The devil who can really hang US would be a President who can sell voters a sugar-coated rope. Obama has shown that he can take punches without losing his cool. What is underneath this thick layer of sugar? Can we take the risk to elect a quasi-terminator who may be programmed to be cool and licensed to kill? Bottom line: Obama has the responsibility to show that there is not a latent Wright virus tangled in his genome.

    • Posted By: Hawaii08 @ 06/05/2008 11:37:47 AM

Exactly... why are there so few who can read behind this wonderful facade? It is a SCARY time in this country.

      • Posted By: Mr. L @ 06/05/2008 12:19:32 PM

How, exactly, do you propose he demonstrate that he possesses no latent Wright-type virus, programmed to destroy America from within? And, just as important, why isn't it incumbent upon you to determine whether or not Obama is a Manchurian candidate?

        • Posted By: Hawaii08 @ 06/05/2008 1:28:28 PM

No demonstration required.... if you disagreed with what was happening or being said.... there are churches on every block. The fact that he stayed put for 20 years, had this man perform his marriage, and baptize his children. Why? Because he believed in this man, and considered him an "Uncle"... his words. His demonstration lasted 20 years until he thought it might hurt his campaign.... Just FYI, we visited almost every church in our town when we first moved in, until we found one that we consistently enjoyed and agreed with, and that became our church. Go figure?

Not that I disagree with you, but from what I've read, the Obamas did the same thing before settling on their church. When asked, other members of the church said they weren't there when Rev Wright was being his most outrageous. Hard to tell, if they're telling the truth or just don't want to admit that sat there for it. Also, I watched Rev Wright's speech to the NAACP (given the night before the Press Club interview) and it was like Dr Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde. First, the post speech coverage were carefully spliced sound bites that were taken out of context (I can say this for this speech only because I saw the whole thing) to make him seem the most crazy. I came away from the speech ready to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then he goes and gives the press conference the next day and was a complete fool. Sen Obama SHOULD have to answer questions about this because he's going to be expected to set the example if he's elected. If he answers the questions to the voters' satisfaction, then that's the way the ballot falls.

In response to pixiepunks earlier post....If you are going to talk about the Rev. Wright issue and claim that the Clintons don't have skeletons in their closet you night want to do some homework. Have you ever heard of WHitewater, Vince Foster, KAthleen WIlley, Paula jones, Jim and Susan McDougal, Marc Rich and the other questionable pardons. These are just a few of the MANY issues that come with the Clintons.

  • Posted By: CatLadyClary @ 06/05/2008 1:42:52 PM

In all the post-mortems I've seen so far, no one mentions that fact that Hillary lied about the Bosnia sniper fire incident. Am I the only one who feels that a candidate who will lie to get your vote will also lie once in office? I hear so many Clinton supporters say they trust her and share her values........how is that possible when she was shown to be liar (she "misspoke" just doesn't cut it with me). Are there really 18 million Americans who share the "value" of lying to achieve your ends? I am a 61-year-old, white, college-educated female. I would have loved to see a woman win the Presidency, but not at the expense of simple integrity!

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/05/2008 1:35:16 PM

Do these women organization remember the three civil rights workers who was killed in Mississippi? Do you remember what they were fighting for? Two white men and one black man. They fought so that not only black people can vote and have equal rights, but women also. When you return the favor with this hatred and angry and negative attacks, it shows the lack of care you have.

I could care less about Bill Clinton's sexism. Hillary is an awful presidential candidate. That's the problem, not that she's a woman, or a Clinton, or not black. It's so obvious from their arguments that a large segment of Clinton supporters are more interested in how Hillary resembles them than any other concern which fits the typical boomer self-entitlement complex. Thank you first-wave feminists for making it possible for our women to become the leaders and managers that many of them are today. Now be gracious parents and step out of the way please. Thanks to your efforts the new kids are smarter and more thoughtful than to could have ever hoped to be and you are unfortunately too stupid and muleheaded to realize it.

