Now that that nomination is clenched its time to rally around Obama.
Hopefully he puts Hillary in charge of healthcare - Im sure he will and the democrates and
middle leaning Repubs can get more seats in congress. THEN WE CAN GET THINGS DONE!

Dont let Hillary's epic campaign go to waste

The nomination wasn't clinched ... it was hijacked

  • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/05/2008 1:18:12 PM

Obama supporters have the nomination. Both are subjective opinions, but Hillary supporters view Obama as the weaker candidate, and they feel like the DNC elite pushed him through to the nomination. When will Obama supporters start embracing Hillary supporters, and stop insulting them? Many Hillary supporters are more moderate and could go either way. If you want Obama to win in November, its time to fulfill Obama's mantra and unite rather than divide. It is the responsibility of Obama and his supporters to court Hillary supporters.

    • Posted By: Pherdnut @ 06/05/2008 1:36:40 PM

The problem being that embracing stupidity alienates conservative-leaning moderates and people across the aisle who are fed up with Bush and friends, which is Obama's chief strength. I simply don't believe that there is a significant portion of Clinton supporters that will vote McCain or not at all over Obama. Once they get over their temper tantrums they'll have several months to compare Obama to McCain and it's not looking good for McCain right now. His anti-Obama speech was so incredibly lame compared to Obama's nomination acceptance speech that it was reminiscent of the Kennedy/Nixon debate.

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/05/2008 2:39:39 PM

Maybe if you didn't insult them by referring to their real or perceived hurt feelings, they'd come around sooner.

    • Posted By: Iakavous @ 06/05/2008 1:24:18 PM

Because Hillary supports are being just as mean-spirited. Obama is the nomminee, whether he won by 1 or 1 million it is her responsiblity to rally around the Democratic nomminee, not make inuendos and comments like something has been stolen from her.......we settled MI and FL even though our DNC elected officials including Ickies, McCollogh, and Clinton agreed that the would not be counted....its still about what can we do to make HER happy instead of showing a moment of unity and solidarity

To you ladies that are so mad, you are ready to vote for McCain. Just remember that if you do vote for McCain, you can watch Roe v Wade get overturned. The point is, if you take one woman's right, you can begin to loose more rights. You ladies really need to wake up and remember that both women and blacks fought for the right to vote and the right to be accepted as Americans. At least Hillary Clinton is going to endorse Obama this Saturday. She also said that she do not agree with the women who want to vote for McCain. She will have something to say about it this Saturday. What she has to say will not make these women organization very happy.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/05/2008 1:23:28 PM

why not come up with reasons to vote FOR Obama rather than vote AGAINST McCain?

      • Posted By: Rooster @ 06/05/2008 1:49:18 PM

        Reason to vote for Obama:

        1) he will not be condescending to the youth...like Mccain
        2) He will keep his friends close and enemies closer..unlike Mccain
        3) He will fight for universal health care...unlike Mccain
        4) He will have the backing of some of the richest and most powerful people in America...unlike Mccain
        5) He will tax the rich and help the people that work hard for CEO's but never see that money...unlike Mccain
        6) He will uplift entire generations of minorities to believe in this country and challenge us to do for the country as it does for us....unlike Mccain

shall i continue because I can.

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/05/2008 2:37:54 PM

Please continue trying to bring in the Hillary supporters!

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/05/2008 1:31:46 PM

I just did. Now if you want to vote for McCain go right ahead. Just remember that you will loose one of your rights. How many more will follow.

      • Posted By: Pherdnut @ 06/05/2008 1:28:28 PM

Why bother when the article we're supposedly commenting on spelled the juicy ones out so nicely. We don't have the Kerry problem this time around. The GOP does. Good luck with that.

    • Posted By: Hawaii08 @ 06/05/2008 2:34:31 PM

How do you "loose" a right? Roe v. Wade is not the only concern of women. You are sure hung up on that.
Most women are smart enough to never need Roe v. Wade. You still don't get that, do you? LOSER & STUPID!! You are what's wrong with America.... it's called "dumbass syndrome"!

