • Posted By: ranga91 @ 06/03/2008 11:25:05 PM

As someone who is not white, I can certainly state this country is not yet ready for an African American president. Even though he has support in public, when the people vote in private, they will not pick him, .

    • Posted By: Snorkeldorf @ 06/03/2008 11:53:08 PM

For the sake of our country, I hope you're wrong. My fear, however, is that you are oh so right.

Still, I don't believe that we should not choose our best candidate in an effort to pander to the basest element of our society that cannot see past the color of his skin. It's a matter of principle and we should not compromise our principles.

      • Posted By: EKS25 @ 06/04/2008 2:33:37 AM

No you should choose somebody who actually can win. Not everybody dislikes Obama because of his color, it is way too simplistic assumption.

I am SO DISAPPOINTED IN HILLARY CLINTON!!!!! This was truly a historic night. Hillary was all about me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me,me. SHAME ON YOU HILLARY.
I will be one 50 year old white female who will not be encouraging Obama to put you as VEEP

The MEDIA NEEDS TO CLOSE YOU DOWN NOW......IT'S Over......I am READY FOR CHANGE

    • Posted By: EKS25 @ 06/04/2008 2:29:24 AM

Why would she concede? she has time till Denver. The delegates have the right to change their mind till the vote there.

    • Posted By: tetts88 @ 06/03/2008 11:44:41 PM

you don't actually believe obama will change anything. you think she was all about me what speech did you listen to obama's speech was more that way

      • Posted By: democrat for life @ 06/04/2008 1:50:51 AM

Obama didn't talk about himself. He talked about America after he praised the Clintons and even McCain. Hillary had herself announced as the next President of the United States and then talked about how great she is.

So exactly what speach did YOU listen to?

    • Posted By: ladyj @ 06/04/2008 1:25:59 AM

I agree with you 100 percent. If she was truly for the democratic party she would have conceded to Obama and joined him in uniting the party. Instead she blabbered on about herself and what she wanted to do. She, Bill and Chelsa should just go on and ride into the sunset.

  • Posted By: Ron Paul For Pope @ 06/04/2008 2:27:33 AM

Obama could transcend party lines and generations by picking Phyllis Schlafly to be his VP.

  • Posted By: leepdx @ 06/04/2008 2:24:29 AM

Hillary VP, no thank you, her inability to concede defeat and her continuing effort to undermine Obama's victory shows she does not care about what's best for the democratic party. She is the definition of blind ambition. Popular vote is debateable also as I know first hand that some Republicans switched parties to vote for her in our primary here. The Republicans want McCain to run against her in the fall to strengthen their base supporters who have long disliked Hillary. Obama is the better person and has handled the primary process with exceptional calm and dignity.

  • Posted By: po5864 @ 06/03/2008 11:46:10 PM

As an African-American and a Democrat, I would not want to see HRC as the vice-presidential nominee. She is too polarizing and I don't believe she has it it her to be number 2, working for anyone. She wants to be number 1 and if she was the vice-president, it would all be about her posturing for her run as a presidential nominee. I truly believe she does NOT want the position. If she accepted it, the team would definitely win. Then what happens four years later? She would have a hard time running against the guy she has been supporting as his VP. I believe she wants to sit on the sidelines and in a couple or three years, she will make another run for the presidency, criticizing Obama's record and telling everyone that the country would have been better off if they had voted for her in the first place.

    • Posted By: EKS25 @ 06/04/2008 2:24:25 AM

Don't be ridiculous, Obama is a lot more polarizing than Hillary. The party was in pretty good shape before he became a frontrunner and "united" us all. We should have known, because Bush in 2000 was a media darling and wanted to be a uniter too and look how great that worked out.

  • Posted By: L_o-v-e-y @ 06/04/2008 2:16:27 AM

if obama does not take hillary as a vp i as a devoute democtate will NOT vote for him. My vote will go to mccain sorry hillary is my choice not obama what happened to WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES.... hillary got more people votes and i am appauled that the super delligates get to choose our nex president we send people over to foreign countries to make sure their votes are counted and make them have honest elections what happened to american i ant a president that is proud of his country and a president that will stand for the pledge of alligence and wear a flag pin on his lapel obama is only doing it now for votes REMEMBER WHAT HIS NAME IS SORRY OBAMA MY VOTE IS NOT FOR YOU !!!

  • Posted By: baddogbad @ 06/04/2008 2:15:21 AM

Fineman's work is more like drug-addled fantasy. It is Obama that wants to offer Hillary the VP, and her to refuse it, so Obama can claim to Hillary supporters that he tried, he really, really, tried. Political salve, that's all. And Hillary would never be VP, not because she was First Lady for 8 agonizing years, but because she can help undermine Obama more easily from the outside at this time. That could change over the next few weeks to the point she would take the VP slot, but only if it seems to her the best way to sink Obama is by being close enough to knife his inner tube. Hillary can't be president, ever (and she desperately wants to be), if Obama wins in November. She will do to Obama what Bill so skillfully did to her. She will support him to death. President McCain is Hillary's only hope to ever seeing the WH again, and that would be in 2013. She hopes.

Quit wasting my time Fineman with sophomoric analysis. If I wanted breathless hyperventilation over dem prospects I will take it with the varnish off and watch Olberman.