    • Posted By: smn77 @ 06/05/2008 1:23:44 PM

Nice. This is the typical Obamabot.

      • Posted By: Pherdnut @ 06/05/2008 1:30:32 PM

Yeah, well you're wrong. Oh, I'm sorry, did that sound kind of lame? Now compare to your pointless comment please.

I'm a white, mid 30's, well educated male. I put myself through school with help from the VA (disabled veteran as well) and I am so FRIGGEN TIRED of getting the RACIST or SEXIST card thrown in my face. I can't stand it. When will people take responsability for their own actions. FACT: four generations ago neither Hillary or Barack would even be in a position to try for the presidency. So, facts are, there is a LOT LESS racism or sexism than you think. I would even say that it is almost the reverse of four generations ago where 1/5 where not racist or sexist. Now, 1/5 are (not hard numbers so don't quote me on them). Every one of my friends be they white, asian, hispanic, middle eastern, black or female is voting for OBAMA. You know, I face so much reverse discrimination from all races and women EVERY DAY, I think it is hillarious that this is even an issue.

    • Posted By: Alvy @ 06/05/2008 1:26:51 PM

So, you're saying you know what it feels like to be a minority and discriminated against - but it doesn't exist or is a lot less? While you say you face it everyday?

  • Posted By: Romulus @ 06/05/2008 12:27:50 PM

Has anyone stopped to think that people are just exhausted and want to eliminate the complexity in government? We just want to know that when someone is saying something that it is what it is. No 'inflating' the truth no more 'disillusion' no more 'augmentations of details' just the truth. I agree with Gnomic, I wanted to see Hillary and Bill back in office in 06', but they joined the dark side [Darth Vader Reference...gotta love em.]. It's quite sad actually because if you read about the Clintons when they were younger you can see that two idealistic people with good hearts were taken into Washington and transformed to a shell of what they once were. Kinda reminds one of a drug addict. They can't see what they've become until they look at the pictures of themself before drugs years later. Perhaps Hillary should try to get back to basics and give it another run in 2016. Maybe then after Obama cleans things up and brings a little bit of integrity and transparancy back to government she will be able to govern like she once dreamed of as a young person.

    • Posted By: summer1216 @ 06/05/2008 1:23:21 PM

Excellent post. Hillary still has many years to do some good in the world. It will illuminate her character once and for all to see what she chooses to do with this time. Will she use her formidable expertise in health care to finally put this issue to bed? Will she return to the ideals of her youth and bring about positive change in other areas?

    • Posted By: Hawaii08 @ 06/05/2008 1:11:23 PM

Then we should also be able to see that Barack Obama did not sit in Trinity United Church for 20 years, clapping and saying "Amen", if he wasn't of the same mind as Reverend Wright. But like everything else that's suspect about him, it should be overlooked. He is the "Teflon Candidate"... John Gotti was also the "Teflon Don", but eventually it was proven that he was a Monster.... so we wait!

  • Posted By: vakosh @ 06/05/2008 1:08:21 PM

He did not win ... they gave it to him ... big difference.

    • Posted By: Positive thinking @ 06/05/2008 1:20:59 PM

Hey Vakosh, do you remember who won superbowl XXX, this was in 1996. It was the Dallas cowboys, I dont remember exactly what happened then but i do know they won. This is a historic moment not only for the USA but for the entire world, and 15 years from now no one will ask how much Senator Obama beat Senator Clinton by, all they will remember is that he beat her.

    • Posted By: Alvy @ 06/05/2008 1:10:18 PM

That's the idea of a vote stupid - to take what they give you.
Now go cry somewhere else child.

Comment: I've watched the author comment on a cable channel and find his analysis crisp, incisive and accurate. I am especially pleased that the author hits square on the Clinton arrogance. If she responded to that 3AM call in the White House in the confused, befuddled way she's been dealing with her "exit," this country would be in grave peril. As I always perceived, she is massively cut off from her own instincts in favor of relying on advisers and, yes, the collective Hillary Hag electorate - to tell her what to do next. This analysis was so on the mark that I hope Barak agrees, and realizes she is totally WRONG for veep.

