I thought Jerry was a blowhard just making money off of religion like so many other evangelists etc. These fools have no business even discussing politics in their churches. Should lose their tax exempt status because of i. Jerry along with many of his cohorts do nothing for this country except to help divide. I love how she says she was going to vote for McCain. Really? 100 years in Iraq McCain? Making Bush tax cuts permanent will solve health care crisis McCain? Get prepared to keep getting stiffed by the oil companies McCain? These people are amazing. Go away please!!

Sounds like another submissive wife just going along with what she has been told. How sad. IF she is lonely she could join the LDS. Lots of people there to take up her time. Hope she takes along Ann Coulter.

The foundation of religeon has fault at its core. That is men select men and ignore God. Time AND TIME AGAIN WE ARE REMINDED OF THE RIGHT WAY TO LIVE AND WE CONTINUE TO IGNORE IT FROM THE TIME WE GET UP IN THE MORNING UNTIL WE GO TO BED. mATHEW 6! iT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD IF MORE OF US LIVED BY THAT INCLUDING fALWELL

My heart goes out to Macel Falwell. I pray that she will cling to the words of Jesus Christ in John chapter 10:10: I have come that they may have life and have it to the fullest.
The beginning of that verse says that the thief comes to kill, to steal, and destroy. There is another verse in the bible that says "All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose." Both verses above are paraphrased, but the point to writing these verses is to encourage Jerry Falwell's closest family and friends, that God has a plan for your lives and he is so close to you right now. He promises to be close to the humble, the grieving, those broken in spirit...don't rush the grieving process and know that there are people out there whom you have never met (like me) who are praying for you and can empathize with the roller coaster ride your feelings can take you on after having lost a loved one. Those who have repented of their sins and asked Jesus into their hearts, know the peace that comes when you know that this life is only temporary and we will be with our Lord and Savior who humbled himself to die on a cross, taking the punishment that all of us deserve.

Wishing a person dead because of his character and beliefs are different from yours isn't the greatest moral standard for anyone.....HOWEVER, Jerry Falwell could not have been much of a God-fearing or God loving man.....no one can be with all the name calling and dislike he had for ...ohhh...80% of the population. He did do some good things, but darn...why did he hide behind God to mask his total disgust for those that he should of been helping to become saved? When a distraught or immorally lacking individual is in desperate need of looking UP to another human....we want to see a person who embraces God for all the good he brings to our lives, that He will save someone's soul. NOT look up for that help and see a "so called" disiple spewing hate and trodding that individual down in the muck even more. When a man or woman decides to serve God, best believe they better clean their own back yard and NOT throw stones. It's hypocritical, sad, demeaning, and disgusting of ANY person who serves under the guise of FAITH.

THAT is in the Bible folks....and I'm not even a "go to church all the time" person.....just a realist!

I can't believe the hate that is spewed here...most of these comments fall into the abuse category. You don't have to agree with the man but wishing him dead and in hell is only showing that you really don't have much of a life or intelligence.

I had the honar of meeting REV. FALWELLwhen i was eight years old. I was from a small country town and a church sent me and my brother to a summer camp and on SUNDAY we all got to go to his church.I am now 47 years old. I remember this man and the love that was in his voice until this very day. GOD BLESS YOU MR> FALWELL YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN>

Those who are the TRUE hatmongers are those pouring out there venom against Falwell on these comments. Jerry Falwell hated no one, but loved everyone. Some of you on this post ought to take as you example Jerry Falwell's frendship with Hustler's Larry Flynt. You won't even give him credit for that, seeing as your blinded by hate. Doesn't this loathing spirit how soul sick you really are?

    • Posted By: ashoopman2985 @ 06/10/2008 10:24:02 PM

      oh, ***!! Not the hatmongers!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: Take6#4 @ 06/10/2008 9:47:37 PM

I guess it's easy to speak ill of the dead when they are gone. Talking ill of someone after their passing makes you no better than they are; but then again, people writing the hateful comments don't care what others think either, do they? Now, who is intolerant?

