I am a soldier doing my second year in a foriegn country.(IRAQ) I seriously believe that any man who has the power to send me and my brother and sisters to war, should have himself been to war. A wise man said once that "THOES WHO WISH TO REAP THE BLESSINGS OF FREEDOM; LIKE MEN MUST UNDERGO THE FATIGUES OF SUPPORTING IT". I know Mr. Obama has no idea what that means, and even though he can give a speach like he does; he dosen't. I just hope that who ever wins the presidency, that they allow us to complete the job that we were sent here to do.

      BTW--

Thank you for your sacrifices. Don't believe the conservatives....we ALL value your contribution.

Truth is.. the liberals/democrats hate the troops. I saw the idiots with my own eyes holding signs that said "theank God for dead troops". I just wish they were all that honest- stop lying to yourselves and quit lying to the troops who make this country great! SEMPER FI 3/2 Lima!

I am a centrist democrat who served in Vietnam ... and Iraq is just like that war ... it could have been won had the sad old men in charge let us do it when it was doable ... but that time is long past. I WILL VOTE for Obama!!

Marc, do not be angry at those that do not voluntarely serve it demeans your service. Those of us who serve do so, so that others do not. It does not buy us more credability or mack us better Americans. We do understand what it means to scarifice. However, we must beleive that if any American were put in the spot were they had to respond they would. Take pride in your sevice,do not use it to demean others. Use your time protecting this country to lift others up

You are there, as I was. I was a great soldier. The military made me strong. Yet, I find that too many soldiers just buy into the BS that's told to them. I am a veteran and a liberal. I'm not sure what the "bleeding Heart" discription is all about. Get your head out of your a**, do what you signed up to do, right or wrong, then when and if you get out. Educate your mind.

TRY BEING A VICTIM [SERVICE MEMBER] OF CHARLES WILSONS WAR!!! I WAS. SAME BLOOD SAME SAND, DIFFERENT TIME. YOUR THERE, BECAUSE WE WERE!! I SPEAK OF AFGANISTAN ONLY, IRAQ WAS, IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE! A HUGE EXPENSIVE [TO THE THIS COUNTRY] FOLLY. "SOLDIERS DO NOT FAIL, LEADERS DO, AND START AT THE TOP" AFTER ALL IT'S THERE PROFIT TOO! YOU GUYS DO AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB, WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, AND WE, HAVE NOT GIVEN YOU ALL YOU NEED, TO LIVE. AS A PEOPLE, "I'M SO VERY SORRY FOR THIS". IT SHOULD BE A PRIORITY TO BUSH, BUT IT'S NOT AND THAT AIN'T RIGHT OR YOU WOULD BE WEARING DRAGONMAIL BODY ARMOUR AND CARRYING ISRAEILI LIGHT WEAPONS, INSTEAD OF "JAM IN THE SAND" P.O.S.! YOU KNOW I SPEAK THE TRUTH.

Thanks for your service but to say the commander in chief must be a veteran is wrong. Eliminate Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR and see what the country would look like. Yes, there were great Presidents that were veterans: Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike and JFK. But to make it a requirement doesn't make any sense.

      • Posted By: joe_mama @ 06/09/2008 6:27:31 PM

        and let's not forget:

        Ike earned a draw in N. Korea;
LBJ and Nixon (both veterans) lost Vietnam

and, as you mentioned FDR (no experience) and Woodrow Wilson (no experience) did just fine managing us through two world wars.

Finally, the poster boy of the conservatives, Ronald Reagan, never saw action. He served in the reserves and was kept stateside (due to nearsightedness) during WWII.

THAT is something I can agree with .... I think you should finish the job you were sent there to do....with the tools and protection you need to accomplish the mission....and to be treated with dignity and respect upon your return, especially when you are injured physically or mentally. I pray that whoever is elected provides for you better than the Bush administration has. God Bless - and keep the faith. Freedom and democracy will prevail. You are doing good, and making a difference in the world. Signed; a Clinton supporter and undecided voter!

