This is but another in a long line of Republican lying. In fact for me, Republican has become a synonym for liar. And, once again, when caught they cry "negative attack." The country, or at least me, are tired of this behavior. It has worked for them in the past, but I doubt it will work much longer. Fool me once, shame on me ... Fool me twice, etc.

McCain says he "met with people on the ground" -- yeah, he met with George Bush Jr. on the day of the worst crisis of Katrina on the tar mac of the Phoenix airport to give him a birthday cake, pose for some photo op's and then left the cake on the ground as Bush Jr flew off again. Wow. That's really impressive.

Hope Hillary gave Obama a good talking to and set him straight on how it's going to be. Also hope she cleared a few things up that the ignorant media, journalists, columnists and endless talking heads just can't seem to get that.

Two FACTS why he won and two FACTS why Hillary lost!

He won becuase whites in Iowa came out for him in mass number

    1) Without them he would have been out of the race many months ago. 2) The vast majority of those who do vote in the black community, knowing little, if anything about where he stands on any of the issues or his policies, voted for him simply becuase he is "black"!

Hillary lost because 1) Obama played the race card from day one, which he has denied all along, and still does today; and 2) beacuse the media are so skilled at leaving out the facts, truth, complete information, and are are biased, partisan, sexist, and little more than tabloid journalists at best. One need only look at the entire media's, both print and television, in the run up to the Iraq war and the cowardice on everyone's part to see just how complicit you all were in holding back in giving the facts, and truths, to the American people, especially the men and women who were slaughtered (both American and otherwise), and their families by your silence, half-truths, cover-ups and participation in the Bush deception, lies and fraud. And, also because the media was so biased in giving Equal coverage to EVERY candidate, rather than just some aging ex-Pow, a smug ex-CEO, a woman and a bi-racial man. Perhaps if you had done your jobs correctly we could have all been spared this freak show and someone like Joe Biden, who has the knowledge and experience and would make a much more solid candidate against a McBush, would have been the Democratic nominee long ago.

One other flaw I would like to point out in the media and press coverage is your total lack of coverage on all this crap and these bogus headlines about Obama being treated as the Messiah and his nomination as the Second Coming of Chirst. First of all, he is NOT! the first African American to be nominated to the presidency of a majpr party. He is the first BI-Racial man. What does it take to get through your heads and the heads of the ignorant American public that his mother was a WHITE WOMAN????? He was raised by his white mother and grandmother because, as is so prevalent in the black community and has been for decades, his black daddy took off when Obama was a child.

GET the facts peope, tell your buddies to get the facts, and then do everyone a favor and report them honestly or go write for the Enquirer. I'm sure they could use someone with your talents!

      Tony,

On behalf of all the WHITES in Iowa, we apologize. We didn't realize he was bi-racial or black. We were focused on the issues and character..

Sorry. Didn't know we were supposed to be examining his skin color.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 06/07/2008 6:01:02 AM

      Tony,
Take your blinders off. Obama has been the subject of more lies and negative attacks than anyone in the campaign. The media not only covered it, but they dwelled on it for months. Obama won despite all the negative coverage, because all of the attacks on him just because he knew somebody led to flawed assumptions. He won because he is really a decent guy.

He won because of his grass roots management skills and his integrity. Most of people's complaints about him were based on lies. It's hard to make things like that stick because people tend to find out the truth sooner or later.

      Fact 1 - Wrong
      Fact 2 - Wrong

No problem though, I'll help you out.

FACT 1 - Clinton relied too much on Penn as her chief strategist
FACT 2 - Penn was the one who advocated ignoring the cacus states, and Clinton went long with it.

Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. But if you want to know the real reason for the loss, that's it.

IT IS PATHETIC TO LISTEN TO SO MANY IN THEBLACK COMMUNITY ON TELEVISION, THE RADIO, ON THE STREETS TALKING ABOUT HOW IT IS SO NICE FOR THE BLACK TEENAGERS AND YOUNGER TO FINALLY HAVE A ROLE MODEL TO LOOK UP TO WHO IS NOT A CELEBRITY OR A SPORTS STAR.

