    TYLER - The price of oil swelled to another record high Monday morning - before dropping back. It almost hit $140 a barrel - but then fell 25 cents. It appears - a recent increase in oil output from Saudi Arabia -- is not driving down crude prices. Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, who started a bipartisan group called "American Solutions for Winning the Future" held little back at the Texas Republican Convention. He wants to use American solutions to change to the U.S. energy policy.

    Simply put - he's fed up with Congress: "The problem is not big oil or the foreigners," said Speaker Gingrich. "The problem is not the Saudis. The problem is getting Congress to do it's job." And that job, he says, is to start using the energy we have. "Congress outlaws every conceivable energy source," said Speaker Gingrich. Gingrich is making his case for domestic drilling by launching a campaign with Actor Chuck Norris, with the slogan: "Drill here, Drill now, Pay less." The campaign is urging Congress to do something now to bring down gas prices. Speaker Gingrich also has thoughts on speculators. "It's people who are betting the U.S. is too dumb to produce (its own oil)."


    He sides with East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert -- when it comes to speculators and drilling. "If you began selling off two million barrels a day...we can pump out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It would immediately bring down the price of oil." Speaker Gingrich proposes selling off half of the reserve - now. "Do it suddenly..without telling anybody in advance and punish every speculator."The very speculators, he says, that are betting against America."

    How about we do this to get our elected officials, it eliminates the ???"ties to favored interests" aspect, and the career politician aspect. You put the names of everyone who has served the good of the public such as military, police, firefighters, hospital workers, state, county, city employees, etc, in a hat. Every six years you pull two names out of the hat and there are your senators. They go to Washington, represent their districts and come home and go back to work. Do the same thing at the appropriate times for your house of representatives. You put the names of the ones who served as senators and representatives in a hat and every four years you pull out two names - President and Vice president. Can you imagine the secret service pulling up to your neighbor???s house one morning (think of the one you feel is a little out there)? They knock on the door and out comes the guy dressed in a bathrobe, his wife???s pink slippers and holding a cup of coffee in a "you might be a redneck???" mug, needing a comb and a shave and scratching himself in unusual places - all the while the press has him on national TV and the secret service guy is saying "Good morning Mr. President???" while Matt Lauer is trying to shove a microphone in his face to ask him how does it feel to be president. Who knows, it just might work???.

    Or better yet, eliminate the Electoral College, let every eligible person vote for the individual person they feel is qualified for these jobs and let the democracy work the way it is supposed to work. I don???t like either of the two presidential candidates; it???s like being forced to decide if you want syphilis or gonorrhea. Our freedom of choice is gone ??? under the current system, we can't vote for the individual we feel is most qualified and best able to act as President of the USA. We are forced to choose from two very poorly qualified people. By the way, the best choice dropped out long before the democratic primary was bought.

    America has ALREADY voted for change! They were going show Bush in 2006! And we sure got CHANGE!

    Before Democrats controlled Congress:

    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high.

    2) Regular unleaded gasoline was $2.19 a gallon.

    3) Unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

    1) Consumer confidence plummet.

    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $4.00 a gallon.

    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase).

    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses).

    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars; 1% of American homes are now in foreclosure.

    6) Oil was 63 dollars a barrel the day before the newest congress convened. It closed last Friday at 126 dollars a barrel. That is doubled for those with fuzzy math.

    7) Economic Growth for the 4th quarter of 2006 in GDP was 3.5 percent.

    8)1st Quarter 2008 0.6 percent.


    Remember it's Congress that makes laws, not the President. The President has to work with what is handed to the Administration.

      PLEASE, you can not blame the congress that is (barely) held by the dems for the country's economics woes, for exactly the same reason you can't blame bush. The economy is a complex machine - china and saudi arabia probably have more say in our economy than congress. Bush can veto any bill the dems propose, so it currently takes a bi-partisan 2/3 vote to get anything passed. Got realism?

