So if a murderer says they "support you" to embarrass someone else who disagrees with you, that means you are now a collaborater with that murderer? How silly your argument is! That someone in Hamas had positive things to say about Obama is not a bad thing. It may mean something ... it may not. What it DOES NOT mean is that Obama sympathizes with their anti-semitic views; he is well known for his pro-Israel positions.

But, WHAT IF it DID mean they would listen to his entreaties to remove the destruction of Israel from their rhetoric ... and could convince them that such talk is counterproductive to their own goals? Now wouldn't that be just swell?

Yet, some of you are so hateful, you don't want anyone to move these folk towards peace; all you want is more war-mongering. Shame on you!

You would be a collaborator if the muderer has been your best friend and your mentor for 20 years!!!!!!

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/09/2008 4:23:37 PM

No. You wouldn't. It doesn't work that way. For instance, when George W. Bush is tried as a war criminal, Colin Powell doesn't automatically get tried as well.

Aside from Obama's middle name "Hussein", one must understand that the American Jewish are very sensitive at the time of voting and also one should must admit that OBAMA IS NOW ALONE, an African American alone, in front of most "Racial Attitudes which poses a Challenge to Obama". Let us be REALISTIC and not dream or believe in nice speeches, that the Democrats might think it will convince the American citizens.

Alone OBAMA is half the way capable to win this battle against McCain, he might have good intentions, good speeches, good replies, but the American people have THEIR OWN QUESTIONS and doubts first on his origin, his middle name Hussein, where does he come from a Kenya family on his father side, about his family's background NOT ONLY IN THE UNITED STATES on his mother's side, BUT IN KENYA, how long did he actually lived in the United States.

I know that all this sounds unfair to him, but that is REALITY, that is how PEOPLE THINK at the time of voting, States like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Florida, some might think he is little too slick and smooth, too young, not much experienced, whether he was born Muslim and raised Muslim, some may be troubled by his ties, now broken, to a former pastor who cursed the United States and accused the government of possible conspiracies against blacks.

ALL THESE QUESTIONS THOUGH UNFAIR TO SOME OF US, are a real way of thinking of American people, they have their values and respects over wearing "wear a flag pin", otherwise they feel and say "Obama's not one of us". In politics you cannot deny what is a reality in the AMERICAN SOCIETY, what is present in the minds of most citizens.

I think IT IS A PRECIOUS TIME, WHICH is already passing and who knows time that will be lost by OBAMA, if he does not react soon and decides to announce and NOMINATE HILLARY CLINTON as the VICEPRESIDENT. Perhaps out of convenience to his present situation, where as an African American, he is NOW ALONE, to face all these problems, all these feelings, all these questions unresolved or with no transparent solution. People might listen to his speeches, but THEY DO NOT SEE AN ORDINARY AMERICAN CITIZEN.

Not to have next to him Hillary Clinton, to back him up and continue to obtain the support of MANY AMERICANS VOTERS for the coming elections. I KNOW LIFE IS UNFAIR SOMETIMES, BUT OBAMA NOW HAS ON HIS SIDE TO ALSO ACCEPT, THAT THERE IS A NEED THAT HE HAS TO FACE, he needs a strong VP like Clinton, IF HE WANTS TO COME STRONG FOR THE ELECTIONS IN NOVEMBER. Recognition of it will make him stronger in the front of American voters, believe me.

I don't believe that most Jews are so small minded to vote against a candidate based on his middle name. I don't believe the most Americans are that stupid either. Good luck Hillary supporters. Obama just gave a brilliant economic speech with (gasp) specific details. The Republicans are in trouble whether or not Hillary Clinton is on the ticket.

Please, he flip flopped on some many things. First he voted to give billions in subisides to the oil, gas & nuclear companies, then he voted to raise credit card rates up to 30%. He also voted to raise college tuition rates/fees and now he says he wants to lower them. Tell him to make up his mind because he seems to have a serious problem with flip flopping whenever it is convenient to him!

        • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/09/2008 4:18:32 PM

You are right. McCain has flip-flopped big time. He not only has changed his views on specific policies, but more importantly he has flip-flopped his values, something far more egregious. Look at McCain's flip-flops on detainee torture for an easy example.

  • Posted By: nonamnesiac @ 06/09/2008 4:15:14 PM

Obama has no Jewish problem. Neo-Con Jews are attempting to race-bait Obama by lying about his religion and commitment to Israel. McCain will get the 20 to 25% of the Jewish population that support the lying, anti-American, Jewish neo-Cons. Obama will get between 70 and 75% of the Jewish vote.

  • Posted By: kestutis @ 06/09/2008 3:46:29 PM

The real question REAL AMERICANS need to be asking is why a statement like, "his loyalty to Israel" isn't making everyone outraged???? The ONLY country the President, or any US politician for that mater should be "LOYAL" to, is AMERICA.

As far as why as why this tiny minority is having it's collective butt kissed? Simple, not only does the American (Israeli?) Jewish community control a lot of campaign dollars (and there for influence), the Christians who are out there waiting for the second coming are also fervently supporting Israel at all costs.

    • Posted By: hello57 @ 06/09/2008 4:09:29 PM

This sounds roughly accurate to me. I often ask myself why mainstream journalists never, in a milder tone, rarely if ever even mention this view and certainly never endorse it. I think, for those who might want to bring it up, it's the thing you must ignore to keep your job. I live in China, and here there are also things that cannot be mentioned if you want to keep your job as a journalist. The dynamics seem the same to me.

total myth- I am a jewish, white, and a woman, and I have been an Obama fan from the beginning. My family is also for Obama. I have never heard of the " Jewish vote" before this year. I think there has been a lot of garbage floating around about who is and is not supposed to be for Obama. I would like to see an end to the catagorizing. I only see 2 groups of people- informed and uninformed.

  • Posted By: hello57 @ 06/09/2008 3:40:24 PM

Let's be honest. The Jewish problem (if there even is such a thing) for Obama would not so much concern the Jewish voters - they are a much smaller minority than blacks and Hispanics, and even smaller than the never mentioned Asian-Americans) - as the Jews in influential positions (in media, for example) who can have a big impact on non-Jewish voters. I may oversimplify this, but it is rarely mentioned in the media when dealing with the issue treated here.

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/09/2008 3:33:26 PM

Did you also hear from that crazy lady Harriet Christian who said she don't care if women looses there rights when McCain help to overturn Roe v Wade. She said she will vote for McCain because she do not want an inadequate black man as the President. She then said she knows that McCain will ruin this country but we need a white man in the White House. The same lady who said she fought for civil rights. This is why America thinks that these women organization are racist. They support people like Harriet Christian.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/09/2008 3:37:15 PM

People are often contradictory. It's sad that this woman chose race as the reason for her distaste for Obama. However, would it have been better had she held in her true racism and disguised it as a more acceptable form of critique? For instance, she could bring up the experience canard.

  • Posted By: hello57 @ 06/09/2008 3:36:13 PM

Jewish problem (interesting expression), were there such a thing, would be a problem, not primarily because of Jewish voters - who are a relatively small minority compared to Latinos, blacks, or even Asians (who are never mentioned) - but due to the powerful positions many Jews hold in media and the resulting influence among many non-Jewish voters. This aspect may be somewhat oversimplified. This may be somewhat oversimplified. But it is totally ignored by most articles on the toppic.

  • Posted By: austin c @ 06/07/2008 12:55:36 PM

This article has neglected to mention an important person, which is Obama's former pastor and spiritual advisor Rev. Wright.
According to Jewish Week, 3/16 : " For months, Jewish Democrats have wondered whether controversy over Wright, the fiery and newly retired pastor of Obama's church in Chicago, might have an impact with Jewish voters in the primaries and in the November election. Wright is an admirer of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan; he has supported divestment against Israel and said that "racism" against Palestinians is the result of Zionism."