DRUG DEALING, DRUG ADDICTED, VIOLENT RAPPERS LIKE SUGE KNIGHT, TUPAC SHAKUR, MICHAEL VICKS, DARIUS MCCRAY, MIKE TYSON, ETC. SOME ROLE MODELS.

NOW THEY HAVE OBAMA. HOW ABOUT STARTING IN THE HOME WITH THE PARENTS, IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES INSTEAD OF ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO PROVIDE THE ANSWERS? wHY? bECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY, APATHETIC, WHINY AND TOO BUSY BLAMING EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING ELSE FOR THE SITUATION THEY ARE IN.

WELL, SHOULD OBAMA WIN THE WHITE HOUSE, ALL THAT RACE EXCUSE CRAP IS GOING BYE-BYE! JUSE LIKE THE SO-CALLED REV'S WRIGHT, SHARPTON AND JACKSON. NO MORE BNLAMING THE WHITE MAN FOR ALL OF THE BLACK MAN'S SOCIETAL PROBLEMS!

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 06/07/2008 5:49:29 AM

      Toni,

You're going to complain about everybody calling you racist. You're going to say that just because you talk about it doesn't make you racist, but here's the problem.

Years ago people tried to rationalize treating black people differently because they made generalizations about black people not being smart or as good as white people. This is what makes it racism. If you make generalizations and say that all black people are this way and all white people are the other, you are racist. It doesn't matter what color your skin is. If you say all blacks are lazy or make excuses you're racist. You may not realize it, but you are.

At that point you're also wrong, and most people know it. But I would guess you never intended to show off intelligence; hence the seeming lack of it. My guess is you just wanted to pick a fight.

Father: AFRICAN, mother: AMERICAN. So he is an AFRICAN-AMERICAN. Did you get it dude? Or do you need more explanation? By the way, why are you interested in skin color more than person itself?

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:34:00 PM

Why do racists always post in all-caps? Do they think shouting their hatred will make it acceptable?

    • Posted By: Alvy @ 06/06/2008 2:27:58 PM

Not to worry Toni, the nurse will be here soon. I hear she has pretty pictures of grassy knolls.
That will take your mind off the incest.

    BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!

OBAMA IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT, THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN ANYTHING! HE IS THE FIRST BI-RACIAL NOMINEE TO HEAD A MAJOR POLITICAL PARTY. SHOULD HE WIN HE WOULD BE THE FIRST, BI-RACIAL PRESIDENT OF THE USA!

    ANOTHER BULLETIN JUST CAME IN!!!!!

HIS MOTHER WAS WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WAS RAISED BY HIW WHITE MOTHER AND WHITE GRANDMOTHER, BECUASE AS IS SO PREVALENT IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY, HIS BLACK FATHER TOOK OFF WHEN HE WAS A CHILD!

SO, WILL THE MEDIA, PRESS, BLACK COMMUNITY STOP PROCLAIMING HIM AS THE MESSIAH, HIS NOMINATION AS THE SECOND COMING AND PLEASE STOP REFERRING TO HIM AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN. HE IS BI-RACIAL AND NOT MARTIN LUTHER KING REINCARNATED!

    • Posted By: Herunar @ 06/07/2008 12:58:30 AM

That Obama's mother was white is..breaking news? What the ***? Where have you been?

    • Posted By: rob_crowe @ 06/06/2008 4:30:22 PM

Father: AFRICAN, mother: AMERICAN, so he is an AFRICAN-AMERICAN. You got it dude? Or do you need more explanation? By the way, why are you so interested in the skin color more than the person himself?

    • Posted By: nmcalpine @ 06/06/2008 3:47:13 PM

Hey stupid. Pretty much all black americans have mixed blood. If you think about it he is more closely related to the term "African American" than most black americans are. I.E. his mother being a white american and father being from Kenya. Most black american people have no close connection to Africa.

There should be a Memorial for the Katrina Victims and their lost,.

