Until we begin teaching economics in high school, people will continue to live for today, not save for tomorrow and blame the government for the problems that they are contributing to. The government cannot "fix" the economy in the short term because the entire federal budget is too small of a percentage of the GDP to make a difference, even if it was all put back into the economy. The only thing that could be done is long term policies and laws that would prevent people from getting into so much debt. In a "I want it now" society, a policy like that would never get through congress.

To rjsonnier292291- you need to stop being racist. I am a white women and my husband is African American. My husband works two full time jobs to help support our family. You cannot say that African Americans are to blame for the bad economy. They DO NOT RUN the economy. Everyone in this world runs the economy. There are many White, Hispanic, Asian, African Americans, etc. in this country that do not work and do not support their kids. It's not only the African Americans. You should not be judgemental. Maybe you should take a world history class before commenting on African Americans- they are the ones that worked for us when we didn't want to work. You should also take an American Government class too before you blame African Americans for the economy- part to blame is the government and the other part is all consumers. We all have a responsibility to pay our bills, keep our credit clean, and do what is right in this country. There are many people who are low-income workers (as myself) that are not African Americans. I know many African Americans that do right in this world, and provide for their families. I am very upset that you want to blame African Americans for the economy. GET REAL!!!

Carlb has it right. neither of these guys will tell us the truth because the truth is bad. labor has been screwed for 25 years, father and now son. Workers will not sit through 4 more years and they will not be addressed until it gets out of hand like it starting to in Europe. 25 years of bs is a long time. no wage increase, limited benefits, etc. You casnnot expect people to sit around forever. Give it another year or 2.

As long as the Republicans continue to ignore the national debt we will have a screwed up economy. Look at the graph of the national debt and any 5th grader can see the problem. The republicans continue to cut taxes and NOT cut spending. Any person with any sense knows that you have to have income to support your spending habits. It will never get better untill we have responsible government.

Barack Obama would actually be much better for America security. There's no doubt to me McCain would be better than Bush, the Bush years being probably as much about fueling terrorism than fighting it. But McCain would still represent (but less) what can be seen as America's arrogance, something that makes USA so unpopular around the world. A black man with Hussein as a middle name would send a clear message in Middle East that America is about freedom, an important contrast with some form of imperialism. Combined with Obama intelligence about understanding dialogging with enemies, I humbly think this would affect directly terrorism recruiting. I may sound over-optimistic, but I think his image alone as a president could do more for democracy in Middle East than any war.
