This is like Ava Braun writing a book that Adolph was really a nice guy. Foulwell was scum and his wife is no better and those who supported him are even worse.

it is so disappointing that a christian woman and one of great importance in the christian faith shd have such a stand - vote for mccain just for the simple reason that he is a republican. as a cristian i am ashamed of all these people and have no respect for them. mccain does not stand for anything that christ stands for. he is a liberal republican. shame on mrs falwell and his sons for endorsing mccain just because he is a republican. shame on the others like john hagee. this goes beyond being republicans - they are all racists. The Good Lord will judge us all one day

After watching the Documentary, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye", I believe that Mr. Falwell was a very mean spirited man. It appears he was the one that started the rumours saying that Jim baker was making sexual advances towards men in his congregation> Believe that Jim Baker was guilty of being greedy, but Jerry Falwell set him up with Jessica Hahn. Oh well guess it will all come out at the Fianl Judgement.

Jerry Falwell was just a man, a sinner, saved by Grace. Yes he was narrow minded about the Holy Word of God! The Bible tells us that there is only one way to God, for all people, by admitting that we are sinners and repenting of those sins, and accepting that Jesus Christ died for those sins and rose from the dead, that He is our personal Savior and is now sitting at the right hand of God! This is what Jerry Falwell knew and believed!

You may call this a fairy tale. However, my Creator is alive and He created all things. I challenge you to read His Word entirely, not just bits and pieces. Also, if you don't believe in God or Christ, read former atheist Lee Strobel's book "The Case for Christ," then make your decision one way or the other. When you leave this world and stand before God Almighty, I pray that you have made the wise decision to accept Him. Again, I dare you to read Psalm 14:1-5, and then the entire Word of God!

As a Christian, the only Good in me or anyone else is Jesus Christ, for there is none Good, not one, but God! The Book of John tells us that the Word was with God, and the Word was made flesh, in Jesus, and that He was God. Jerry Falwell witnessed the deeds of many people, just as you and I have, he knew the sinful nature of people, and as a servant of God, he preached against those personal sins and those of our nation,
such as killing unborn babies through abortion. I met and spoke with Jerry four times since 1975 and I know that he loved all people, and prayed that we would turn from our sin and see the truth and accept Christ!

Yes, truth is narrow, just as 2 + 2 is 4, and not 5; and that the World is basically round and not flat. The Narrow Path of Righteousness and Truth may be unreasonable to those that shout about Tolerance. There is one individual that is broad minded and tolerates lying, cheating, theft, murder, adultery, homosexuality, and child abuse, to name a few, and his name is Satan. This is the Truth that Jerry Falwell preached, if you didn't take him out of context.

Yikes. So much damaged caused by one man and his followers, and they still think the country's ills are caused by those bad paganists, abortionists, feminists, gays and lesbians. And sheI'll vote for McCain, for sure. God, save me from your followers.

    No wonder

Jerry Falwell was a great man. He was bold as a lion! He only spoke truth, which I happen to agree with. I'm a gay man who agrees homosexuality is wrong. I see it being wrong because I live it and see the lifestyle. If people only new they would have agreed with Jerry Falwell. He will prove to be right one day.

    • Posted By: rsf1017 @ 06/10/2008 10:29:39 PM

This is obviously written by a fundamentalist posing as a gay man. Ridiculous!!

      • Posted By: investinlife @ 06/10/2008 10:39:53 PM

100% truth, you just cannot handle it! I live the life and see it everyday. Many gay men feel the same, but are just afraid of what people may say. It is a very dramatic, sexual and unnatural lifestyle. been there doing that!

        • Posted By: rsf1017 @ 06/11/2008 3:01:23 AM

Self-loathing and the lack of intelligence to see through BS are both very sad traits which you possess. I feel sorry for you.