      PLEASE, you can not blame a congress (barely) controlled by the dems for the country's down fall, just as much as you can't blame bush for all the country's current problems. Any law the dems try to pass can be vetoed and requires a 2/3 majority, which means bi-partisan agreement must occur. Economics is an incredibly complex machine - china or saudi arabia probably have more control of our economy than congress.

    In response to "will not vote Obama" : I think that doing away with the $102,000 FICA payroll tax cap is a great idea. I always had to pay taxes on ALL of my earnings since I never made near the maximum. This FICA tax, as it stands, is the most biased against the lower wage earners, since they can't deduct it on an itemized Federal Tax Form. However, Social Security benefits are TAXABLE when you collect them if you have a half decent pension. This would go a long way to bringing Social Security to stabillity.

    Although we go back and forth, I would like to say there are many voters who are not voting for Obama because of the color of his skin, All candidates have a message that they pitch and campaign month after month telling us over and over again what they will do once elected. I dont know why all the anger is towards Obama he is running just like McCain, wether you feel they are all liars or not, we need to work what we have, I know this isn't the first election you were angry about. But let me remind you when Clinton was in the office our Country had a surplus, we are spending millions a week in Iraq and McCain doesn't even have an exit plan, just today he was asked and said that was not too important.

    I along with others are looking for change in our government and I will see that my vote goes to OBAMA

    Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. Natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between ???December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986?

    *** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama???s aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. Election law. I think the Gov. Of California would be very insterested in knowing this if Obama were elected President without being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, and it would set precedence. Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this information will be leaking through over the next several days???

      The 14th Amendment
      The first official written explanation of American citizenship was included in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution (1868). Section 1 of this amendment declares that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." The wording of this amendment places national citizenship before state citizenship. In other words, an American is first a citizen of the United States and then a citizen of the state in which he or she lives. Citizens are entitled to the rights granted by both the national government and their own state's government.

      The 14th Amendment was passed to guarantee citizenship to blacks who were freed from slavery after the Civil War (13th Amendment, 1865). The amendment made the rule of jus soli (place of birth) a law for all U.S. citizens. This means that any child born in the United States becomes a citizen at birth, even if its parents are aliens. (However, the rule does not apply to children born to foreign diplomats or United Nations officials.)

      The 14th Amendment does not include jus sanguinis. American citizenship acquired at birth in a foreign nation is usually determined by the law that is in effect at the time the child is born. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, amended in 1965, 1976, and 1978, gives the requirements.

      For a child born on or after December 24, 1952, both parents must have been American citizens. In addition, one parent must have lived in the United States for ten years (and for at least five years after the age of 14) before the birth of the child.

        You just stated that any child born in the U.S. becomes a citizen at birth. Obama was born in Hawaii which is part of the U.S. making him a citizen. Your argument doesn't have any legs to stand on. Furthermore, his mom was from kansas and spent the majority of her life in the U.S.

        I'm glad you find it so hilarious that the person you want to vote for is not even elegible to be on the ballot. Yeah let's elect a president who has no legal right to be in office. Yeah that;s seems like a real good idea. What are you gonna do when his name is removed from the ballot. Now that will be hilarious. At least Hilary and McKain are actually elegible to be in office.

          Did you know our soldiers suicide rate is up 40%? Our economy is in shambles, we need change and Obama will bring just that......

    The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states (and DC). Every vote would be politically relevant and equal. The bill has been enacted into law in Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, and Maryland. These states have 50 (19%) of the 270 electoral votes needed to bring this legislation into effect.     I was a Democrat for 20 years and have been constantly disappointed in who we have on the ballot. Both in the primaries and in the general election. Sadly Obama is going to be more of the same in a long list of mediocre candidates. At least with Hilary we had someone with some guts and real experience. Obama is just not ready for the job and I do not have confidence in him representing the Democrats or the USA as President. As much as I don't like John McCain, since Hilary is not in the race I will have to vote for McCain. And I don't think Hilary should be VP. She deserves better than that. So maybe I'm not a new voter anymore, but my vote this fall cannot be for Obama.