  • Posted By: rosebuddy @ 06/05/2008 12:50:46 PM

For me the main reason Obama won is because of his sincere message of hope and change. As I heard a radio station d-jay put it, Obama will heal this country that Bush made sick. ...or something like that. I was so hopeful that he would win, i cried when he won. And I am a white, 47, female. I don't think it was a gender or race thing all. The reason he won is because he is the real thing, and he is not arrogant. He shows his respect for the Clintons, for McCain when they are just awful to him. I wouldn't pick her as a running mate. He will get a demanding vp who wants to run the show along with Bill. And Obama is all about change. She was just so wrong in not conceding the night he won. Such arrogance.

Enter Your Comment Ditto on rosebuddy's comments. Pride and Arrogance are normally the reasons for the downfall of the tragic hero in Greek tragedy, and not much has changed with the Clintons. Her true colors showed during her speech when O'Bama went over the top. She makes stupid, self-effacing decisions that reaffirm why the Clintons need to ride off into the sunset and enjoy their 120 million they made last year writing books and giving speeches about themselves.

Observers beyond the shores of the "United-States" of America are watching. We'll see if this great country will answer true to her name at least for a first time. I read comments by some people and all i can do is shake my head. No wonder the "United States" is struggling as a world leader, a position it once enjoyed without rivalry for decades dating back to the end of WWII. A golden opportunity is here to take your position. Vote for candidate of choice based strictly on issues that affect everyday man: the economy, helth care, jobs, security PLEASE!!!. We are watching.

I cannot believe I use to be a soldier for the Clintons....they have trully shown their true face....all the canvassing and door knocking I did.....now it is clear....it's all about them and what they precieve as "theirs" to hell with the party and America.....whats good for the Clintons......

Rationalizing from a media jerk. So you admit you're all a bunch of petulant children! The corporate media had as much to do with fixing the primary as skanky Brazille and the DNC.

  • Posted By: OldUncleTom @ 06/05/2008 1:09:21 PM

One last task remains... to utilize Hillary's rapidly withering base of support into November.
Come December, America can kick the entire Clinton clan to the curb for good.

  • Posted By: GlennaT @ 06/05/2008 11:38:31 AM

Just two things... First, if Obama can run this country the way he has his campaign, there is hope. Folks who want to slight his experience...well, experience at what? being a politician? I like him the way he is. Second, please don't take this wrong media-folks, but you really need to stop pigeon-holing voters. I'm a middle-aged white woman that never went to college, grew up in the south, and have been an Obama supporter all along....some of us can read, and do... just an fyi on that.

    • Posted By: IDTT @ 06/05/2008 1:05:49 PM

Well said. I've been waiting for either candidate to stand up for their supporters and demand they be given the benefit of the doubt for having excercised their right to chose a candidate. The way the media tells it, they didn't need to bother with putting names on the ballot, just "white woman" and "black man" because that's how we're all basing our votes anyway. I'm a black man, but I was deeply offended by the insult to the good people of Kentucky and West Virginia. I thought it was obvious they chose Senator Clinton because she actually campaigned there. Sen Obama barely put in an appearance. He will have to work to get those votes, but it's doable because these people respect those who respect them. If they don't vote for him, its because they didn't fall for his pitch. Until someone stands up and says "I will never vote for so&so just because he/she is black, white, asian, hispanic, male or female" then we can't assume that's why they didn't vote for them. Sen Obama is still relatively new, he has time to get people interested in his campaign.

It's the end of the Boomer era, John. The old ways don't work anymore. Judging by the current state of the country, and the situations of its ever-growing disenfranchised, they never really did (at least for us normal people). To borrow the recent bemoan of Bill Clinton himself: "They want us to take this gold watch and move on".