Comment: ckwan why do you bother to post but not back your claims up with anything whatsoever. While it doesn't mean a whole lot polls are favoring Obama right now. I came here from Digg prepared to criticize yet another pundit's failure to properly gauge the situation but I'd say he's nailed it. The Bush administration is a pariah right now and Hillary's own despicable similarities to GW (arrogance, refusal to acknowledge mistakes, divisive politics, etc...) are what ultimately cost her the nomination. McCain is already making all the same mistakes by reacting to Obama rather than attempting to make a case for himself. The guy has had a free ride for like six months now and he still hasn't garnered a lead over either democrat in the polls? That's pathetic. What makes you think the GOP is going to clinch 49 states with Obama's aisle-crossing/moderate draw and the libertarians nipping at McCain's heels?"

Take a look at Obama's performance in the Democratic primaries. He was able to win the majority of the white votes in only a handful of small states. He is not going to do well in the general election for the following reasons:

    1. Whether you like it or not, the reality is that people in this country are still voting along the racial lines and you can tell that from the Democratic primary results.

    2. Obama narrowly edged out Clinton in the Democratic primaries because he had strong support from the blacks (90%), the liberal white democrats and some other minority groups and also because of the proportional allocation of delegates to the competing candidates.

    3. In the GE, Obama is going to lose his advantage because the % of white votes will overwhelm the % of black votes, the liberal democratic white votes and the other minority votes.

    4. Obama will lose 49 states in the GE because there are no caucuses in the the GE and there are no mathematical allocation of delegates like the one in the Democratic system. There is an award of electoral votes state by state on a winner-take-all basis. In each state (except Illinois), Obama is going to lose to John McCain because of the overwhelming white support for McCain.

    • Posted By: Rooster @ 06/05/2008 1:42:22 PM

You are assuming to much...I have a feeling that the majority of Americans arent like you and have an open mind and do look at this as white versus black...I am certain enough to bet my life that the ONLY people that are doing this is a very small percentage of white people like 5 to 7% thats not a lot to worry about at all.People that try to make this into a white vs black tthing want it that way because they feel that is the only way to win. Historically, Blacks do not vote republican so why now is it a white verse black issue? He narrowly did nothing he whooped her down by 200 delegates, not mention he stopped campaigning where she won big. When he campaings its a a pretty much 50 50 split between them.... you assume much

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/05/2008 2:34:24 PM

His pledged delegate victory was about 100, and the election was very close. HIllary supporters who are wary of Obama are becuase he is new to the national stage, not yet well known, and liberal. Hillary supporters are moderate and more loyal to the Clintons. Convince them on Obama, and you will get almost all of them. Rehashing the campaign will not move many of them to Obama

I totally agree with Rooster. I have been talking to a lot of Republicans and they are voting for Obama. They are American before they are Republican and no one wants war monger full of hate McBush! This is 2008 ckwan4 and I believe you and your bigot friends are the new minority group. • Posted By: Pherdnut @ 06/05/2008 1:41:50 PM

Obama loses the white vote in states that will never be anything but red in the foreseeable future but I think you overestimate the degree to which race will dictate swing and purplish-red states.

Unfortunately, like too many things in society this election is all about "me" and "what I want" instead of what is best for the country. Dems voting for McCain just to prove a childish point is sad and disappointing. This goes against all the great reasons for being a democrat in the first place.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 06/05/2008 2:23:07 PM

  • Posted By: frstevens @ 06/05/2008 1:51:53 PM

the reasons Hillary lost that you elucidate were also reasons that her experience certainly didn't equal the supremely necessary quality of good judgment which is the most vital aspect need in a President.
This is why she was the wrong person to be the nominee. Thank goodness enough Democrats felt the same way. ANd thank you for saying one of his most overlooked accomplishments was his ability to put together the right people to create such a brilliant campaign organization - something that does bode well for him as a Presidential candidate, and would serve him well as a President.

What is underneath this thick layer of sugar? Can we take the risk to elect a quasi-terminator who may be programmed to be cool and licensed to kill? Bottom line: Obama has the responsibility to show that there is not a latent Wright virus tangled in his genome." EVAX

You already have a President with a latent virus in his genes, programmed to kill - George Bush, Jr. , son of the former CIA director. What did you do to get rid of him, if this is your concern about Presidents?
But at least you are honest Evax and prove the point that there are still ignorant, scared folks...that only see Obama's skin color.

