    TYLER - The price of oil swelled to another record high Monday morning - before dropping back. It almost hit $140 a barrel - but then fell 25 cents. It appears - a recent increase in oil output from Saudi Arabia -- is not driving down crude prices. Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, who started a bipartisan group called "American Solutions for Winning the Future" held little back at the Texas Republican Convention. He wants to use American solutions to change to the U.S. energy policy.

    Simply put - he's fed up with Congress: "The problem is not big oil or the foreigners," said Speaker Gingrich. "The problem is not the Saudis. The problem is getting Congress to do it's job." And that job, he says, is to start using the energy we have. "Congress outlaws every conceivable energy source," said Speaker Gingrich. Gingrich is making his case for domestic drilling by launching a campaign with Actor Chuck Norris, with the slogan: "Drill here, Drill now, Pay less." The campaign is urging Congress to do something now to bring down gas prices. Speaker Gingrich also has thoughts on speculators. "It's people who are betting the U.S. is too dumb to produce (its own oil)."


    He sides with East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert -- when it comes to speculators and drilling. "If you began selling off two million barrels a day...we can pump out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It would immediately bring down the price of oil." Speaker Gingrich proposes selling off half of the reserve - now. "Do it suddenly..without telling anybody in advance and punish every speculator."The very speculators, he says, that are betting against America."

    America has ALREADY voted for change! They were going show Bush in 2006! And we sure got CHANGE!

    Before Democrats controlled Congress:

    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high.

    2) Regular unleaded gasoline was $2.19 a gallon.

    3) Unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1) Consumer confidence plummet.

    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $4.00 a gallon.

    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase).

    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses).

    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars; 1% of American homes are now in foreclosure.

    6) Oil was 63 dollars a barrel the day before the newest congress convened. It closed last Friday at 126 dollars a barrel. That is doubled for those with fuzzy math.

    7) Economic Growth for the 4th quarter of 2006 in GDP was 3.5 percent.

    8)1st Quarter 2008 0.6 percent.


    Remember it's Congress that makes laws, not the President. The President has to work with what is handed to the Administration.

    Almost one year has passed since Obama made his vow to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that abortion would be the first priority of his administration.

    "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act," Obama said in his July, 2007, speech to abortion advocates worried about the increase of pro-life legislation at the state level.

    The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is legislation Obama has co-sponsored along with 18 other senators that would annihilate every single state law limiting or regulating abortion, including the federal ban on partial birth abortion.

Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama???s aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. Election law. I think the Gov. Of California would be very insterested in knowing this if Obama were elected President without being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, and it would set precedence.     Comment: The 14th Amendment
    The first official written explanation of American citizenship was included in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution (1868). Section 1 of this amendment declares that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." The wording of this amendment places national citizenship before state citizenship. In other words, an American is first a citizen of the United States and then a citizen of the state in which he or she lives. Citizens are entitled to the rights granted by both the national government and their own state's government.

    The 14th Amendment was passed to guarantee citizenship to blacks who were freed from slavery after the Civil War (13th Amendment, 1865). The amendment made the rule of jus soli (place of birth) a law for all U.S. citizens. This means that any child born in the United States becomes a citizen at birth, even if its parents are aliens. (However, the rule does not apply to children born to foreign diplomats or United Nations officials.)

    The 14th Amendment does not include jus sanguinis. American citizenship acquired at birth in a foreign nation is usually determined by the law that is in effect at the time the child is born. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, amended in 1965, 1976, and 1978, gives the requirements.

    McCain was asked today if he had any idea when the troops would come home, his response was "That's not too important, what's important is the casulties of our troops.

    families are stating McCain should no better than to make such statement, it is clear that McCain will keep our troops in the war for quite sometime. With no exit plan he continues to respond by saying they will stay the course. Finally, John McCain was speaking with a group TODAY and tried to quote Obama and was way off base.

    There is no way this man will ever receive my vote, my vote will make a difference in our government and I pray we have a democrat President in office to help get us back on track.

    Comment: Comment: HRC supporters - while I haven't been as successful as I hoped on this site, I have found many allies on other sites including noquarterusa.net and CNN. I'd like to rename our project: Operation Respect. The goal is to go after those who have used vile and malicious comments against Hillary and make sure there are consequences for them - in particular, the folks at Newsweek, MSNBC and their advertisers.

    Initially, we just need to ensure we are not boosting rates at MSNBC and Newsweek sees their subscriptions drop (which will lower advertising revenue). Thereafter, we will go after the advertisers (just like the right wing has done successfully in some of their campaigns).. I will be back in touch with boycott details. Thanks to those of you who have added ideas and better tactics than I initially proposed.

