What they have found in different species is that females (particularly) will not mate with certain males - until a specie that displays only homosexual attributes is introduced to the group. In various studies with birds females who absolutely would not mate with their male counterparts changed their tune once a bird displaying homosexual tendencies was placed into the group. And then for all you pro-creation baby lovers, wallah! - a baby was born! Now I know many of you will say "what the hell do birds have to do with humans". A lot, because it's not about the actual specie, it's about how God almighty himself devised a way for life to find a way. Fast forward to me. I met my wife through my best friend, who is gay. I knew her for years and she never paid the slightest attention to me. She believed (as she told me in later years) that she was convinced she could change him and that he was sexually confused. As time passed she realized two things. First she realized that he was gay, and nothing was going to change that. Second, she realized that she was falling in love with ME. If there wasn't the association with my friend our paths would have never crossed, and the time we spent to get to know each other over several years as a result of that situation would have never occurred. She was around me, because he was around me. Life and love found a way for us to fall in love, get married - and even have a baby!! Therefore, since it's constructed in life's DNA for homosexuality to exist, I think we can honor these people the same protections under the law that any married couple affords. We devised marriage and the laws that govern it. We did not devise homosexuality. There are some things bigger than all of us.....

I???m posting this in 2 parts:
Blackcat - you are actually close; but not exactly accurate. To compare homosexuality to Downs Syndrome or to say something is 'messed up' with ones DNA does not correctly define or align homosexuality with the reason for its existence. Now I hate to be the bearer or bad news, because I know everyone must have a black and white answer to matters such as homosexuality, but modern day perception and judgment of it is barbaric at best. I will try to explain this as best I can, although it is extremely complicated (yes, even more complicated than the Bible itself!). Nature itself is comprised of checks and balances. What we do know about homosexuality is that it is commonly found across many species. Scientist are now discovering that the reason it exists is because it actually assists in the pro-creation of species. Yep, for those of you who base your entire opinion of homosexuality on that clever rhyme 'God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve' - you may want to reconsider the nursery rhyme educational simplicity here. God may have made Adam and Eve (even this is up for debate) but he (she, it) needed Adam and Steve as well as Amanda and Eve to provide certain checks and balances throughout the human race - and as I said earlier - even procreate. There are many examples here - but very difficult to explain - especially to someone who's only background in the matter is "But the Bible says...". I will offer this example, as it is one of the most simple; and coincidentally has a lot to do with me.

More of an informational addition. I found it interesting that Newsweek choose to mention that Mr. Swenson was "raised in a conservative Lutheran household," but failed to mention that Bethel University is a Baptist university. It's not that the article is inaccurate, but I just wish it would have been more complete in its details.

i wonder if people realize that the Bible is largely a product of Man. Not only were the books the interpretation of the words of God by Man, but that even the construction of the Bible itself was formed by men. The canonical texts as we now know it were determined by the Niceaen Council. There are hundreds of other texts that were excluded, not to mention the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Library. And I won't even get into how organized religion is also largely a product of Man.
Open your mind to the possibility that not everything in the Bible is the Word of God. It was meant to be a guidline for love and peace, not a rigid set of laws.

The Bible, and many other religious teachings, support that mankind is fallen, distorted, and prone to sin. If we are fallen, doesn't it stand to reason that ALL of us is fallen? Including our DNA, genetic material, chromosomes, etc.? The fact is that no one knows what causes homosexuality...yet. It is my belief that, from what I have heard and read and learned from gays themselves, homosexuality is much like Downs Syndrome in that chromosomes get messed up, wires get crossed. I believe it is not a choice on their part. And it has occurred since the beginning of time.

My hope is that science will allow us to better understand being gay and sexual identity, and that Christian colleges and organizations should lead the way in seeking to love these students while challenging them to maintain sexual purity, like they do for every individual. I see no reason, however, why gay students should not have an organized group on campus???not to ???push an agenda??? but that they may find solidarity in learning from others who face the same their same challenges. The same is offered to other students with common interests.

Love Christ. Love others. Seek to understand.

It is really hard to hear people only take certain parts of the Bible and twist it to fit their agenda. Yes, Jesus taught love, and in his teachings he says one of the ways to show your love is to keep the commandments. Homosexuality is a sin. On the other side, christians do need to remember to hate the sin NOT the sinner. This does not mean accept the homosexuality neither does it mean to treat the person with hate. You have to show the love of Christ to the person, so that maybe they will through Christ's strength abandon their sin. Because it is without question a sin. The great news is there is repentance and forgiveness through Christ's shed blood.

All people are born sinful according to the Bible. Just because I might want to take something that isn't mine on occasion doesn't mean that I should. Just because another person is attracted to the opposite sex doesn't mean they should live a life of open sinning either. We all have challenges placed in our path; true Christians overcome these obstacles to the glory of God. There are those who are not Christian and are free to live as they choose, but they don???t then have to go to a Christian school and try to force their non-Christian views on those who wish to live in the way Jesus taught. Jesus taught compassion, but he also taught right and wrong. Sorry if you are tempted into sin, but we all are; some simply handle it better than others.

I attend a Christian University in Canada with a similar covenant. And I signed it and have kept it as best as I can. I am straight, but I have some a couple gay friends here who are out, which is a pretty big step here. Fortunately, there is a pretty open dialogue among the student. We are not without both wishy washy anything goes liberal opinions and hardline conservative judgmental opinions, but the dialogue is going. That That is not to say that our covenant will be changing, but maybe that's not what needs to change as much as the hearts of Christians to be loving everyone for who they are, regardless of what they do. We need people who take seriously Jesus and the Gospel. I have one friend who is out who is still a devout Christian and is keeping abstinent. I have a lot of respect for his faith, for doing something much harder than I ever have.

Here again another sick liberal "Lisa Miller", trying to undermine Christianity. We have enough of your lies. You and your other liberal friends in the media are destroying our country. Why don't you move to the Netherlands and pursue your liberalism! Leave us alone with your deranged rhetorics!!!!!!!
