No experience, that's actually kind of refreshing. Do you realize that the people who came up with this "United States of America" had actual jobs? I mean beyond collecting money from lobbyists and special interest groups. They actually did things besides suck wind! Generals, inventors, businessmen, writers (these guys/gals don't even write their own speeches. have you seen our illustrious president speak in front of people? he acts like his speech was just handed to him!), public office is an appointment, not a career. I am disgusted with the experienced rubes we "elect" into office. Sure, McCain has the credentials to be a psychopath, no one can take that from him, but Commander in Chief, gimme a break! As far as getting off the subject of RFK, what if he did become president? Let's see, we'd still be casting our votes in a system that doesn't count them, and we'd still be putting our faith in money-grubbing swine that pay lip service to keep us from revolting. Wake up people! Poor, poor idealism, jeez, everything can't be the way I want it. Who really cares? I, personally, (and I'm guessing a lot of people feel the same way) don't really care about what you think about your idealism or RFK, for that matter, ashes to ashes, as they say. That is the beauty of living here. We get the freedom to not give a damn about what anyone else believes. But, count the days my friends, these things will fall apart as time passes, with each succeeding dynasty, we will lose any piece of our individual identities that we hold dear. It doesn't matter who you voted for, something like 8 people in Congress voted against federal ID cards! Did you know that? Did you get a vote? Hopefully, when the day comes, we will have a merciful dictator, and a leniant police state. 2008 doesn't mean squat! The same subhuman group of ogres will hold the joystick and we'll all play the game until we're tired of talking about it, and blogging about it, and pissing and moaning about it! As long as you continue to see the priviledged as superior, don't expect to exceed, and as long as money is the ruling factor, don't expect any different, just go ahead and play the game. You lose!

wont'it be nice if by law all politians in both houses are allowed no more than two terms in offic and move on to allow younger ones in and make the world a better place instead of lies, confusion, terror? This June 2008 marked a historical change depending if we would allow it to work.

I was an idealistic young 32 year old to day Bobby died. I lost all of my idealism in that (third) death affecting us in the 60's, My idealism and excitement has been reborn as a 72 year old in this year's election campaign, and I am ready for Change, as Bobby would have brought us so long ago.

i'm with beep2525. but what if we were not devided in a two party system which I think could have it's consequences; the ones we are witnessing. "Boby was a man who had a united mind that could have led a nation united, not devided

I would like to know if and how he would have handled our gaseline crisis or if we would still have the same problem today

It goes back to we are letting the foreign land control us. If the White House and the EPA Committee would check the USA's resourses and plan an action policy to create protroleum and oil in our own country, we wouldn't be at the mercy. If the Gov. wouldn't allow Gas stations to play God and games and cause the Gas prices to go up. The average American can't even afford to drive to work, so what happens they quit, draw a check, foreign people get brought into the USA to fill these jobs, they send their money back to their country making our money market go down. Its actually cheaper to fly then to drive any long distant. Write your state rep. your senators your govenor and complain. Don't vote them back in. Stand up for what you beleive, be a voice, VOTE. ACT on your beleifs.

If you don't get the reaction you think is needed to start the problem solving situation then DO NOT VOTE THEM"THE PEOPLE WHO HOLD THESE OFFICES" BACK INTO THAT POSITION. UNLESS OF COURSE YOU DON'T VOTE THAN WHAT YOU THINK DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAYS. PEOPLE WHO DON'T VOTE AND ACTIVATE THEIR RIGHTS AS BEING FREE AMERICANS DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN, GRIPE OR TYPE. STAND UP LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD VOTE ITS YOUR RIGHT

I think he would prevent the situation we have now. The current administration got us into it, because it is corrupt and has connections to the oil companies. The war is one of the source of our disastrous economy and political situation. It is pathetic that a great and poerful nation cannot produce a worthwhile politician who would be a statesman and also would do something for the people of this country.

THIS COUNTRY IS NOT READY FOR A BLACK PRESIDENT. THEY FIRST NEED TO STOP THE POOR ME MENTALITY.. THEY HAVE BEEN CRYING LONG ENOUGH.200 PLUS YEARS. PLUS BAHAMA OR WHAT EVER HIS NAME IS DOES NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE TO RUN THIS COUNTRY. HE CAN''T CONTROLL HIS OWN PERSONAL, OR RELIGOUS ONES. DON'T TELL ME HE CAN DO BETTER FOR THIS COUNNTRY. VOTE FOR NONE OF THE ABOVE.

If it were to you, blacks would still be slaves. Unfortunately, you lack the moral character, the mental fortitude to dictate such. Search within yourself and learn to accept the fact that the time is ripe for this spectacular event. Consider this as a role reversal, an experience for a lifetime. The mental bondage is dissipatating and...??? Do you get my drift?

I do. I was 13 years old when Bobby was running for President. Make no mistake - he would have been President of the United States. He not only brought a large percentage of people to action - he was like a muse to us. He empowered - people rose from stupor to join the ranks to have their voices heard. There has not been anyone like Bobby Kennedy since. I mourn him to this day.