I think that every day you are there you are completeing your mission with honor adn dignity. Howerver, It is the civilian leader ship of this country that set the goals for those missions. When we elect a new President those goals will change and you wil without a doubt meet them with unparalleled success.

    OldGamer007 - Re: your comment

"McCain sided with bush on 95% of his votes (Stupid is as stupid does). But then again, he'll say he is for change, and the same people who deemed others unpatriotic for not drinking the WMD Kool-aid will believe him as well."

    My response:

Let's face it, leading up to the Iraq war, we all were force-fed the WMD Kool-Aid. We all got buffaloed! Bottom line is we're in Iraq now and we have no other choice but to mop up the mess that ???W??? got America into???the best we can anyway.

Contrary to Dem believe, we just can't pack up our bags and leave. You kidding me; that would be like handing over Iraq to Iran on a silver platter. The rogue leaders of Iran our licking their chops right now. They're hoping and praying that BO gets elected so that he'll start pulling out the troops immediately so that they can move right in! Talk about instability in the Middle East!!!

Right now, Israel shaking in their boots! BO will never pass the Jewish smell test. The Israelis no what time it is. Heck, they're not taking any chances. They're already starting to take precautionary measures, such as building up their arsenal, in the event that BO somehow gets elected.

BO has got a lot of shady funding coming in from questionable sources. Anybody that really believes he's getting all his money from a bunch of college kids at $25 bucks a pop is simply naïve.

    • Posted By: jdtseattlewa @ 06/09/2008 2:56:42 PM

But , Concerned, that's exactly the scam! Now that the Iranians have been sucked into it, we bow out, and leave the mess for them to spend their energy on trying to control it! A master piece of bait and switch, you see? This is six decades of Sunni-Shi-ia r****k. (yes, I'm being a little sarcastic) I wish I had a fix for the mess "W" and friends has gotten us and them ( the poor Iraqi's) into. I don't, I just know what the price of the conflict is doing to our freedom of action in many many directions, military jut being one of them.

      • Posted By: Concerned Ctzn @ 06/09/2008 9:01:11 PM

Hey jdtseattlewa, good point! A mess it is!!!!

    • Posted By: OldGamer007 @ 06/09/2008 12:23:58 PM

No, we all didn't fall for the WMD crap.... A third of the country (who watched things like c-span and were kept informed) knew it was BS. A third of the country didn't drink the republicans kool-aid and I want a president who is smarter then me (not dumber, whets McCain grade point average? a C? LOL).

Contrary to Repubs believe, we have generals and civilian leaders at the Pentagon that say we can be out of Iraq within a year.

Israel? Are they voting in our election, didn't think so...

BO and shady funding? Prove it! Put up or shut up.

      • Posted By: Nins @ 06/09/2008 1:12:47 PM

Actually, McCain's GPA is closer to an "F" than a "C"

Of cadets in his class of 899 at Annapolis, McCain ranked 894. That's just about last, and certainly a grade of F, being in the lowest one percent of his peers.

I come from a Navy family, and Annapolis rank is everything when it comes to career advancement. Even though his father and grandfather had been four star Admirals, McCain would have not even been accepted as a Naval officer upon graduation. He flunked out. If it weren't for the fact that we were at war with Vietnam and needed warm bodies, McCain never would have gotten in.

      • Posted By: Concerned Ctzn @ 06/09/2008 12:35:13 PM

Good! The sooner we mop up the mess---THE BETTER! I for one am tired of this expensive occupation. If we can be out of that hell hole in one year, and do so without leaving a bigger mess, let's do it!!!!! Bottom line is we need to end the war ASAP! But do so in the most responsible way possible.

        • Posted By: OldGamer007 @ 06/09/2008 1:15:15 PM

Gorilla wars can only be solved through diplomacy and the will of country leaders, not guys toting M16's and AK's. Our military did their job, it's time to bring them home.