Must you really post comments like that, Woman Walks Far? For the record, I am indifferent, and even against certain religions, especially ones that suppress and prosecute those who don't believe or worship thier gods such as Islam, Judaism and, worst of all, Christianity. I know this world is going to Hell in a handbasket, but that dosen't mean that you have to automatically blame us "ungodly freaks." Don't be so close minded! Think for yourself and for those around you. And, instead of blaming others, perhaps you can help others! By the way, this is a teen who is yelling at you, and if your an adult, I thought you of all people should be more mature than I!

Christianity does indeed have a leader who "went out on a limb"...His name is Jesus. It is arrogant for anyone on earth to declare themselves as anything as arrogant as the "religious right." When they do, they spew the same type of man made decrees regarding Christianity as Falwell did. Jesus Christ served people...in a loving, sacrificial way. He was well aware of the politics around him...."Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars"....but, He knew, as we all should now....God is not impressed of the outward man, but the inward one.

Very well put. I liked the way you worded your comment. Your wisdom and insight is most welcomed .

The comments made over the years about Mr. Falwell bring mixed emotions by many. I lived in the Lynchburg area for several years and became familar with his grand empire. I also became familar with his past and his families past. One should never throw rocks when they come from their own river banks. His family had a very sorid past. This was not fictional but from family's that grew up around the Falwells. Religous freedoms should mean just that, that all people are free to worship their religions without ridicule and suffrage from others. Yes Macel loved her husband and bore his children those are things that we can appreciate in couples. Does that mean I would run out and buy her book? No it just means I respect her loss and grievances. Does his passing justify all of the unfair and hateful comments he made while living? No it does not. Do not hide behind the face of your religion to cast your stones. Hate is just as sinful as any other sin . It is one's refusal to learn of other's cultures and beliefs that leads to such horrible statements and misunderstandings. This is a large wonderous world, and so full of diversity , should not we respect it more by trying to accept others for what they believe and learn something from it? Stop fighting your battles in the name of religion . If you choose to wage war do so against things that will really matter such as proverty, starvation, dieases. It matters not who started it or how , what matters is finding an answer for the problems that are so privolant in our societies. Raise arms against homelessness and raise your eyes towards a better tommorow.

Keep your religious crap out of politics! Separation of church and state means just that. Why don't you bible thumpers accept the Constitution? Are religious freaks exempt from the law of the land? Pharisees were the perfect example of religion in politics and you know what your Jesus thought about them!!!

    • Posted By: Caavael @ 06/11/2008 2:36:35 AM

I'm a Christian, and honestly I quite agree, Possum, though I don't consider myself a relgious freak as you suggest. Just a normal person with a tendency to see things from a "religious" if you will angle. Laws should favor everybody involved - and I especially appreciate your comment about the Pharisees, you make a good point there.

I am beyond happy that this pathetic waste of skin is gone. It is a shame that people with such radical and clearly absurd and obscene views are no longer thrown into mental hospitals. The worse part of it is that we have so many week minded followers who accually believe the stuff. I have never met a religious person that wasn't going against the bible in one way or another but likes to throw stones...

I met Reverand Falwell at Regent University in Virginia Beach in 1986...he was a very nice men, very friendly, and I enjoyed our conversation. We miss him.

He was a great leader among like-thinkers. He was a man, human, and capable of mistakes. She loved him and knew the best sides of him. I respect her for trying to protect his memory for her family. He was not a politician and should not be held to the same scrutiny.

The more I hear and see of the Religious Right...I am convinced that they are truly "Ignorant", but far from "Blissful".......they are hateful, bigoted, opinionated, intolerant, and close minded....I respect none of them and despise what they stand for.......they talk about being "pro life", but unless you are American, White, Republican, and Creationist and totally anti-science....you're not considered "human". When's the last time these people cared one iota about human beings that are already here instead of those who aren't born yet....and of course....we can't forget those defenseless little stem cells. Are they "nuts" or what? How about being a little kind and understanding and tolerant....but that's asking too much from that crowd.

You sound very unhappy, and with yourself.