  • Posted By: ABLODE @ 06/06/2008 9:15:38 PM

Give him a break. He is 71 year old and cannot remember everything from 2005-2006. That raised another question. Should he be running for office at all or apply for his AARP card and move to Florida where he seems to enjoy life in the Everglades? He also voted against the funds for the Everglades. Oh, I am sorry. He does not remember the specific of the bill. Sounds Bill Clinton and George W. Bush combined. WE CANNOT AFFORD BOTH MEN. Ladies and Gentlemen, The President of the US, Barack Obama.

  • Posted By: newage_lightbulb @ 06/06/2008 1:27:59 PM

"How is it biased? Its stating facts. FACTS. "

Learn to read. It's stating FACTS that have been SKEWED. McCain voted against the bills for their content. If he did not believe they would actually do anything to investigate the issue, then he is truthfully saying he voted for all bills that would investigate the issue.

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 06/06/2008 8:06:56 PM

So what he should have said was there were no bills to investigate the issue - is that what you're trying to say? He didn't say that, though. Republican spin at its best - and caught, as usual.

    • Posted By: redheaded blue girl @ 06/06/2008 2:07:12 PM

The only thing skewed is your answer. Well, also McCain's sense of truthfulness is skewed. He's going to fail as a candidate, with the only fact 'going for him' is that he's white, and that will, sad to say, be 'enough' for many voters.

  • Posted By: newage_lightbulb @ 06/06/2008 1:51:33 PM

"When asked a simple question, he couldn't answer it."

No, he did answer it - he said he wasn't familiar with the specific instance the reporter was discussing. Know why? Because they vote on like thirty resolutions and bills every single day.

    • Posted By: RMax304823 @ 06/06/2008 2:13:54 PM

Lightbulb: I'm inclined to give McCain a pass on not being familiar with a given vote too, but an independent counsel on Katrina is a little different from the usual 30 bills they vote on every day, wouldn't you agree? Katrina was extremely important, not just because a big city was destroyed, but because it was a heaven-sent experimental test of our ability to respond to the next terrorist attack -- and everything went wrong. Since the White House refused to cooperate with the Senate committee, we still have no clear idea what went wrong or how to correct it before the next incident.

      • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 06/06/2008 8:04:38 PM

I agree completely. McCain was either not listening, lying, or having a senior moment. Whichever one it was, it just reinforces the fact that McCain will make a bad president.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:37:54 PM

Acutally, he didn't remember because he had a "senior moment". Brain cells die off at an alarming rate in old age.

    • Posted By: colonel of truth @ 06/06/2008 1:59:53 PM

sorry bout that. I just repeated myself. I'm kinda new to this.

  • Posted By: sdeces77 @ 06/06/2008 6:41:50 PM

What negative attacks??? This is a plain question on the reason that lead sen. McCain to that vote and his motivation to vote against it , twice, despite Clinton's amendments. Lets not play the ultra sensitive here, and answer the question point blank. Negative attacks are on distorted facts or exageration of personal flaws, NOT on issues!!! We want the answer about the ISSUES, and this is ONE IMPORTANT ISSUE!!!

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 06/06/2008 7:55:27 PM

That is the Republican definition of "negative attacks". They make something up, get caught, and suddenly it is a negative attack. With that definition, they are going to be quite upset throughout most of this election.

  • Posted By: jmbrennan @ 06/06/2008 3:08:31 PM

I have noticed the last few days that Newsweek has been finding every flaw or mis-spoken comment by McCain. Can I expecta balanced report about Obama?
May be your reporters are spending too much time with Chris Mathews & Obermann on NBC & MSNBC and now are into opinion writing, or campaigning?

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 06/06/2008 7:53:44 PM

I think you have been seeing balanced reporting. McCain is a liar - or senile - and Obama isn't. You can't report what's not there - although I am sure the Republicans will try.

    • Posted By: Alvy @ 06/06/2008 3:51:59 PM

No. That's the Times you need to read. The Post is Dem.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:51:28 PM

Obama is in his mid-forties. He's not likely to make as many gaffes as the elderly McCain. The media can't manufacture gaffes by Obama. They can only wait for him to screw up and pounce. Thankfully, Obama is a hyper smart individual who minimizes mistakes of this nature.