[Assuming you know the difference in a Shiite and a Sunni, being McCain doesn't] Iran is Shiite. We took out a Sunni controlled counter weight to Iran (Iraq) and replaced it with a Shiite government. Yet, Maliki will talk to the Iranians but Bush nor McCain will? That's not responsible, it's childish...

  • Posted By: thrakenglarv @ 06/09/2008 8:40:23 PM

I would like to begin by thanking you for your service. As former member of the Army and Natioanal Guard I celebrate all those who chose to serve this country. As a third generation military family member and son of a 20 year retiree I also have great respect for those who re-enlist and what their families give up for their service. However your response does not answer the question of McCains support for veterans. As those that re-enlist are still active members of the service. If your argument is that those that serve more deserve more I agree and I think that the new GI Bill passed by congress is a good starting point and place to build from. If your argument is in line with McCain that it will drive members out of the service, my answer is boost the benefits of servicemembers to increase retention and recruitment. I agree with you that we need to do a better job getting Americans to work. We need a President who will help create quality job in industries that will not leave this country when it is profitable somewhere else. I also agree that it is horrible that those of use who can pay taxes support both those who chose not to work and the tax breaks (corporate wellfare) that supports out capialist system. I guess this is were we may part on taxes. I do not see taxes as a punishment. I see it as my responsibility as an American. This is how my government guarentees my safety, education of the next gerneration, a good economic system, a peaceful transfer of power, ect??? None of these items and too many more to mention do not happen without our tax dollars. While we can disagree on how to disperse tax dollars, we as Americans for the most part do agree that our government has resposibilities that require our tax dollars.

Yes, indeed, the candidate of "substance". The man for sustantive change. Indeed. John McCain is obviously the man to "the country through extremely difficult (republican created) times. Why, just take a look around to see the results of this fine neoCON style of leadership. But don't worry, when these clowns have finally created what they seem to be intent on creating, they will be the chosen ones to rise up to the skies for their presumed reward.

I read about jhon McCains treatment . Its sound to me like the north tried to give him better treatment than other P.O.W. s becaus eof who his grandfather and father were. And poliitcally trying to look better. I looked on huffington post .com they said that page was no longer avalable. or maybe they recanted there statement.. Rather than rationaly trying to defend your position you would rather use profanity instea of logic to gett your point across hey have you ever thought about getting into politcs? Oh yeah and CNN I believe everything they say espeacialy they way they greated us at the port of Mogadisu.

It doesn't make any sense of intelligent arguments at all,John McCain are Lobbyist Horse back riding Candidate. No wonder Obama so gracious not to attack anyone on personnel matters, rather on Political Policy issues only.
I'm wondering why someone with only High School Education background can be better President than those who's having a PHD education like Obama. As he is constitution scholar? While John McCain stand as Candidate in 2008 not even university graduate to be a President.Even Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President of the United States 1861-1865,a Republican, was a Graduated in Law when he was the President.

As a senior voter, I say the last thing we neek this cycle is a president with a lot of experience in the old Washington universe. If you haven't noticed yet, the world is changing and the pace of change is increasing. John never did learn the lesson of Vietnam, and still clings to the idea that we just didn't try hard enough. The whole thing was a tragic mistake to begin with and we just repeated it. In both Vietnam and Iraq we intervened in a political and cultural environment we didn't understand based on a flawed geopolitical world view. Obama has shown more than any other candidate this cycle that he is capable of shedding old assumptions and taking a fresh look at the big picture. If you take the time to familiarize yourself with his many accomplishments it is clear the guy is not only brilliant but has great instincts. I have far more confidence in his ability to come to grips with the problems we will face in the coming years than with any of the other candidates we have had on either side of the aisle.

Obama has nopt shown anything positive. All what he has shown during the debates was that he lacks any knowledge regarding international affairs, worthless ideas regarding the economy.

