Let the Second-Guessing Begin!

I wish to point out something. I have studiously avoided the subject of race in weeks of blogging, a new sport that I enjoy very much. But I would like to say something about old white men and racial prejudice. I am an old white man who grew up in the south and attended segregated schools. I rode on city buses which had signs dividing the front of the bus from the back, and designated them white and colored. Public restrooms and water fountains were designated white and negro. I lived a childhood devoid of association with black people. When you are born and raised in this, it seems normal.
Then, in elementary school, I began to see posters with Eleanor Roosevelt's picture and words, which I cannot remember totally, which encouraged the elimination of racial prejudice, especially against black people who were in those days called negroes. This caused me to pay attention and try to see what was afoot. There wasn't much help from the adults who were content with the status quo, but we kids would occasionally discuss it and start to question why things should remain so.
Then, I was drafted into the Army in the early fifties not long after Harry Truman had integrated the military. My association with black people began. It was an awakening and and a welcome expansion of a narrow life. From those days to now, I have never ceased to seek and find all remnants of that old prejudice and eliminate each one as found. The older people who were not successful in eliminating their prejudices died one by one and were buried with those problems.
I have numerous friends and associates my age with similar backgrounds and I can confidently say that whoever thinks that all old white men are prejudiced against black people is sadly mistaken. Some of these are former republican conservatives and some were just plain conservative without political connotation. We are about 80% fans of Barack Obama and we regularly send him donations over the internet. Those who disagree with us do not do so on racial grounds.
So, that's it. I won't say any more about race, but I thought that someone should say this to indicate that things are not so black and white as it is popular to believe.

WOW! Where do I start? Ok, first off, John McCain did not enlist to "fight in Viet Nam", he did what his daddy told him to do. He was was a poor student, who spent most of his time drinking, and soliciting prostitutes. His lack of interest in an education, or desire to truly apply himslef to his training was made obvious when in ONLY 20hrs of "combat" (not real combat, on the ground face to face) after ONLY 20hrs of "combat" he was shot down, not while doing any heroic act, but because he SUCKED AS A PILOT, you see in his feeble 20hrs of "combat" he ad also crashed 5 jets prior to being shot down.
He DID do over 30 propaganda films for the VC, so you're WAY off there. According to the 2 American commanders in the camp the same time as McCain, ther was NO torture, McCain was brought in in bandages and a body cast, which was more than any other prisoner was given. He received such treatment because the first thing the COWARD said when he was captured was "my daddy's an Admiral!"

He as turn his back on the nations POWs to whom he swore he would NEVER use his "POW" status for political gain...what was that tour he did just last summer?

He turned his back on our sons and daughters fighting now when he did not even have the courage to show up to vote AGAINST the new GI BILL which supports our troops fighting these wars, and their families, why does he hate our troops?

As for his kids "serving" their a$$es should be on the front lines until it's over and the last American is home, period, daddy wants our kids to die for OIL, his should be the first to go, anything less than that is just more political theatre. Yeah he had a son in Iraq, in the green zone, NEVER left the green zone, and was a clerk, ONLY, remember "CLINGER"...lol

He is NO HERO, NO MAVERICK, nothing but an old man clinging to false glory and Bush "values".

I think that about covers it. Doubt me google his millitary record son, you'll see what a real coward he truly is, and a liar, and anti-American troops, yet pro "WAR FOR OIL"...(McCains words on 05/03/08)

I don't know how you used to write--I just started reading during the primary--but I hope it was something worthwhile. As for this? Just more of the same. There is too much crap to bother with. Comment: Sharenews and other HRC supporters - it hit me tonight that we can do something constructive to show our displeasure regarding the outcome of the Democratic primaries. Unfortunately, I saw Keith Olbermann say that if Barack loses, it's all Hillary's fault. I was in absolute disbelief. I've sent MSNBC e-mails, etc., but to no avail.

So, here's my idea. Let's set up Operation Payback (Nins - you get credit for the name after thinking I was involved in Operation Chaos). As of today, I've cancelled my subscription to Newsweek and will NEVER watch MSNBC again. My relatives have done the same. If we hit these media outlets who have so mistreated Hillary in the pocketbook, maybe we can at least address some of the anger we're all feeling.

Obama supporters - do us all a favor and stay out of this with putdown comments. I think that this gives HRC supporters something we can do that is constructive and places blame (at least from my perspective) where it is due.

Hillary supporters - what do you think? If we pass this along to our friends, families and post it everywhere, I think we can make a difference. Both to salvage some of the hits Hillary has taken and to make sure that the next female candidate gets treated fairly.

Also, the notion that the media was somehow unfair to Clinton is absurd. There has been absolutely no attention paid for example to the fact that she was the first First Lady to come under Federal Investigation, or the fact that she testified before a Grand Jury and "could not recall" 50 some odd times and what that says about her honesty and competency. The press beat up on Obama about Rev. Wright for 6 weeks straight, yet stories that Clinton worked for a Communist Law Firm that defended extreme radicals and the fact that she maliciously impugned the integrity of pre-pubescent rape victim to deft a child rapist went without notice. No one has talked abou how Clinton reconciles her supposed Feminist position with the fact that she spent much of her time in the 90's on "Bimbo Eruption" patrol, impugning the integrity (you notice a pattern here) of any woman who spoke up about her husband's sexual harassment. Obama never brought up Clinton's dirt, and he gave her a pass on all of her gaffes, yet she jumped all over his every honest misstatement and blamed him for stuff that he didn't do and had absolutely no control over (her statement belittling MLK's importance to the civil rights movement, which is also where I believe she began to lose the bulk of the black vote, was somehow blamed on Obama when he didn't make the statement and he didn't even make a fuss about it. Obama was far fairer to her than she was to him, and the complete lack of logic or any foundation to his detractors' claims to the contrary truly makes me leary about the electorate in this country.