    • Posted By: rsf1017 @ 06/10/2008 10:23:25 PM

So according to your logic, we can't ever say anything bad about Hitler either, right? So basically no matter how heinous or evil a person was in life, once they die they can't ever be held accountable or criticized for their atrocities? No one's going to buy your argument!

I see nothing wrong with a father treating his young son to a birthday that will never be forgotten. If that involves a limousine trip to NY to eat at McDonald's then what of it? The real story here is that he loved his son enough to make the time to make his birthday a happy one. He should be commended for this, not ridiculed.

I have always heard that when you throw a rock at a pack of wolves the one that yelps is the one that got hit. Only this time the rock was thrown at a pack of toads.

    • Posted By: road_toad666 @ 06/10/2008 10:22:21 PM

Nobody is yelping here, buddy. I and millions of others, however- are SICK of seeing the sheep of the nation swindled out of their money and minds by snake oil salesman like Falwell. All these churches and congregations giving up billions of dollars, to have the finger of the preacher pointed back at them and belittled. Not a man alive has any more right than another to point fingers and preach that a difference in their fellow man is wrong. No one. No more justification than the next, we are ALL sinners. It's about time for people like JF to stop the finger-pointing and DO something to benefit society. Build houses. Subsidize seniors and low-income folks to pay their bills and buy the scrips they need to LIVE. This is Jesus-like and God-like. For every mega-church like Falwell's that is built, tens of thousands of down and out people can be assisted, clothed, fed. I cannot think of a single church off hand around here that has made a significant contribution to better society, because that would require real, hard, labor intensive WORK. Unlike dressing in a suit once a week and making everyone you're preaching to feel rotten about themselves, in trade for thousands of dollars. The whole point of a church is to build society and provide for those who can't- and to build the next generation of people to be equally as mighty in the pursuit of what is right and decent. It seems the church has lost its way in pursuit of greed. As long as extremists like JF exist, they really give liberals exactly what they want. They will cause anyone with a rational head to vote liberal. And before you go labeling me a Lib- I am anything BUT a Lib.

Jerry had a big mouth. That was it. He read his Bible and knew it well then he made money out of talking crap! The hate monger!

  • Posted By: sprues1 @ 06/10/2008 10:21:57 PM

Incidently, thank you Thomas Jefferson, et al, they were so horrrified by this, that it was probably, the secomd most important reason for the article in our consttiution, regarding separation of church and state.

  • Posted By: jlves @ 06/10/2008 10:21:30 PM

To tell you the truth Jerry had a lot of love for people. No one is perfect; things may not have come out right, which I know that he probably wished he would have said things differently. I am so proud of him though for defending Christ and what he believed in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Posted By: rruiz831 @ 06/10/2008 10:21:03 PM

Falwell was a charaltan and hate-monger, the 20 mil he left is a merely a tax dodge that his wife recoups from the school. Any idiot who mouths his preachings can get into that school. My $10 dollar internet ordaination carries as much if not more validity than anything LU could bestow on the ignorant. The Christian Right is weakening because the light of reality is dawning on their world now that the shroud of lies and hates spewed by Falwell and ilk has begun to sputter.

  • Posted By: benefitman @ 06/10/2008 10:20:10 PM

Why is it that the ones who protest so much about hate coming from the right yet they cannot resist spewing out such venom behind a comptuer screen. How dreadful the life of an angry person. When you have proven your aid to humanity you then will have an audience

  • Posted By: sprues1 @ 06/10/2008 10:19:37 PM

I think, we need to remember, the only time in the history of our country, where Christians had absolute
power, people were put in stocks, for the crime of not going to church and swearing.

  • Posted By: cathy78 @ 06/10/2008 10:19:10 PM

He was just a child. Did he even have a college education? Jerry was just stupid and I'm sure his wife knew that. But he was making money, and I'm sure she liked that.