You Obamabots are so proud. The allocation of delegates favors urban over rural districts, and caucuses are meant to favor party insiders and thus are easily dominated by fanatics. Neither will be available in the GE. You've sowed hate and contempt across the left side of the electorate, and you will reap that in Nov.

    • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/05/2008 1:37:12 PM

Why don't you just say that Obama won because of affirmative action. you are doing just what I said most white americans are doing. You won't vote for Obama because of the color of his skin and that would be a sad day in America.

sorry if I offended you Ewok, but I am speaking the truth. Most white Americans will not vote for Obama and they don't care if the country goes down the drain. people like smn77 are the reason we still have hate in this country. Women like Harriet Christian are not helping women causes when you start speaking hate and racial comments to support your candidate.

    • Posted By: Pherdnut @ 06/05/2008 1:46:25 PM

Sorry, but the hate vote and the party destabilizing consequences thereof are the GOP's problem this election, not ours. Gen Y just got its first crop of voters into the game and its obviously changing the way the game is played. The whole Wright thing is a transparent joke and I'm surprised Obama's campaign took it as seriously as it did before Wright publicly made an ass of himself at that press conference. In any case that was a good excuse to ditch the issue altogether and come November I seriously doubt anybody that would ever vote for a democrat anyway will take Wright into consideration when they make their decision.

    Hossein from Seattle,
To use the sport terminology. Does this race remind you of Ali, Forman fight?
    The similarities are so amazing.
She was the overwhelming favorite, the sure thing, so strong, savvy, experienced and powerful. The race will be over by the second round (Super Tuesday!). No strategy if the fight goes longer than two rounds.
Then came the Ropadupe. During those terrible 6-8 weeks that Obama had to deal with "bitter", "Wrigth" and other issues, he leaned back and took the punches, but kept scoring, not panicking.
Those powerful Kitchen sink blows to the body, all the racial attacks, unelectable, etc???!
    How Ironic!!!!!
This a great week for America and the whole world!

I would have voted for Hillary had she won the nomination, no matter how much I personally don't like her as a person (or at least the public persona). A lot of the hate in this campaign has come from both sides on the comment boards. Depending on who you support, you're going to view this campaign differently and neither side will agree to the other. That being said, Obama has clinched the nomination and we NEED to keep John McCain out of the White House. Both sides NEED each other and we have to put our personal feelings aside and do what's best for the COUNTRY. It's the Supreme Court! If nothing else, think of your future or current daughters and granddaughters, and how their rights will be effected if McCain is in the big house.

There seems to be on these blogs. I liked Hillary in beginning, because of her bad behavior I lost my respect as a person. Would I still vote for her if she had been the nominee - absolutely. I would do that because I love this country and it's citizens too much to continue with 4 more years of Bush/McCain policies.

If the whole FL MI thing didnt happen, then Obama would have done better in both states
He would have won MI and gotten more than 33% in FL

Also, even if he didnt get anything in MI he would have won
Pluse Hillary had more people on the committee

Hillary lost because of bad planning - all she had to do was contest the caucus states and she would have won because the superdelegates would not have defected

lets not forget that Obama stated off with 0 supers and she started with about 150

Please dont be bitter, if your gonna be mad - be mad about something that is real

Excellent response! Billy Boy is the worst - and he did so publicly for the entire nation and world to see! Now I understand how Hilllary put up with it. She has an enormous capacity for denial, as evidenced in her own campaign, especially the last few days. The Clintons are toxic, disfunctional people and it's time for them to exit stage left and find new and different ways to seek adoration, if not relevancy.

  • Posted By: Hawaii08 @ 06/05/2008 11:18:04 AM

The only reason she lost is because the disloyal delegates would were "fair-weather" Clinton supporters turned out to be nothing more than people wanting to attach themselves to whoever they thought was popular. More importantly, THEY ALL are playing the race card because they are AFRAID to not nominate a black man. For most white people, even those pretending to be past it.... the black bogeyman still is their BIGGEST fear. They are afraid blacks will riot in the streets. Who cares, I'm black and I'm not tearing up my town. Sure the kids are more progressive and forward thinking... but it's all fun and games. Let's see if they turn out in November. I think we just handed the White House back to the Republicans. Of course the DNC, the media, & the African-Americans who were once so enamored of the Clintons will ALL blame Hillary. Ditto the STUPID, backwards men who still think a woman should be barefoot & pregnant & quiet.