We had an Obama in the not distant past, he was called Carter, Obama is not bettyer thann Carter, and see what a disaster Carter was to the US and the world.

Who has proved time and time again he doesn't know the difference between Shiites and Sunnies. Please, know what you're talking about before posting comments.

I am still wondering when MR. OBAMA is going to visit us "THE TROOPS" here in IRAQ and find out what the heck we are really doing over here. I'd like to think that a President to be elect. would stop by and see for himself whats really going on. I remember him saying that the SURGE would fail. I know many soldiers took offence to that since we are the ones doing the work here. It is getting alot better not perfect but better, but ask people what going on over here they can only say bad cause of the media. We are doing the job and getting better at it everyday, Europe after WWII wasn't wonderful for 20 years later, its going to take alot of time patience. This is a very complicated task and if we leave now, all the deaths, money, and effort will be for nothing. We as a country must now pull together and realize we came in for other reasons, but its now not later we are here NOW and we need to do the job and not give up. One of my British Counter parts told me a few years ago that AMERICANS DONT KNOW HOW TO LOOSE and hes right we are compassionate people and we finish what we start.

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 06/09/2008 6:33:39 PM

OBAMA DID NOT HAVE THE CHANCE TO VOTE NO! HE STATED WHAT IT WOULD TURN OUT TO BE, HE PREDICTED WHAT WOULD HAPPEN, AND HAS YET TO GET IT WRONG! THIS MAKES LOOKING INTO THE EYES, OF THOSE HE WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO, IF HE WOULD NOT HAVE IT DONE TO HIM, STYLE OF HARD. HEAVY HEARTED!! IT'S EASY FOR MCCAIN, HE VOTED TO DO THE JOB, AND MOST LIKELY FOR MORE THAN JUST THE WTC REVENGE BIT, OR DECLARING WAR ON AN ADJECTIVE? TILL REDEFINED TO A NOUN!!

    • Posted By: raddave @ 06/09/2008 6:33:10 PM

Militarily, we are doing a fine job in Iraq, we always have done a great job in that aspect. Unfortunately, Iraq will only become stabe with a political solution. Which has to come from the Iraqi Government. You cannot compare post WWII Europe to Iraq, because there was no insurgency in Europe after WWII.

    • Posted By: Kboogie @ 06/09/2008 6:20:33 PM

    Pray. A lot.

And hope that the angry Hillary supporters who are claiming they will vote against their own interests and the person their candidate (Senator Clinton) clearly told them best represents her idea and the better of the two options: Senator Obama.

Other than that McCain doesn't have a hope. If either of those two things falls in place, who knows he could. But the Republicans are up against a very tough environment, make no mistake about it.

    • Posted By: bluebloodedLV @ 06/09/2008 7:25:56 PM

It is a complete betrayal of Hillary for her supporters to say they will vote republican. Who do you think Hillary is going to cast her vote for when she steps into the booth in November. You are voting for a platform of ideas, NOT an individual. What about women's reproductive rights? A vote for McSame gives your rights to a bunch of neocon MEN on the Supreme Court. Use your brain!!

Most white people that will vote for Obama will do so as the ULTIMATE apology to blacks for something they never DID! Blacks could care less if Obama had HORNS in his head.
They are bent on electing a SOCIALIST as a source of their RACIAL pride. Why not consider an Alan Keyes? Because he refuses to lay down the WHITEY GUILT card.

Closing yourself off to 1/2 (female) of the population or even 17% (African American) population really limits you. So, Gonzales was a bad Attorney General because he was hispanic? And Rice and Powell were bad Secretarys of State because they are African Americans. And Justice Thomas is a bad justice because he is also an African American? As was Justice O'Connor because she was a woman. I thought we were a better country than that? I thought that's what our troops were fighting for....to keep narrow minded, oppressors in their place. Come to find out, "we" are "them." Hmmmmmm.

undecidestill. I am definitely voting for McCain. Nevertheless, there is nothing constructive in what you just said. There are many very qualified people of different races who would be a good choice for President. Colin Powell, Condi Rice, JC Watts, Alan Keyes, Governor Bobby Gindal of Louisiana (who is a rising star in the Republican Party). So don't play the race card. The reasons that I am not voting for Obama are: 1. he is too liberal on taxation, and 2. I feel that McCain would be better on national security in a dangerous world.

