The gyms around me dont allow children unless they are 12yrs or older. For those under 12 they have a daycare thats only $2

Farting, peeing in the shower, cruising in the locker and steam rooms.... Can't a guy get a work out without getting wizzed on or looked at as a hot piece of meat?

Ok here's one I can't stand...our shower don't have curtains so there's always a guy who thinks he has to spend extra time washing his privates!!! Gimmie a break man take care of those at home!!

If you feel that uncomfortable then you need to take a shower at home.
Because there will be always someone there who will do those things that make anyone uncomfortable. We live in a society that permits this type of behavior.
Might as well get use to it!

    Bringing your children.
That has to be 1 of the most annoying and disrespectful offenses 1 can do.
They allow them to play on all the equipment and they could hurt themselves badly too!!
Leave your kids at home ladies!!!

I've been working out a long time in various clubs and have witnessed more than half of these over the years. My biggest pet peeve is the cell phone. Can't you go 2 hours without talking on the phone? What did we do before cell phones? My other pet peeve is the grunter. Yeah, we know you're in the gym but I am working out as hard as you and I don't grunt. Great list!

I think people who feel uncomfortable about being stared in the showers should take a shower at home. Those who are from alternative lifestyle will stare whether that person likes or not. Even in the steam room if that person is dumb to go naked then yea he or she deserves to be stared.

I believe bringing your children to the gym is an offense.
It is very annoying and disrepectful of the parent to bring them with them.
    Not to mention dangerous.
They let them play on all the equipment.
    Run around like crazed kids.

What a vague, made up peice of crap list. Whoever wrote this should be slapped in the face.

One word! Deodarant. There is nothing worse than someone only to stgetting on a machine next to you when you're about 30 minutes into your workout when you start to smell a vile, offending odor. It's then you realize it's the person next to you.
This has happened to me a few times and it really annoys me to have to move to another machine because the body odor is just horrible!

  • Posted By: novotna @ 06/09/2008 12:32:06 PM

This list omits the worst gym offense of all--loading up a machine with plates and then leaving them for the next user. This is very common at my gym even though there are signs plastered all over the place saying "Please re-rack your weights." Why are people so oblivious and rude?

    • Posted By: Fireman91 @ 06/09/2008 12:57:52 PM

Totally agree! Many members seem to believe the staff people are there to serve you.
They are there to help you, not serve you!
If you are rude to them or other members your membership should be gladly revoked.
Your membership allows you - a place to exercise, period.

Lastly, just because that person works as a fireman, police officer, and government job that doesnt give that person the right to look down at us working at a gym.

However no one has the right to be rude to anyone because that staff is underpaid and he or she is trying to be good spirits.

Just imagine what germs were on the rocks where she cooked the grilled cheese.... nasty

I was thinking of joing a gym that's on my way home from work but thanks to all of your comments, I've changed my mind. I forgot that people can often be rude, self-centered, disgusting pigs! I realize there are many who aren't but the bad ones ruin it for those of us who simply want to get a good workout without all the exhibitions and obnoxious drama! Someone earlier mentioned open air cycling .... great idea!

YOU'RE NOT EVEN GOING TO MENTION THE SEX!

  • Posted By: Dymend @ 06/09/2008 1:05:19 PM

And the comment on the farting one too... thats another gross one. Which reminds of the horrid smell that the womans bathroom sometimes has... one day it was so bad that i heard at least 3 women complain to the manager..besdies me. IF you stink that bad, keep your nasty self at home or at least wash up..disgusting!

EEEK, people at the gym can be disgusting. A few weeks ago a guy we see often when we go early in the morning came in BOXERS and a stretched out shirt...but boxers, nothing on top. I was really grossed out even more when he sat facing the mirror doing lat pull downs--yuck. I had to leave.

Oh ya, and I saw a comment on farting, I agree that is gross when you walk through a thick cloud of pure smelly nasty-ness. Good call on that one!

There is this woman that goes to my gym and everytime she comes out of the pool or sauna and back in to locker room, she sit down and starts using a pumice stone on her feet. Totally grosses me out. If you have to do it, at least do it in the shower, not there in the locker room!

I can't believe one of the top 2 offenses next to leaving a piece of equipment with sweat dripping off of it wasn't even mentioned. These are people that come in with an odor that is like they haven't used deodorant since before their last workout. I guess it must be true about what is said about Middle Easterners. I speak mainly about the men here and the percentage is way too high.. The women generally don't have the same
issue. As God is my witness their are times being 10 feet away from one is still way too close, ditto with
some Hispanics. Again I speak of the men. The women generally don't seem to have the same problem. You can throw a percentage of white men in there too. It is amazing that the stench some of these people carry as bad as it is wouldn't offend the carriers of it and tell them they have to be offensive to others..