  • Posted By: newage_lightbulb @ 06/06/2008 1:17:13 PM

More biased reporting from the Democrat magazine. If the Democrats wrote a bill that declared all first-born children should be killed, but called it "The Peace and Happiness Bill", and McCain voted against it, the title would be "McCAIN VOTES AGAINST PEACE AND HAPPINESS!"

    • Posted By: raddave @ 06/06/2008 6:24:36 PM

How is it biased reporting? McCain said that he supported the bill but actually voted against it. Kinda like he supports the Bush tax cuts but voted against that as well.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:39:48 PM

McCain voted 95% with Bush in 2007. His party-line vote hear conforms to his pattern of supporting the Republicans no matter what.

  • Posted By: miamiman @ 06/06/2008 2:22:50 PM

voting against something does not necessarily reflect badly on Mccain. bills often have other non related projects tacked on by politically motivated congress persons.

many votes on necessary legislation do not pass for this very reason.

a prime example is the global warming treaty which unfairly puts most of the load of costs on the US . politically it sounds bad that bush voted against it but it is you the american taxpayer who would pay for the prejudice of the rest of the world against the US.

    • Posted By: J.Richter @ 06/06/2008 2:57:38 PM

Did you read the article. There were two bills. One had absolutely nothing attached to it. He kept voting against them in total alignment with party and white house.

Oh - I'll just close my eyes and ignore the facts (forgiving him is something else - no one is perfect, but denying what you read or refusing to read facts is another matter).

      • Posted By: rcrist @ 06/06/2008 3:15:27 PM

This is the real probelm. I've been following this whole thing from the beginning. This article is exactly how the media has been trying to munipulate the primaries and elections. Becareful! Watch the media! Do you want to vote for who you want, or for who the media wants. The media has lost it objectivity I'm afraid. I would dig deeper on this subject if I were you. It really sounds to me as if the are block McCain's answer... not telling the full story. I'm going to dig deeper.

        • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:54:01 PM

Yep. How dare the media do their job and fact check! They should go back to reporting on Brittany's panties-less escapades.

  • Posted By: techresmgt @ 06/06/2008 9:13:43 AM

Oh, brother, here it comes; the 'hidden race card' gets played once again from the loaded deck with a nefarious headline, from a dubious source. Why else would this story 'break now' that Oprahma has clinched the nomination? Show us the proof. The English language lends itself very well to simply 'making statements' that are unverified or proven.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:45:11 PM

Katrina was a human tragedy. It was more about class than race. A lot of rich people don't care about poor folks. McCain is just an example of the Republican party's indifference to the suffering of the have-nots.

  • Posted By: rryn72 @ 06/06/2008 1:15:51 PM

Unfortunately McCain, Obama & Clinton were pressed from the same mold. Of these three, none of them have been able to keep their facts straight. As far as the Katrina situation goes, we shouldn't be worried about the federal government's response as much as the lack of response from the Louisiana government. Money had been pumped into the Louisiana coffer for decades and nothing was done to the infrastructure.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:40:43 PM

Where has Obama been untruthful. Please enlighten us.

  • Posted By: Trek @ 06/06/2008 3:05:39 PM

What does Senator Obama's campaign have to do with with McCain voting against this legislation twice? Is MCain having another senior moment, or doesn't just not want to take responsibility for his voting record and inaccurate statements?

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/06/2008 3:32:29 PM

When and if Obama makes an inaccurate statement, I'm sure they'll jump on it. After all, it makes a good story when a candidate screws up, whomever it is.

  • Posted By: scalvin @ 06/06/2008 3:00:50 PM

It seems amazing that in today's politics, facts are so frequently misrepresented or simply falsified as John McCain has done on this Huricane Katrina vote. I guess this provides a more accurate assessment of character, to bad it is often blurred by misinformation.

"I did vote to save the people in New Orleans. Isn't "no way" the literary form of yes? And isn't my defeating a bill actually making it stronger? These bills to save people are like wives and kids - they need tough love. Now shut up you ignorant B***, and take the **** with you. Isn't there a war going on in Lebanon somewhere today? That's right next to Iraq isn't it? Soon we can get that guy Gaddafi out in the open and blow him up. I said Shut-up you *****! I'm not as dumb as fanatical Hills supporters - they like war too - unlike me. Shut-up!"