Somebody needs to commit this crazed woman. Haven't we had enough of her? Please Democrats, come out and boot her out of the party. She is embarassing.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/04/2008 2:15:09 AM

Gosh, your candidate won the democratic nomination and that isnt enough for you to lay off Hillary. Im beginning to think that there are actual people out there (mostly Obama people) who have a mental illness when it comes to obsessive rantings about the Clintons. Think I'll name it: Clintonian Syndrome. : - ) or Clintonitis

  • Posted By: thinklike chess @ 06/04/2008 1:44:58 AM

Obama would be lucky to get Hillary as VP, it would ensure a win. He needs her even though he may not want her. She does not need him so much. If he loses she could run again in 4 years, though the shift toward youth would be against her.I think she would prefer McCain personally but not philosophically, anyway.

    • Posted By: democrat for life @ 06/04/2008 2:14:44 AM

Not putting Hillary on the ticket may cause him to lose some dem votes and some independents. Putting her on the ticket will cause him to lose cross over republicans, some independents, and some dems. Hmmm....think he'd be losing more with her on the ticket than without

  • Posted By: mitch1965 @ 06/03/2008 11:01:41 PM

He dosent need to choose her. He dosent need Bill wandering around the white house trying to run the show or steal his spotlight.

He doesn't need Bill "having cigars" with the interns

    http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/05/bush-mccain-embrace/

Look, I'm all for letting the Lady have a few minutes. This was a damn close primary. And heck, Obama probably needs a few days to wallow in both the happiness of success and the worry about the general election. I think they both need time take a nap and and a deep breathe, figure out where they are and what's next.

Heck, I think we all need a couple days to calm down and cool down too. I think I'm going to forgo blogging tomorrow and go shoe shopping or some other ridiculously mindless activity.

But I do realize that DEMOCRATIC America has to be feeling like the Eli and Peyton Manning's parents when they have to watch an NFL play off game between their sons.

In the beginning of this immensely long primary there was so much joy and hope amongst ALL democrats. We were going to CHANGE things, but good, by god! And so we eliminated all of the "standard candidates" almost immediately.

We left ourselves in an amazing position of having two GREAT candidates, both minorities in different ways. And we knew then that we were going to GET the change we so badly wanted.

We just never really realized the danger. That because these two candidates were different, were each special, each represented the hopes and dreams of millions. And every one of us wanted to fight tooth and nail, day and night, as hard as we could for our hopes and dreams.

And now a part of our problem is that an Obama supporters dream has to come at the expense of a Hillary supporters dream, or the reverse. Because there just can't be two democratic candidates running against McCain in November.

As an Obama supporter, I respect Hillary's supporters. I respect HRC, she ran a hell of a campaign, facing down sexism, and Bill's mouth (sorry, but that guy has hoof and mouth disease sometimes.), and grueling days, and endless nights, and the rollercoaster of victory, defeat, victory again.

Just as I hope HRC supporters can respect Obama supporters. And can hopefully respect Obama too. He ran a hell of a campaign, facing down racism, the Rev. wright's mouth (another hoof and mouther if ever there was one.), and grueling days, and endless nights, and the rollercoaster of victory and defeat, and victory again.

This primary was closer than any other, ever.

We, the bruised and confused democratic voters, can recognize that this was a clash of TITANS from which, regretably only one can emerge a winner, and make this into the most AMAZING primary ever, that leads on to the most amazing democratic WIN in November.

Or we, the bruised and confused democratic voters, can decide that it was a petty and unfair contest of petty and unfair politicians, and can make this into the most DIVISIVE primary ever, that leads directly to the WORST LOSS in democratic history.

But this is up to us. Not Clinton. Not Obama. US.

We have to find a way out of our own anger and into our future. And heck, take a few days, I plan to.

      Very well said.

    • Posted By: Snorkeldorf @ 06/04/2008 2:06:17 AM

I love your sentiments, but do have one nit to pick. Hillary Clinton is by no stretch of the imagination a "minority". Last I checked, there were a few million more women in this country than men. Regardless, as a democrat who would vote for either Obama or Clinton running against McCain, the sentiments bandied about by both candidates' supporters regarding voting for McCain rather than voting for the other candidate are extremely disconcerting. However, I trust that once the highly-charged emotions engendered in any close political race have calmed down, cooler heads will prevail and the vast majority of these people will come to the realization that the only way out of this morass Bush has led us into is to vote against the candidate who fails to acknowledge just how much trouble we really are in. I also trust that Hillary Clinton will, sooner rather than later, offer her complete, unqualified support for Barack Obama and urge her followers to do the same. Hopefully, I am not just being overly gullible.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 06/04/2008 1:50:44 AM

Thank you, thevail. First I want to congratulate you and other Obama supporters on your candidate winning the democratic nomination. I know how passionate Obama supporters are of Barack and the same is the case with us Hillary supporters. Second, I wanted to let you know that you wrote a great post, more noteworthy than alot of the articles that Newsweek writers post on this site. Thanks for bringing some sanity into the post primary election phase. I think Ill call my friends and go out to dinner tomorrow nite and relax eating and drinking and not thinking about politics at least for one day. Thanks again. Respectfully, a Hillary supporter.

  • Posted By: frjiles1 @ 06/03/2008 11:07:32 PM

I agree, Clinton doesn't want to be Obama's VP. I also personally don't think she is concerned about who Obama picks!

I think she has another agenda!

    • Posted By: democrat for life @ 06/04/2008 2:04:51 AM

I think she is delusional and actually thinks she can win as an independent because of few of her fanatical supporters are telling her she can.