    • Posted By: grayforester @ 06/09/2008 3:26:09 AM

So, austin c, can you point out where Wright has been mistaken about the Middle East? You don't think anti-Palestinian racism is a typical byproduct of Zionism? Are you asleep? Racism in both directions emanates naturally from Israel's lebensraum plan like methane over a feed lot. The other two points you make about Wright are specific political policy opinions he holds. I don't think Obama goes to amateurs for policy advice. For that reason I hold that Wright's opinions have no determinative power over Obama's judgment, which seems to me more sound than the judgment of McCain and Clinton. Lying about the Iraq war to the American people shows poor long-term judgment.

I support Israel before i would support america any day. We are at the end times u people need to open a bible and read. You better start listening to your creator, "God", because you all will bow down to Him soon. Believe it or not.

Why is so much commotion made over the support of 1.5% of US population? And how about thinking about the candidates from the perspective of an American instead of a hyphen-American?

  • Posted By: tynamouse @ 06/09/2008 3:24:29 PM

When are we going to stop bringing our feras (that show themselves in racism) to our political process. Anyone who thinks Obama is a Muslim or is going to back stab Israel if he becomes President is a fool or an idiot or maybe just a bigot looking for an excuse to say no to a black man. By the way the chuch he belonged to for all of those years is no different than many churches in America.

  • Posted By: Tuna415 @ 06/09/2008 3:23:50 PM

Why is so much ink devoted to 1.5% of the U.S. population? Enough already!

  • Posted By: 60sretread @ 06/09/2008 3:23:06 PM

I am Jewish and I have supported Obama since he began his campaign. I know he supports Israel. I know some of his key advisors are jewish and strong supporters of Israel. Unfortunately sen. Lieberman has chosen to suport folks like Rev. Hagee who believes God sent Hitler to make way for Israel-a person who McCain himself has just distanced himself from

  • Posted By: expatincebu @ 06/08/2008 7:34:37 PM

We need a politician with "Jewish problem". I am SICK and TIRED of our elected officials sucking up to the Zionist dirtbags, filling their pockets with my tax money, and sacrificing US lives for their greed. Everyone involved in AIPAC is a traitor and should be hung.

    • Posted By: Cazador1972 @ 06/08/2008 8:12:14 PM

I'd not go that far as to say AIPAC are traitors but they do put Israel's interest ahead of anything else. There is just no happy medium; if one agrees with them one is subscribing to a very one-sided policy, if one disagrees one is automatically an "antisemite" with all the ugly stigma that word carries.
I'm tired of every presidential candidate sucking up to get the good graces of AIPAC. I support the state of Israel but by God I support a Palestinian state too, and that means Israel should leave the occupied territories. The US has to stop violating international law (see UN resolutions) when we don't like it and calling upon them when we need them.

Hear hear! Finally a reasonable and reasoned point of view. I am sick to death of these repeatedly posted (over and over again) posts spouting hate and fear mongering re: muslims. Quite a large part of the world is muslim and I do believe we better learn to live together. I'm not talking about the fanatics (christian, muslim or jew) in the world. But if we don't stop equating every muslim with the terrorists that attacked us we will never have a chance.

    • Posted By: pramono @ 06/09/2008 11:01:27 AM

You are a typical Obama supporter, an antisemite and for the destruction of Israel!!
The arabs have over 20 countries, the christians over 50, the Jews are not allowed according to Obama and you to have ONE small country.

Vote for McCain he understands the basic moral questions involved here.

      • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/09/2008 12:58:22 PM

McCain's going to lose. Get used to it.

Republican manipulation: the true point of Obama's "cling to" comments.

It amazes me that Republicans can turn idealogical arguments into votes from SOME working class whites in a way they vote against someone because they are not white. Obama is working for working class whites WAY more than Republicans ever will! Does it also say somethign, that educated and younger whites seem to be mroe color-blind when it comes to voting?