First let me say you veered off the JFK issue and went into discrimination. Since the later is a concern and has been on my mind for years I will discuss the issue you are concerned with. I too am concerned in today???s era about all types of discrimination; you singled out one that continues to be a hot-topic. I hope you would agree these adults have been around hand ups most of their lives and many tell friends about the free ride they are receiving. I volunteer my time 1000???s hours during my teen???s to pass out food clothing toys to the needy, I ask myself were these folks discriminated against so severe to cause their life???s journey to end up at this point? Today I don???t think so, its just bad economic choices to live like the ???Smith???s??? every day. I have scaled back my volunteer hours to help these so called needy people because I just can???t justify why my brother a minister and I drive my 1991 vehicle to deliver aide to people who live in public housing, and have vehicles setting in the drive that???s 13 thirteen years newer then mine, your going to say those are friends, yes they are but those friends are eating a sleeping in the house and eating the food and enjoying the cool air or heat the public tax dollars provided and then to exploit a church to bring more food for these so called needy people. I come to a point in my life I will only help the children, sometimes that???s even indirectly giving out a free ride for those adults..

    Who???s going to help me??

I always thought that if "Kennedies" would have went on, the world would be different. Kennedies were the most serius pacifist intended of the recent history. Unfortunatly in the sixties militarism was most powerful and which went on was the war. Julio Caro, from La Plata, Argentina

What if the cow jumped over the moon where would we be? A little bit smarter in physics maybe, but it wouldnt change a whole lot. I think we are where we are supposed to be.
As for Obama so what he is black!! The point is he has no experience, who is going to run the country? Not him! I believe he a muslim and that will be the world religion and everyone will be converted to muslim and if not you will be done for. Do I then want him for president Hell no.

It's amazing how people can show their ignorance, arrogance and stupidity all at the same time. I believe the article was about Robert Kennedy and "WHAT IF" he had not been assassinated. What path would our country have gone down with somebody like Robert Kennedy at the helm? What issues he believed in and what his passions where. How does one come in from left field with OBAMA...Please take the caps of next time and use spell checker too...

If the great Robet Kennedy had becomed our President , it wouldn't have taken forty more years
for an Obama to be our Democratic Nominee. When Robert died the air went out of the ballon. It only
slightly deflated when JFK was assasinated but with Robert's death the air completely vanished.l

Although no one can legislate racial tolerance, certainly there are those that can encourage the process. The same is true with compassion, understanding, and a spirit of mutual cooperation with our fellow man. I think these would have been traits of a RFK presidency.

Additionally I believe the war in Viet Nam would have ended in 1969. From 1969 to 1974 some 21,000 US Soldiers died in Viet Nam. What would their contribution been to the US if they had survived. How many children would have known their fathers?

What if the educational levels in America started to improve in 69 instead of waiting until we ranked so poorly that UNICEF ranked us 18th out of the top 24 nations.

What if we would have begun to improve our infrastructure back in the late 60???s as opposed to allowing things to achieve a point of failure in this millennium?

What if we would have sought energy alternatives back in the late 60???s as opposed to being forced by war and foreign economic control of our country to do it now?

What if we started walking, as JFK had proposed, under RFK? How would the overall health of America have been improved? Would we have less weight related problems, less heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes?

Would this country be closer to it???s ideal than to its decline as we are now. I believe so.

John and Bobby Kennedy turned their backs on the people that got them into office. Granted, Jack was a good man, and a fine president, but, putting an egomaniac hothead like his brother Bobby in any position of power was foolish and irresponsible.
As far as the discrimination comment posted by hkiehsliban, truer words were never spoken, racism and biggotry are alive and well here in America. What was left out is the fact that it comes from all directions. This isn't a matter of keeping the "BLACK MAN" down anymore. The systematic collapse of our equality and individuality is racism being propagated by parents, teachers, politicians, police officers, etc. When we teach our children to hate or fear, it doesn't matter if you are black, white, hispanic, whatever, we are showing them it is okay to distrust a person for the color of their skin. I am of African American descent and I will be voting for Barack Obama, not because it is time to let a "BLACK MAN" have his day in the sun, but because he seems to be the lesser of 3 evils. McCain is a class A nutjob and Clinton is Karl Marx incarnate. If the United States was the beacon of freedom we are all taught to believe, true patriots like Ron Paul would not be pushed aside by the media. Instead, these individual thinkers would be paving the way for the rest of the world instead of spending so much time and money buying more time and money. I am tired of hearing about us spreading democracy, read your constitution, people, you know, the big article that our founding fathers spent so much time on? The word democracy ain't in there! We are a republic, as in "...and to the republic for which it stands..." Democracy leaves the rules up to the whims of the masses, and as we've found over the last few decades, the masses are an ignorant, racist lot! Repeal the patriot act and get rid of affirmative action, there's a good start. Then maybe the next generation won't feel the need to put a color in front of the words "MAN" or "WOMAN".