    Obama supporters - I don't think Barack is behind any of this nor is my anger directed at him (although some of you are really pissing me off calling HRC supporters, dumb, ignorant, stupid, etc.). Please stay out of this and let HRC supports redress our grievances with the people that are really behind our anger.

    HRC supporters - I know many of you are angry at Obama. CNN polls show that 17% of HRC supporters will vote for McCain and 22% plan to stay home. I understand. The GE is 5 months away.     Sharenews and other HRC supporters - it hit me tonight that we can do something constructive to show our displeasure regarding the outcome of the Democratic primaries. Unfortunately, I saw Keith Olbermann say that if Barack loses, it's all Hillary's fault. I was in absolute disbelief. I've sent MSNBC e-mails, etc., but to no avail.

    So, here's my idea. Let's set up Operation Payback (Nins - you get credit for the name after thinking I was involved in Operation Chaos). As of today, I've cancelled my subscription to Newsweek and will NEVER watch MSNBC again. My relatives have done the same. If we hit these media outlets who have so mistreated Hillary in the pocketbook, maybe we can at least address some of the anger we're all feeling.

    Obama supporters - do us all a favor and stay out of this with putdown comments. I think that this gives HRC supporters something we can do that is constructive and places blame (at least from my perspective) where it is due.

    Hillary supporters - what do you think? If we pass this along to our friends, families and post it everywhere, I think we can make a difference. Both to salvage some of the hits Hillary has taken and to make sure that the next female candidate gets treated fairly.

      As an Obama supporter, I am going to be respond - but not with a putdown. First, the idea that if Obama loses it is all Hillary's fault is just one person's opinion. Personally, I think it is too early to make such statements. Let's not kid ourselves, Hillary has the power to damage Barack's bid for the White House - does she have enough to actually cost him the election, I don't know, but she could definitely do some damage. The question is will she? I think she is above that, but only time will tell.

      Setting aside the debate as to whether or not Hillary was treated unfairly by the media (I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree on that topic) press boycotts have been tried over a number of topics and have never been effective.

      If you really want to make a change, I think you need to focus on the DNC. Regardless of the final results, I was never happy with the leadership - or lack there of - provided by the DNC. First, cacuses should have been replaced with primaries a long time ago - they are relics of the past. Second, the original decision to strip Michigan and Florida of all their delegates was a bad one - especially, in the case of Michigan, were the decision was made by a Republican controlled state legislature. There should have been a better answer. And when it became clear Florida and Michigan were going to be an issue during the nominating process, the DNC should have took action a lot earlier to come up with a resolution - I think they took the coward's way out and waited until the end of May, hoping that one candidate would have a big enough lead that it wouldn't matter. That's not leadership in my book.

      Both candidates were saddled with the same problems that this lack of leadership created, so I think the playing field was still fair. But it did provide a greater opportunity to those not happy with the final results to cry fowl and believe their candidate had been screwed (we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one two).

      So if you really want to make a difference, I would focus on the DNC.

      If the DNC is going to lead the party, then it needs leaders - and right now I don't see the current leadership falling into that category.

        Dear ZigZag. You can call caucuses "relics of the past" if you want to, but the past that they are relics of is the earliest Greek democracy, which is what the founding fathers modeled our government on.

        Me personally, I LOVE caucuses. The idea that a bunch of people get together in a room and discuss all the candidates, vote, debate more and then vote again, that is AMAZING. That really is Democracy, with everyone getting a chance for their voice to be heard. Also, everybody in the room knows what the count really was, so there is less chance for election fraud. I think it is a great method of determining candidates.

        Just got to say also that your posts are fantastic -- your clever humor really makes me laugh! Keep up the good work.

      Dear Dreffein, As you know, I'm an Obama supporter, and on this one I can only agree with you.

      If Olbermann really did say that, and he said it since Wednesday when Clinton started showing public support for Obama, then shame on him! Keith is a little too rabid for me, even when I agree with him.

      Canceling your subscription to Newsweek is a great idea, even if you like their magazine, since you can get it for free on-line. You are right, Newsweek has been very pro-Obama, which conversely has made them anti-Clinton. I am curious to see how they will proceed now. It is time for them to start cracking out some pro-Clinton pieces -- Hillary deserves it, since she has really stepped up to the plate for the Democratic party.

      I changed from my MSN webpage months ago. Drooling Chris Mathews turned me against them for their treatment of hillary and I'm never tuning them in again. Randi Rhodes did the same thing and continues to do it. A boycott is fine with me. I voting for Obama for a couple of reasons Healthcare for those who unlike myself, don't have it and abolishment of the tax breaks for the rich. The main reason though is a moral one. I supported hillary because I know she would have gotten our troop out of Iraq. How in the world could i vote for John mcCain who has vowed to send thousand more of our young women and men to die in a war that he knows was started using cooked up evidence? Those who give mcCain credit for his service and endurance as a POW should ask the question..Where was his courage when it was time to stand up to Bush and Cheney. McCain didn't have the guts to do it because it would have meant loss of support of his party's Conservative Wackos. I will not vote to send more soldiers to die in Iraq just to spite Obama. Those that do will have to answer for it one day.