I think some people are REALLY willing to cut off their nose to spite their face. Sad, really ...

I would like to know, how come Isreal can buy there people a home. They don't need a downpayment or anything. They register and they can get a home bought and paid for by the Government. How come we can't handle our housing problem. McCain only want the people like the rich to be helped out if they are hit with housing problems. The middle class and the poor he does not want to help because he feel that they got themselves into it.

  • Posted By: Micky Marsh @ 06/09/2008 2:45:14 PM

The Jews of High rank in those days fought against Christ and delivered him to the cross, but remember also that salvation came from the Jews, they really know how to worship GOD, But I tell you, the hight priest in those days fought against Christ, todays priest would do the same and worst. The truth is, many worship Christ, but they dont know who Christ is. He's not man of high looks and their is no false pride in him, I tell you the truth, even the poor will look down on christ if he should pass them in the street today. They looked at him and said this man couldn't be Christ. I tell you these things because I have seen HIM..

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/09/2008 2:24:04 PM

I think Obama has a very good relationship with the Jewish community. If it was up to Joe Lieberman, Obama don't have a good relationship. Obama wants to use most of that money that we give to Isreal, to our children and senior citizens. Lieberman wants all of that money (over a billion dollars), to go to Isreal. Lieberman do not care for the American people. He care about the people in Isreal. The people in America comes first. And this guy is on McCain's VP list! Lieberman, the biggest joke in America.

    • Posted By: bigjersey @ 06/09/2008 2:31:12 PM

Those two issues are completely separate. Obama will not withdraw the miniscule economic support from Israel, Egypt, or any other middle eastern and African allies. But you're right... he will invest in America again.

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 06/09/2008 2:41:10 PM

Obama will never stop supporting Isreal, but the amount that we give to Isreal is way too much. Isreal gets over 100 billion from Germany alone. We can reduce the amount we give to Isreal.

    "Pro-Palestinian is not by definition anti-Israeli. "

Actually, yes it is, since they are enemies.

    • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/09/2008 1:28:28 PM

No. It's not. Perhaps in the bifurcated worldview of conservative it is. But that doesn't represent reality.

I don't think he's "pro Palestinian". He recognizes that both sides have points and that no lasting peace will occur until both sides come to the table.

What I would say to both Palestinian terrorists and Israeli militants is "How's that working for you?" Terrorism will never win out in Israel because every time a bomb goes off, it becomes easier for Israelis to see Palestinians as less than human. Similarly, Israel wins no hearts and minds by retaliating indiscriminately. Neither will get what they want using current tactics.

      • Posted By: busby @ 06/09/2008 1:55:45 PM

Only time will tell. He does have advisors that are not supportive of Israel. He was reluctant to distance himself from Wright until Wright attacked him as a "politician". And he did speak of a "contiguous" Palestinian state which would mean cutting Israel in half to connect the West Bank and Gaza. Charismatic speakers abound in history. Only a few had truly good intentions. Count me in as having gigantic doubts. One can go back on speeches once one is in the White House.

        • Posted By: Johnsonium @ 06/09/2008 2:24:56 PM

Guilt by association is so unproductive. It shouldn't be a part of either campaign. Let's stick to the issues.

Talking about Obama's Jewish problems; A fact or a myth. We all know that it is a fact. Well! Here are the "Top Five" reasons the Democratic National Committee (DNC) gave the delegates of Michigan and Florida to Obama :
    1. Barack Hussein Ossama is Black.
    2. The DNC did not want Michigan and Florida to be burned by black people just like the events of the Los Angeles 1992 riots.
    3. The DNC needs the vote of about 99% black people in order to remain in power.
    4. Keith Oberman did threathen the DNC that he will run as a communist candidate and steal all of the black vote from the DNC.
    5. Howard Dean overheard Sen. Hillary Clinton said that she would stop all the welfare checks that were intended to black people if elected president in order to make them pay for their ingratitudes toward former President Bill Clinton.

