There's just something really disturbing about this interview. Mrs. Falwall comes off as being somewhat vacuous. She presents herself as the dutiful wife whose husband's work didn't interest her or was above her head..but darnit, she'll defend everything he did because it bought her a big fancy house and gave them a lifestyle where they could drive their kids from Virgina to New York in a limosine..just because they wanted to.

Well, Mrs. Falwell, it's time you pulled your head out of the sand.

Your lifestyle was purchased with bias and bullying.

It was paid for by other people's pain and disenfranchisement.

Your husband may have give you and your kid's a good life...but he made his fortune on trying to make other people's lives hell.

You have my condolences on the loss of someone you loved...but if I can be big enough to empathize with your grief...you should at least make the effort to try to understand the damage your husband's diviseness has done to our nation and the pain he caused so many.

HERE HERE! I completely agree! She needs an overhaul.

I'm a very fragile person who can't form an opinion for myself so i relie on people like Falwell to mold me. I have been told at a very early age that I am not a good person, I have bad thoughts, and I am damned for eternity. Religion has helped me disguise my impure thoughts from society. People like me have to hate everyone else because that validates me. Everyone else has to be wrong because my limited thought process can't calculate beyond pre-adalesence impulse thinking. I will stop at nothing in order to show everyone else that I am right and they are wrong. My cleverest defence is attacking people with the qualities that I share and am so ashamed of. My verocity is rewarded with the comfort that they will never find out how much we actually have in common. I hate myself and I'm so afraid.

I'm seeing thing about burnt offeerings and the Wicked Witch. You people are just a bunch of screwed up monkeys. Get a life.

For cathy78 ,Jerry was his class validictorian in highschool and graduated from college. He was extremely well read and had a steal trap mind. No one who heard him speak or talked with him would think him uneducated or unintelligent. Jerry was, however, crazy like a fox and would let people think he was some plain old country preacher until it he had them where he wanted them.

    • Posted By: cathy78 @ 06/10/2008 10:34:04 PM

He was a moron. I'm sure he's wishing now that he hadn't been a Protestant.

      • Posted By: MauiKimo @ 06/10/2008 10:40:37 PM

And you know this how? If it is because you do not agree with what he said, that is poor reasoning. There are many out there who I disagree wtih but who are not morons.

I will not even consider reading this book has her husband never did evoke sympathy in my when he passed away. There's someone for everyone. No doubt this woman is grieving for her partner - someone who would turn me completely off. Grief takes time and one has to get through it with help and understanding. She doesn't say whether she is doing charitable work or giving to the community to get through the tough times during the day. And, since she doesn't have anything to do at night, how about volunterring to grade paperwork for some poor and burned out teacher who is underpaid and can spend some time with their family? How christian would that be. I could think of tons of things for this woman to do at night. I know that grieving is exhausting. There is no time limit but brightness comes out of the dark if you give of yourself - it makes you feel better. As for her husband, I have only negative feelings towards his "legacy" (the mind control freak that he was....!).

He proclaimed to be a messenger from ???God???, and so do a lot of other people who do harm to their families and society. The person from Lynchburg, VA says, ??? Jerry would leave the house in the morning with wads of cash and just give it away to perfect stranger???; wow I do that for our local homeless shelter. I did not like him because, he said some very insensitive things about women to uplift men, and it wasn???t necessary. He wanted everyone in the church, but the church is not always the safest place for you. I am a survivor of child sexual abuse and rape by a senior deacon of a large Christian Church, so I don???t see church as a safe place. I am married to a very fine man, who loves me; however, I am a strong advocate for women and children, and I am sure that the late ???Jerry??? would have thought I was trying to break up the family, but I am not. I just want every child to have what I didn???t have a safe nights sleep.

While I have not always agreed with everything Jerry did, he was far from a hate monger. He went out of his way to help people, from Lynchburg to the ends of the earth. He established homes to care for unwed moms, putting feet on his desire to end abortion. He supported missions in all forms around the world, often providing food and medical care along with the Gospel. His views were not always popular, but he had the guts to stand for them. Never once in my hearing did Jerry ever advocate hostle actions against anyone. He might have called out people by name whom he disagreed with, but he always tried to hate the sin, and love the sinner. Jerry spoke out about things that he felt would help America and often those comments were taken out of context, which led to the view among many that he was a hate monger. Uncompromising men and women are often view as inflexable or intoleratent, but those are the people who pursued dreams and made them reality. American has lost a voice that for good or evil, made people think about some of their choices, and that in turn helped America.

Perhaps, but judgemnt is a sin and to engage in that ignores the teachings. Let God be God and let men be men. Perhaps more should understand that and just shut their mouth.