    • Posted By: peterd @ 06/05/2008 12:56:52 PM

I don't think there are a lot of backward men who still think a woman shoud be barefoot, pregnant and quiet. However, there are indeed a lot of men who think men and women should be treated equally, while, at the same time, acknowledging that women are indeed different from men, and vice-versa. I mean , as a man, I can't get pregnant and create a new human being. Hillary Clinton was the first woman to run for President and accomplish something that noone has done before (ditto for O'Bama), but she forget that, as a woman, she is different. Johnathan Alter wrote, perhaps, the best assessment detailing the reasons she failed to win over O'Bama. She used her husband's "political genius" to strongly influence her campaign strategies and tactics........a big mistake.....she failed to acknowledge that she was different and portrayed the same "arrogance" and "egotistical self-destruction" that undermines letting voters know who you really are and what you really stand for. Hillary showed that she makes poor and "what's in it for me" decisions. The Clinton's days have been over for a long time. Like old prize fighters that keep getting into the ring after their time, they have now written another chapter in a "too long-a-book" that borders on a "Greek tragedy". Good judgement outweighs inexperience most of the time. Great presidents can suround themselves with "experience" and all kinds of meaningful advice, but it takes good judgement to to make good decisions. Fortunately, Barack O'Bama has shown us who he really is by his actions, not just his words (another Hillary downfall). His grauciousness, restraint, patience, deliberation and then
action that is consistent with "good judgement and decision-making" are the reasons he is now the winner of the Democratic Primary. As a lifetime Republican and retired military officer, I actually enjoy
and will support Barack O'Bama in November as long as he continues to be true to himself, honest to
we voters, and consistent in his policies and convictions. He is a breath of "fresh air" that will bring us together as a united nation to tackle our domestic problems. Unfortunately for George W. Bush, the latest book "What Happened" by his ex press secretary McClennan has exposed "who he really is". Politicians are great actors, but when the rubber meets the road, they have to expose who they really are. After 9/11, we needed a George Bush, who did rally the country behind him on our "war on terror". But the Iraq quarmire, with all its deception and manipulation, like Vietnam was his downfall. Cogratulations to Barack O'Bama on a job well done. Keep up the good work and good luck in November.

This one-sided thinking is terrible. The fact remains, this is a bad day... and it will only get worse. But some people have to put their hand over the fire to see if it's hot.... I tend to accept the warning signs....

Great post and thank you for not resulting to childish insults. Do you think Sen Clinton running basically for Bill Clinton's "3rd term" had something to with it too? Sen Obama is doing a pretty good job of labeling Sen McCain's presidency as George Bush's "3rd term" and I'm wondering if that unspoken description of her run was a factor.

Nice rationalization from a media jerk. Admit it, you're childish and petulant. The media helped fix this campaign as much as Brazille and the DNC. Payback is coming.

Ahmm, you sound petulant, childish and stupid too. Jerk is a given.
I thought Bill fixed the campaign? Hills didn't lose by herself? I bet she wishes she had just shut-up.

McCain can't remember who we are fighting, let alone what he voted for in the past verses today. He blows where the wind might be popular and then blows back when people start to dislike what he is doing. His advisors have to whisper into his ear when he doesn???t know the answers to some of these tough questions. His foreign policy includes his 5 years as a POW ???way to win there-especially when they told his ass to go home after a year- and he said no-that???s when they tortured him- another win-win!!- for (McSame). You call that foreign policy? I don???t think McCain won the war he was in let alone his situation there- especially if he was captured-that would be embarrassing. Do you think he would do the same to our troops? You call that winning? Oh- and the market tour in Iran rather than the actual battlefield of where he was supposed to go to see if the surge was really working. He has too many senior moments, and his temper is unmanageable. If you have a girlfriend or a wife, or even a sister-he will take the supreme court back to the 50's and even these woman won't have rights-any person who laughs when a McCain supporter calls Hillary or any other female a "bi**h" and does not defend that comment-something is wrong. Tells you a little something about his private life and message. If you can't figure that out, then you have poor judgment. I wouldn't want McCain's finger on any trigger other then the one he will use to flush the toilet at night when he has to go.