The Muslim leader is one Imam Hassan Qazwini, head of the Islamic Center of America, based in Michigan.

Imam Hassan Qazwini, head of the Islamic Center of America, said in an email that he met with Obama at Macomb Community College. A mosque spokesman, Eide Alawan, confirmed that the meeting took place. During the meeting, the two discussed the Presidential election, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the Iraq war, according to Qazwini.

        {snip}

The meeting with Obama came about after Qazwini had asked David Bonior, the former U.S. Rep. from Michigan, if he could meet with Obama during his visit. Qazwini was not selected to be part of a group of 20 people who met with Obama, but Qazwini later got a private meeting with Obama, Alawan said.

Debbie Schlussel has more background on Qazwini.

I???ve written about Qazwini and his mosque for almost a decade. He is tight with the Government of Iran, and he is an agent of the Iranian government, spreading its propaganda. He was sent to the U.S. by Iran to help radicalize his mosque, the Islamic Center of America, which???at the time???was becoming moderate with women not covering their hair and mixing with men. All that has changed, under Qazwini.

Qazwini is very open about his support for Palestinian homicide bombings, HAMAS, and Hezbollah. And he???s a good friend of Hezbollah spiritual leader, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah???the man who issued the fatwa to Hezbollah terrorists to murder over 300 U.S. Marines and U.S. Embassy civilians in cold blood. Qazwini???s mosque has held rallies and celebrations in support of Hezbollah, and many of Hezbollah???s biggest money-launderers and agents in America are his congregants.

When I went undercover to his mosque in 1998, he and others welcomed Nation of Islam chief racist Louis Farrakhan as ???our dear brother??? and ???a freedom fighter.??? Qazwini applauded Farrakhan???s anti-Semitic statements saying that Jews were the ???forces of Satan??? and that there needed to be a ???jihad??? on the American people.

So tell me again, why Jews, or anyone should support an Obama Presidency?

Do any of you remember James ???Yousef??? Yee? He was that former Army Muslim chaplain charged with espionage while serving at Gitmo. It turns out that Yee will represent Obama for Washington state at the Democratic National Convention.

The two are a perfect match. Obama promises to not only close Gitmo, but ???reform??? the USA Patriot Act. He apparently plans to take those steps in between tea parties with state sponsors of terror.

Since the Pentagon in 2004 dropped charges against him, Yee has become a poster boy of the anti-war movement. He???s cashed in on his ignominy with a book claiming he was the target of ???sheer bigotry??? and was silenced for exposing ???systemic??? abuse of prisoners at Gitmo.

One of his biggest boosters in Washington is Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the Muslim convert who insisted on taking the oath of office on the Quran. Ellison is an Obama superdelegate who???s been doing advance work for Obama???s planned tea parties in the Middle East.

Last month, he told an Egyptian weekly that Yee???s ???case was dropped because there was no case to begin with.???

Nice try. Here are the facts:

      1. Yee was caught returning to the U.S. with maps of Gitmo prison facilities, among other classified materials, and was arrested at a U.S. airport.

      2. He was charged with espionage, mishandling classified documents and lying to investigators.

      3. He served hard time in a South Carolina stockade.

      4. Two of his Muslim cronies at Gitmo were convicted of stealing or mishandling classified documents.

      5. Far from being exonerated, the military dropped charges against him to protect national security.

Guantanamo commander Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, who originally accused Yee of spying, explained that there were ???national security concerns that would arise from the release of the evidence??? if the case moved to trial.

There???s no question that Yee, a captain who converted to Islam, was sympathetic to al-Qaida and Taliban captives at Gitmo.

At times, in fact, he acted more like a defense attorney for the terrorists. He complained that guards subjected them to cruel ???abuse??? and ???psychological torture.???

Waterboarding? Electric shock? No, they committed the sadistic act of mishandling copies of the Quran that Yee had made sure each inmate received.

Terrorist supporters of a feather flock together.