        Hey Sharenews. My secretary added the totals for me, but I got the raw numbers from two websites (below). Of course, you can find it on any political tracking database as well -- the numbers are the same everywhere.

        The CNN site is easier to read but harder to use, because the candidates are on different pages, and you have to chose either all the states of one candidate, or all the candidates in one state. You have to keep jumping around to get all the data. The msn page gives all the info in one scroll down forever table.

        The blog I posted on this page had an error -- she forgot to add Obama's numbers for Virginia (623,141), so Obama's total actually is 16,978,770 (which I have corrected for future posts).

              She might be the happiest secretary in the world. Brings her baby to work, gets free massage once a month (a company policy for every desk worker), along with a great salary and benefits. And she gets flex time pretty much whenever she needs it. Although she is my only personal secretary and no one could ever replace her, our company has system whereby everyone is crossed trained for at least one other position, which allows us to be a lot more flexible with vacations and other types of leave. It is also good for the employees, because they have not only the skills they came in with, but new ones we provide a free education for, and when they rotate into someone else's job they get a better understanding of the corporation as a whole. We have very little attrition and very little burn out.

    I don't think the DNC needs change. The system of who gets the early primaries does. Maybe a roting system where other states get to participate early. What claim does Iowa or new Hampshire have on being first? Tradition, well tradition doesn't fly with the rest of the states that want recognition. This year Iowa and New Hampshire got what they deserved. Hell Puerto Rico got more coverage. Just put together a fair system that gives everyone a shot at some headlines.

    One more comment on the spitting chris mathews and randi rhodes. They spread the hate because they had decided early on the Barack was their candidate. They didn't have to do it. Barack's campaign did want them to do it. These lowlife commentators are the scum of the earth and thrive on destroying a persons reputation for the sake of ratings. They're not unique by any stretch. It is just nastier when MSNBC or Fox does it. Fox at least is preaching to their choir. MSNBC has preached to half of theirs and the other half will retaliate.

        yep, but in fairness there hasn't been the outcry to change it. The answer is probably going to be three super tuesdays with a rotation between the states.

        it's worth noting that the nominee has the say over who will be the chairman of the DNC and Barack has chosen Howard Dean. Dean has made a great comeback considering the job that the Republicans have done on him with the replay of his hyperbole moments. He's a hard worker and what the party needs.

    Concerned Citizen, you really shouldn't talk about Obama voting "Present" when he was in the Illinois State Senate, a body where voting Present is a commonly accepted practice among all the Senators. You are making me just itch to tell the world the truth about McCain's voting record (or lack thereof).

    In the first session of the 110th Congress (2007), McCain holds the dubious honor of missing, by a wide margin, more votes than any other Senator save one. The only one who missed more? That would be Senator Tim Johnson, who was recovering from a brain hemorrhage.

    The Washington Post has a database that tracks vote missed in the Senate. McCain missed a whopping 261 of 468 votes, about 56%. And it not because he wasn't there in the building. He refuses to vote on any bill that is controversial or that he might be criticized for. Consequently, he votes on almost all of the silly votes (like "Name a Daisy Day") but fails to be in the room when really important stuff is going down, like votes concerning the war in Iraq. Senator Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader became so angry with McCain about this that he took him task for it right on the Senate floor, saying "Senator McCain has spent considerable time defending the President on Iraq, but has only managed to show up for four of the last fourteen Iraq votes."

    In case you think I made that up, I will give you a reference: "McCain Missed Votes on Iraq Triggers Reid Rebuke" published in The Hill, May 17, 2007.

    You may be asking why would McCain not want to vote on Iraq? Because he already knew then that he would be running for President, and he knew the war was increasingly unpopular, and he didn't want the Democrats to be able to point to his record and say "Look how he votes on Iraq."

    McCain has also missed important votes on national security, funding of law enforcement, equipment for firefighters, and of course, his most recent no-show, on giving veterans the GI Bill. In fact, McCain misses more than half of his votes.

    I could write at least five more blogs about how McCain is failing as a Senator by refusing to vote, giving lots of details. And my information is true, with references that can be verified. You write smears about Obama, take one true thing and amplify and distort it into a complete exaggeration, and offer no sources for your information.

    I promise you that every time you do that, i will respond with more true facts about John McCain, and as far as McCain is concerned, the truth hurts. I don't care if you criticize Obama or say that you don't like him, but make sure that the "facts" you use are correct or I will rebut them with REAL stuff about your candidate that will really make you wish you hadn't started this whole smear campaign against Obama.

