Wow pretty harsh and all about flip flops. I do agree they can cause problems I too wear them and have suffer feet and also knee problems and I am not overweight I am athletic and all ways. Wearing flip flops are easier than lacing up a shoe when running around doing things, and yes I think if I were meeting the president of the USA and having that opportunity I would not be wearing flip flops (FYI). I think people have the right to wear what they please wether its flip flops or heels but its there bodies that will be paying the consequences. What ever the choice should be take care of yourself and your body.

I really cannot understand the popularity of flip-flops among women. They are unattractive and make the following statement: "I do not care about my appearance and will make minimal effort to look presentable." They are not cute, and generally inappropriate to wear at any place but the beach. Attention to detail is important, and when you wear a cute outfit, you should top it off with a nice pair of shoes. I generally wear heels, both during the winter and summer, and would feel like a complete slop wearing a pair of flip flops.

What a phuquing bioatch. Do you really think that these girls wearing their flip flops care what you think about them. What do you care what someone else is wearing. Perhaps they think the fact that you wear heals everyday makes the statement, 'im an uptight b* i* t* c* h". Did you ever stop to think what makes heels dressier. What they look like to you? So if a pair of flip flops looks good to a person they would be just as dressy to them as a pair of heals. Or is it only your taste that can define what is dressy and not sloppy. If i only new what was empirically good looking and what wasnt, like the gift you have i guess. Or do you prefer heels because thats what society has told u is better. Open your eyes and make a personal desicion, and if it is still heels thats cool, but cant you respect anothers equal right to decide what they feel is cute or dressy or comfortable and what makes them feel like a slob.

War Eagle! My feet have really been hurting, so a light went on when I read the article. I have been wearing flip-flops most of the time the last few weeks. They are now in the back of my closet.

FaatJoey your comment is one of the most ignorant I've seen in a while. Categorizing a type of footwear as "gay" on an intelligent website really chracterizes who you are and your intelligence level. And actually I know many, many straight men who wear flip flops. What's wrong withw earing easy to wear, light sandals when it's hot. You really need to re-evlaute your opinions

Any time I see someone wearing flip-flops on the street I want to run after them with a sharp object just to see how well they could possibly run away from me.

flip flops are as g@y as people who wear socks with sandels,no real man would wear either!

socceronthebrain- The way God intended your foot to be, is for the spread toes to be spread out, with some space between the individual toes. So, unless you're wearing Earth Shoes or Birkenstock, your toes are cramped together and over time, the bones in your foot start staying that way. Yes, the problem is worse with wearing stilleo heels, And an extreme example is shown by the ancient Chinese custom of binding the feet of girls so that the foot boones are all jammed together and the feet are tiny. But Western idea of beauty is almost as bad. Look at Mickey Marsh's comment that 'ladies' who wear flip-flop have 'ugly feet'. That because we're not used to looking at feet that are naturally spread out. Look at any picture of the human foot in a medical book, and compare it to your own foot or anyone elses who wears shoes on a regular basis. You'll notice that the foot in the book is more spread out. That's why in Hawaii, we buy wider width shoes, if we have to buy shoes.

And while you may not have problems with smelly feet ot foot fungi, you've probably have had corns on your toes or blisters on your heels. This is caused by wearing shoes and is something 'flip-flop' wearers don't have..

The FLAW in FLIP - FLOP, after wearing them a period of time some ladies feet appear like claws.

  • Posted By: Micky Marsh @ 06/11/2008 2:26:42 PM

Is it fair to presume that flip - flop ladies has ugly feet.

I'm confused as to why people are saying that shoes cram the toes together and wearing shoes causes foot fungus and odor. I wear shoes all the time, I'm not a fan of sandals and flipflops and I've never had a problem with this supposed foot fungus and odor. I have dealt with toes crammed but thats only happened in stilleto heels. In sneakers, there isn't cramming. If there is, that's a sign of a too small shoe. People may get foot fungus from shoes but that means that they don't wash their feet or wear socks or change their socks. I have no problems with people wearing flip flops, I just don't like seeing people bashing regular shoes.