Billy carried the message of Jesus Christ much more effectively....he will not leave a legacy any where similar to Jerry Fallwell. I suspect Jerry is in heaven...I do not doubt his faith. I do doubt his strategy. I wonder if Christ will said to him "well done good and faithful servant?" I want to be remember for my love, patience, kindness, my example.....not for condemning masses of people. I'll leave judging up to God....He knows better than I do. In uncertain times, people cling to someone who eliminates the gray and makes all issues black or white. Uncertainty is scary....Black and white is simple...I'm right, you're wrong. The religious right likes it that way. I am so glad I just have to love people and let the rest up to God.

we need more bold people to stand out in the world. this way people would learn that the only way to heaven is being born again and not being a good person. when you actualy get god your life changes and you do not see the things the same way. what about all the people falwell touch with his message and their lives changed for ever. just cause people do not understand the word of god they put the good preachers down.

    • Posted By: cathy78 @ 06/10/2008 10:29:15 PM

Let me guess. You are Baptist, and a bus takes you to church.

      • Posted By: elithian @ 06/10/2008 10:37:20 PM

lET HIM WHO IS FIRST BE LAST AND SHE WHO IS LAST BE FRST. How s it we so gleefully ignore the teachings of the masters while fooling ourselves that we are wise.

    • Posted By: investinlife @ 06/10/2008 10:34:22 PM

Mr. Graham was unfortunately a compromiser. He believes all will go to heaven. Look it up you will be surprised at what he really believes. Falwell was bold and not afraid to speak truth! He has great rewards in heaven!

    • Posted By: cathy78 @ 06/10/2008 10:22:41 PM

Let me guess, you are of the Baptist faith. The true religion is Catholicism, and there is no other religion that can even come close. All of the others broke away from Christ.

in line with christopher hitchen's, good riddance! we're all better off without his intollerance and hate mongering. he was a fraud and prayed upon the weak and weak-minded. i recently attended the pride parade here in salt lake, and am proud of all of my friends and family in the GLBT community. i am also proud of all of my fellow rational thinking humans, and wish people like falwell would see that we are all in this together, and can make the world a better place by being human instead of sheep, of as i like to term them, lemmings, just forging ahead with the rest of the herd, not caring about the dangers in front of them. one lemmig leader down, many to go. i fervently wish, with all my heart, that they would all open their minds to the truth. i wish jerry would have done that before his death.

, , , , , "and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." - Mark 12;33

, , , , , maybe the Fallwells forgot to read this part on the "Christian" Bible,

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. He's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
    Let them know
    The Wicked Witch is dead!

Lost? According to who? Christian rightousness is extreemly tiresome. The Christians are right. The Jews are right. The Muslims are right. The Budists are right. Let's see, who else is right?

  • Posted By: Roory @ 06/10/2008 10:12:50 PM

Extremist relegious hate mongers like Falwel are the disease on this earth. Relegions and their extremists followers are guilty of so many crimes on this earth including beeting the drums for wars. Falwell beat the drums to the Iraqi war and thus has blood on his filthy hands. Blood of americans and Iraqis.

    • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 06/10/2008 10:35:54 PM

      Totally agree with you!

  • Posted By: mikealike @ 06/10/2008 10:35:38 PM

Gee-golly- big bummer he died- the world was alot for him to handle anyway-he's with Jesus now- maybe the purse carrying Teletubbie the Reverend hated can help bring the Christian right peace and regain their power. I understand Tinkie Linky or whatever the tubbies name is/was has magical powers and wants to play with Jerry's wife on T.V , so kids will love her and all Christians-again. She needs to be on T.V.

To James: If the "framers of the constitution" knew religion and politics did not match: why are there Biblical quotes; Biblical scultures, etc. thoughout ALL our capitol, including the Supreme Court? Why is "In God We Trust" on our money?? How many of our colleges were started by churches? Why did many of our presidents and "framers" write of God being involved and use the words: God, Jesus Christ, Savior, etc. in many of their writings? Weren't the earliest schools taught the ABC's that used the Bible and references in memorizing? Don't believe the modern atheistic teachers; research!!! Whether you acknowledge Him or not, God exists and there is only ONE GOD. If you are open-minded, I challenge you to read the book of John in the Bible (4th book in New Testament). Simply ask God to speak to you as you read. If you are sincere, I believe He will.

    • Posted By: World Citizen @ 06/10/2008 10:35:05 PM

Dear Concenred lady - "In God We Trust was not on the money from the start, just as "On e Nation Under God" was not in the pledge of allegiance. Get your history right!

    • Posted By: Take6#4 @ 06/10/2008 10:25:30 PM

      Thank you!

Jerry Bin Laden is partly responsible for the death of the thousands of Americans and Iraqis as he had beaten the drums of war so loudly. He strongly encouraged Bush and his extremist followers to go to war.
    Some godly man!

"Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone". Seems to me he threw a lot of stones. Who was he to tell people how to live their lives and threaten them with hell? It would have been fine had he preached to those who wanted to listen and follow him. But to teach his followers to hate those who believed or lived differently certainly seems the LEAST Christian thing he could have done. Not missing him.