    • Posted By: cubanolagirl @ 06/05/2008 11:35:10 AM

WOW! I must say this is probably the most intelligent argument I have read on this site. You are correct, sir, in that most Americans are a "mass of ignorants". Free thinking is almost non existent in today's society.
I am a first generation female, white, Cuban-American. I was not alive at the time of JFK or his brother. I have, however, read and learned enough about history and these men to know that they did indeed change the face of what we see as a political leader (as did many men at that time).
Why we don't try to look for candidates like that anymore is beyond me. It isn't, and shouldn't be, about Repulicans versus Democrats. This 2 party system is corrupt and hurting all Americans.
Europeans don't play this game that we have going on here in America. They see corruption and they band together and MAKE changes happen in the government. And when things don't change they way they feel they should, the public rallies together until change meets the needs of the public.
That's what the politicians are there for, to serve their country and those living in it. Yet, we believe their rhetoric and obviously well written scripts on issues many people hold near and dear to their hearts, because those candidates running know that those issues are important to us (even if they don't give a fig about it) and many politicians don't hold their end of the bargain. We then become cynical and disenchanted and disenfranchised with the government and become *apathetic and indifferent* with the political scene and beyond that. When what really should happen is a revolution of sorts. I'm not talking about a civil war, I'm just talking about peaceful protests and DEMANDING change until OUR (the public/taxpayers) needs are met.
Unfortunately though, many in this country are so wrapped up in their own thing that they don't get together and put up a united front. I'm going to use this as an example of how WE as AMERICANS could unite for a common good purpose:
IF every American decided we would ALL NOT go to work OR purchase ANYTHING, especially FUEL, on one preset day to show the government AND the oil companies that they need us they just might listen to us; all of us. But no one wants to make a small sacrifice for the greater good and for a purpose that would help us ALL.

While I politely disagree with your politics, I say "HEAR HEAR" to your post. Unlike other posts on this comment board, yours is knowledgeable and not full of hate, conspiracy theories, or mindless rants.

I have heard many people say they won't vote for Obama because he is "black" or "muslim" because the U.S.A. is a "Christian" nation. For starters, Obama is not a Muslim. His father may have been a Muslim but that doesn't mean he is one. My parents were Catholic. Doesn't mean I am a Catholic. He may have gone to a Muslim school, but people always manage to forget that he also went to a Catholic school as well. Secondly, the U.S.A. is not a "Christian" nation. In fact, we have a little thing here called the First Amendment which gives us, among other things, freedom to practice any religion we so choose (with certain exceptions like Bigamy). In fact, we can choose to not practice any religion at all. Also, many ignorant people fail to realize that we are not at war with Islam. All Muslims are not terrorists. In fact, all terrorists are not Muslim. IRA, anyone?

Our next generations has much to overcome with getting past "Color" certainly, but we most certainly have to learn a little religious tolerance as well.

I BELIEVE THAT DEP2525 HAS MISSED THE POINT AND WHILE FREDOM OF SPEECH IS A GIFT - IT SHOULD NOT BETRAY STUPIDITY NOR EXCUSE IT. AMERICA IS A FIRST WORLD COUNTRY AND THE EXPRESSIONS FROM ITS CITIZENS BETRAYS ITS LEVEL OF INTELLECT, ASUMING THERE IS ANY. NOW, SPERATING ONESELF FROM A CHURCH DOES NOT MEAN ONE SEPERATES THEMSELF FROM A BELIEF. FURTHER, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PROFESSIONALISM BUT TO DO WITH A PRINCIPLE WITH WHICH ONE STANDS. MR OBAMA IS FREE THEREFORE ,TO CHOOSE TO STAY IN A CHURCH WHICH ADHERES TO PRINCIPLES WHICH HE IS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH. I SUCGGEST THEREFORE THAT THE ABOVEMENTIONED WRITER, CONDUCT A RESEARCH ON, RELIGION, BELIEFS AND POLITICAL DOCTRINES BEFORE SPROUTING SUCH IDIOCY.

EXPLAIN SOMEONE TO ME WHY OBAMA, IF SO RIGHTEOUS, QUITS HIS OWN CHURCH JUST FOR A POSITION THAT ANYONE WITH ENOUGH MONEY AND FRIENDS CAN POSSESS.
I STRONGLY BELIEVE, THAT IF A PERSON BELIEVES IN WHATEVER RELIGION SHOULD NOT ABANDON JUST FOR ADVANCING HIS OR HER OWN PROFESSIONAL CAREER, TO ME THAT ALONE SHOWES IF THE COUNTRY IS IN CONFLICT WILL HE OR SHE ABANDON AS WELL, DO NOT ABANDON YOUR BELIEFS FOR THEY MAKE YOU WHO YOU ARE OR ARE NOT.

When you find that those you once believed in are out of line, then it is time to change course and associate yourself with those that are in line with you what you believe to be right.

Just because he left the church doesn't mean he left his beliefs. Religious beliefs are much more than just a building.