The name 'flip-flops' comes from the noise that they make as your walk. However, this is also an indication that the person wearing them doesn't know how to wear them and is scrunching their toes to wear them. When I walk with my 'slippahs' I make no sound as I let the back side of the footward to naturally drop down, knowing that they aren't going to fall off of my foot. The thong and my forward motion keeps them on my foot. If i scrunch my toes, like those who don't know how to wear them. I get that 'flip-flop' noise, and my toes start to hurt. Also, I do take shorter steps. Perhaps people should take classes in the proper way to wear their 'flip-flops', or leave the wearing of them to the professionals like me.

And FATJOEY, you can keep wearing your shoes and keep getting your stinky feet and foot fungus. And I dare you to come to Hawaii and tell a 6'2", 320 lb.Hawaiian wearing flip-flops, that he's a 'F@G', because he is going to pound your fat lazy Docker wearing a$$, like he's pounding taro to make poi.

I have never read anything so ridiculous. I live in Hawaii and wear flip flops everyday, in fact I can't remember the last time I had a pair of shoes on. I have no pain in my feet, ankles, knees, legs, hips, or anywhere else associated with wearing them. The shoe companies must be funding this important research.

well I live in Florida and all they wear is flip flops...everywear....even in fancy restuarants. There is no line between when to where them and not but one that I have noticed about these Floridians is that they like to buy the Old Navy flip flops that are 5 for $5 and they don not support your feet at all. I don not like to wear flip flops because for one they hurt my feat and everyone wears them everywhere, there are lots of nice sandals that you could be wearing instead of ill supporting flip flops

THE FLOPPING SOUND IS SO ANNOYING!!!DAMN THINGS SHOULD BE OUTLAWED!

Well Duh! Of course flip flops every freakin day are bad for your feet. Any podiatrist worth their salt will tell you it's also not really the best idea to wear the exact same shoe day in & day out either, for exactly the same reasons listed above - the muscles in your feet/legs that help coordinate your gait need a different "challenge" at least every 2 days. Different muscles are engaged & others get to relax when you mix it up a bit. You don't use your body in the exact same movements day in & day out, so why would you think your feet should be any different? There's no sole support. What amazes me is why so many people would want to wear shoes that your feet have to try7 hold on to with every step. 5 min in a pair of too "flappy" shoes & my feet are killing me. Too much work...I just wanna walk, not worry about if my shoe is gonna fall off or worse, fall apart if someone accidentally steps on the back, with every step. LOL...imagine what would happenin an emergency situation if you needed to climb up on or over something - you'd be *** outta luck cause you aren't wearing real shoes!

I'm with you...why would I want to have to hold onto my shoes with my toes like a retarded primate ;-D

And let's not forget the ugly stepsister to flip-flops...those freaking backless shoes just make me want to scream!! No wonder people are so mean to each other all the time, they keep getting the soles of their feet beaten all day a la 'Midnight ...? (can't think of the name of the movie; the one where the kid named Billy tried to smuggle dope out of Turkey and spent time in a Turkish prison. One of the punishments was to beak the soles of your feet for a while. Didn't hurt a lot at the time but the next day ... whoo-boy!!!)

      • Posted By: rubysmama35 @ 06/11/2008 12:14:33 PM

Sorry, fat finger typo! The punishment was to BEAT the soles of your feet with a bamboo rod for about an hour.

You mean with all the modern technology of today, flip - flops are still flip - flops; ladies you mean the flops haven't been flipped as yet no wonder they hurt.

I live in San Diego and basically all I wear are flip flops (or high heels) and I've never had toe, heel or any type of foot pain related from wearing flip flops. In fact, almost immediately after I work out or a football game, I take my running shoes off and slip right back into them and let my feet breathe! I wonder if the pain they are referring to in the article has to do more so with people not used to wearing flip flops year round. I'm sticking with my Reefs that fit like a glove!
