Concerned Citizen, you really shouldn't talk about Obama voting "Present" when he was in the Illinois State Senate, a body where voting Present is a commonly accepted practice among all the Senators. You are making me just itch to tell the world the truth about McCain's voting record (or lack thereof).

In the first session of the 110th Congress (2007), McCain holds the dubious honor of missing, by a wide margin, more votes than any other Senator save one. The only one who missed more? That would be Senator Tim Johnson, who was recovering from a brain hemorrhage.

The Washington Post has a database that tracks vote missed in the Senate. McCain missed a whopping 261 of 468 votes, about 56%. And it not because he wasn't there in the building. He refuses to vote on any bill that is controversial or that he might be criticized for. Consequently, he votes on almost all of the silly votes (like "Name a Daisy Day") but fails to be in the room when really important stuff is going down, like votes concerning the war in Iraq. Senator Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader became so angry with McCain about this that he took him task for it right on the Senate floor, saying "Senator McCain has spent considerable time defending the President on Iraq, but has only managed to show up for four of the last fourteen Iraq votes."

In case you think I made that up, I will give you a reference: "McCain Missed Votes on Iraq Triggers Reid Rebuke" published in The Hill, May 17, 2007.

You may be asking why would McCain not want to vote on Iraq? Because he already knew then that he would be running for President, and he knew the war was increasingly unpopular, and he didn't want the Democrats to be able to point to his record and say "Look how he votes on Iraq."

McCain has also missed important votes on national security, funding of law enforcement, equipment for firefighters, and of course, his most recent no-show, on giving veterans the GI Bill. In fact, McCain misses more than half of his votes.

I could write at least five more blogs about how McCain is failing as a Senator by refusing to vote, giving lots of details. And my information is true, with references that can be verified. You write smears about Obama, take one true thing and amplify and distort it into a complete exaggeration, and offer no sources for your information.

I promise you that every time you do that, i will respond with more true facts about John McCain, and as far as McCain is concerned, the truth hurts. I don't care if you criticize Obama or say that you don't like him, but make sure that the "facts" you use are correct or I will rebut them with REAL stuff about your candidate that will really make you wish you hadn't started this whole smear campaign against Obama.

core democrat in texas. First of all you don't even possess the stones to describe yourself as a republican. I can't say as i blame you.

I'll let you answer your own question. What would call a person who knows that his President and most of his cabinet manufactured evidence to fool the world into supporting an invasion of iraq? What would you call a person willing to sacrifice 4000 plus of our young women and men to justify that evil deed? What would you call a person who would continue to sacrifice our soldiers for the next several years in that cooked up war?

I guess you would call a person who fits that description a patriot?

    • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 5:58:47 PM

I would call them a person with an opinion different than mine.
Bush and Cheney called everyone who disagreed with them on the war unpatriotic.
I see your thinking as the mirror image of theirs.

      • Posted By: bella12 @ 06/06/2008 6:04:15 PM

Ok, time to grill so i'll give you the last word. Please don't look upon this as adifference of opinion. By now only a person living in a cave disputes the fact that Bush/Cheney/Powell/Rice and Rumsfeld cooked up fake evidense to invade Iraq. If you view that as a differeence of opinion I can't change it. vote for McCain and continue the sacrifice. it's yourself you must live with.

        • Posted By: Nins @ 06/07/2008 1:30:16 AM

Even the people living in caves (and I do mean bin Laden) know that Bush/Cheney and Company (and I do mean ExxonMobile) cooked up the whole "weapons of mass destruction" thing. They were after Iraq's extensive oil supply. For God's sake, they can't even plan a war properly. Didn't they even consider the fact that the Iraquis would blow up all the wells and the refineries, and that the ensuing civil war and chaos would keep us from being able to rebuild the infrastructure and get at the crude oil? I mean, duh, they could have thought it out a little better.

And when McCain talks about occupying Iraq for 100 years, he means occupying their oil wells. It's not just some funny coincidence that Bush's family are billionaire oil magnates, or that Cheney owns chunks of Haliburton. Nice cozy little cash cow they've got going there. Withdraw from Iraq? Leave all that oil, all those business opportunities behind? I don't think so.

