There should be a law against transfering social security numbers and other private data outside the US to foreign data centers. Homeland security forces people to jump through all kinds of silly hoops but if big business wants to send your private information around the world, hey, no problem.

The main concern some companies might have with outsourcing thier web business off-site is that the security of the data is no longer under their own control. For instance, millions of U.S. citizens financial data is stored at outsourced locations in 3rd world countries that don't even have reliable electricity, let alone simple things like toilets. How secure does that make you feel about your social security number and other related data fields?

You know, there are people in the desert in places around the world who could start a whole religion with stuff that seems to be in the sky. It's sort of happened before.

quote "You don't need to run a business with an overburdened IT department" the perception is interesting. a computer programmer was estimated to save up to 6 million dollars a year for a company, or increase revenue. This has all changed since 2000 and IT managers in order to save money and of course get bigger bonuses offshored the work to INDIA. Nowadays at the large Movie Studio I work at, 9 out of 10 of the programmers are from INDIA. Most of the American Staff has been layed off during the last 2 years. It's a shame. Shame on you corporate america for not supporting your own people, in your own country...no wonder unemployment is rising....thanks for training our kids tooo.....great work !!

Tell you what. I'm just going to treat this article the same as my automobile engine. I have no idea what is under the hood. I never even open it to look. Could be a herd of horses, for all I care. When I was a kid, I had friends who had cars and the more they studied engines and worked on them, the more that they had to work on them to keep them running. They'd talk about solenoids and crap like that and it never made any sense. I just turn the key and she runs just fine and there is no need to be concerned about the mystery under the hood. Same as the computer. I can use it just fine. Does everything that I could ever want and keeps coming up with new surprises and sources of information. Don't rewrite the article to try to fix it so that I might get a clue about this mystery in the sky, after all. I'll do just fine. And watch your solenoid!! It's about to go out again and you'll be under the hood trying to fix it while I'm whistling and driving down the road.

The article is interesting, but the title is extremely misleading. Quite obviously, computer software is NOT becoming obsolete, it is just becoming more network based... unless servers run on magic and pixie dust. I get the feeling that the author had to let a less-informed editor "fine tune" the title. Fight harder next time, Mr. Braiker.

Great idea in concept, however the logistics of this are flawed. Yes, you will probably will not be strapped with licensing costs for software anymore, but maintenance costs associated with the processing/storage of your data will, in the long run, far outweigh the costs of a fat client installation. Security, digital rights, access control associated with you/your company's files are major concerns.

And, if he wouldn't mind, would jack999 give us a clue, too? I didn't see anything about Mc Cain in the article. Wait. Let me pinch myself and see if I'm awake. Makes more sense in a dream.

Would you mind rewriting this article. I read it twice and couldn't figure for the life of me how you managed to get the articles written in 1851 out of the sky and onto a computer screen. You must have missed a step or two. Thanks.

How this John Mccain know about ECONOMY?let alone about climate change, In 1951, the family settled in Northern Virginia, and McCain attended Episcopal High School , a private preparatory boarding school in Alexandria.McCain had conflicts with higher-ups, and he was disinclined to obey every rule, which contributed to a low class rank.McCain did well in academic subjects that interested him, such as literature and history, but studied only enough to pass subjects he didn't like, such as math.Immediately after HIGH SCHOOL he enrolled and following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, McCain entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. This his HIGHEST qualification when Military commissioned him as Naval Officer.(Perharps he's lucky with his family military BackGround where he's now IF NOT he's just like other VETs working for Security Company ).those thinks he's perfect candidate to President ? God Bless America..!!. He shall screw up everythings worst then Bush. He's a Good Pony Rides for any Washington LOBBYIST.