  • Posted By: Kboogie @ 06/09/2008 3:23:19 PM

    Hey guys!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!

From today's Gallup: "Barack Obama is enjoying a modest bump in support following Hillary Clinton's exit from the presidential race. The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update finds Obama leading Republican John McCain, 48% to 42%, among registered voters nationwide.
Obama has consistently held a lead of five to seven percentage points each night since it was reported that Hillary Clinton intended to suspend her campaign. These represent Obama's strongest showing versus McCain to date in Gallup Poll Daily tracking of registered voters' presidential election preferences."

Looks like the Dems are coming together!!!

Oh wait....there's more........ Obama leads McGremlin by 5 points in the Rasmussen Poll.

    Oh happy days!!!!!!!!!!

      • Posted By: bluebloodedLV @ 06/09/2008 6:29:02 PM

If the Democrats raise taxes that will drown the working man and middle America, then how did anyone survive the Clinton years? How come our economy wasn't in the dirt back then? How come unemployment wasn't so high back then? It's because, contrary to republican spew, the Democrats know how to handle the country's pocket book better. They know how to promote a prosperous middle class. Wihtoug a middle class, you have no democracy. The only thing the republicans know is how to give the super rich more money and then turn around and say that if they don't, everyone below them will suffer. No one believes this propaganda anymore!

McSame? What an original quip. As far as high gas prices your own Democratic Party which is now in control of Congress and doing a PATHETIC job is largely to blame for this. There is oil available in the Gulf of Mexico and off the East and West coasts as well as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but the Dems want to sit on their hands. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are largely to blame for this. Imagine if we had Obama, Pelosi, and Reid together to form a troika. Wouldn't that be scary? High taxes and no real energy plan.

I love how the problems with our Country are the Democratic Congress' fault. Bush has been in charge for 8 years and for 6 he had his way with the Republican Congress. The Dems haven't even had a chance to get to all the f*ck ups of the Bush administration. And it's Obama's fault that the economy is bad? Hello, if you had the brains to find unbiased news and information, you would know that our failing economy is exactly what Bin Laden wants, and Bush's policies are handing it to him on a silver platter. If it weren't for this war, do you think our economy would be plummeting? Annoy a conservative, THINK FOR YOURSELF!!!

Copy the whole link into your browser, tell me how today's problems come from anything other than Bush's right-wing-corporation-pandering MISTAKES!!

I don't mind losing my tax breaks, as long as we get the boys home from Iraq.

Oh yeah, whose economic policies are we currently under? McCain is continuing what policies? Obama's economic plan is in direct contrast to what policies? Answer those questions for yourself. You might change your vote.

Frankly, neither Obama nor McCain have a real concrete economic plan. Obama just utters the word "change" a few hundred times and McCain. Well I hope that McCain picks Mitt Romney to be his running mate because Romney is astute on economic matters.

Actually, both economic plans are pretty clear-cut. CNN devoted an entire hour to a "powerpoint' type demonstration of both proposals, bullet-pointing each nuance. Depending on the economic position one happens to be experiencing, will surely affect their vote. More than 95% of America's population would benefit from Obama's plan. Less than 5%, major corporations, and some small businesses will benefit from McC's.

McC's defense is that coporate tax benefits will affect the number of jobs available. Which will lower the unemployment rate...yadayadayadayadayada. It's not accurate to say that Obama's plan hasn't been explained. Those folks are choosing not to listen, or research.