  • Posted By: MsRits @ 06/11/2008 2:19:34 AM

I was not nor will I be a supporter of the religious right but folks, come on, this is his wife and the mother of his children and you folks are attacking her for the love she had for her husband and being alone. They asked her how she felt and it seems to me she shared her thoughts with us. Be respectful of her. That is what God taught us to do and instinctively b/c its the right thing to do. Why are you being so disrespectful to this lady? Again, I do not know her nor do I now or have I ever supported the Moral Majority or his kind of Christianity. You are acting worse than the man you are mad with. There are respectful ways to disagree and when ones mind is small and shallow it comes out with comments like yours.

Hmm, intriguing (?) responses to the man so far (far more about him than about the book itself, though that doesn't actually surprise me too much.) Seems that if we look at what he did in public in the best possible light, he could've reworded just about everything he said so as not to sound hateful. HOWEVER, at the same time, it seems that a good majority of the nastier comments overshoot the actual level of his hatred and selfishness, basing them on tidbits of short quotes, hearsay, etc.. I will admit that I'm proud of people who stood up to at least share their good experiences of him; being a man, I'm sure he did at least SOMETHING right in his lifetime (seen or unseen by the public eye.) To Macel, if you see these comments, my condolences over the loss, and God bless.

Moving right along then - about the comments regarding religion:
*politics and relgion should NOT be intertwined (a.k.a. from history, the inquisition), so I suspect that people have a good point about his politicking in his church church.
*On the other hand, going to other comments I've seen regarding "There is no God" -- prove that one. It won't happen, at least if you are being honest with yourself and everyone else. I'd like to point out that you can discount the use of the literal "creation story" in Genesis, which seems to be a heavy focus here; ironically, even the Bible itself does that in the chapters immediately following the first version of how it goes (see Genesis chapters 1 - 5, fun reading - notice that the order of creation is completely different the second time through!!) The POINT is that God created the earth based on some order which makes sense to support life, not the order in which God created the earth. Furthermore, the creation of the world isn't what Christianity is all about anyways - Christianity is about love, humility, patience, kindness, everything which Christ taught about and died to bring about in a greater quantity than was already here. It is a sad commentary that Christian leaders make a mess of showing this, but hey, let's face it, we're all human, even in the public arena. If Falwell indeed totally blew it in his ministry, at least he made an effort to have a ministry - especially, it seems, in the years before becoming a giant.
*Finally, regarding the gay community, abortion, etc.:
The Bible, if you read it carefully, definitely condemns these activities; it is the nature of God to judge them. And frankly, I'd say they should be illegal for the simple fact that they are counterproductive to the human population!! :-) On the other hand many people make a good point; it is HIS perrogative, not ours, to make the judgment calls on individuals and their souls themselves. As humans, all we need to do, according to the Christian faith, is walk humbly with our God, love others, and tell them about him. Leave the law and judgment to him. That is it.
I think I've said my piece. Shalom to all.

Jerry F. might have been a better example of a man of God in his earlier years but some of his statments made later were horrible. Dispite that I know he's in heaven because he trusted Jesus for his salvation. That is all it takes dispite what mistakes are made before or after. The Liberal Media loves to exploit Christians who are less then perfect. (which we all are) Macel should use her money to stop writing books like every Tom Dick and Harry out there and spread the gospel, and feed the poor.

I don't know what a "religious right" person is, nor do I know much about Jerry Falwell, though, I did hear some of his thoughts of things during his later years, but did not listen much. Our society, this wonderful country I love, will no longer be here nor stand because all the ways of darkness it choses to follow. But many of us who love God, believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, and are filled with the Holy Spirit, know the days are being shortened for our sake. We our comforted by knowing, "every knee shall bend, and every tongue will confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord." Satan will be the first to fall down and the first to confess before all his followers, I'm so grateful I know the truth! God be praised! Those of you who read this and hate me for it, your Satan rejoices, and you are to pitted and prayed for. A soul is a terrible thing to loose, but greater the loss is to live in eternity in darkness, where, "there will be nashing of teeth", the pain will be so great.