When the Obama administration issues dozens of permits to Exelon to build nuclear reactors all over the country, then you and I and our children and their children will live with the radiation poisoning and cancers from the inevitable spills and with the "interim" nuclear waste storage facilities that the nuclear industry is building in the western states.

coredemocratin texas, I guess you've taken me wrong. I was a Hillary supporter in Florida right up until Thursday. I not only voted in the florida primary but stood in the sun with a few hundred more to chose the delegates that would attend. I have some hard feelings about the way thing worked out but I'm not voting to kill soldiers just to spite Obama

    • Posted By: Nins @ 06/07/2008 1:21:31 AM

Thank you Bella! God bless you.

    • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 6:42:59 PM

I'm sorry. I misjudged you. I was angry about the media, but that does not influence my vote.
I've done a lot of research on energy companies and the nuclear industry, and Axelrod, and their "plans" before they even chose Obama. (They began their plan in Texas about 2004 -- not a conspiracy nut -- I know people who were involved).
There are other factors too. I would have happily voted for any other dem candidate (maybe not Gravel). But yes, I think Obama would be worse than McCain dragging out the war for 4 more years.

  • Posted By: Concerned Canadian @ 06/06/2008 10:38:35 PM

Obama has no plan. He has a thousand promises to keep. Who will pay for all these goodies ? You.

Obama has at least 10 close friends that either belong in jail or committed to a nuthouse.

Nobody even wants to be his running mate. Whats that tell you ? He didn't win the primary race on his own merit...the DNC picked him up and carried him across the finish line. His victory is an 'empty' win.

    I see it unfolding as such. The 18 million supporters for Hillary are gonna do one of three things;
    1 ) Vote McCain
2 ) Sign up as Independant
    3) Write in

  • Posted By: bella12 @ 06/06/2008 4:39:13 PM

mccainwillwin, is a coward who would vote to send our young, best and bravest to their deaths in Iraq to justify his party's existance. What kind of a person could do that. He knows the war was created by his party using manufactured evidence.. He knows that McCain will continue that war. He knows several thousand more will die in iraq. He is clearly a traitor to his country.

    • Posted By: tiredofobama @ 06/06/2008 5:10:29 PM

Like your party never lied to the American people about going to war. The Gulf of Tonkin is a good example of Dems lying.

      • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 06/06/2008 9:43:35 PM

And you will recall that the lies about the Gulf of Tonkin, among others, made Johnson unelectable and led to the defeat of the Democratic ticket. Many of my liberal, college-educated friends voted for Nixon just because "we needed a change." (I hope they came to regret it, however.) The same is true of McCain. Once people realize that their government lied to them, they throw the rascals out and hope things will get better with different rascals

    • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 4:58:31 PM

You sound like George W. Bush, Cheney, and Joseph McCarthy all rolled up in one. If someone disagrees with you, they are unpatriotic traitors.
Do you plan to call everyone who votes for McCain a traitor? Do you also consider McCain a traitor?

  • Posted By: GregHere @ 06/06/2008 9:33:42 PM

..............................George W. Bush........The LAST White American President....Barack Obama and his charisma mark the LAST American President from the Caucasian race. Bush has forged his legacy as a failure and dangerous looser in office and Obama will have an easy time of it defeating Senior John McCain in November. Obama will form a colation of United Minorities bringing together the various minority groups who have resentment against the white race who had previously held leadership. They will be accompanied by radical, disgruntled whites who will help the United Minorities gain a second term with Obama then place another minority in power after that, it will be "another minorities turn" for power. America will be turned upside down with this new Minority Majority...............this is the CHANGE that Obama is talking about!!!!

Core democrat in texas. the general statement 'the war is bad" doesn't get it. Wars for ligitimate causes are acceptable. The Iraq war is a crime and your candidate is going to continue it at the expense of our young soldiers. If you think the president of the US has a grip on the economy, I think you're wrong. The Presidents job is to protect and defend. The person you plan to elect will do neither. how can you trust someone who knowingly continues a war he knows is wrong. I've got a Righty buddy I fish with occassionally who said McCain can't come out against the war or he would lose the Republican support. I believe that is exactly the case. This is not about value of your house. It's about the value of the lives of our best and bravest young men and women.

    • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 6:34:59 PM

Some people think all war is bad. Should we have gotten involved in Rwanda? Some think it was unethical that we did not, that we allowed the slaughter of millions - basically a genocide. Bill Clinton says his biggest regret was not sending troops in.
Was our involvement in Bosnia right? I think so, but many republicans opposed our involvement in that war.
Was Reagan right to send troops to Grenada? I don't think so; some think it was the greatest thing we ever did.
Then there's our aid to Nicaraguan rebels? Repubicans thought it heroic; I thought it was self-serving and imperialistic.
War's a hard issue. I think Bush was idiotic to invade Iraq. I think we need to get out. But I think we have to consider the safety of the troops and the people who worked with us over there, and withdraw sensibly. I certainly don't think there's any cause to be "won".
But yes, I still think an Obama administration is far more dangerous. I know you disagree, and there's no point in trying to convince you. But I am not a traitor, and I suspect that i have been an active, solid democrat for longer than you. But there are some dangers so grave that they transcend party affiliation.

  • Posted By: peace and love @ 06/06/2008 4:06:27 PM

Is there anything that this current administration didn't screw up?

    Just wondering.

    • Posted By: bella12 @ 06/06/2008 4:30:55 PM

Yes, they didn't screw up their plan to loot the surplus we had when Bill Clinton left. They didn't screw up their plan to send our jobs over seas. they didn't screw up their plan to raise gas prices. They didn't screw up their plan to sacrifice our young soldiers in iraq who died fighting for a phony cause.

They didn't screw up their chances to be added to the list of the most infamous traitors the world has ever seen..

      • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 4:59:52 PM

Who did you say left a surplus?

        • Posted By: bella12 @ 06/06/2008 5:03:43 PM

Bill Clinton left a surplus. do you dispute that?

          • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 6:04:19 PM

You're exactly right. Just wanted you to say it again.
As I recall, you had nothing but evil names for Bill Clinton last month.

          • Posted By: McCainwillwin @ 06/06/2008 6:00:34 PM

Yeah, but if you use that surplus to replace every thing he and hillary LOOTED from the White House, it would have been a deficit . : P

Tired of obama, That's a fair statement but it doesn't mitigate future sins. I'd like to refer you to a book if you can still get it called. The Bright Shining Lie. It cronicles the Veitnam war from start to finish. More than 55,000 of our best died for nothing in that war. Ho chi Minh promised prior to wwII that he would get around to pushing the usurping mandarin chinese into the sea and he did. We had no business in that civil dispute either. excuse my spelling i'm not sure of some of the words.

I know you're not saying that since the Democratic like JFK and LBJ did it, it's ok if Bush/Cheney etal did it You actually make a point your fellow republicans have denied. There is a definitely parallel between the two.too.

What???s on the Michelle Obama Rant Tape?
    Here???s what???s known so far:

The Michelle Obama Rant Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women???s Event.

Michelle Obama appeared as a panelist alongside Mrs. Khadijah Farrakhan and Mrs. James Meeks.

Bill Clinton spoke during the Conference, as did Bill Cosby and other speakers, but not at the panel Michelle attended.

Michelle Obama spoke at the Women???s Event, but referenced Bill Clinton in her rant ??? his presence at the conference was the impetus for her raving, it seems.

For about 30 minutes, Michelle Obama launched into a rant about the evils of America, and how America is to blame for the problems of Africa. Michelle personally blamed President Clinton for the deaths of millions of Africans and said America is responsible for the genocide of the Tutsis and other ethnic groups. She then launched into an attack on ???whitey???, and talked about solutions to black on black crime in the realm of diverting those actions onto white America. Her rant was fueled by the crowd: they reacted strongly to what she said, so she got more passionate and enraged, and that???s when she completely loses it and says things that have made the mouths drop of everyone who???s seen this.

The ???tape??? is a DVD that Trinity United sold on its website, and possibly offered free for download up until March 2008 when Trinity???s site was scrubbed and the DVDs were no longer offered for sale.

This outburst happened just one month before the 2004 Democratic Convention, when Barack Obama delivered the keynote address.

    NOBAMA!!!

Dubious... to say the least you would rather have a Pres. with a worse economic plan than Bush??? And that will keep us at war for 100 years??? You may as well relocate to Zimbabwe they have all of the aforementioned!!!

      • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 5:19:22 PM

The war is bad and needs to be ended, as quickly as is safe for the troops and staff.
But McCain's economic plans are resonable and based on market forces. The democrats housing foreclosure plan funnels billions of taxpayer dollars to banks and other lenders and builders. Also, it provides government insured loans ,even if the loan is more than the value of the house and even if the borrower does not make enough money to afford the house. That's just plain nuts.