I was, and still am, a Hillary supporter. Sadly, she isn't going to be among my choices in November. I am now in the ranks of the undecided. The title of this article grabbed my attention, "How to Beat a Rock Star.....Substance". It doesn't seem to have worked for Hillary. Perhaps McCain should take a lesson from her campaign.

POLICY,LAWS,WANTS DON'T MATTER WITH A PRESIDENT, NOR MILITARY SERVICE! THE PRESIDNETS JOB, IS TO CHOSE THE RIGHT PEOPLE, TO DO THE RIGHT JOB. OBAMA WILL CHOSE A WAR VET FOR HIS PLANS IN IRAQ, BUT UNLIKE THE GOP OR BUSH AS WE HAVE SEEN! OBAMA WILL [LISTEN] TO THE PEOPLE HE CHOSE IN THE FIRST PLACE. HE IS NOT A SET IN STONE ATTITUDE, LIKE BUSH, THIS HAS RILED THE WORLD,WITH THE TREAT OF VIOLENCE IE:DO AS WE SAY, NOT AS WE DO. THIS MUST STOP. WE NEED TO REBULID THE USA, AND SHOW THE WORLD, WE DO LEAD BY EXAMPLE AGAIN. NOT BY THREAT.

Many of Hillary Clinton's supporters will vote for John McCain in 2008. The DNC and the Media as well as many Obama supporters were unfair and disrespectful to the best candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton. We will send a message to the DNC that they can believe in: No to Obama - the DNC and Media selected candidate.

McCain in 2008 - experience we can count on.

The only reason the republicans liked Hillary is because they knew they could have beat her in the general election. They are really scared that Obama got the nomination because he is inspiring and McBush/McSame cannot even come close to competing with him, they are done for. It's funny how scared they are. The republicans only know negative politics and don't know how to respond to someone like Obama who is so positive, refreshing and motivating! We are sick of the SOS!! Good-bye to the old republican ways of hate politics. All you ditto heads just go listen to Rush and you can all cry together and wallow in your hatred.

Okay so you can vote for a man who is well past his prime, I am seventy and look fifty in excellent health and I can tell you seventy is no spring chicken. Things I use to be able to do no longer are posssible. So go ahead and vote for a man well past his prime and should be out gardening somewhere.

I would respectfully like to disagree with you. I am 46 (Obama's age). My father is 80 and he can do as much if not more than most people half his age. Being young does not insure that you will be better at a job. Judgement and experience should account for something. Unfortunately, we in America love to disrespect people of age. In China, age is treated as something special. Contrary to some posts that I have seen on here from amateur neurologists, I don't feel that McCain has Alzheimers. People point to gaffes by McCain. Obama also made gaffe in San Francisco about "people clinging to their guns and religion."

That complaint about the media being unfair to Hillary was made up by the Hillary campaign. A study done by the Pew Research Center actually shows she had better media coverage.

Yup, John McCain is change you can believe in, just wait long enough and he will change his mind..

Being a Marine and seeing first hand what the media is capable of saying just about anything they want ,to putt enough spin on a topic to gett great ratings and that is all that the media cares about. Dont trust them do your own research

That is myopic. I am not sure any true democrat will vote for that old and wretched McCain because Obama won and Hillary lost. Never dream of such a thing. Old and empty headed McCain will loose. Take dirty politics out he has not message. Shame on McCain and his stupid republicans.

McCain has the audacity to characterize his position as "substance?" What a deceiver. What "substance?" First he voted against tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, and now he is for making them permanent. First he was against torture, and now he votes for bills sanctioning torture. First he was against wire tapping the phones of Americans as prohibited by FISA laws, and now he is voting for giving the telecoms who broke FISA laws immunity. McCain's "substance" is following Bush in all his criminal activity. Heaven help us if this McCain thug deceives his way into the White House. Hopefully Americans have wised up enough after Bush to give Obama a landslide victory.

The republican party is burning and all they could muster for a candidate is a geriatric parrot. Go ahead and call Obama whatever you want, but come January you'll have to call him Mr. President.