How can the Obamabots forget that Hillary Clinton won more of the popular vote, she's won the key swing states a nominee must carry in a general election and also the fact that the DNC picked up and carried Obama across the finish line ? Obama has an ' empty " win. He's illegitimate in the eyes of everyone. The world sees this whole thing as a dictatorship or a 'banana republic' or something. So please, lets be real here and call a spade a spade.

Im looking forward to who Obama has on his ticket (no, Im not a pusher of her having to be on the ticket as I cant see Obama and Hillary working together; but if they both were game for her as VP Id like it, but still cant picture Hillary, Michelle, Barack and Bill sitting down for breakfast drinking coffee or tea and having idle chat. LOL).

    Just a general comment. In browsing (sorry folks, I have a life and don't have time to read ALL of the spew) the posts, I find one very common thread - you are all loyal to a political party regardless if they might share your views or not. In other words, the party leads you around. You all are fighting for a democrat in the white house - admirable considering the damage GWB has done. But I have not once seen any of you actually consider that anyone other than BHO or HRC might (admit it , there was a better candidate out there) be a much better president than any of the three you are blathering about. For my money (what little there is of it - thanks George) HRC was the least of the three evils. I will vote for the candidate I feel is best qualified to run this country, regardless of political party, it's called rational thinking. I suggest you set aside your blind followership and look before you leap. If you leap back to your devotion to party, OK, but at least you will have looked. The point being STOP BEING SHEEP, think for yourselves and stop letting a political party do your thinking for you. OPEN your minds people!

      I was a HRC supporter and felt she was a better candidate than BHO because she has had more experience. However she is no longer an option. I could not possibly vote for McCain because I am a left wing liberal. Pro-choice, Pro sex education as opposed to abstinence only, pro social medical care ( I lived in Germany for several years and felt their health care system worked well especially in a country where the middle class bears most of the financially burden for the country). So I am not a sheep, I am supporting the candidate who reflects my views. Not voting is not an option too many have worked to hard to earn me the right.

        I lived in Germany, Switzerland and France and got a taste of socialized healthcare myself. It sure was fun waiting when my young daughter needed to see a doctor. Waiting days to be seen while she was in pain with a broken arm after a ski trip, only to have the Doctor give her a couple of aspirin and tell her not to move it. Yep, socialized medicine sure is outstanding.... I suppose that's why so many of those Europeans who can afford it would rather pay the airfare to go to the US for needed treatment rather than be on a waiting list, esp those with potentionally life threatening conditions who would die while waiting to be seen. Oh yes, that medical system is definitely the best for all.... As for pro choice, pro sex education, etc... No, I am sorry but what you want is to be able to make stupid choices and not have to pay the fiddler after the dance. You want everything but be required to take no responsibility after your choices. Kind of like Obama when he said he didn't want his daughter to be "Punished" with a child if she had sex... Yes that is such a great attitude to have, especially in todays day in age with AIDS as a factor. Not much different than having the attitude of "Hey, I'd like to rob a bank and walk away with a few million dollars but not have to pay the consequences when the police catch me..." Not that I would ever expect such a left wing liberal to comprehend Ying/Yang, or every action has an opposing reation, or any other way you want to put it.

        I am not saying McCain is a great choice here. But in the world as it is today, one would think that our national security, finding ways to lower our taxes (so we can afford insurance and other things in life), would hit just a little higher on the priority list overwanting to have sex without having to "suffer" through a child.... But you are right, it is your right to vote for someone that shares your views. Using logic, common sence and sound reasoning may just be something to think about though...

          So I suppose it would have been better to watch your daughter suffer at home, knowing there was no place you could take her. Makes sense to me. As for taxes, we are all for lower taxes, but not to the exclusion of all else. One of the things the Republicans don't seem to understand is when you lower taxes, you also are suppose to lower spending. But oh no, not GWB and the Republicans - they like to lower taxes and increase spending. By the way, your daughter is going to be paying for that well into her retirement.

        Whoopee! Jump for joy! There is one among you that has actually THOUGHT the process through! You are one of the few who is not a sheep. You may disagree with some (not all my opinions, as is your right) but you have thought the process through. That is the only thing that we as responsible voters need to do. Don't vote blindly for a party - vote for who you honestly have thought out and researched and think can be the best leader.

        P.S. Never been to Germany but really want to go. Their healthcare system is a model for the world to emulate. If the country is anything like Austria and Hungary, it's got to be beautiful.

      There's nothing rational about your thinking. If you believe the president has a free hand to do whatever he/she pleases, without any influence from this/her party, you're pretty naive. The country is in bad shape, but can you imagine the shape it would be in if GWB really could have done whatever he wanted. Scary!