  • Posted By: Tommypie @ 06/06/2008 5:14:37 PM

Obama will at least prevent all the tree huggers and peacenics from falling off the rolls. Beyond that , I don't know. Welfare recipients and free loaders will vote for him too. More moola for them and less for me. He'll steal even my pocket change through excessive taxation to pay for his ill-advised entitlements and additional welfare programs.

  • Posted By: misterharban @ 06/06/2008 1:54:34 PM

Reforming the electoral system might be worth considering -- the day after the Democrats reform the way that they select their presidential candidate. It appears that the Democrat leadership has no faith whatsoever in the ability of plain old voters to select candidates within the bounds of one-man one-vote. It is hard to buy the Democrat line that the electoral system needs reforming when they can't even get their own act straight.

    • Posted By: tiredofobama @ 06/06/2008 5:06:42 PM

Amen. The Democrats seem to always shoot themselves in the foot and continue to pick the most left leaning (beyond even liberal) candidate. Starting with McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, (Clinton was probably the least left leaning of this group), Gore, Kerry, and Obama. An out of touch with reality group. Of course, the militant moveon.org et al, is too stupid to look for someone who is a pragmatist.

    • Posted By: McCainwillwin @ 06/06/2008 3:14:08 PM

And they have the audacity to think they can run the government! LOL!!! Fortunately, the electorate won't fall prey to their charade.

      • Posted By: Alvy @ 06/06/2008 3:58:35 PM

Yeah. We need someone to run the Gov't the same as Bush. Like McCain.

        You are so stupid.

        • Posted By: McCainwillwin @ 06/06/2008 4:33:22 PM

I wouldn't talk about stupid if I were you. You will see on election day when your LOSER goes home and McCain wins the presidency. You're going to look pretty stupid for supporting ANOTHER LOSER!

    • Posted By: Rocky2001 @ 06/06/2008 1:55:46 PM

      Amen....LMAO!!!

  • Posted By: Duuude007 @ 06/06/2008 3:32:43 PM

I support a caucus system that allows the option of absentee ballot. best of both worlds, accessibility and vote fraud management.

    • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 5:01:21 PM

If there were ballots, it would be a primary.
      Caucus = no ballots.

    • Posted By: bella12 @ 06/06/2008 4:51:04 PM

      A caucus without a caucus?

  • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 06/06/2008 3:21:51 PM

Supporters of Sen. Clinton are correct in thinking that wining the white house will be much easier if we all come tother, which is what I pray for. But those that are considering and/or planning to vote for McCain out of anger that she did not win the nomination really need to remember that Sen. Clinton's and Sen. McCain's policies and views are 100% opposite (with the exeception of the gas tax holiday) while Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama's are very very similiar.

Without your vote, there is a very good chance that we will not win the White House and if that happens you will be the cause of 4 more years of Bush's policy, thousands of more deaths of our young soldiers etc. If you vote for McCain and he wins, you will not have the right to complain, because he will be the president that you voted in,

    • Posted By: Core Democrat in Texas @ 06/06/2008 4:48:45 PM

Anger may be a motivation for some Clinton supporters, but it is not the sole motivation, nor is anger even a factor in many democrats' decision to vote for Obama.
You may prefer to believe that it's just a matter of anger; but that assumption keeps you from seeing the whole picture.
Based on Obama and his campaign, I believe that he would be very dangerous for the country and destructive to the democratic party. I know that you disagree, but if you accept that some democrats hold that view, then perhaps you can understand that although they disagree with McCain on many issues, they still believe that an Obama presidency would be worse.
So comments about anger, hurt feelings, party unity, etc, are not relevant to the issues of Obama's qualifications and the potential consequences of an Obama presidency.

Let us not deceive ourselves. The election system was intended to deprive certain people of a voice (African Americans, for example), and to fix the outcome of elections. This is not so easily accomplished in this day of instant communication. There are many things that can be done. All states should have a one-person-one-vote system -- no more caucuses. Iowa and New Hampshire are great states, but they are not representative. The order in which states vote should vary from year to year. The "Democratic" party needs to re-vamp its rules. Super-delegates should not be allowed to declare until after all primaries have concluded.
